I don't understand how this place stays in business because they never get anything right. We go here occasionally, the food is ok (if you stick to breakfast foods and club sandwiches). We have ordered delivery a few times. The last time they left off the Russian dressing and Cole slaw from our order of turkey club sandwiches. This time we made a similar order and even told the woman who took or order to please be sure everything we order is included. Well, imagine our surprise when the order arrived it was not only missing the Russian dressing but also missing both of the soups we ordered (and paid for). When we called back and spoke to the woman who took out order her response was "well I was not the one to put your order into the computer"." Seriously?! So I've been going to this place since I was a child! Going here brought back so many memories. They have an extensive menu and tons of specials. I had the prime rib sandwich with onion rings the special came soup and salad bar. I got the chicken noodle soup with was very tasty. The sandwich wasn't the greatest I am a prim rib lover and I asked for it medium and it came out well done. Also it just came on bread with sauce or lettuce or tomato I should have asked more questions but was excited when I saw it as the special. Our waiter was very friendly and you could tell that he really enjoys his job. They have a lot of desserts and a lot of the meals come with a dessert soup or salad bar. Hubby and I had breakfast at this diner that we've driven by for so many years without visiting. Well, now we have a new go-to diner! We both had the BLT - crispy bacon as requested and no mayo. Super fresh on rye toast. The fries were excellent.. I hate when fries taste like fish because the oil is used but these were great, as were the super yummy crispy onion rings. We went last night. My son ordered mini burgers and my daughter French toast sticks . Both off the kids menu. Food comes - server brings chicken fingers and a whole burger. We are confused and tell her that it must be the wrong table. She is insisting that this is what we ordered. Then she said they don't even make sliders/mini burgers. She is refusing to take it back. I go to the hostess and request to see a manager - she said they don't have a manager - what????? I insist on them take it back - they do and 10 minutes sliders and French toast come. Sliders are hard as a rock and the French toast sticks are one mushy piece French toast cut into pieces. Honestly - how do u have a restaurant like this??? I'm exhausted , but before I close my eyes I have to commend the Coach House for OUTSTANDING service. Our waitress Kayla gave us service with a big old fashioned smile . No matter what our request (butter, cream, ice, water & more cream), she complied and came with a smile. Her energy was infectious. I thought I had my house keys with me, but since I was riding - I wasn't driving and may have left them at home. When I got home, I couldn't find them. I called back to the Coach House and asked for Kayla. She put me on hold and searched for my keys. She checked my seats, the bathroom and the garbage! She was getting off at 4:00AM and returning at 9:00AM!!! I felt guilty bothering her with my nonsense. She was nice anyway. I found my keys out my kitchen counter! I called back and asked the manager to let Kayla know I was okay. I was happy with the food and the service. The bathroom was a little messy, but they were on the way to cleaning it when I left. Dear George P, owner, we just had dinner at the coach house. I should have read reviews before we came. All of the negative reviews are true. You keep replying to each person and asking them to come back for a better experience. You say you want feedback so you can improve but obviously you are not taking anyone's feedback. Obviously you need to train your staff to be more attentive to the customers. Also we found that your prices were quite high compared to diners in the area. Just like someone else that posted a review, we had the gentleman waiter who I believe is of Indian descent. It was very hard to understand him and he was pushy with conversation which we were not fully interested in. We just came from a wake and was not up to small talk. After a Server gave us our dinner, the waiter never once came over to the table to check on us. When we were finished another server took away our plates and we waited at least 10 minutes before we could finally flag the waiter down to get our check. He hardly had any tables while we were there. He was busy chitchatting with the cashier most of the time. Overall the food was good but a bit expensive. STAY AWAY: Unfortunately. we chose to bring our 93-year-old mother/mother-in-law for dinner at the mostly empty (a bad sign) Coach House on Monday, May 3 She yearned for a thick, juicy burger -- she got a flat, black hockey puck. I asked for a little tzatziki for a baked potato. The potato was nuked, and the tzatziki was literally ROTTEN and tasted like soap. I gagged, spit it out, rinsed with water and spit again. But the worst part was when I brought it to the attention of the manager at the register, he just shrugged and said nothing. I've came to this location for over 2 years, my friends come here and my mother has came here for over 40 years. So sad to say that the workers here are extremely disrespectful. To be more specific, an Indian man and an African American woman that apparently is the manager. First off, on numerous occasions of me dining in, I've witnessed this "manager" scream and insult multiple customers. She's always running into issues with customers and the waiters. My mother called over the phone once to resolve an issue with delivery and she insulted my 60 year old mother. She has zero respect and think she can do whatever she wants, when she wants. As for the Indian man, my boyfriend and I were dining in one night and he was being extremely rude the entire time of interacting with us and taking our order. We paid cash and tipped well even though he didn't deserve it, as we got up to leave he got in the way of the booth blocked us off and counted the cash right in front of us as if we didn't pay the exact amount or as if we didn't tip. I was completely shocked by his actions (I regret tipping). This was one of the most rudest things I've ever experienced in an establishment. I honestly would rate this zero stars if I could. Steer far from the "manager" (it might be hard to avoid her since she's the hostess but try as much as possible) and the waiter, his section is on the left side of the establishment. Very hit or miss in this Hackensack diner. Today was a total miss. Sit down and got serviced right away by the bus boy who got us coffee. Even though one of the mugs had lipstick smeared all over the rim what brought me here to write this review is the service. No waiter for 10 min. We then complained to the bus boy who really did his due diligent to try to get us a waiter. After another 5 min a young kid comes over to take our order, I asked him for a new coffee mug also asked him about the menu because usually they have more options for breakfast. What a good diner. Its located on Rt-9 where this is diner central, so I came here not knowing anything about it, but I'm glad I did stop by. From first entering the diner it really big and homey. There is a huge salad bar with many different selections of salad. I had the 1/2 chicken dinner with a side of mash. Chicken was very moist and filling. My girlfriend had the chicken parm sandwich which seemed a bit over a foot long. The sandwich was also very good. Overall I would recommend this diner if you are on Rt9 and not sure where to eat. read more

Not sure what happened, but The Coach House ain't what it used to be. We were starving, popped in for dinner last Friday night, not sure who was working the line, but looking at the plates, they just weren't feeling it. I had a "Monte Cristo Sandwich," which 8 know as basically a batter - dipped, deep - fried, club sandwich comprised of sliced turkey, ham, and Swiss cheese, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Most places today will give you two pieces of French toast, then grill the sandwich to finish it. The Coach House version was two pieces of French Toast, undercooked on one side, ham turkey and Swiss thrown on top, and broiled just long enough to melt the cheese, and plated off center, no powdered sugar. I mean hell it was under $10, and even though it was ugly, after I assembled it into a sandwich, it didn't taste bad. ( I've got similar problems with lazy open - faced reubens) My girlfriend got Eggplant Parm with linguini, huge portion, a large slab of multi - layered eggplant parm, slapped right on top of a bowl of linguini, sauce was super watery. You may not know this, but many places do not cook pasta to order, it's pre cooked less than al dente, then put a portion in a strainer, then into a pot of boiling water to finish. My guess is, one way or the other, this pasta wasn't really allowed to drain properly, thus the soupy sauce, plus no cheese or bread brought to the table. Like I said, not real expensive, but you still need to take some pride in what you're sending out from your kitchen. On a lighter note, out waiter was an amateur comedian, so he and I traded pointed barbs throughout the meal. Definitely underwhelming, but I have a feeling we'll still return. read more

Went in for breakfast this Friday with a friend. We were approached within seconds for seating which including taking our drink orders before leaving us to look over the menu. We both had French toast with eggs although I did get mine with bacon and Taylor ham. Wait time was a bit longer than expected but the place was packed and it never got to a ridiculous point although it was a good wait. We both can agree that the French toast was amazing. Eggs were good no complaints, bacon was crunchy which is what I prefer and the Taylor ham was pretty good as well. Considering how packed they were the staff was as attentive as they can be. I believe we only had to called them over once and that was for the check. We lost track of time and needed to head out not to mention we had literally just finished when we called the staff over so they didn't have a chance to do it on their own so I wouldn't even count that against them. All in all almost a perfect experience. Only thing that could of made things better was the wait time between ordering and the dish coming out. Considering it was breakfast I expected things to move a little quicker even with the extra people. read more

Coach House Diner used to be a nice place to come to. They still give you plenty of food. The food is so so. I recently ordered a plate of Chicken Parmigiana. They gave me a plate of slop. It was quickly prepared and the chicken was half done. I took a few bites. I put it in a box and took it home. I don't know why I did that. I just threw it in the garbage when I got home. The Chicken Caesar Salad is good. They seldom clean their floors. Your shoes are constantly stuck to the floor because of something that is on the floor. The bathrooms are not that clean either. There are two or three people that work there that I really like. One waiter didn't wait on us first after we had been sitting to be served for a long time. Instead he waited on some people that came in after us. I tip by service given and if I like you. Some waiters that I don't like, might get the bare minimum. The ones that I like will get well over 15%. Also, forget about social distancing. They don't care about that. In all fairness, I haven't been here in 3 years, so I'm not sure if things have changed since then. Growing up, my dad would always take me and my sister here for meals. It was either here or the Forum Diner (which is no longer there). I loved it as a kid and it's nostalgic for me because as a young adult I'd go here after a night out of drinking. I used to work next door at Ground Round decades ago and we always got breakfast from there. One night, they sprayed for bugs and didn't cover their bread. I tasted the chemicals immediately and brought it back. They refunded my $$$. In the early 2000's I had gone a few times and was satisfied with my food. I remember their parm dishes to be surprisingly good. Fast forward to 3 years ago. My man and I decided to go and check it out. I ordered the fried shrimp and he ordered a reuben. When the shrimp came out, it was so sad looking. Fried shrimp on lettuce to absorb the oil. Definitely frozen shrimp. Reminded me of fried butterfly shrimp from a Chicken Magician or a Long John Silvers only not as good! I asked for cocktail sauce and they were out! How are you out of cocktail sauce? It's so simple to whip some up. Not sure if it was the cooks that night or the server, but I wouldn't have gotten that if I knew they were out. I ended up using tarter sauce. To top that off, they were out of mustard for the Reuben! Again, maybe the server was just super lazy. No diner should be out of mustard or cocktail sauce. It was so strange. Anyway, I haven't been back since then and have no desire to. There's way too many dinners in the area to settle for the Coach House. 1 star for my last experience and the chemicals from 20+ years ago, but 3 stars for my other experiences. read more

Honestly one of the worst diners we've ever been to. We actually can't believe that there are ever so many cars there in the parking lot. The server we had was friendly. The place needs a GOOD rug cleaning. It smells like smelly old carpet that belongs in an old persons house. The restaurant itself has cool old features that would be nice if they just did something with the place. To start, we ordered an appetizer trio ($14)- chicken tenders, buffalo wings, and mozzarella sticks. 3 of each came on the plate. The mozzarella sticks weren't bad, pretty typical I suppose. The buffalo wings were just alright. Could have definitely been fried more so the skin wasn't so elastic-y. The chicken tenders were rubbery and had that weird "crunch" like fake frozen chicken has. We ate 2 buffalo wings and 1 mozzarella stick. My husband took one bite from the chicken tender and ended up spitting it out completely because of the gross texture. They ended up taking it off the table because they saw we weren't touching anything else on the plate and didn't bother to ask if something was wrong with it, or if we wanted to take the plate full of food to go. My husband told the waitress that the food was poor and since we hardly ate a thing on the plate, the server ended up suggesting that there may be a way we could take it ($14) off the bill. The waitress went back and forth to the manager to relay messages to us about how they can't take it off the bill but instead they can give us something else in its place. I didn't want anymore kind of confrontation about it so i suggested an order of mozzarella sticks. She came back and said "we aren't going to be able to give you a full order, we can give you a few mozzarella sticks, like 3". We literally couldn't believe that this was the solution the manager came up with. They gave us 3 mozzella sticks and 3 buffalo wings. Husband ordered a coke from the fountain machine and when he took a sip, it tasted like watered down sewer water soda. We figured, "maybe it's the ice". So we told them it tastes funny and we would like another soda without any ice. We get another coke to the table and it tasted just the same. Flat, watered down, sewer water aftertaste soda. We literally did not drink EITHER of the sodas. You would think they would ask if there's something wrong with the soda, right? Nope. Not at all. We ended up paying $3 for a soda we didn't even drink. I ordered a waffle with ice cream and an order of disco fries, well done since I like crispy fries. The waffle was pretty good, it was a standard Belgium waffle. I never got my fries. When the waitress was reminded about the fries when I was already half done with the waffle, she went back in a hurry "to check on it" and when she came out she apologized for it being so late and blamed the chef for apparently burning the cheese and then not wanting to serve it to me. When they came out it was obvious that the fries were not well done, they were still that weird not fully cooked potato texture. Obviously because they were rushed to be put in and served. I put them in a to go box and didn't even end up eating the leftovers because of their yuck texture. The gravy they used was turkey or chicken gravy and basically tasteless. I threw them in the garbage. Yet another item paid for but not eaten. My husband ordered a Ruben sandwich and fries. He said it was okay, but probably wouldn't order it again as it didn't even come out hot. Overall, 10/10 would never come here again. Between the poor service and the honestly bad/mediocre food, I wouldn't waste another dime here. There are plenty other diners around that have better prices and WAY tastier food. read more

Really really disappointed the salad bar is gone. I liked the cole slaw and a couple other salad varieties very much. Maybe 1 star is a little harsh because the food is okay, but the main reason I was a regular customer was the salad bar so I am highly disappointed. My 25 year patronage of this place has come to an end. People are visiting restaurants again and most are vaccinated so why is the salad bar gone? Based on recommendations from friends, they said that this place was good. I have graduated college since but I came here 2-3 years ago. In all honesty, my boyfriend and I have had horrible experiences the two times we came and have never came back since. We came the second time because we thought that maybe it was just a bad day the first time we came, but the service here is unfortunately very poor. The first time we came here, we had to wait a long time for someone to get our order, get our food, and get our check. The second time we came here, we thought it would be better. I still remember how long it took us to get water and the waiter to come. I can tell you that there were hardly any customers in the diner because my boyfriend and I ended late from school. It took 15 to 20 minutes to get service. And just like last time, it took a long time to get the food. It's such a shame because I was craving waffles and the waffles did taste delicious which is why I am giving it a star. I splurge on the salad bar for under $5 so I was able to bring back 1/2 the tuna fish sandwich . Tried their rice pudding .
