Tried Clinkdagger for lunch and I had mixed feelings walking out. The building itself is honestly stunning, big windows, really cool setup, felt kinda special just sitting there. That said, getting food took forever, we waited around 40 minutes and it stretched past an hour total for simple sandwiches, which felt rough. No wait to be seated so I figured it would be quick, guess not. The manager then said "let me see what I can do for you" like some kind of car salesmen negotiating...I just want lunch. The ambience felt a bit off too, kinda dull energy even with such a nice space. Food tasted decent once it showed up, just wish the timing was better. First off the good, our service was phenomenal, we had a reservation and did not have to wait, I sure would recommend a reservation. Our wait staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and had recommendations aplenty. The atmosphere is fun in a vintage building on the water. The cesar salad was fresh and flavorful with house made croutons and I'm guessing house made dressing. The bad? Honestly the food is so over rated. Prime rib with herb crust.....it was a poorly seasoned piece of beef with no flavor. The crusted chicken was mediocre at best. The mashed potatoes were somehow too smooth and starchy AND lumpy. And the fresh seasonal vegetables were not prepped well still having stems and ends, and were not seasoned. The crème brûlée was grainy like the sugar wasn't cooked enough in the custard. The food was phenomenal, the views were amazing, and the ambience was comfortable but lively. Make sure to request a window seat when booking so you can fully enjoy the Spokane river! I had the prime rib and lobster, both of which I would order again because they were amazing, and my husband had the fettuccine and lobster Mac and cheese. We shared the teriyaki beef tips (amazing) to start and a crème brûlée for dessert. Imagine an evening like this; I was born and raised in Spokane. I have early memories of Clinkerdagger Bickerstaff and Petts from my first taste of crème brule on pewter dinner ware to more recent dining with my family upon moving back to my beloved city over eight years ago. I routinely recommend Clinkerdagger to those I know and visitors to Spokane. that ended tonight. My wife and I met her brother and his fiancé at Arbor Crest around 2:00 pm today. We had never met our brother's fiancé. It was a momentous occasion. We shared about a bottle and a half of wine between the four of us. We pondered an array of dining options from Coeur D' Alene to Spokane. Imagine the selections we could have chosen. We chose Clinkerdagger and made a 4:45 pm reservation. We checked in right at our reservation time. The restaurant was not busy. We were dressed for the occasion with the ladies in dresses and us men in casual but fine attire. The host proceeded to lead but left us far behind. By the time we reached the seating area, I had to look right and left for our host. He was three tables down to the left where we caught up to him. We seated ourselves. The waitress arrived. She had no smile, but I discounted her disposition to the drudgery of work. She left us with menus, but did not mention water or beverages. Mind you, we were not loud. My wife and her newly introduced sister in law were at most jovial but not close to the point of what could be considered and annoyance or distraction to anyone. An older man returned to our table. He made inquisitions that were not related to our dining experience. I was not sure of his role and thought he might ask if he could bring us anything. He asked if the waitress was bringing us water. I replied she had not mentioned it and I did not know. The conversation became unsettling. He informed us our waitress whom had been at our table for less than a minute, had mentioned that two of us would not be served any drinks out of concern of over service and what he suggested were issues of related liability. I could not believe what I was hearing. I have been to countless fine dining establishments. My wife manages anxiety issues and oftentimes struggles to get out like this. I know my wife and her behavior was not even close to being out of line or in the vicinity of what would be seen as public intoxication. My brother in law and I were justifiably offended when the man who now identified himself as the man in charge of the restaurant informed us our ladies would not be served beverages from the bar. We offered we would gladly give up our table, not because we had need of any alcoholic beverages, but due to the bluntness and rudeness of his public shaming of my wife and our new sister in law to be. We were at a window side table surrounded by other guests who could easily overhear the proclaimed man in charge. We left to exit in short time from the embarrassment. We had only been seated for mere minutes with no cause for our waitress to enlist her manager to contact us for her unwarranted concern. The same man circled the other way around as if to secretly spy on our departure. My brother in law and I encountered him by the bar where, without raising our voices, we curtly reiterated he had lost our patronage for life and I would no longer recommend the restaurant to anyone. In fact I would discourage anyone from patronizing such an establishment that would cause embarrassment to civil couples such as ourselves. Before leaving, I asked him if the waitress had been involved in a lawsuit that would cause her to overreact as she had. Not expecting an answer, he did not respond. The happy ending to this evening, was a short stroll to Loren where we dined in opulence with drinks for each of us. Our misfortune at Clinkerdagger, turned to great fortune at Loren where the service, atmosphere, wait staff, food and professionalism was far beyond expectation and that of Clinkerdagger. The professionalism of the Loren staff was above and beyond any ding experience I have had since our return to Spokane. I only wish I had bothered to ask for the manager's name, as he and the waitress deserve credit for their lack of discernment and tact. If anyone at Clinkerdagger cares to respond, please do. Crispy yummy shrimp, juicy tender steak bites, and the dip is filled with nice chunks of crab meat. We were killing time for our son's track meet and had the best service! The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the staff that we encountered was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately for us we got there too late to try the prime rib and lobster tail. (Sold Out) I had the ribeye which was cooked to perfection. The sides that came with the meal were also good. The lobster Mac & Cheese was dry on both orders at our table and the clam chowder was bland. The sampler appetizer was a hit with our table, as was the calamari. The smoked old fashion was spot on. The price of the meal was expensive, but it was expected for the kind of restaurant this is. Great place for dinner and drinks! We had this recommended to us by a gal at another restaurant and it was very good. We made a reservation (recommend you do this as it's very busy). They gave us a wonderful table by the river. We had 4 people in our party and everyone was happy with their dinner. Had a combo of appetizers, which was great. It had some Shrimp, some artichoke dip, teriyaki bites, etc. they also had a chowder that was delicious. The rest of the meal was delightful and the restaurant itself was very "cool" and inviting . It is my first time visiting Spokane this was high on the recommendation list when I was asking around of what to try. I was extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. I came during lunch and got some of the lunch items. The food was very salty. I started off with a lunch box for $25 that came with either a soup or salad along with an entree. I started with a clam chowders which was super thick and salty 0/5. Tasting appetizer which came with coconut shrimps, crab and artichoke dip and a seared teriyaki tenderloin. The coconut shrimps were overcooked but saved by the sauce on the side 1/5. Crab and artichoke dip was super oily and salty with minimal crab flavor, I will say the first bite is good but after 2 bites you'll be sick of it 1/5. The last appetizer, teriyaki tenderloin was SUPER salty, it was supposed to come with crispy rice but the rice tasted like something they scrapped off the bottom of a pan, it wasn't fully crispy and stuck to your teeth as you were eating 0/5. The last item I ordered was an Asiago crusted sole (not pictured) it came with 2 fried soles, rice and some potatoes. The sole was absolutely horrible, super salty, the crust was drenched with oil, potatoes were undercooked, rice was mediocre, very overcooked and doused in butter. I tried it with some lemon hoping it would mellow down the flavors but still delivered the same results, 0/5. Service wasn't too bad but we didn't get too much in conversation with our waitress. She was nice but also looked a little busy. We celebrated Father's Day at this restaurant. We have to order the set three-course meal. I guessed it made it easier for them to serve on this special busy day They serve our food with seasonal vegetables, which is the same for all entrees. Unfortunately the string beans were pretty tough. Like they were picked too late. Kind of disappointing really. Apart from that the king salmon was cooked beautifully, moist and not dry My prime rib , medium rare, more towards the rare forward. The salads were good , soup -clam chowder tasted great. Our server, Joe was very efficient and attentive, good job ! The ambiance is always great, but too many steps, not really handicapped friendly though. We ended our Spokane trip here and saw it was a popular place to eat based off its view, location, and reputable service and food. I forget the name of the gentleman who served our family, but he was lovely and our service was great. He was so prompt and made sure our drinks were refilled and our bellies were full. The location is inside of a building filled with mini-shops inside (it reminded me of Monterey,CA). I discovered that this place had been well established for over 50 years. My husband and I were sightseeing near the falls and saw this outdoor eating area overlooking the bridges near the falls, so we walked over to dine there. The entrance and indoor dining are dark yet intriguing. We wanted to eat outside, which was a good choice. I don't like to be in dark restaurants. We shared fish & and chips, and hubby had oysters. He said they were very good. I had a mango - lemonade - so good. They brought this garlic butter laden bread that was to die for. I would not suggest eating this if you are on a romantic date. We've been many times and always like to go back when we visit Spokane. We go for lunch to enjoy the view and ask for an outside table or one with river view. We ordered drinks and appetizers and our server brought drinks out but set them on the table next to us on the tray. It took about 10 minutes for her to finally come back and give us our drinks. We almost just grab them ourselves since it was right next to us within arms reach. The appetizer took about 20 minutes to arrive. We ordered the crab dip. I will admit the bread and butter was amazing. The French onion soup 2 of the guests had tasted off. I had the prime rib which was ok. Nothing amazing but not horrible. It makes me sad to write this... Clinkerdagger opened when I was a child and has always been a favorite, especially for holidays and special occasions. As a teen, their French Onion Soup made a girl who hated onions in any form into a French Onion Soup lover! I go there specifically for this menu item every time. We recently took our daughter there on my birthday and I was SO excited to have FOS for my entree :) What a disappointment! They could very well have dumped Campbells French Onion in the bowl and then watered it down. Zero flavor, no richness, no beautiful deep color, virtually undetectable wine flavor, non-caramelized onions. A total waste of money. I couldn't wait to share my favorite soup with my daughter, so she ordered it, too. My husband order the French Dip, and his Au Jus was completely watered down and flavorless, as well. We attempted to salvage the meal with Clink's famous Burnt Cream for dessert, and while the custard was fantastic and very much as we remember it, the crusty caramelized sugar topping was half as thick as it has been for the last several decades. We used to have to give it a good whack with the spoon to break it and it would lift like a sheet of ice. Now it just sort of crumbles. I was telling my sister-in-law about our experience, because her family have also been devoted Clink's fans for decades, and turns out they had the same disappointing experience a couple of months ago, but with different menu items. Those who haven't grown up with Clinkerdagger may still find the food worth the price, but not our extended family, for sure. That said, it is still a beautiful, cozy place with a great atmosphere, no plastic glassware, good service, and an amazing view of the Spokane River. However, our server, while quite attentive, never inquired how we were liking our food. I'm not surprised, as he's probably tired of hearing how it's not as good as it used to be... The ambience is beautiful. The service was great. The salad with the figs was superb. The mashed potatoes were probably the worst I have ever had. And the dinner was suppose to come with asparagus and caramelized onions. The "asparagus" was probably two small spears cut up with maybe two pieces of caramelized onions that were thrown on top of the hard semi cold mashed potatoes. My mashed potatoes had what I think was a piece of bark that I had to get rid of. I had the scallops. The coating was wayyyy too thick. The scallops inside were cooked perfectly. I really wish they had a very light coating on the scallops and put the vegetables in the side of the plate. I made a note in the reservation that it was my birthday, so they included a birthday card on the table. Nice touch! For an appetizer we chose the calamari which was lightly fried and had great texture. My entree was the almond crusted sea scallops, cooked to perfection and served with a delicious beurre blanc sauce. I could have licked the plate. Such an incredible disappointment. Reservations here at 7:15 for 5 to celebrate my son's graduation from WSU. Things started off great. We were seated by the window with a great view. Our server Taryn (I think was her name) was great. Appetizers and drinks came out as you'd expect from a higher end restaurant. Then came the downward spiral that was our entrees. We waited nearly 40-45 minutes for entrees. We noticed the table next to us, that was seated after us, got their food before us. Some of the food came out cold and my ribeye was pretty dry. I'd imagine this "dryness" came from sitting under a heat lamp for some time. Ribeye was bland and needed a fair amount of salt added to it to be palatable. I will say the Mac and cheese recommended by our waitress was great and the prime rib my son ordered was pretty good as well. Everything else was bland, dry, or cold. Our waitress, who was great btw, must have noticed our collective dissatisfaction in these entrees as she offered us free desserts and was great with filling waters and checking on us. At this point we were waiting so long it was almost 9pm and we had to get home. No dessert makes up for a 40-45 minute wait time for entrees. Unfortunately neither does any amount of service from our waitress. Although she tried valiantly. I would say when you're going to charge my party of 5 and I $421 for dinner, the food should come out at a decent time. We were told "it was a full house" which is why there was a delay in entrees. I would counter that with, if you can't handle all your seats full then maybe you should have less seats. It's fair to say my son's celebratory graduation dining experience was completely tarnished with this kitchens inability to keep up with a full house. With a bad dining experience I don't expect food to be comped or anything like that. In return I'd expect the restaurant as a whole to not expect a tip. It's not at all about the money, I have enough to tip them. But when the kitchen costs you about $80 on tip money I hope the message of our dissatisfaction is received. I wrote a note on the receipt insuring our waitress it was not her fault but her kitchen's. I hope they do better for their wait staff in the future. We don't live here, so we obviously won't be back. Our appetizer was burnt, which was taken back and replaced, and it was tepid. In the past it was always hot. My lunch was tepid, vegetables were cold, there was more breading than meat. Ends of the asparagus was burnt as was some of the Brussel sprouts. We had reservations to have dinner here in three weeks, when we are in town again, and we've cancelled them. This is the second meal in a row, here, that was well below their normal standards. It's a shame to see the food quality drop. The only thing that made our meal tolerable was our waiter. read more
