I would never recommend this moving company. Communication was terrible from start to finish. We were given a delivery date of 8/15/25, but out of nowhere, I got a call on 8/9 saying they'd deliver on 8/10--well before I even had the keys to my new place. I had to make multiple calls and speak with several different people just to sort it out. The rep I booked with, Mario, was attentive before taking my deposit, but after that, he became nearly impossible to reach and eventually started avoiding my calls when problems came up. On delivery day, David told me the movers would arrive between 1-4 pm. No updates came when they didn't show. I had to chase them down, only to be told last minute that the new window was 6-7:30 pm. They didn't arrive until 8:30 pm, leaving my father-in-law waiting around all day. To make matters worse, the price suddenly jumped from the original $750 balance to $1,030 with no explanation and no updated contract provided. We were originally quoted $1,500 total, had already paid $750 upfront, and were blindsided with new charges the day of delivery. When I refused to pay, the staff was dismissive and unhelpful. As if that wasn't enough, my flatscreen TV arrived broken. The company has taken no responsibility and offered no refund or compensation. Somehow, I still ended up paying like three times what I paid (including paying 3x for my local delivery from storage, despite them knowing exactly how much stuff I had because they moved it). This is by far the worst moving company I've ever dealt with, and I'll never use them again. I'll also make sure to warn everyone I know to stay away. They caused nearly $10,000 in damage to my furniture and insultingly offered just a few hundred dollars in compensation. It seems this is a common tactic for them--pressuring clients into signing a misleading insurance policy and then refusing to take responsibility for the damage they cause. I'll start by saying that the list of things I planned to move ended up growing after my quote so I knew that the $750 quote for 4 hours would end of being slightly inaccurate. There was a blizzard the day before and the day I was supposed to move so Imperial called me to confirm they would be there. I told them I would have a few extra items like a love seat I wanted to bring, they said it didn't matter cause I'm paying hourly. Then they proceed to tell me that because of snow my move will probably take an extra few hours and I would have to pay for that. I have to pay because you choose to operate in a snow storm? My being responsible for mother nature was the first red flag. But what was I to do? Most NYC move-out dates aren't exactly flexible. I paid for 3 movers and really only saw 2 doing any moving while 1 stayed in the truck. In fact, a few hours in I finally went out to the truck and saw him-- he hadn't yet stepped foot in my apartment. They had a legal parking spot directly in front of my building so not sure why I was paying for a mover not to move anything. Keeping guard over my stuff on my small West Village block? I also walked every one of the 35 gorilla bins I had rented and put outside the apartment door to make it easier on the 2 movers. The lead mover probably brought up giving a good tip at least 6 times. Uncomfortable and unprofessional but times are tough so I just kept letting it roll off my back. My contract says that basic assembly/disassembly are included. Well cabinet doors were screwed on inside out or not at all, saying they couldn't finish or they'd have to charge me more as it's not included. No where in my contract did it say that large bags weren't able to be moved so then I'm told they all have to be shoved into boxes-- that will cost me between $37-$60 for a freaking cardboard box. Nothing was fragile, forcing me to use these boxes was ridiculous. At the end of the day, my total bill was $1000 OVER my quote. I was so exhausted and over it that I paid it just so I could sit alone on my couch and cry. Gave a cash tip which was very generous based on my original quote but wasn't good enough and I was pressured to wire him more money. Not satisfied with these movers. you get an estimate and at the end they always ask you for more money, like tolls or packing that they didn't do. I had to negotiate at the destination. I had done all the packing. Then, i had packed most of the frames, except 4 with glasses that I wanted them to pack and it was on the estimate (they were supposed to pack 12 of them) When they arrived at destination , (Long Island from NYC) everything looked ok, but the morning after when i hung one of the glass framed picture, I found out that the glass had been broken, and carefully taken out. I was lucky that the lithograph was untouched, but the dishonesty of the movers , removing every bit of the glass....i can't believe it. I called customer service , they indeed offered for the replacement of the glass, but it doesn't cover the fact that the framer has to reopen the frame, put the glass, and put the frame back. So ..$200 against $70 refund! I called the movers they looked like they didn't remember that they broke the glass of a 40 x 30 inches frame, very heavy. So I was in a pickle, and I needed to move fast. Although I did not have much to move... about a room's worth of belongings, I did not want to deal with the move alone. Enter this company. Imperial was recommended to me by my broker, who helped me find a decent apartment close to school. The price they quoted me was reasonable, and the time frame in which I was able to hire them was great. I needed to move within 24 hours, and I was able to schedule them on short notice. I got three guys helping me move. They brought a large truck, which was more than enough for all my stuff. They brought several boxes with them, and packed all my belongings efficiently. The entire move took less than two hours, and I had to do afterward was unpack and organize my stuff. These guys are great, they worked hard, and were friendly people. I had my items collected on Sept 17th in NYC, 10 items to be delivered to FL - with a delivery window of 4-14 business days. 16 business days later I received 6 of my items, and was told 4 items were still in the NYC warehouse by mistake". 24 business days later, and I still do not have a date of when my items will be delivered. I have moved with movers 5 times now (several transatlantic for work), and while Imperial has great communication they have some execution and and followup issues that leave a little to be desired. The communication leading up to the move was great and the estimate was very accurate, the problem started day of. They were supposed to get to me between 3-4pm but arrived around 5:30 to begin. Nobody called me to inform me they would be late and their office (while online they say it is open until 5pm, nobody was answering the phone at 4pm). A move is stressful enough without a company lacking in the communication department. When they got there they were quick and efficient moving things out and getting it on the truck. Once they were done they packed up and left quickly. It was dark and late (about 10pm) so I wasn't able to assess until the day after. In their rush they damaged the floors, a wall, and my bed frame. No representative reached out to me and my calls were not returned. It took posting a review online to hear back from CS. He is a nice enough guy and did his best to rectify the situation. STAY AWAY!! This was the worst experience of my life. We had 3 stops. The salesman completely underestimated our cubic feet to get the job. There is nothing you can do they can charge you anything at the end and hold your stuff hostage. This was a big job and they were unprepared and sent a too small truck. The guys were tired, rushing and overworked. The customer service agent was like talking to brick wall and would not listen to me. We had to drive back 2 hrs to the city and move again the second day. They threatened to stop on the highway with our stuff until we payed for the the second trip. They will hold your items hostage. They will not release your things until you pay whatever they ask. They are like mobsters. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE. On top of holding our stuff hostage and at the end of a very long and stressful day, they only take square credit card payment - we moved to the country with no reception so my husband had to drive the guy into town to get reception to pay the bill. Mind numbing. Unpacking I'm finding broken dishes! And dented dressers. I want these people to go out of business. I'm still angry. Worst experience ever-- avoid this company at all costs. I had used Imperial when I lived in NYC for two moves within the city, which went ok. As a third-time repeat customer moving across the country, I was assured by the sales manager Mario that I was a "VIP" client and so I expected decent service. This was absolutely not the case and is why I am writing this extremely detailed review a month later, because I'm still shocked by this company's complete lack of care and transparency. Mario told me that while my estimate said the move could take anywhere from 4-18 business days, there was "no way" it would take the full amount of time, and that the longer end of the estimate was usually for worst case scenarios, such as when drivers are driving across country in the middle of the winter and face severe weather conditions; moving in the middle of the summer should have been fairly simple. From Mario's reassurance and confidence, I expected the movers to arrive in maybe a week, or two, and confirmed I would use them for my move. After one week after my stuff had been taken by Imperial, I called them about when to expect delivery and they said it was looking like next week; the next week I called, and they told me it was looking like the next week again. I called again the following week, and was told that Savva (the manager for my move) was going to call me back in 5 minutes; instead, I received a short email from him maybe an hour later. Every time I called to speak to Savva, I was told that he would call me back and then I would only receive a short email from him that didn't really answer any of my questions; sometimes I wouldn't even hear back and would call/email again. Around 4 weeks after pickup, I came to find out that my stuff was still in storage in NYC but was finally heading my way. The move in total took 23 business days, or longer than an entire month; my stuff was picked up on 6/27 and I received it on 7/29. Re: the pick-up day- the movers were cordial. It was a hot summer day and I bought them Joe's Pizza and some sodas, gave them Gatorade and water throughout the day. I usually think if you treat people well, they will treat you well back, but this was not the case. At the end of the day, the movers pressured me into giving them a 20% tip, which for a four-figure move is a lot of money. It was my mistake handing this over upfront, but I expected the tip would ensure goodwill and at least decent service on their end. Nope. My belongings then were delivered by a carrier and not Imperial. While I was unpacking, I saw Imperial had packed two fragile lamps extremely carelessly and that both lampshades were torn and damaged. I had actually mentioned these lamps over FaceTime when I did the inventory consultation with Marco, as they had belonged to my late grandparents and were both personally and monetarily valuable, so the fact that the movers just threw them both in a box, right on top of metal hardware, was very irritating to say the least. After I finished unpacking, I emailed Jaden on their customer service team about how disappointed I was, and how the move took longer than the estimate, and pictures of how my things were damaged. Jaden told me I would be sent two checks, one $125 check for the damages, and another to refund a $225 carrier fee which was sprung upon me on the day of delivery. Jaden also said, "In regards to inconveniences of the delivery range, we'll also take that into consideration once we review everything." We had first emailed about these checks on 8/5, so I'm not sure why as of today, 9/7, I haven't seen the one that Jaden told me had gone out on 8/5, and am not getting clear responses on the second check or amount for going beyond the delivery range. At this point, I'm honestly suspecting that I will never see either check. Moving across the country is already extremely stressful, and Imperial made the entire experience exponentially worse. Their lack of response essentially ruined half of my summer; without giving any clear answer as to when I was supposed to receive my things, I was tied to living in my empty apartment for an entire month. Living out of my suitcase with one dish, a cup, and a fork, I felt like I had entirely lost my mind, but wasn't going to go buy things since my stuff was coming. After two weeks of not getting any clear information from Imperial, I wished I had just sold all of my things in NYC and started anew in LA. That would have been far less stressful and a lot better for my mental health for the whole month of July. I actually wondered if I would even see my stuff again. Absolutely disappointing and appalling service. Spare yourself the migraines and hire someone else or sell your things before you ever consider using Imperial. TL;DR-- dishonest, took over a month, avoidant, careless, highway robbery. Don't use them. read more

Is zero stars an option? Worst moving service I have ever used in my life and I have moved in NYC multiple times. They never got the proper documents OR COI in place so we had to do half the move ourselves. Not to mention we got charged an extra hour for us moving the stuff for the team while they sat in the van and rang the office to help them find a solution. Problems happen but be WARNED we where over charged and wanted to speak to someone in the office during the week. Should you want to challenge a charge - you are required to pay in full then ask for a refund. When you say no your stuff goes back on the truck and is threatened to be removed and disposed of unless you pay. No manager or customer service to speak with, just a man screaming on the phone in Russian threatening us, occasionally a Russian in track suits would appear like a handler and loiter around the truck but would walk off if you tried to engage him. They do not ship the following unless you pay and extra charge; plants, pictures, wine, light fixtures. Boxes start at $35. Obviously you never see a dollar again and after a while your calls and email go unanswered. DO NOT USE !!!! I hired Imperial movers to pack up my apartment on March 24th and put everything in storage. I could not be there to supervise it because of Covid-19 (I was out of town and could not get to NY). After the move was competed, my super called to say that they left quite a few things in kitchen and the bathroom so they had to send another mover to complete the job. On May 25th I finally could get up to NY and get the stuff from storage in my new apartment. It was a mess (see pictures below). But more importantly after the movers left, I discovered that my MacBook Air was missing or stolen and still is as of today. I filed a complaint with NYPD and I am trying to put a stop payment on my Visa card. Note that a few other items of no value were missing/broken but did not make a fuss about those. read more

We have moved 9 times and this was the worst experience we ever had. The experience booking the move was fine. They came for the in person estimate and gave us a figure below 2 other estimates so we hired them. They came on time and packed us relatively quickly. We made the mistake of not watching! Most of our furniture went to storage for 7 months. We booked the delivery easily but much to our surprise, the cost went up significantly as they said we had more than they had estimated. Again the arrived on time. All was going well until they started unpacking. We then discovered that because of their poor packing, almost everything we owned was broken or damaged! Additionally, a large carton of designer shoes and bags mysteriously disappeared (wonder who owns these items now). I experienced an amazing Imperial Moving & Storage. They moved me out of a 5th floor walkup with ease. I have moved out of 7 apartments and this one was by far the best. We planned the move to be 4.5 hours but completed it much quicker. One of many great things, the workers disassembled my Ikea wardrobe piece to wrap it properly then put it back together when we arrived to the new location. They were respectful, quick, and efficient. Overall it was a seamless move & I'd highly recommend them to anyone. read more

These people changed my 12:30pm moving time at the last minute to 9am less than 24 hours before my move. After I called management to advocate for a reduction due to the inconvenience, I was met with an insulting $25 reduction. Not to mention, the total cost of the move exceeded the quote by $400 even though I included all items. I was also swindled by one of the movers: he made me pay $80 separately to remove/install my A.C. whilst including that time in the hourly rate-he didn't even install it correctly. Horrible experience. I called Russel (the imperial account manager/salesman) and he talked a big game and gave me a quote that he said was the top of the line I will be paying. After all was moved and done I ended up paying 40% more. This is for a 1 bedroom apartment, where I had plastic bins all packed, and the new place was less that 10 minute drive. The movers took their sweet time loading the truck. I know this, as I used to work as a mover, and I know that loading plastic bins into the truck should not take 50 mins per batch, for them however it took exactly this much. Every time that would load stuff and bring it down to the truck, the 3 of them would not be back up for 40 - 50 minutes. Again, I know how long this takes, and this was just them dragging the time out. Russel basically lied to me, He asked me about every furniture piece, and how many boxes I had, which I did tell him, there was an extra 5 plastic bins than I originally said, but everything else was exactly as I said to him over the phone. This was also confirmed by the movers when they showed up, as they had everything written down. The estimate ceiling he gave me was 5 hours, by the end of it all they took 7.5 hours. Just the 10 minute drive took them close to an hour. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but this was honestly a really bad experience. Based on other reviews I see here Imperial may be good at local New York moves, but I would not use them again for a long distance move such as mine (Chicago-New York). They did not stick to timelines, continuously promised to call me back and failed to do it and they outsourced the move on both ends. Here are some more details · Pickup: Pickup was pushed off the day before my pickup day (even though I had a paid my deposit) and I was only alerted when I called to confirm what time they would arrive the next day. That's right, Imperial never told me they could not make my confirmed pickup day. I had called them to confirm on a Wednesday for a Thursday pickup and they told me they could get me in on Monday. This leaves me to believe that if I had not called, I would have just been waiting Thursday for the pickup that never arrived. I was lucky my lease was not over that day or I would have been in a terrible spot. No concessions were granted for the inconvenience and delay. The lack of communication was a problem throughout, including when it came to pricing · Price: I had a quote for my move in which I sent pictures of everything and asked specific questions. However, on the day of the move I was told my quoted price was different than what my email said. Turns out that either they never sent me an updated quote, or this was a tactic used. No email was able to be provided for the new quote price. Additionally, the subcontractors charged me for things I was specifically told in writing by imperial I would not be charged for. These charges imperial eventually took off my bill after some discussion ( so I don't fault them for that except shows lack of communication between the two companies) · Delivery: Delivery was not the speed I was originally told by the sales team. Fine, I can live with that since its still within the contract window. However, they moved my delivery time and date TWICE AFTER IF WAS CONFIRMED. I was called on Sunday night at 7pm to accept delivery on Monday morning. I did not know if my building would agree with so little notice, so we agreed to Tuesday Morning. On Tuesday morning 10 minutes before the delivery time I was called and told they would not make the morning slot but would be there in the afternoon. Then in the afternoon I was called an hour before the end of their delivery slot and was told they will not be there, and would come Wednesday morning. That was just another full day of mine wasted, taken off from work to sit in an empty apartment. For the price of the extra time I took off from work and discomfort, would have paid for some better service. My husband and I have nothing but good things to say about our recent move with Imperial. The company was recommended to us by our former broker, so we took her at her word, and were glad we did. They were prompt, extremely efficient, and made what could have been a very stressful ordeal...surprisingly easy. I already sent in all of these complaints to the company, who said their customer service rep would get back to me. That was two months ago. --The men broke a very large vase, which is understandable as it was a bit hidden from view. But then they just left it there and didn't bother cleaning it up. --The "assembly" of the bed was barely put together; the headboard was left completely detached, the screws weren't put in, and the ones that were, were not even put in all the way. --Charged different hours than what they actually had performed --One of the main things which was incredibly frustrating was the number of men. I was quoted the price for three men. There were three to start with, which was actually the easier part and could've been completed with two. But the move into the apartment was only two men, when three were really needed, so it took much longer than it should have. At first they tried to charge me for the extra hours and then when I brought it up, they brought it to the original quote. I've used Imperial for multiple moves now within Manhattan and I won't use anyone else. A short story about the team: I had an emergency leak in my apartment where we had to move to another unit within the building to rectify the situation. I called Imperial since I was already familiar with them. They sent a crew the same day to assess the complexity of the move (pack up) and to drop off boxes so we can pre-pack some of the essentials. They were there with a 3-man crew 9am the next day. Extremely fast, diligent and precise on each item of furniture moving to the other unit. They unpacked all we needed for a week stay to ensure we were comfortable. Fast forward to our move back to our apartment where the same crew came and reassembled all of our furniture and put each item back in its respective place. Great experience! I was scheduled for a move that would start between 3-4pm and guess what? The movers, Georgie and Alfredo showed up at 3pm ON THE DOT, so super appreciate the punctuality. I was nervous because I had packed some last minute stuff that I thought would take up more time and space but they were super cool about it, put it in one whole big box for me and we didn't even go over the time limit! I've used imperial twice within the past year to move out of NYC to nj and then back again 8 months later. Both times they showed up ontime, moved quickly and didn't damage a thing. They were very organized and nice and even helped assemble some of my furniture back together after having to disassemble on the previous move. Additionally they have great customer service and were very attentive to my needs and even booked one of my moves within 72 hours of needing to move. My husband and I got a recommendation to use Imperial from a friend. We really didn't know what we were getting because both of us have never used movers in NYC before. But this time we were moving with a lot more stuff (especially kitchen) that we accumulated over the last few years and from a one bedroom to a two. They gave us a fair quote and anything we needed to add or change they quickly did and emailed back the updated contract. They arrived early, and my building didn't let movers in until 9, so they walked in on the dot. We were moving from flatiron (not an easy place to park) to the upper east side off 3rd avenue. We are super organized, so in advance of moving we had all boxes packed and organized except the kitchen. They packed the kitchen in 2 hours, which would have taken us at least 6, because we have so much. Not one thing broke! They were super organized with one person clearly leading the team of 4 to make sure everyone had a "role." This made the process smooth as everyone was efficient. They all helped each other out too when someone needed and extra hand. By 11am, they had moved everything out. They helped us move all out hanging things and made boxes for us so we could easily move it. By 1130 the truck was secure and they left to meet us at our new building. By 12 they had a parking spot and immediately starting bringing everything up. As they walked into our new apartment they read the label on the box out loud so we could quickly tell them where we wanted it. Everything was brought up and moved in by 145. Things to make sure are done before that we did for an easy move: make sure insurance and building rules are followed, label everything no matter what is in the box. Star thing or unique identify boxes you know you want to unpack and have first. All these things helped us move and made the movers work even easier and more efficient. This is my second time using Imperial Moving & Storage and I would use them again. They are true to the quote (as long as you are entirely honest about what you are bringing - I see a few reviews where they seem surprised by "hidden fees" - and something tells me the reviewer failed to mention a few things and then were surprised when the moving company would charge them for extra work... - that's like showing up to a restaurant, expecting to pay for just a main dish, then surprised when the bill comes and you were charged for the four drinks you ordered). The guys are courteous and quick. They handled all my items with extreme care. Here's the only downside - be sure to mark your boxes on where you want them to go. I moved into a duplex and was really clear about where things went, and was surprised when the boxes marked up and downstairs, were switched around. Additionally, they dis-assembled a table, moved it, and didn't put it back together (so, yeah... that). Other than that, which I consider minor things compared to horror stories I have heard, these guys are great and without reservation, would recommend them again. read more

They were highly recommended by my realtor & more $ than the competition, not only did they break/damage many items, they must have taken other items. I tried contacting the company to complain & they were unresponsive to phone calls and told me I had to email. When I emailed no one responded for days and then didn't offer to replace & repair missing & damaged items. Basically told me I was lying about the items that never made it on the truck. For what reason?! I was forced to file a dispute with Visa, since they were MIA. Also did I mention, it took them 6 hours to just LOAD (not pack) a 1.5 bedroom apartment! Needless to say, I moved out of state & would never recommend them. Don't use them, I didn't like another mover I used in NYC but at least they did the same job in 3 hrs & didn't break or steal anything. read more
