The movers are nice and friendly and careful. The telephone agents are friendly and try their best to be helpful with a good attitude. That's about all the good things I can say about Clutter. The actual handling/packing by the company is a joke. I transported a vintage flower table from Denmark to New York while I was traveling. The flower table literally made it overseas without any damage and was in perfect condition when it was picked up to be stored. The next time I saw my table was this morning----all three table legs were broken, the top of the table had been broken off, and as the table was being unwrapped, small shreds of wood were flying everywhere. That's not all. I also stored an ornate mirror with them and the frame was broken with a missing piece on one side and was cracked on the opposite side. I saw the movers from the truck up to the apartment and they were very careful the whole time so I know they didn't destroy my items. This damage doesn't come from accidents when handling items properly, this damage can only come from complete negligence. To add insult to injury, I filed a claim and they want to pay me $50 for destroyed items that cost $1k+. The nerve they have to offer such a terrible service and charge over 2x the amount of money as their competitors...I never would've stored with them had I not been with Makespace since many years ago before Clutter took over. I was abroad when Makespace changed to Clutter so I had no choice and had to continue paying 2x the price as when I first signed up for a storage plan. Then I came back to 2-3x the price to simply retrieve my items. Ridiculous. Ultimately, had everything come back to me in perfect shape, I would've gotten over it. But to be paying a premium price for a much lesser service? I'm shocked they're still in business. I had been with Makespace for many years and had added and retrieved items multiple times and nothing had ever been damaged. Funny how it's only been about a year since Clutter took over and both my furniture pieces were damaged and even pieces in my plastic containers were broken. You only store things you care about and want to get back, so assuming you care about the stuff you're putting in storage, I would 100% tell you NOT to store with Clutter. I only had a 7.5x10 storage place with 2 pieces of furniture which they neglected to deliver to me even though that was part of the agreement. Now, to top it all off both, of my glass items, a very expensive table and a mirror my best friend who is deceased gifted me, are SHATTERED. They were only packed with thin bubble wrap and cardboard. The answer given me from Clutter was WRONG!!!!! This was not an issue with my moving company not being able to move the 13 missing items THIS WAS BECAUSE CLUTTER LOST THE ITEMS WHEN THE DELIVERY WAS SCHEDULED. (Which was Armstrong / United Van Lines and they were perfect) In addition to not be able to locate 13 of my items when I closed my account the company has completely lost two of those items. They pay you $50 per lost item even if the value is much higher. (Yes, you do agree to this when you sign up, but you also trust they are not just going to flat out lose you items.) YOUR ITEMS ARE NOT SAFE & THEIR POLICY STATES THEY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ITEMS INSIDE STORAGE BOXES. My jewelry disappeared while my items were in storage between June 2020 and November 2021. I found the box where I stored my jewelry in two separate pieces, one at the bottom of a bag, another in another storage box, and only 1 loose earring left at the bottom of the bag. I filed a claim and their security team said they were opening an internal investigation and asked me to collect the receipts for the jewelry. I told Clutter I would need a some time to ask my relatives for receipts & contact the shops. Clutter closed my claim a few days later, BEFORE I sent the receipts over to them. They told me jewelry is excluded from refunds, that they are not liable for the contents inside the storage boxes. I sent them pictures from when I received my boxes, where the tape on some boxes seems to have been tampered with (SEE PICTURE). They said this was not enough to reopen the claim and insisted they weren't liable. In total, I spent $1,413 for storage with them. Also, important to mention: monthly price goes UP after a few months of storage. If you do choose to store with them, make sure they take pictures of the INSIDES of your boxes that clearly show ALL the items. Make sure to seal your boxes carefully with A LOT of tape (on mine they just put a tiny piece of loose tape.) Do not store any valuable items with them. I only stored jewelry because of a family issue where I had to leave the country and could not return for a year and a half because of covid-19. They were supposed to have everything yesterday and are now being told it won't be until 9/14. When you try to call, the number gets sent overseas to home reps (I can hear dogs barking on the phone) who have zero ability to work with you to rectify the situation. I have asked multiple times for the call to be escalated and have been promised a return call by a supervisor...but they never call back. They told me I could come to their warehouse to pick up the stuff, but then changed the date on me for that too. At this point, I'm afraid we're not going to get the stuff back. I highly recommend my movers -- Jason and Eli. They made my move pleasant, efficient and even fun. Not a word of complaint about carrying stuff up 2 flights of New York walk up stairs. They even cracked a couple of jokes -- great experience and I would love to hire them again. Clutter as a business, on the other hand, is a rip off. They con you by quoting low prices then, when they have your stuff in storage, they raise the monthly fees for no reason. Once they claimed I "needed more storage space" but, miraculously, when I complained to a supervisor, they decided I didn't need the extra storage space after all. Two months later, they "raised their fees." When I threatened to move my stuff out, they miraculously figured out how to consolidate everything so I wouldn't be charged more. It's a con -- when I really needed my stuff out of storage, they offered to keep storing it for half price. They hold your stuff hostage and raise their prices as much as you let them get away with. Not only do I feel as if they don't care about their customers, I think they deliberately set out to rip people off. One other thing: I stored a vintage Paul McCobb dresser with Clutter and, during the move with other movers (not Jason and Eli) one leg and three wooden knobs were cracked off the piece. I tried to file a claim and Clutter gave me a complete run around -- they refused to accept that damage done to a collectible piece of designer Mid-Century Modern furniture is financially more significant than the same damage would be to a contemporary dresser from IKEA. Even with my original purchase receipt and estimates from reputable MCM furniture dealers and repair shops, they refused to give me more than $59.00, the amount they claimed it would take me to glue the leg back on with Gorilla Glue. And I, too, had purchased extra insurance specifically because I knew the value of that particular piece. Love the workers -- hooray for Jason and Eli!! I need access to my items and I'm willing to rent a car and do pick it up in New Jersey 40 miles away from me. Had a very bad expirience. It took double the time planned which caused issues at the new location. Finally, the broke some of my items. One of the things that they broke, they realized they broke on the spot and took some pictures and said they would file a claim. There was no claim filed Clutter than wait for the customer to file the claim even though they knew they did something wrong they don't wanna pay for it, the things of mine that they broke $87 water filter that they decided to reimburse me $12 for. Initially, I signed up with Makespace to hold my things in their storage which was bought over by clutter and that came with a huge monthly price increase without giving me a heads up or a chance to retrieve my things before the switchover. I finally had my belongings delivered back to me just to find out their employees robbed my boxes and bins. I have documented proof that I had 30 items in storage and was only delivered 27. A huge marble coffee table went missing, along with my professional camera, my designer bags and endless broken items. The company's "customer service" which is based in India is comprised of people who absolutely have no authority to help you and just try to get you off the phone. I was denied all my claims and now I am out over 15k worth of valuables. Their movers nonchalantly said that "the company probably lost my things during the switchover". Nightmare. When Clutter picked up our mostly packed belongings and furniture in June of 2020, the two movers they sent did not complete the job. One was on his phone the entire time. It was only after threatening the company on social media that they came back two days later to finish. Flash forward one year later: we finally took our belongings out of storage only to discover that Clutter lost our $4000 Stark rug, broke the corner off of $600 heavy glass tabletop, chipped the wood of both an antique settee and dining chair, broke numerous plates and glasses, including a Chinese vase, lost another side table glass top, and we're still finding missing or broken items. As we began to unpack our belongings, we soon discovered even more items missing, including an entire wardrobe box containing at least six expensive designer suits (Canali, Zegna, Armani)​, sports jackets, a Burberry raincoat, a cashmere overcoat, and many pairs of corduroy pants, and that's just what we've identified so far (now that the weather in New York is getting cooler). Fortunately, we took insurance. Or so we thought. Clutter's policy, with loads of fine print, limits the damage payout to $1000. Our losses far exceeded that. After that, it's $1 per pound. How does one begin to calculate the destruction of two antique furniture pieces or loss of my entire wardrobe of expensive suits, coats, and sports jackets...by the pound? To say we are disappointed would be an understatement. My advice: if you own anything of any value, I.e., you're well out of college, steer clear of this moving/storage service. I used them to pick up and store a few items that didn't fit in my apartment. The online AI inventory list stank, as did the weird pre-move paperwork which failed to indicate the first three labor hours as FREE, causing panic and fear of signing. BUT they showed up on time, the ultimate price was as expected, and the monthly storage fee is relatively low. Don't use if you need frequent or quick access to your items. I was storing long term so it worked for me. Will review again once my items come out of storage. The movers Ray and Stuart were clean, polite, and professional. They finished up packing items I didn't have the right packing materials for. I had everything ready when they arrived and it took under 1-hour to move a 5' x 10' unit's worth of stuff. After reading bad reviews online I was a bit concerned, but it seems like they've really got their act together over the last few months. The value of service for price was excellent - both sets of movers (pick up and drop off) were excellent and executed the full job within 3 hours, and did all the work themselves taking extra care. All my items were returned to me and nothing was lost. Two items did get damaged, however Clutter quickly refunded me the value of these which was great. I'm not blind to the notion that damage is a likely risk with moves, but the customer service was very good and I'm glad Clutter were able to refund and act on claims. My advice would be to use the service if you want to move general furniture which may get damaged (with a refund available), 100% get the insurance. For more valuable and sentimental pieces, I would suggest that you can avoid damaging furniture by fully dismantling it beforehand. read more

The movers were quick, careful and courteous. They did a small amount of packing, worked with my son to ensure they were gathering the right items and were in and out in about 90 minutes. Only hiccup each time is pickup team initially wants you ready for "curbside" pickup while customer service/dispatch says as long as you have the items all together and ready to go in one location - like an apartment doorway - that's same as curbside pickup. But each time after talking quickly to team on phone as they arrived they happily came upstairs and got the items. The glass table top was never returned. They lost it. Bookcases that are part of a larger unit were badly damaged and the glass shelves were in pieces. The 5 ft authentic African mask was smashed beyond repair and the company accepts no responsibility although it was packed by their team. Badly damaged dresser and floor mirror. Huge scratches on both. Boxes of dishes and glassware smashed as though someone threw the boxes from a great height. Almost everything we entrusted them with was destroyed and it was resolved for a fraction of the cost to replace. (Their "Gold Plan" insurance is garbage) If you value the personal property you are moving and/or storing, don't make the mistake we did. Look for a reputable moving and storage company. DO NOT USE CLUTTER FOR YOUR MOVE!!!!! I really really hope you pick someone else for your moving needs!!! We did the full service package, highest one you can do for an out of state move.. and let me just preface this by saying we've moved over 12x in the last 9 years... and never have we experienced what we experienced with this company! And I never write reviews!!! It was that terrible that I'm sitting here writing this... First, we upload all the necessary photos and videos, account for all the items we have etc. fully prepared. I call in 3x before the move to ensure we would only need 1 truck and 3 movers because for a 6 bedroom house that sounded odd to me. Especially because we were having them pack and move it. But time and time again they said that's all they would need and it would be done in 1 day. But again, I kept asking to confirm because as I mentioned, we were moving out of state and had to leave by the end of the day. Again, they reassured me it would be done. Day of the move (day 1 haha) the workers show up late. At 8am. Tell me they're going to "try to get it done".... "Try".... After I already made it clear it needed to be done in 1 day. So they work for 3 hours. Then take a two hour lunch. Of which they logged an hour after it started. Saying they were only gone for an hour. When they come back 3 other guys come to help and then by 2pm they say they all have to leave. State law..... I'm not even kidding...... 2pm. 2pm. We were shocked! Absolutely shocked. And btw I was helping them pack all day. Even though we paid an arm and a leg for them to do that service. So I end up having to stay and call out of work the next day, to help pack again. And then they tell me they're charging us for another day of labor . When they stopped working at 2. And again took an hour and 45 minute lunch again. But the dispatcher said their lunch time didn't matter that day because "they would get the job done for sure". So why didn't they get the job done the first day??? How are they all the sudden allowed to go over timing now???? Then! They tell me they're going to need a 3rd truck!!!! And it would be an additional $3k on top of $16,000!!!!!! For a move that was 3 hours driving distance!!!!! But the best part.... All my stuff fit in 2 trucks..... and they told me they would need a 3rd to cross state lines.. even though it was completely empty!!!! Not one shoelace even in there!!!! I had to call clutter over 8 times !!!!! This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had in my entire life!!!! And guess what?! When they arrived, no 3rd truck!!!!! So I took videos and photos and CALLED AGAIN and they said they'd take off the charge for the 3rd truck! WHAT?!?!?! Why were you charging us for a 3rd truck?!?!! Not to mention they broke multiple things of ours! This was an indescribable experience.... I truly cannot even begin to understand how this company still operates. So of course I call to explain this entire experience hoping I would be compensated for this horrific experience. Nope. Some idiot lady spends 3+ weeks "reviewing my file" which was pages upon pages by the end of it and she just emailed me on Tuesday to say they will compensate me $300 for the workers taking a longer lunch!! Hahahahaha! What?!?!? And that she refunded my $3k for the 3rd truck... LADY, that's not doing me a favor! We didn't use the 3rd truck!!!! You owe me that money!!! So we ended up paying over $16,000 on this move!!!!! And got $300 for the lunch violation. LOL!!!!! This has got to be the biggest joke of my entire life.
