Both my front and rear brakes were absolutely destroyed from my bad driving and lack of maintenance. I looked around online and got prices well over $1000 for repair. I have used Clutch & Brake Doctors multiple times. Much like the other reviewer I could not believe the price. The first time I figured at half of the dealership I'll give it a try. We have not had a problem with the clutch they installed in a year or more. Yesterday I dropped off a van for brakes. I have given up getting an estimate because so far all my repairs (10 plus jobs) have been so fair I couldn't believe it. Today they called and said other than the brakes it needed a rotor. I did ask how much and was told $54.00. I asked if it would be better if we replaced both of them and was told it was better but not necessary as the van was not used daily. Now for under $250.00 I have new Pads, 2 new calipers, and 2 new rotors. I called a parts store and the parts alone were just under $200.00. Now that's a fair repair price!! Their oil changes are more than the $19.95 lost leaders but I would expect so. The big chains always try to upsell and that's where they make the money. Nothing like a $6.95 air filter for $23.95 at the chains. read more

I called last minute to get my car in after I picked up my car from the dealership that had repaired something else and told me my front brakes were gone and it would cost $550.00 for them to install new ones. Thomas over at Clutch Doctors on 4th plain was very rude when I mistakingly went into his business instead of precision tune Auto Care which is directly next door. He told me in a rude tone that I had the wrong business but would "figure it out" and when I asked if the other business was nearby he told me to go stand in the parking lot and "stare at the 90ft sign" to help me get to where I needed to go. I made the mistake because it's all apart of the same Auto Care complex which I haven't been to before and while I can see how it would be frustrating to have patrons for another business enter yours he needs to realize that a great way to get future business for potential clutch work would be to politely let people know that it's a common mistake (the Auto Care folks even remarked that it's a common mistake and that Thomas doesn't like when people mix up their businesses) and that they want the business next door. Everyone that knows me knows that I rarely write negative reviews but that customer service is just uncalled for and needs to be highlighted. They've definitely lost any future clutch repair business from me because of Thomas's rude behavior. read more

This was my first time taking in my forrester for brake repairs. Called Monday morning and Thomas was able to get me in the same day. He was very friendly and immediately knew what was wrong with my car. The wait was two hours due to parts being ordered but that came within an hour. His techs were efficient and thorough. Thomas regularly updated the progress on my repair and even showed me my worn down brake. price was fair. I waited for the two hours, but with wifi and A/C, i didnt complain! This morning was my first time visiting Clutch Doctors after realizing these last few weeks that I would need new brakes. I always dread going for car repairs! After doing research online and calling 4 different establishments (Ron's Auto, Les Schwab, etc) at 8am this morning, I called these guys last and they gave me the best quote (half of what the other ones were) and got me in promptly at 9am. They checked front & rear and said only front needed replacement and had me in and out in just over an hour. Plus they checked my oil and filled up my coolant and windshield fluid as a courtesy. No up selling, no unnecessary work done. Love it! Quite a refreshing experience from the last time brakes were done. I just gave them 4/5 stars as I want to drive the car around more before I give them 5! I'll update later. I'll be back for whatever mechanical work I need, hopefully not for a long time! It's such a shame. I've been here on another occasion as it's close to work. They did OK work. Nothing really to comment on; it's been fine. This last time, I had the clutch replaced. The work was done quickly and I had the vehicle back the same day. The price was quite reasonable. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a strange coincidence. Coincidentally to the clutch being replaced and transmission removal and replacement, my shift boot assembly was broken, or...broke itself - as if by magic. No problem. It happens. Honestly, I couldn't care less; let's just get it taken care of, right? It flops around when I drive, is loud, and looks ridiculous. I called and they were very willing to have a look. Told me to bring it right down. That was the point at which they stopped being helpful. I brought the vehicle back, they looked and agreed that it was physically broken - snapped-apart-broken, but swore up and down that it must have been coincidence, as they couldn't possibly have been in the vehicle or so much as touched this part. Huh. Not in the vehicle. To replace a clutch. Never touched the shift boot? Never tried to get it out of the way? Never tried to do anything with it? That was not the answer I expected. But, I gave them credit for creativity and left to go check with the dealer on how to fix this magical breakage. At the dealership, they confirmed several things. 1) I wasn't functionally retarded. 2) This part gets broken often during clutch replacements on this vehicle, so they have MANY on hand, 3) It WAS quite a funny coincidence that it magically broke, (through no fault of the Doctors, of course!) during a very common procedure in a very common manner, 4) it was very difficult to r&r the tranny in this vehicle and not break it, and 5) that it was a $40 replacement. Great! Armed with this information, I went back to the Doctors, hat in hand, and explained the Dealership's position, repeated that it wasn't a big deal; that I just wanted it repaired. They looked at me as if I didn't speak English and explained that it wasn't them. I asked very clearly, one last time, if it was even remotely possible that they had anything to do with it. "Nope." was the answer. "Just a coincidence." So. I took the cheap route and fixed it myself with $5 worth of materials and about 3 hours of my own time wasted running around town with this debacle. While repairing it, I found that the inner shift boot had been left dangling. Oh, I mean: removed (post-repair, of course!) by, I suspect, the magical boot fairies that were in there ripping the hell out of the vehicle _after_ I got it back. I repaired that, also. If you're a fan of unexplained coincidence, being treated like an ignorant child, being forced to plead when your vehicle isn't returned in the same condition as when you brought it in, then I would highly recommend Clutch Doctors. In fact, I'm giving them 5 stars. If there's something wrong with the rating system, I can't be held responsible for that...must be a coincidence. read more

I was standing in line at Safeway and chatting with someone behind me. She had just picked up her car and was raving about this place. She gave me their card because I said the dealership said my car needs new brakes. Yesterday, I brought my car to Clutch & Brake Doctors for the new brakes. He called me later to say that I don't need new brakes yet. He said I can wait and get more out of these brakes; they're at about 30%. I couldn't believe it. He also test drove my car for another issue I mentioned and when I got there, NO CHARGE. I've heard of jacked up prices, mechanics telling you that your car needs something it doesn't, or dealerships getting you to do unnecessary work prematurely, like mine did, but I NEVER heard someone at a repair place say you don't need this yet. He's no BS. I made an appointment for mid-December to have my brakes replaced before winter sets in. I can make it another 3.5 months on the brakes I have. This guy is HONEST. It's soo hard to find anyone like this these days, so I took some of his business cards and am recommending him to everyone. They do more than just clutch and brakes, check them out. Keep it local, no funding multi-national big brand places...like Meineke. He's a local, family business. He won't give you anything you don't really want and need. 10 stars! read more

Clutch blew out on my car a few months back, called some of the usual suspects for local car repair, including dealer, all were in the range of $1500-1800 - yeesh! Clutch Doctors took care of my repair for $700 parts and labor! I was a little disturbed when I called and got the quote, seemed too good to be true, and they said something about not giving written estimates - I may have misunderstood, but I think according to WA state law they're supposed to. In any case, they replaced the clutch, it's been working fine, and the bill came to exactly what they quoted over the phone, so my two cents - trust these guys! read more

these guys are crooks. paid 700 bucks for a bunch of crap. Took them 2 days to finish my clutch, and when i got it back they told me i was missing the plate between the motor/tranny (grinded when starting) AFTER everything was done, so the next day wouldnt start (teeth wernt lined up, because of the missing plate) and said its on you. so I found the plate and put it in the next few days. even after i put the plate in, it still grinded. so i took it back again, and they said you drove it like that. we cant do anything. WHAT A WASTE OF MY MONEY! WILL NEVER RETURN HERE OR SEND ANYBODY THERE WAY! STAY AWAY!!!! on top of that, i was having other issues (hard time going in 1st, clutch slips alot in higher gears, and bearings began making noise) AND THEY STILL WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF IT!!!!!! What a positive experience. Walt was amazing and took great care of us. My son's clutch was in bad shape. I called to schedule an appointment and they couldn't get me in until Monday of the following week; however, he knew it was important to get it in ASAP. He called the very next morning and got it in. They worked hard and stayed late in order to have it back to us the same day. Great service, welcoming environment and all around great group of guys. Very poor service. Took a car in to clutch doctors to get checked out. At the time I was short the money to have the car fixed so I notified the technician who was looking at my car I would return in a couple days. I asked if I was able to park the car until I return and asked where I should park. The guy I dealt with told me where to park and assured me the car would be ok until I returned. I went back to clutch doctors today to retrieve the car to find it had been towed. When I spoke to the owner of clutch doctors, Thomas he said it wasn't his problem and refused to hold his mechanic and his establishment accountable. I do not reccomend any body visits this company in the future due to this poor experience. read more

FULL SERVICE auto repair. THOMAS is honest. They do great work there. Amazingly great place to bring your car. I don't trust much and won't leave a good review unless the business is tops. Happy to leave poor reviews in a pinch if the place doesn't take care of the customer. I've worked in customer service for so many years, that is what makes or breaks a deal. There, not only is customer service quality, but the workmanship, honesty, diagnostics, all that was more than a girl can hope for. I know nothing about cars except how to drive one. A lot of car places take advantage of someone with my lack of auto knowledge. Thomas was honest and fair and they all did a great job working on my car. It is important for safety to have a good working car. It would be a difficult situation to be without my car.
