BUCK BUCK BUCKAAAAAAW!!!!!! I try to be a nice person, and rarely will I be so rude as to call out a fellow yelper on a point where I think they are just wrong (everyone has opinions!). But to the yelper who complained that this place doesn't serve beef or veggie options? Really? It is a chicken shop, not The Cheesecake Factory or Cafe Rouge. It isn't out to please everyone, it is out to please those who seek chicken. If you don't want chicken, don't come here. Full stop. If you DO want chicken (and a place that takes pride in serving up 'happy', ethically-sourced birds), definitely come here. Now. There are plenty of upscale grilled chicken spots in London these days, but very few focus on fried chicken, which this place does. And it does so pretty dang well. Sure, the chicken was great (though perhaps not as moist on the thicker parts of the breast as some places I've had in the States). But really, what made this place so great, in addition to overall well-cooked chicken were the sauces and sides. Excellent chips, tasty, crunchy coleslaw (and not too mayo-y), delectable gravy, lick-your-plate-good garlic/truffle aioli, nice chilli chutney.... the soy honey sauce on the wings I seriously wanted to pick up and drink. Both the soy chilli sauce and buttermilk fried preparations of the chicken were good. The lemon parmesan tenders were a bit drier, but still really good (and that aioli!!)... and the wings were excellent (oh, that soy honey sauce!)... Cute, tiny space with stylish decor and lovely dish ware. Plus they took my booking over twitter, always a plus (especially when Chicks on Fire, another chicken place, couldn't be bothered to update their hours on their own damn webpage and we showed up recently and they were closed). So I always appreciate it when a business shows they want my business on the interwebs. I'm sure I'll be back a lot when my waistline permits (or Rob H. begs).

Fried chicken blah blah, mana from heaven blah blah...if this is the first time you've read one of my fried chicken reviews, apologies, but I can't open every single fried chicken review with the same rhetoric. In short, I consider my fried chicken quest to be of a similar scope to Ocarina of Time because I'm overly dramatic like that. I've been pretty blessed on my quest in the last couple of months (definitely not the Water Temple) with places such as The Devonshire Arms, the K-style Jubo, and the reopened Rita's all serving very good chicken. However, Clutch. Yes, that is deliberate verb omission. To sum up Clutch in one word: fcoafoahfgiseduhgisud. I reckon this is probably the sort of review that I'll look back on in a couple of months and wonder what the hell I was thinking - to be honest, I'm probably still drunk on chicken (or high if they've been sprinkling crack into their batter. They almost definitely haven't, but it is exceptionally moreish. Clutch employees, if you're reading this, it's not libel, it's a compliment). If you're smart, you'll have skipped my ramblings above: the tl;dr is that Clutch is a chicken shop. The space itself is pretty small with room for about 20-30 diners. The decor seems to sit halfway between modern gastropub and upmarket bistro (very white, bulbs with giant filaments) and is pretty cosy (especially before they figured out how to stop the heating unit blasting hot air at our necks). There's also a bar attached to the back, and Clutch offer a small selection of cocktails in case you feel a bit too grubby about eating fried chicken and want to counterbalance that with something. Between 5 of us, we had: - 1 bucket of peppery buttermilk fried chicken (between 6-8 pieces usually) - 1/2 bucket of soy and garlic fried chicken - 1 load of parmesan and lemon tenders - 1 bucket of soy wing tips - 2 portions of chips - GRAVY - Slaw To be honest, the best way to review this would be to post a link to me eating. The 'standard' fried chicken was excellent and hands down the best of its ilk that I've tried in London. Thin, crunchy, tasty batter encasing juicy, flavourful happy chicken. No sogginess, no insipid chicken, minimal greasiness. Some people may argue that the batter could do with a little more seasoning, but for me this was perfect. Oh, and the gravy. The gravy is exceptional - intensely flavoured and full of pepper. "Do you mind if I drink the gravy?" "No Rob, go ahead." Music to my ears. Whilst for me the buttermilk chicken was undoubtedly the star of the show, the other dishes didn't disappoint either - the parmesan chicken tenders are pretty good (they were a tiny bit on the dry side, but only marginally so), but the accompanying garlic-truffle aioli is just awesome. The soy garlic sauce items were great too - I like the style, although less so than regular fried chicken as it tends to be less crunchy - but they've got the sauce just right. Again, this was perfectly cooked, so very enjoyable. The bill came out to around £15 per head - whilst not cheap for fried chicken, this was in the same ballpark as the fried chicken from The Devonshire Arms; whilst I could happily have eaten another half bucket, I can chalk that up to a case of me being disgusting rather than me being still hungry. Whilst my fried chicken quest may never truly end, Clutch have acquitted themselves exceptionally well and are quite simply the best in the business in London. Alongside Jubo and Rita's, East London's revival of this noble and sacred art form is a serious hazard to my health and wallet. And I love it.

A tasty brunch in the sunshine (and frequent gusts of wind which kept things interesting!) on their astro-turfed front terrace. It's a bit of a trek to get here but you can't help but smile when you spot the bright yellow building on an otherwise fairly drab street. My friend led me astray by ordering a cocktail, so I followed suit with a mimosa (yes this is possibly why I'm friends with her). I could have eaten anything from the compact brunch menu so ended up just ordering the first thing - chicken and waffles! No regrets from me, especially after tasting the bourbon syrup. My friend ordered the sweet and spicy wings with a side of avocado (she likes being unexpected) and was initially daunted when they brought out the 12 wings as she'd forgotten to specify 6. She somehow found room to polish them all off though! Our waiters were chatty and spoke to us like we were their mates which was strangely endearing here. It was easy to while away a leisurely couple of hours nattering away without feeling like we were being rushed. Prices were hipsterly reasonable too!

I feel bad giving this place a low review... and I really really wanted to LOVE it... but I left feeling just blah Pro: -really chic funky place -hidden and would have never guessed such a funky place was down this side street -wonderful interior design and concept con: -overpriced -my husband had the banana bread with turkey beacon and guacamole- both of us did not like it and he normally loves everything... he could barely eat it and did not finish it. -I had the sour & spicy chicken wings £12 with a sickling amount of sauce -We ended up paying over £40 for two small unsatisfying dishes and a lemonade and a beer... felt that it was a bit steep for what it was. if it was drop dead amazing I would not have any issue paying that. -They even charge for sauce (homemade ketchup)! I asked for sauce but was not told it was a charge nor did I expect to pay for ketchup nor did I know that it was going to come out homemade... it was interesting, more like a salsa.. but not bad tasting either

    yummy!!

I went there on a Sunday to get some brunch. I had really high expectations as the place seems so praiseworthy based on what people had said on Yelp. A friend of mine even had recommended me the place. So let's go!!! I have to say I fell in love with the food. They are meant to be chicken specialists. And they really are. A stone thrown away from the busy flower market, this nice little cafe has much to offer. A lovely terrace, a cool restaurant room where you will end up sharing your table with other people (which is fun if you happen to sit next to orange-ish Brit cliches with fake eyelashes... :) ). And there is a also a bar which was not open though. Their latte was rather good - it is just a latte after all. Nothing much to brag about really. I also had the Clutch Mac Muffin. A yummy double chicken burger with a bit of salad with it. It was really tasty. But bloody hell, it was small... For a tall guy like me I need at least 2 of them. And well that's £10 for this... For that reason I can't really give 5 stars. I had to get something else to eat during the afternoon... My friend went for the Sunday roast - I'll leave you guessing which meat... - and it was pretty good apparently. I would recommend you to go if you are not starving but want something light and good. And then you can pop to the market if you are ready to be surrounded by crowds...

As a non-chicken eater I have to rely upon my bf's comments that 'this is the best chicken shop in London' however as a veggie, they do good halloumi and killer drinks. The fact that it's run by Irish owners means that you come across nice surprises like Potín being on the cocktail menu! Really cool place for evening drinks and dancing late.

FOOD 10/10 I haven't eaten Indian food much, but was thoroughly impressed. From my mango lassi which was perfectly sweetened and tart to buttered buns, fried okra, black Dahl, garlic naan, and lamb skewers, everything was delicious. I esp loved the lamb skewers! We ordered a side of garlic naan with cheese which is basically a quesadilla and it was super cheesy and delicious as well. OVERALL Would def recommend Dishoom when visiting London. The food was exceptional -- aroma, flavors, spice levels, portions; everything was perfect. While visiting London, a local friend invited me to Dishoom, knowing how much I love Indian cuisine. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 5PM, and the place was already packed. They don't take reservations for dinner unless you're a large group, but trust me, the wait is worth it. They have a fantastic bar where you can grab drinks while you wait for a table (they give you buzzers). I tried the Negroni and another tequila-based cocktail (sadly I can't remember the name), and both were phenomenal. Shared plates are definitely the way to go at Dishoom. We ordered the gunpowder potatoes (incredible), an appetizer with potatoes and pineapple (not my favorite; the pineapple threw me off), monkfish curry (amazing), and chicken curry. It was a lot of food for just two of us, but I couldn't stop eating. I seriously wanted to bottle up that sauce! The service was surprisingly impeccable, especially considering how busy they were. We ended up spending about £110 for an incredible dinner, and we nearly couldn't finish everything. Lastly, the ambiance! Inspired by Iranian cafes in India, the atmosphere at Dishoom is eclectic. I loved the dim lighting, unique decor, and the lively pace of the restaurant. Just go!

The waiters were nice but the food was not the best. I got a scrambled egg on toast with smoked salmon & the salmon had a fishy smell to it, was flavorless and there was barely any hot sauce available. My friend also thought her burger was just okay as well with the biggest positive point being the bacon. That being said, the fried dough balls dipped in chocolate were really great and so were the holiday specials for alcoholic drinks. While the inside was spacious and retro and had a cool vibe, I have to knock down points for the actual food itself and wish that I had kept the memory of how much I enjoyed this place pre Covid as that since I wouldn't make my way out to this restaurant again even if I'm in the area.

The lovely chef/gentleman working behind the counter in 34 degree heat talked me through the options. I went for the Veg Thai green curry with rice and a beef steak (in some delicious sauce and Parmesan). The Thai green curry had unbelievable depth of flavour - actually rivalling many Thai restaurants in my opinion. The beef steak. So flipping soft. HOW!? Simply blown away. I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.
