I've been going to Dr. Cara Schantz for the past 5 years now and can't say anything but great things. From cleanings, to fillings to now Invisalign, everything has been so smooth with not just her but the front staff and the entire process. As with any doctor office, sometimes there is a wait and other times you're sent right back. Dr. Schantz's team has always given me an estimate for any procedures past a normal cleaning. I've never been surprised by any random insurance billings as some other reviewers have mentioned. Dr G ended up messing up my tooth. He cut way too much and the filling falls out. He needed five shots of novacaine before it hit the right spot. It was an awful and traumatizing experience but dr s is very nice. read more

It was a cavity but she made it ended up being a root canal. That tooth had a pain after the filling for a couple months and I had to go back, she took an X-Ray and the filling was touching my nerve. Her explanation was that my nerve was higher than normal people. I switched dentist after this and my new dentist said the position of my nerve is pretty normal and it should not be the problem. read more

I used to fear the dentist (like most kids) and even as an adult, could never find a dentist that I ENJOYED going to. I've gone to two of the female dentists at CNS and they have both been AWESOME. Everyone is so nice and they have you in and out of there quickly. Perhaps the best part for me, is that they handle all insurance paperwork for you. I've had two other well known Dentists in the DC area that made this process rather difficult and I found myself dreading each checkup due to the massive amount of side work. Dr. Schantz and her staff are incredible. Their commitment to providing excellent services and ensuring patient satisfaction is something I have seen at every interaction. Dr. Schantz is one of the best dentists I've ever worked with. She puts patients at ease, communicates clearly, and shows that she is looking out for the patients best interests. i've been going to this dental practice for almost five years now, so I figured it was time for an updated review. This is still a 5 star practice and it has been wonderful to see the office grow and mature. The front office staff is incredibly friendly and helpful - they even made sure I wasn't drooling when I walked out after a recent procedure :) Both Dr. Schantz and Dr. Ghorab are fantastic dentists - caring, professional, and always make sure to fully explain things. I've been seeing a lot of Priscilla, one of the dental hygenists, lately due to having some work done and she is also very professional and thorough in her explanations. I also really appreciate that they don't do any detailed work until you know exactly what bill (if any) you are facing. The office location is very convenient (right off of Route 1) and there is free parking in the garage at the corner of S Glebe and Rt 1. I highly recommend this practice. read more

This practice is horrible and I'm never going back because of the unpleasant experience caused by the incompetent front desk and office manager. They overcharge, can't handle simple rescheduling of appointments, and worst of all, I think they do not understand how to properly file insurance. In the past I had a filling come out and had Dr. Schantz do the new filling, which went well, so I decided to try a cleaning and exam there. Bad idea. It did not go well for a number of reasons. The staff was confused by a simple question about the X-ray device and their communications became hostile. They used the very invasive exam to find every opportunity for marketing their services. The staff made unsupported assertions about what could happen if I didn't follow their recommendations, and generated a long list of things they thought should be done, with a substantial price tag. I later conferred with another dentist who said many of the recommendations were unnecessary. At no point did they ask what I wanted from the visit. It was all broadcast mode. After 90 minutes of being examined and lectured to, no cleaning had yet started, and I was informed that the cleaning would be $250 instead of the $150 that I had been quoted. At that point I ended the visit. read more

Worst dentist ever. If you value the health of your mouth I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. From the lack of attention from an overworked dentist to the extended wait times even with an appointment, this dentistry is bottom of the barrel. I recently had a temporary crown put on and from having to wait over 30 minutes for the dentist to see me (they may bring you in the back room but that does not mean you are being seen) to having my temporary crown improperly fitted, to then having it crack and fall apart literally the next day, I would say you could find a better dentist probably in the back alley of a night club. If you decide to waste your time and money here, I recommend you contemplate putting your cash in a pile, burning it, and then eating a bowl full of gravel. read more

Dr. Schantz has been my primary dentist since 2012. I particularly like this practice because it is easy to schedule appointments online and you don't have to do it too far in advance. The practice has all the latest technology and everyone is patient and kind. There is plenty of garage parking and there are even other stores if you have other errands that need accomplishing. read more

If I could give CNS dental and Dr. Rami Ghorab 10 stars, I would. On Friday of last week, I had horrible tooth pain. The office was closed, so I left a voicemail. Dr. Rami Ghorab called me back shortly after (as did Dr. Schantz). He interrupted his weekend plans to come in on a Friday night and to tend to my infected tooth. Horrible service. They didn't do a good job cleaning and actually getting into my teeth. They just wanted to sell me on making more money and me getting invisalign when I have perfectly straight teeth. Then several months later after going to the dentist, they bill me for $100 dollars. I specifically asked if my insurance covered everything and they confirmed twice before I went. I sent several emails after asking if the issue was resolved. They never responded, Several months later (AGAIN) they billed me. Horrible place. Never going back again. read more

Dr. Schantz and her team--the desk personnel, techs and hygienists are all fabulous. They are just great at what they do. Dr. Schantz is such a professional and so nice as well. I had to get 3 crowns...not the way I really wanted to spend a few hours, of course, but Dr. Schantz and her assistant, Rashida were amazing. I gave them one star because that was the lowest option. I want to warn anyone who is looking for a dentist or who is currently a patient at CNS dental. I will say that most of the work done by Dr. Schantz was fine. She did a few fillings for me and also a crown. I never had, nor needed a crown before I went to her office, but she led me to believe I needed one (my current dentist does not do crowns, she does inlays and onlays and if I had known about these at the times I would have gone with that option, it maintains the integrity of the tooth, feels more natural and comfortable). But there have been 2 problems I experienced with Dr. Schantz and her office that have been beyond unacceptable. The first was that one filling she did for me never stopped hurting. It was done in October 2018 she suggested it was close to the nerve and my require a root canal. Within a week after she finished the filling I began to hurt and did not stop. I called the office multiple times to have her look at it and they could not get me in before I had to travel for work. In hindsight I am glad I did not go to her office for the work. At one point, after numbing the area she touched the tooth and it hurt so bad I jumped. Important to note I told Dr. Schantz multiple times that I am very sensitive and need time to become numb. When I jumped the hygienist scolded me and let me know that I would cause problems by doing so. Though probably true, I am in my mid 30s, if I am jumping it is because I was in extreme pain. It was unprofessional and inappropriate for another adult woman to scold an adult woman particularly when I told them that I was not easily numbed and they caused me pain. This was the beginning of a months long journey of constant pain with this tooth. I had to take ibuprofen every day for months and ultimately ended up having to go to another dentist to fix the tooth because their office could not get me in to fix it in a reasonable time and because I did not want her to ever touch the tooth again because of the pain they caused me, and I did not want to be scolded for being in pain. The second and most egregious issue I have had with CNS dental is that despite not having been to their office since January 4, 2019 on June 10, 2020. The email suggested I owed them money and attached was a document that was not entitled a statement of account. The statement of account had a list of services and a column with charges and column with credits. There is no clarity regarding payments by myself or payments by the insurance company it is billing speak but they used this to try to convince me that I owe them money though I have not been in their office for over a year and a half. I called the insurance company to find out if they made any changes and they explained to me they did not and walked through the billing with that dentist with me and could not understand why I was getting a bill from them over year and a half later. I replied to their email and explained this. Nevertheless they sent me another email suggesting I did not pay them for a crown, which I have bills and information in my account which shows I paid. The last email they sent was limited so I cannot forward it and also suggests the emails will expire June 23, 2020. When I screen shot their email and responded they chose not to respond instead they sent me a text message with a link for me to pay them. This situation is making me feel harassed at this point. Not only have they not made clear that I actually owe them money when I have documentation that I have paid them what they showed I owed them and I have documentation to show the insurance company paid them as well, but they keep just trying to find different ways to try to charge me money I do not owe them. This whole situation has been unprofessional and stressful. I am so grateful I stopped going to their office and I hope they are not doing this to anyone else. read more

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a dentist office. I had a friend recommend them to me and our experiences were polar opposite. After arriving 20 minutes early I had to wait another additional 20 minutes just to be called back. I then spent over an 1 1/2 at the dental office even though they preformed the most disappointing and minimal cleaning. After being scolded for 20+ minutes that I need to floss more the dental hygienist didn't even floss ONCE through out my appointment. All she did was a little scrapping at my teeth while continuing to scolded me for not flossing enough. Overall this was the most disappointing and disrespectful dental appointment I have ever experienced. There is a clear difference between a hygienist suggesting that someone needs to floss more and straight up demeaning a patient. When you leave the dentist you should be smiling showing of your clean teeth, I did not have this feeling at all. To top it all of they constantly are sending me email reminders for my next appointment under different client names. I have had to call/email repeatedly stating this is not me. By far the worst dental experience, and that is saying a lot. read more

This dental office has really gone downhill since our favorite dentist left. My fiancé and I will never go back to CNS Dental. It's time to find a new dentist! Dr. Schantz is always rushed, rude and condescending, and if you check out the other negative reviews for CNS Dental, you'll find similar comments from other patients. To this day, I have not had a single pleasant interaction with her. Additionally, CNS Dental only offers one expensive option for Invisalign, claiming that Invisalign is a "fixed price no matter what your teeth look like." It could be that CNS Dental refuses to offer options lower than $5,400, but Invisalign is absolutely NOT a fixed price, as I found out by going to other dentists. Make sure you do your homework before agreeing to any treatment at CNS Dental. I'm so glad to be done with CNS Dental. I look forward to never having to deal with them again. read more

I thought I lost a filling, and they were able to get me in the same day and combine the visit with a normal cleaning/checkup. My original filling was fine, but I needed a new filling elsewhere and they did that on the same visit too. It was painless and hassle-free, and they explained everything well. I have never had a bad dental experience, but this was the best I have had. My ability to keep this dentist will factor into my insurance decisions in the future. read more

Had my first appointment this afternoon at CNS Dental. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Appointment started exactly at scheduled time. Took my insurance, which is always a plus. Also had a TV in the exam room, which I had never experienced before. Mindless television kind of takes your mind off of the fact that someone is elbows deep in your mouth. Nice touch! Let me specify that my review pertain directly to Dr. Clarissa Moore. She is by far one of the most professional and personable dentists I have ever experienced in my life. As an adult who always had great dental hygiene and experienced my first cavity at 30 years of age, I have joined the 'Relucant Patient Club.' Although I don't dread dental visits, I do dread the extra work required to care for my teeth and gums. Apparently pyreia (sp?) runs in my family (my father and oldest sister both wore dentures forever as they had to have all their teeth removed by the age of 30). Anyhow Dr. Moore was extra attentive in conducting the scaling to remove plaque from below the gumline. Since your mouth is opened wide and for an extended period of time, Dr. Moore administered extra care on my left jaw as that is where my TMJ is the worst. More importantly, CNS Dental made it very easy and pain free to process my insurance (CareFirst) and schedule visits accordingly. CNS Dental pricing was far better than my previous dentist. Additionally, some dentists require payment at the time of scheduling rather than date of service. I do not condone such policies. CNS Dental has a lovely, clean and professional atmosphere. And the staff I have encountered have been pleasant. Sadly I recently learned that Dr. Moore is leaving CNS Dental to open her own practice in (Gainesville~I believe). I like this place. They are flexible, nice and the place is really pleasant. I love the TVs:) It is the little things in life!

While the office has amazing amenities and the staff is extremely friendly there are a few issues with the dental work itself. 1) The website states that the office is 1/2 mile from the metro. This is incorrect. It is over a mile, and closer to 2 miles from the metro. It needs to be updated. 2) The website also states that they have Saturday office hours and are open from 8am-2pm. This is also incorrect. They are not open. Be aware of this. 3) There is not an emergency number to reach the dentist or any staff. If you have an issue you can only call 911, go to an emergency room, or seek help from another dentist. During my initial visit, I found the dentist to be extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and not condescending like doctors can be. I had a few fillings and came back the following week. After she drilled, she then proceeded to tell me I needed two crowns and other work done. I was a bit weary but did not comment at the time. The next day, I woke up to my face being swollen like a chipmunk and my gums inflamed. There was not an emergency number, and the dentist was not available. Luckily, my friends dentist was able to assist me at 8am on Saturday morning stating that I had an infection. He was amazing. He found that I in fact DID NOT need two crowns or the other work she insisted I needed. He also said that she did not drill one of the cavities and just filled over it. Now he has to redo her work (he confirmed this with me by showing me on an Xray). I will not go back to her and do not recommend her service. read more

Dr. Christy Cowll is amazing. I had a filling done 8 months ago that gave me constant pain from a different dental practice. I went back to that practice and they made me feel crazy. I waited 8 months before the pain was just too much and called CNS after reading yelp reviews. I am terrified of dental work but Dr. Cowll really put me at ease with her pleasant and caring demeanor and smile. She diagnosed the problem in he first 2 min of me being in the chair. She personally cleaned my teeth and fit me in to have my filling redone and fixed as well as fill a new cavity on the spot. The dental assistant held my hand while she have me the shots and it was painless! We all joked and had a great time. It was like hanging out with gal pals while getting a filling. I love the staff at CNS and Dr.Cowll. Thank you so much for giving me back my smile! read more

I never thought I'd be giving any dentist a 5 star review, I was once terrified of the dentist's office. I found Dr. Schantz about two years ago after taking some years off from the dentist after a horrible visit with a different dentist. Even though I was terrified to be in there, Dr. Schantz was, and still is, so amazing. I needed a number of fillings, and she also referred me to a periodontist. Between the two of them, they have worked hard to get my smile back on track. Her bedside manner is incredible, you always know what's going on, she always explains what will happen next. I'm not afraid to go in there anymore... last time I volunteered to have a gap closed in my molar area just because the space was too big. She had to fill a number of cavities in the front, but you'd never be able to tell. She matched it up perfect. I've been seeing her consistently and will continue to do so. If you too are nervous about going to the dentist, or don't want to face the work you need done, you may want to pay her a visit. As a small kid, I liked my pediatric dentist, mostly because he gave me 20 different flavors of fluoride to choose from... I like Dr. Schantz even better. Also, the girls in the front and the hygienists are awesome. Crack a joke and they smile at you... how much more can you ask for really? As a result of working with CNS, I'd say that my smile went from a 3 or 4/10 to a 9/10. My teeth are really looking great, and have Cara Schantz to thank for that! I love all the staff! Front desk can be a little intimidating at times, but since I work in customer service too I totally understand them :) I've been there 3 times and all those times the service I got was top notch. Everyone is so professional, and the ocean blue decor, comfy dentist chairs and calming music makes you feel like your in a spa not the dentist office. Well I was utterly disappointed by how this practice tried to push an unnecessary deep cleaning that would have cost me 600$ out of pocket since it required Arestin pushed by the hygienist (can't remember her name). Luckily, I was smart enough to get a second opinion from another dentist. Who stated that I do not have any deep pockets and a deep cleaning is not needed let alone one that requires Arestin. To begin with many research have shown that Arestin does not improve healing process of your gums by much even if you have periodontal disease. Plus the hygienist did not even offer it to me as an optional treatment. So if you go to this practice please watch for the extra things they try to charge. I Initially saw Dr Ghorab, very nice bedside manner. However, wanted to crack my teeth open because he saw little cavities on 4 teeth. I would have let him do it if he had not suggested a deep cleaning that was outrageous. So my new dentist mentioned that there are tiny little cavities in order to fill them would require to dig a hole bigger than the cavities so he will watch the extent of the cavities by routine visits. Saw if you decide to go to this place watch for what kind of treatment they try to push and don't let them crack your teeth open before getting a second opinion. read more

Changed to CNS from a Georgetown dentist after moving to Crystal City from Clarendon. They are literally downstairs from my condo, but for others, they are walking distance to the metro, exactly a mile to Crystal City metro, or theres a 9S shuttle bus that drops you there in 5 mins if you dont want to walk. Great office, great staff, and I love that they give you quotes for things that you might want to have done in the future. I found my neighborhood dentist! :) read more
