Whenever we move, I have anxiety about locating a clock expert able to competently service our 200+ year old grandfather clock, and that anxiety peaked when our recently moved (3 years ago) clock stopped working. I acquired the clock about 54 years ago in Argyllshire, Scotland, so it probably originated on or near the turf of Jeff's Campbell ancestors. I inherited my grandparents' 1971 grandmother clock, which had been in storage for a while. The pendulum had been removed and the weights were in a box. I contacted Jeff to see if he could put it back together and get it running again. Jeff makes housecalls, so we set up a time for him to come to my house to take a look at the clock. Jeff took everything apart, checked and oiled the pieces, and tested the movement to make sure it was keeping proper time. Then he put it all back together, being careful to set the moon in the right phase. I was behind him when the clock started chiming, so I'm sure he didn't see me tear up when I suddenly heard the sound I remembered from my childhood. My grandparents' clock was working again. Jeff leveled the feet and he taught me how to care for the clock. He showed me how to set the time and the moon calendar, how to raise the weights, and how to adjust the speed of the pendulum. I have a Hermle mantle clock that stopped working. It's not a super expensive clock, but I really like it and it has a very nice chime for a quartz battery operated clock. I contacted a few clock repair shops to see if they could fix it but didn't have any luck. I ran across Jeff's Clock Repair from a web search and spoke to Jeff. He understood what to do and was able to repair the clock. I made the trek up to Seven Fields and left the clock with Jeff in his shop in the garage of his house (please note his shop is in a residential area, not commercial). He needed to order a new movement and install it. Only a couple of days or so he called me to let me know it was ready. I picked it up and it's working great.
