Okay. So let's get the ISSUE at hand out of the way first. The customer service here is SUBPAR. Upon entry, the trash cans were filled ALLLLL the way to the top. Sorta some indicator that the trash hadn't been changed in hours. That immediately made me feel like they hadn't even swept the floors or wiped down the tables. I ordered the 2 piece chicken strips, waffles, coleslaw and strawberry shake. I remember from previous reviews that this spot takes a long time to get your food, so I decided to start a timer. Took me approx 14 minutes for my order to be completed. The cashier was not helpful at all, she never made eye contact with me. She was SO busy watching another customer in the parking lot checking that their food was correct, and was anticipating them to come back in to complain about it. When the customer came in as expected, the cashier decided to interrupt MY order to tell a coworker why the customer from the parking lot was coming back in. Anywho, during my 14 minute wait, I noticed 3 coworkers sitting in the lobby and all I kept saying to myself was "so no one see this piled up trash, nor is anyone gonna change it?" Such a sucky experience of service. Now on to the food: it was EXCEPTIONAL! The chicken was bomb. The waffles were crispy. The shake was delightful and the slaw was just okay to me. Wow this place is amazing. I am super impressed with the flavor of the chicken and the heat. I'm an avid spicy chicken lover and this really has my head spinning with delight. Unprofessional customer service. Save your time and money. Go somewhere else. Ordered food and 10 min later the power went out (I get it, it happens). How the employees reacted disgusted me. They were all yelling out of excitement because they thought they would be going home. Not even aware of customers around them. 15 minutes go by and we follow up on our order and they didn't even know what we were waiting for. We were frustrated and asked for a refund. Yesterday, I read that Clyde's opened up a new location in Montclair and was excited to give it a try. We stopped there around 6 pm and were pleasantly surprised there wasn't a long line. There were a few people inside eating or waiting for their orders. Upon entering, a young lady greeted us and asked if we had been there before. Since it was our first visit, she went ahead and explained the various menu options and heat levels and asked if we had any questions. My daughter isn't usually a real spice eater but she was determined to test her limits a bit. I, on the other hand, was down to see what they had to offer in terms of spicy heat. Upon a quick glance at the menu board, I thought the 1930 spice level was their spiciest and definitely wanted to try some of that. I asked if I could get a sample of the 1930 to see if that was the level I would want for my chicken, she asked if there was a sample available and was told there would be something to sample in about 2 minutes. So, we went to a table and sat down to wait. Sure enough, a couple of minutes later the hostess brought over a cup with a whole mid-wing with 1930 spice for me to try. I thought, wow, that was so generous. The wing was spicy, but I didn't think it was too much for me. We went back to the counter to put in our orders, the hostess asked me if I liked the 1930 and I told her that I didn't think it was all that spicy, that's when she told me they had a new spice level called the 'Millionaire', that would only be sold to you IF you signed a waiver. I asked what peppers they used for that and she told me they used Trinidad Scorpion peppers. I've never tried that but certainly was aware of it. With that, I signed the waiver and ordered the Clyde's Original combo that included a drink and a side. Since I was going for that Millionaire level, I wanted to upgrade the drink to a Milk Shake just in case those peppers got the better of me. BUT, their shake machine was BROKE!!!!!!!!! That was a bit disappointing and nearly caused me to back off and do the 1930 level instead. But I stuck with it and ordered the Slaw as my side instead of fries. My daughter decided to go with the Clyde's Original combo (Hot as Cluck) with the Mac Salad for her side. When the food was brought to our table, I looked it over and saw the heat level was marked on the wrapper. After a bite, I still wasn't sure, so I took another bite. After that I started to feel some heat and decided it was time to glove up so I wouldn't get any spices on my hands and accidently rub my eyes or something. At this point I removed my glasses so they wouldn't fog up from the heat radiating from my face. After a couple of more bites, my forehead began to really sweat from the heat, it was a good thing I removed my glasses. At this point, I was about 1/2 way done with the sandwich and was pretty sure I could finish it. To combat the heat, I occasionally ate some of the Slaw, that really seemed to help. My daughter and I both continued to work on these beasts and we ended up finishing them off at about the same time. For my sandwich, there was only one large piece of chicken, while my daughter's had 2 chicken strips. Not sure why that was the case, but the chicken was fresh, well cooked, and very tender. Great fried chicken sandwich! Got the original spicy, has a little kick but not too spicy. They give you a pretty large piece of chicken, and the skin is very crispy! The coleslaw on the sandwich is sweet and creamy which goes great with the spice. They give you a side of sauce, not really sure what's in it, but put it on your sandwich, it completes it. The fries were also However, the toast is horrible, Idk if it was just old bread but it taste horrible and it was as hard as a rock. When I tried bitting into it, it was hard to chew as if it was stale. The sauce they have is similar to canes but like bland version of it. This place is like every trendy hot chicken joint but with their own flare. I tried the Clyde's original (mild)chicken strips with fries and side of waffles. The chicken to me taste burnt and the seasoning that they put on top of the chicken reminds of a Tajin seasoning mixture. The waffles are amazing and pretty thick too. I suggest to ask for more butter. The dipping sauce taste similar to Raising Cane sauce but less flavorful and more diluted if that make sense. The restaurant is nice and clean. The staff were helpful..This place isn't horrible but I've had better Nashville hot chicken type places. read more

When this spot first opened up my wife and I were excited to have a hot chicken spot so close to our home. The first couple weeks this place was great, we couldn't get enough of it and came multiple times a week. It has now disappointed us 4 times in a row. 1st time: drive through left out half our order and I had to drive back for it. 2ed time: mild case of food poisoning for my wife and myself. 3rd time: ordered the SPICIEST flavor available for ourselves and mother in law who LOVES super spicy stuff. It barely had any spice at all and was disappointing to all of us. 4th time: Today we dropped in for lunch on a whim. Chicken was NOT spicy again, and it seems like they are getting super cheap with their portions of chicken because id say 70% of the sandwich was fried batter and 30% actual chicken. Ordered a side of waffles, which they said would take a little while to make (understandable) but when they came out they resembled round Eggo waffles, not the ones displayed on their menu, and they tasted like they had been frozen before. I'm willing to bet good money they were frozen.  Fries were soggy too but that was the least disappointing thing of the entire meal. We raved about this place to friends and family at first, now i cant in good conscience recommend it to anyone anymore. What a shame. read more

We decided to try this place after passing by a few times. I was pleasantly surprised by how close it was to our house! We've gone a few times and are always satisfied. We ordered Clyde's original sandwich in Hot as Cluck, the chicken tenders in Clyde's Original, waffles, and we've tried both the chocolate and strawberry milkshakes. The chicken is always very juicy and large. The spice really kicks but it's not overwhelming in the spice levels we got. The waffles are pretty basic but make for a really good, sweet contrast to the chicken. Occasionally the waffles are pretty dense but for the most part, they're fluffy and delicious. The milkshakes are also very good - it appears they're made with vanilla ice cream and the respective flavored syrups. I preferred the chocolate one but they both were really rich in flavor and texture. The wait can get pretty long, even if you order ahead. It usually takes about 20 minutes for food to come out after you order. I find it the most efficient to just walk up and order since the drive thru is usually long. Service is a little overwhelming - the cashiers talk very quickly when explaining the spice levels and taking your order but they're definitely friendly. Overall, we'll keep coming back! read more

Again, I may be spoiled by Howlin. Still, I could give it a four if pressed. But then I'm a softy. Problem is that everything *else* is basically store-bought. The pickles, ordinary store-bought. The slaw - KFC class, with some added fennel. The fries - bog standard fries, no seasoning. You could get a bag of them frozen at any market. I have mixed reviews. We ordered regular chicken sandwich, a skinny sandwich, wings, and tenders all drive thru. We really wanted to try a bit of everything to see what we liked. Ratings (1-5) 3.4-Clydes OG Sandwich is as good but the breast are very thin. Good flavor but thin compared to the meat bun ration. 2-Skinny sandwich had a good flavor but they were not able to do the heat level I wanted. Only naked or original. These chicken strips put "raising caine" to shame, plenty of spice and oh so delicious. I ordered the sangwhich (sic), it was tasty, but it seemed like they took 1 chicken strip and flattened it out. I suggest just ordering the strips as they are huge and cooked fresh, so they are tender. I tried the "naked" and "regular" both are tasty, the naked tastes just fine with the right amount of flavor and spice. The "original" is the naked with what seems to be BBQ ruffles potato chip seasoning spread all over, but both combinations are great. The mac salad is very delicious, it's like the Hawaiian BBQ mac salad, only better, because it's less greasy and has more crunchies (sic) which add to the taste and enjoyment. I'm coming here instead of Raising Canes from now on. For a little under $10 you can get a tasty chicken sandwich, fries and drink which for me is stellar. They have 3 different levels of spice and I chose the original flavor and it had no kick whatsoever for me, so take it to the next level if you want some spice otherwise "original" and the level before it have no kick. The fries are actually good and pairs well with the sauce it comes with...so get extra fries, they're good. I'd have to say it's like 2 or 3 levels above chic fil as a comparison lol. I would say they can put a little more meat on the chicken they put on the sandwich but for the price I'd say it reasonable....or did I just get an unlucky piece? solid solid chicken sandos! i was tempted to give it a 4, but currently am fighting the law of comparisons (and i'm comparing it to howlin rays which is the superior chicken sandwich LOL) sides aside, the sandwich is definitely the winner. crisp, hot, flavorful skin with juicy white meat. it's not overly salty and love that it comes with a good bit of cole slaw to cut through the greasiness. with all the popeyes hype, i say yes go try it, but come to clydes if you want a more applaudable experience. disclaimer: i haven't tried any of the super spicy ones so can't speak to whether the spice takes away from the taste, but from other reviews i can see it only enhances it so for you spice loving mother cluckers go for it!!! read more
