We stopped at this place to charge the Cybertruck on the way to Manhattan. What a cute diner. Coffee, drinks, food and dessert. All looked good with a kitschy, cool feel and atmosphere. I stopped at the Clinton Station Diner on my way home from Pennsylvania after hearing it was voted the best 24-hour diner in New Jersey. Naturally, I needed to investigate. I was seated right away and ordered the chicken Caesar salad with tortellini and a cup of coffee. The coffee arrived in what can only be described as a personal vat, which I appreciated. And the portions are HUGE. My salad could have comfortably fed three people. Fortunately, I am a big believer in tomorrow's lunch. The food was good, the service was quick, and there is something comforting about knowing that no matter what time it is, someone in Clinton, New Jersey is prepared to serve you an enormous plate of food and an unreasonable amount of coffee. Three stars instead of four or five because, at the end of the day, it's still a diner. My gf has been meaning to come here with me for a good year and we decided we'd go after a trip out of town. The diner is a fair ways out in an odd spot but seems to get steady traffic ranging from regulars and new comers just from experiences from customers during my visit. This diner appears to have won awards and has a few challenges for customers to partake in for cash prizes which i find interesting. The restaurant is well kept considering how old it is but also has a stationary train cart that's part of the restaurant. The vibe for this diner is nicer compared to most i've been to and is open 24 hours. When choosing breakfast we went with something simple. My gf got the waffle combo that came with eggs, ham, sausage, toast and a fairly sized belgian waffle and she cleaned the plate. her mother had the 2 eggs breakfast plate with your normal breakfast fixing and i had the farmers omelette. diving a little into the farmers omelette it was visually appealing but slightly on the flavorless side and i wanted to wait to put salt on it to see if it could go without but after 3 bites i threw on some salt and pepper. the wheat toast had some flavor to it but the bread crust made it a little tough. overall we finished our plates full and sated but i wasn't wowed. service was good and the food came out fast. TLDR: Max is a rude server, steak looked like slop and was way more fatty than it should be and eggs were overcooked. I come here once a week because it's my brother's favorite restaurant and this is where we like to meet for breakfast or lunch. Today we went with my fiancé and I ordered the steak and eggs. Something I have ordered from here already three or four times and have had no issue. When the steak arrived, my brother even made a comment that it looked like roadkill and slop on my plate. I asked for a steak knife, and I tried to cut it noticing it was all fat, yes it's a ribeye. I understand they're supposed to be fat, but not 75% of the steak should be fat. I said oh it's okay I'll just eat my eggs, my over easy eggs were completely cooked. I genuinely don't care that the food was messed up because I've gotten in the past and it's been fine. It's a $20 meal so I asked the server Max to take it off of the check. When I told him the eggs are overcooked in the steak was way too fatty, instead of asking me if I would like something else, he took the plate and mumbled under his breath "That's because it's a ribeye" and walked away. I was never annoyed that the food wasn't good. I was now irritated because I was being sassed by a server who is barely talking to us to begin with. It wasn't until he overheard me saying he didn't even ask me if I wanted anything else that he then came back 10 minutes later once my fiancé and brother were done eating and asked me if I wanted anything else. Obviously not now? I worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years. This is not how you act in this kind of situation. He's lucky my brother paid for the check. Otherwise I would've not tipped him at all. So anyways, yes my brother and I have been coming here at least once a week for the last few months and now we will not be back because of this situation. Stopped in for breakfast Sunday morning and enjoyed a great breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon & sausage. The prices were average and it was a good value for the price. I bookmarked the Clinton Station Diner when I read about the eating challenges and how interesting the restaurant is, as a former train car. So when we were passing through, this was our lunch time break. No, I did not try and do any of their insane eating challenges. For Mrs. K. and us, this was a normal diner lunch. We don't have too many of these "we have everything" diners back home so it was a treat. Our waitress brought a burger to a neighboring table and it looked amazing. But I'd had a burger for dinner last night so I settled on a Reuben and switched it to turkey. What arrived a few minutes later was a MASSIVE plie of food. Toasted rye bread on the bottom, cole slaw in the middle and piled high with thick pieces of turkey breast and with melted Swiss cheese on top. Next to that, a pile of hand cut fries. Amazing. It was delicious, filling and fresh. A really awesome meal. And speaking of awesome, Sonia greeted us with a warm smile and an easy charm that instantly made the meal special. She anticipated our needs with quiet grace, never hovering but always appearing at just the right moment. Her genuine kindness and effortless professionalism turned a simple meal into a memorable experience. As well, a reasonably quiet seating area was most pleasant. Been here several times, as we use to pass it on our way north from New Jersey. Large diner with lots of seating. You can eat in the train car (room permitting). Large diner menu. All the food is delicious and plentiful. So many Dessert choices. Unfortunately, they give you so much food, I rarely have room. Service was very good and attentive. I have been coming to this diner for years. I have truly enjoyed coming here when visiting family nearby, quite literally every time we come to town. The past few times we came over the past few years it seemed "off", but this time...I'm just sad. But before I get into the food thing, I want to address the service. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to wait on us at the bar since no one was attending it, but once they knew we were there, they checked on us, and it was good. So please don't get upset, it just may take someone a minute to see you there. The table service was impeccable, seriously wonderful table service...he didn't miss a beat. Now for the food: I suppose it depends on what you order, or maybe it's hit or miss these days? My Pastrami Reuben had super thick slices that were tough, making it hard to chew, and had no flavor. Members of my party had a chicken BLT and a burger, and both were ok flavor-wise, but very dry, making them hard to get through. Just taking a little bite of their sandwiches was enough for me. However, another member had flatbread, and it was fine. Fries were served cold and had zero flavor. We've had the same flavorless and tough food experiences the past few times we have eaten here over the past few years. The presentation is good, but once it hits the lips, mouth, and teeth, you get the real story. The beer is always cold though! The prices are fair, and the atmosphere is unique, although the toy train near the ceiling doesn't seem to be working anymore. Although I didn't get dessert this time, the desserts are normally good. There is more than ample parking, and depending on how you drive here, it can be a little tricky getting to. Follow the GPS if you aren't from around here. This diner is supposed to be the best 24-hour diner, and I'm not sure why. Again, service was wonderful, but if the food isn't always good or flavorful, then why? I hadn't been to the Clinton Station Diner in years, so it was great to go back. The place is unique with a semi-rustic feel, a rail car section, and one long showcase of desserts. In fact, I have been to diners around the country and have never seen this extensive of a menu. My girlfriend got a cheese steak with onions. The flavor was great and the roll was amazing though were fresh cut fries were cool. My Greek Omelette (feta, onion, tomato, and kalamata olives) was good but lacked a little flavor, oddly enough. My potatoes were cool and so was my rye toast. My iced coffee was fantastic as well as the really tasty fruit cup. Our server, Lexi, was absolutely amazing. Our fries were BURNT and inedible. They tasted like old fryer oil was being used. The waitress never came back to check on us until we were already done with our food. The rest of the food was just OK, nothing special. We mentioned the fries and service when we paid, and the cashier seemed nonchalant about it. He did say he would mention it to the manager and offered us a cookie. We had been to the diner a few times before and thought it was excellent. Just to start off. The atmosphere is dull with no high energy in the air. When getting seated in, it was nice I guess. And as I was my food ordered the service was alright and for the food, I find it pretty much the same food dishes which every Diner has but I wasn't having a big appetite atp, I ordered the cheese steak sandwich from there thinking it is a good portion to fill me up which it did but as for the roll of the bread, it was niche not the usual hoagie bread it would come but it was alright. Just to say the place is located was ok to be in but it was ok to eat there. But overall, I think what it can improve is the dullness of the place inside and give more of energy in the air. read more

Definitely a nice visit with the kids. Which kid doesn't like trains? We came here because we wanted to charge our electric vehicle while dining. There were plenty of charging spots and regular spots. The dining in the train car is limited though, so it's first come first serve. There is a much bigger dining area in the restaurant but not part of the train car. I personally thought it was very cool that the train car is nearly 100 years old. Imagine the history that the train car witnessed. The food was decent, the fries could have been a bit crunchier. The payment is done at the front desk, which was fine. What was a bit weird was the tipping there was no percentage and it was only a dollar amount, so I guess it's best to calculate the amount before you're about to pay. So my wife and I decided to give CSD a try. First visit for us and the place is a very unique 24 hour x 7 days diner. We ordered a full stack Buttermilk Pancakes and side of sausages. The taste was excellent for both. But for my plate, the grill cook decided to 'hide their mistakes' under the top Pancakes. The middle pancake was. Issuing a big chunk and the bottom cake was very thin and also not a full circle. I bought it to waiters attention who had manager mark the meal down to a short stack, an .80 cents savings! Wow . Food and service very disappointing. Floors, bathrooms, windows were all dirty. This place needs a deep clean. Person who seated us had very long, waist-length hair that brushed against the salad bar as she walked by, saw it happen multiple times. Server ignored us after dropping off our food, not checking back until we were ready to leave. Received burned french fries that tasted like old oil fryer oil is being used. My husband had an omelette that was just ok, not fluffy and flavorless. We used to love to stop here on our way home from NYC, will not be back. This diner definitely needs a major makeover... sitting in the " train" car has lots of chipped paint on the ceiling . The carpeting definitely needs to be replaced to say the least or maybe update with flooring now that it's 2026. The curtains are basically done. Now for the food. The portions are quite large which is a plus , but I feel the quality has gone downhill in the past five years. The fries weren't hot and rather dry. The Greek salad needed more "salad." Went on Tuesday afternoon for an early dinner with a friend at 5pm. We were seated along the wall to the kitchen and the door didn't have stop. It was incessant loud banging for the duration of our meal. Not pleasant. My open faced turkey sandwich came with no gravy - when I asked for some, I was brought a gelatinous yellow goop with no flavor. I hurt my leg and needed a booth. The manager said I could not sit at the booth because it was dinner time. I needed it for tables of four people. So I said a small table and everybody hit my leg which was really hurting. I saw three other tables come in with two people and getting the table that I wanted with the booth. When I mentioned that to the manager on the way out, that wasn't nice and everybody else was sitting at the table and only with two people did a smile and laugh and thought it was so funny.
