I think it probably depends on who you get to help you. I called the shop because my laptop had been "remote access scammed" a few days before and I didn't know how I was hacked, so I wanted to know if Clickaway could help check my laptop. Tranh said she would check it and "tune it up". I emphasized to her that I didn't want changes or anything removed from my computer without talking to me. She would send screenshots to me if there was something she thought should be removed. I was also getting a back up and she asssured me they would finish today. I received no phone calls over the day and when I called, they were in progress. Called later, still in progress. At the end of the day, looks like it won't be done. I will pick it up in the morning, they will finish the backup over night. I call in the morning, can't get thru and get put on hold twice for over 15 mins each time. I show up in person (still on hold!). Apparently there was one other customer in the shop and it is practice to leave me on hold indefinitely. The laptop is done, but Tranh is not here. No feedback about what they found, what was done... and my laptop desktop looks different and chrome setup looks different also. I decide to take the laptop home and revisit the shop later when Tranh is there. I want to talk about why my setup looks different. I PREPAID for the service, but the guy at the shop says I can't take my laptop without signing that everything was to my satisfaction. He's holding my laptop like it's ransom and won't hand it to me. I'm not signing until I talk to Tranh and I extract MY LAPTOP out of his hands and walk off. He still had the power supply, but I didn't realize until I was halfway home. No need for the rudeness. Back for the power supply, then back 2 hours later to talk to Tranh. When I see her, I find out that she had logged me out of my Chrome profile (probably automatic when she cleared my cookies), but leaving me logged in to a work gmail for some reason that I still don't understand. Tranh decided to turn on Sync (I've never turned it on), so my current personal bookmarks were now synced to my work gmail. And when I logged off the work email and into my default profile, my bookmarks were no longer there. I need them. And I couldn't log back into the work email because Tranh had apparently turned on 2 party authentication on my work email. It took me all day to find out the bookmarks were probably stored in my work gmail and get logged back in to the work email. I talked to Tranh about it and she was unable to help me figure out wht happened. Fortunately, my work helped me log in and I was able to capture my bookmarks and move them back to my main profile. In the end, I got no feedback on my original concern and in the meantime it was a major pain and I was treated very rudely and dismissively by the employee who wouldn't hand me my laptop and who left me on hold indefinitely... twice I felt that Tranh didn't listen and didn't communicate... $500 later. I've had 2 solid state drives installed there with no problems: they are very friendly and have very reasonable prices for quality service. I prefer to get professionals to install a solid state drive in an older device that lacks SSD, because it's easy for an amateur to make a mistake and break his machine. And experts say that the number one way you can upgrade an older machine is install an SSD. That, and add more memory, and if I ever wanted to do that I would have a good company like ClickAway to do that for me as well. Adding memory is very tricky. read more

Months ago my Norton antivirus equipped computer started acting up. I received an e-mail saying that if I didn't pay a $300 ransom, my desktop computer would be fatally infected. Ignored the warning, and slowly but surely my desktop computer slowed down all functions, to the point where Microsoft Edge continually crashed. Could still pay my bills by internet, but when I couldn't even log into Yelp, I went to ClickAway for help. Shop is only 400 yards walk from my house. But wasn't about to carry a tower on my shoulders, despite it's light weight, as too bulky for a wheeled carry on luggage, and too risky in case stopped by the police. Brought the tower in alone, as shop provides monitor, keyboard, mouse and power cords for testing. Later that day got the bad news from Trang that the 1 TB hard drive was irreversibly corrupted by a virus. $300 for a new state of the art solid state hard drive, and $300 to recover the 500 gigs of data, mostly pictures and electronic tax returns. Like buying a new car. there are extra costs: $50 installation of Bullguard software, $140 reconfigure windows 10 for installation of antivirus software on 2 laptops. They did backup on my wife's external hard drive with all the data, taking much of the 3 hours we spent at the store. Could not install 2016 Microsoft Office as could not find the key for the 2013 version. That's OK, as don't need Microsoft Word for job resumes anymore since our retirements in 2015. Talked to Ben outside the office, and he said Bullguard is far superior to Norton anti virus, and I believe him after at least 2 of my laptops succumbed to viruses years ago despite being equipped with Norton. Took all three computers home, where one of the laptops took 10 minutes to do upgrades when booting up. The upgrades delay continue to this day, a week later. Wife was surprised that I elected to spend $900 on our 5 year old desktop, when the original one costs $600, about the price of a comparable new computer with 1 TB hard drive, Intel I5 processor, read/write DVD player and 12 gb RAM. The repaired computer is rejuvenated and works like a charm, but have to redo all my bookmarks and printer drivers. The pandemic is still with us, despite Santa Clara county advancing from red to orange on the State pandemic scale. The virus now claims one more victim -my old hard drive! read more

Im having an awful experience with this company - bought a new monitor, new computer, keyboard and mouse - there was no USB port in the box with the computer and mouse - just used batteries and the wrong batteries; computer does not work - was not given a power cord when I got the computer; I asked to have files from my old computer to the new one - this was not done - don't have the files - I've spent about a $1000 and have nothing - they want me to bring it in AGAIN - I'm very frustrated with this company - not happy with their service at all - don't know what to do now - since they are not very helpful! read more

I grew up in but moved out of the Bay Area years ago, and recently found myself trying to remotely help my Mom with an issue that'd arisen with an iPad that I'd gotten her, which she'd been living with for some time. You know, the old "it's not staying connected / powered" issue. Mom doesn't drive or leave her place much anymore as she has some physical mobility limitations, so Jose went out to her to pick up the device. He found that a small bit of a lighting cable had broken off in the charging port, fished it out, and returned it to her within less than 24 hours usable as normal again and at no charge! It might seem like a small thing, but it wasn't. I'm only able to visit family back in the Bay Area and along the coast so often. Keeping devices working can be a lifeline for families that need stay connected, and so much of how their members stay connected to the world. My laptop hard drive failed and while I did have a backup from a few weeks it also had a problem being read. Eric and Pedro were great they were very confident that they could either recover the original drive or be able to either use the backup to restore the laptop, if they couldn't do this there were sure that they could recover the critical files from the backup, It took them one day and they were able to restore everything from the backup and configured the laptop to make daily back-ups to an external drive. The staff is very friendly and nice. I left my HP Laserjet m283cdw (Costco) printer to them, which shut off itself from time to time. They opened it and checked thoroughly and performed days of test. Although no cause of the issue was found out and the issue itself was not reproduced, they recommended me to use a power strip with surge protection. This does the trick! (It's also possible they fixed the problem by cleaning the internal parts). They have this dedicated brick-and-wall shopfront in Sunnyvale and look quite professional. It's full of computers and peripherals there for repairs, a sign that they have trust of customers. The nice guy who received my printer said proudly that you can't find no one else who can fix all printer problems in this area. I kind of believe him, because the other business who claims they can repair printers phoned me and said they can only take care of paper jams :-) read more

Acceptable service, but predatory pricing and sales pitches. My laptop got fried due to a faulty charger. ClickAway charged $100 for the initial analysis with no promise of a fix, and that's fine. They said they would test each piece of hardware to find what's wrong. The first phone call was very communicative, and they repeated their phone number and address to me many times in case I needed it (I don't need it, I can look it up if necessary, but I imagine their average customer might really need the extra help). They got back to me a few days later saying my motherboard was fried, which they can fix for $600, so I said I'll pass. I'd rather buy a new computer. They then aggressively tried to sell me a new laptop, with honestly subpar specs/pricing (compared to just Dell, not even checking other bargain deals like Lenovo or Amazon). This was an uncomfortable car salesman pitch for more than a few awkward minutes. I said it's better for me to buy a new laptop, not I want to buy a laptop from you today please tell me about your many mediocre deals. Then they offered me a data recovery service for $200, to recover my data from my hard drive. I also passed on this, because this price is too steep and I can probably do it myself. Then they asked me "are you sure you have a way to recover an M.2 NVME 512 GB SSD?". This jargon was a little offputting, but I realized they're just trying to scare me into buying the $200 recovery deal, so I declined again, and then they said "since you have a way to do it yourself, we can do it for $150". I'm fairly unhappy with their predatory practices, and I feel bad for customers who probably lost a lot of money to them for tasks that are worth much less than they charge. Lastly, they scratched up the top of my laptop. It looks like someone flipped it upside down to unscrew the laptop, but moved the laptop on a hard surface a lot and left a lot of scratches. When I dropped off the laptop, I offered to loan the sleeve for a reason: so you don't scratch the laptop. If I were to repair this laptop and use it again, I would forever have these scratches on my laptop that will remind me of my subpar experience with ClickAway. read more

The people were friendly enough. I don't know why they are asking me to write this review since everything else was a disaster. My printer started spitting out error codes and I wanted to do the right thing and try to repair it rather than create more trash, and these guys agreed to take a look. They told me they thought they could fix it, then quoted me a price of 70% of the value of a new printer. I balked a bit and they instantly knocked $20 off, which made me feel like they weren't being terribly honest. Still, I wanted to do the right thing so I went forward. They called to tell me they repaired it, and when I picked it up they had a test sheet printed out, so maybe they did. When I got it home I was getting the same error codes and never got it to work. I took it back to them and this time they said they couldn't fix it. Raises questions about their first analysis but ok. They won't refund the cost of not fixing it the first time, which I kind of get because presumably someone spent time, but then they offered to procure me a refurbished printer for $40, taking into account the previous payment. Taking their at their word, I guess they would rather give my refund to whoever supplies refurbished printers than me. Well anyway, now that we were back in the zone of the cost of a new printer, I walked away. The cherry on top is that after bragging about how they take e-waste and have a service that picks it up, they were not willing to e-waste my printer and I had to come pick it up and dispose of it myself. Whatever. I get that not everything can be fixed and sometimes you don't know until you try, but I can't identify one interaction with these guys that I could trust. read more

This is what happened to my wife, Linda, before she visited the store in Sunnyvale, towards the end of August 2024. A bunch of very important files disappeared from a folder on her computer. And she did not purposely delete them. She immediately went to Click Away in Sunnyvale, Ca. She told me that 'Wonderful Sean' found them on her backup drive, as There was no way that she would ever have found them. It turned out that there was a really long chain to get to the backup files. Sean wrote the chain and put it on her Desktop so she could get at the backed up files in the future. In the past, The Click away folks have been outstanding! Trang's rapid response in helping her in getting a new computer, setting it up along with the applications; and Jose's and Sean's helping in a variety of other odds and ends associated with updating the operating system and new Microsoft Office software. Had a good experience here with a laptop for which I had lost the login credentials. They set reasonable expectations and a price to do the evaluation and in my case, though they couldn't resolve the issue (the drive was encrypted and I wasn't going to pay to brute force the password), they replaced the drive for a reasonable price and set me up with a newly formatted drive so that I could re-install Windows. The service was prompt and friendly - would return in the future. read more
