I wanted to give a shout-out to this diner and to Sofia, our waitress. I ordered a 10oz steak with mashed potatoes and a salad. Everything was great, the steak was done to my request, and the salad was large. It was the mashed potatoes that I really appreciated about this meal; the clumps of potato told me they were homemade. I had a nice experience when going here the other day. I had mixed emotions because I heard a rumor that it was not so good. Well they were wrong. It was not too busy and very clean. Food was good. Food quality was good. Service was good. Ambiance is amazing. I love how clean and inviting it is. Very sleek and modern. BUT the thing that stops me (and many people that I know) from making this place a regular spot is: it's too expensive. The prices are high to begin with and there's an up charge for almost anything. Most things you would expect to come with fries come with "chips" and you have to pay $3 extra on top of the high prices to get fries. (Also as someone who is extremely critical of French fry quality they weren't even that good. I'm very picky with French fries. It's not that anything was necessarily wrong with them. They were just "battered fries".) If your meal comes with soup and salad and you want to upgrade to French onion it's $3 extra and if you want a Caesar salad it's $2 extra. So if you get a chicken fingers basket for 19.99 and the 2 add ons for $5, that's $25. Travel less than a mile down the highway and there's 2 all you can eat places that range from 14.99-26.99 (depending on day and time) but for arguments sake let's say dinner time. So it would cost 1.99 more to go to an all you can eat. Guess which one I'm going to? The diner is very nice. But I don't wanna pay for your renovation! ‍ Someone had to say it. I'll drive to Easton for the better value. Bottom line: you'll enjoy the food, atmosphere and staff but you won't feel like your buck got you as far as it would anywhere else. I wouldn't mind the elevated prices if this were a fine dining experience but it's not. It's just a diner. read more

Food & service both very good. I got the chicken cordon bleu (it's not coated in flour, so a yes for a low carb lifestyle). It comes with side salad & soup - gave the soup (pepper pot) to my granddaughter (again.... Carbs) also came with a side salad was fresh & crispy. I only have a picture of my leftover chicken reheated in the air fryer at home, and I added some tomatoes & broccoli. Just as good reheated! Ok but wouldn't go out of my way for this diner. I ordered an ice tea not realizing they only serve it from the fountain. To say ithe ice tea was gross would be an understatement. Once the waitress let me know it was a fountain drink and not brewed I asked for a Coke instead. That was just as nasty as the ice tea. Upon paying the bill I told them that both beverages were horrible and they let me know that they had someone come to fix the fountain a few days prior. If the fountain was not working correctly, did no one check to make sure it was ok before serving to anyone? The food was mediocre. The building appears to have been redone recently so it's quite nice actually but that's not gonna cut it. read more

Very pleasantly surprised. Got off the highway for a quick dinner while passing through. The menu has everything you could possibly want and more. I ordered Greek pork Souvlaki with pitas. It came with soup (creamy potato) and a fresh green salad and fries! It was more food than I could eat and I took more than half my meal to go. It was delicious but huge portions! My husband got stuffed peppers with mashed potatoes and mixed veggies along with soup (an excellent lentil soup) and salad. Two huge stuffed peppers! We easily could have split one entree but glad we didn't because we got another meal for the next day. Service was quick and friendly, our waitress was training a new staff and was super attentive. Woke up early and craving potatoes, so, we headed to the post-fire renovation re-opening of the diner for breakfast this Sunday after Independence Day. The inside decor is not the same ole diner from our late night stops back in 1980's. The cityscape mural on the one wall, all new floors and all updated furnishings throughout. And with the economy since Covid, the food costs are super expensive. All over, double priced food with smaller portions. A shout out to Carla, a ROCKSTAR server, whose reasonto make customers happy, was on pointe with a personality to match. Great gal. Ok, 3 scrambled eggs, home fries and dry toast, $8.99. Meh. Chicken fried steak, eggs, & home fries, $13.99. I'm noticing restaurants are not only raising prices PLUS omitting a side. It's what's happening and I'm leaving hungry. A bit of sticker shock on the menu prices to be perfectly honest. Before the fire I knew the owner and the staff, so I miss the old staff. When they reopened after the fire, the food was incredible! Generous portions, excellently prepared and delicious. Fast forward to Feb. 2025 and well, now, not so much. Its the exact opposite. Breakfast plates are served in very poor preparation, overcooked with scant ingredients. The table service is still excellent, but it's pretty clear that its now just overpriced food without regard for quality or serving size quantity. Most days I drive by, and the parking lot is more often than not empty, and I know why. Was just there, left very disappointed. I won't be going back any longer, just a waste of money. A very old school diner from the outside. I thought the coffee was very good. My breakfast was really good. The sausage Gray Benedict was full of flavor and completely action packed! My home fries were crisp, as requested. Unfortunately my pancakes were cold. My traveling associate explained to me his sausage gravy with biscuits and eggs was room temperature at best. Service also wasn't impressive. It took a long period of time to simply get coffee. They did seem short staffed. Food was great! Service fell short. I do recommend this place for a very good meal, and hopefully, service can get some help. read more

Decided to check out Key City Diner after the fire. Used to eat there often and enjoyed my favorite, chicken franchiaise. Nice renovation job, leaning much more modern. I ordered without consulting the menu, and sipped a raspberry iced tea while I waited. The waitress arrived with a dish that was anything but chicken franchaise. The breast was breaded as opposed to an egg coating and the sauce was bland. The pasta was mushy and not especially hot. Oh well. Then the bill arrived. $32 for this meal. I don't mind paying for good food, but this is a diner, not a fine Italian restaurant. The service was adequate and I left a tip. But I will not be returning with prices like that. Not really my part of NJ, but I was traveling through the area with a friend, he was feeling hungry and light-headed (diabetes? hypoglycemia? he should probably get that checked out with a doctor...but I digress...), and this place presented itself. It looked like an old-style diner, the kind of place that's been around forever and hasn't spent money on a "modernistic facelift," which is a point in its favor, as far as I'm concerned. I'm a sucker for breakfast food when I'm in a diner...which actually isn't very often...so I ordered 3 pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs, home fries and ham, along with a glass of orange juice. My friend ordered some kind of omelet, which seemed huge. The waitress was friendly enough and efficient, and the food came out with relative speed. My feelings about the food were mixed. I thought the eggs, home fries and ham were good, although the ham was a bit tough. The pancakes, however, were bland and tasteless and I had to use a lot of syrup. My friend complained that his omelet was also without much in the way of flavor, and he used a lot of ketchup. Prices were reasonable. Would I eat here again if I were in the area? Maybe. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if I were in the area again, and hungry, I could probably do worse. I stopped here while passing through the area at 3:30 pm on a Monday, Halloween to be exact. Usually at Jersey diners, the staff is old and crotchety, which is part of the charm in my mind. To my mild surprise, the staff here at this time was pretty young, everyone was dressed in costume, and everyone was very friendly. Nice touch, gang! Plus, the sausage egg and cheese sandwich was incredibly good. It wasn't busy at that time, so I was able to hop back on the road in record time. Recently I went to the Key City Diner in Phillipsburg. It came highly recommended to me so when the opportunity presented itself, I drove a bit out of my way to go. I arrived around 5 pm. It wasn't too crowded and there was plenty of seating. Atmosphere: You can't miss the Key City Diner. When driving by, there is a giant Key Sign and it looks like a stereotypical diner. It's a big metallic, shiny, diner and is definitely everything you picture in a diner. The inside feels as if you stepped into a time machine when diners were created. Interestingly enough, there was also a decently sized salad bar too which is something many diners now lack. Service: The waitress was a bit awkward and either new or not comfortable. She did refill our beverages and the food came out quickly, but every interaction was awkward. When I ordered a gyro, the women quickly and wrongly corrected me in the pronunciation. Later, she pronounced it a different a wrong way. Not a big deal, but just one instance of interaction. Coffee: There was nothing unusual or unique about the coffee but it wasn't bad either. The waitress brewed it hot and kept it refilled. Food: The Key City Diner has everything you could picture in a diner. Breakfast all day, multiple dinner meals, salads, and seafood. As I mentioned, it also has a salad bar too. I opted for a beef Gyro with a Caesar salad. The gyro itself was good and had plenty of beef. It came with fries which they gave me an entire plate. The Caesar salad was filled and I appreciated they already added the dressing. Overall Summary/Would I come back? I enjoyed the Key City Diner and if I'm back in the area I would come back. We have tried for years to like this place. But it is consistently bad food and high prices. We just paid $42 for breakfast and it was not edible. Over cooked eggs, under cooked bacon. Don't send things back as they burn it instead of cooking it properly. The servers are lovely but the cooks are terrible. Save your time and money and go to Sullivans on Main for a way better breakfast at a better price point. read more

On the road from Maine to home I get to stop here once a year, this place never disappoints. The food, the service. Second to NONE! If you are traveling West on I-78 this place is a welcome stop. Just a few miles on RT.22 and when you are done you can keep going on 22 west for it hooks up with I-78 on the other side of the Lehigh Valley. I had the Chicken Dijon Mustard Sandwich with fries. You are a "keeper" with all of the right qualities for making people feel special and comfortable during their time at the Key City Diner (and, no, Breanna is not a friend or relative). The food was good. My wife enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich. My daughter really liked the hamburger and the fries received three "yes'" votes. My open turkey sandwich could have been served hotter and I would appreciate the option to have brown, instead of white, gravy on top. My salad was fresh and had a nice presentation and the soup was hot, tasty, and filling. The manager came to the table to check on us. Nice touch... Note that business was a bit slow in the diner during our visit. I witnessed multiple staff with spray bottles and towels doing cleaning duty for surfaces that multiple people touch.
