We've been waiting/hoping for someone to come into this building and give us something reminiscent of the old Coach and Four. Who remembers going there on a Saturday nite, you are into your second cocktail before the menus show up. They knew dinner WAS your evening. Face it, in East Hartland you're not doing dinner and a movie save for Redbox or Netflix at home.
Let me preface this by saying this is constructive criticism. I spent 20 something years in the restaurant business from dish washing up to owning one, and now am in one that deals with restaurants on a daily basis. They're not doing the building justice. If I want Sofia's I'll go there. I hope the ownership reads this and heads at least some of my concerns. I want this place to work, the area needs this place to work. I get that it is only 3 weeks in and it was very busy, but they've been in the business for a long time.
First, ambience. Easy fix, Turn Down The Lights!!
Second, please ask the bartenders not to put their fingers inside the wine glass when pulling off the rack. And while we are talking about glasses and wine, the staff needs to view the glasses before bringing to a table. There may be a hard water problem that needs to be addressed, the wine glasses are VERY streaked.. Easy fix, wipe them first.
And the wines, hopefully list will grow. I don't begrudge starting with a small list. The staff has a lot to learn and this, mostly young, staff needs some learning. But....while I get it, and don't mind paying the restaurant markup on wines, I know what they pay for these wines and your prices are steep for the quality of wine being poured. I'll pay readily for a $10 glass of wine, but I want better quality. Remember where you are and who some of your audience is. You will have a very diverse clientele, especially once the snow flies.
Service. The waitress we had needs to take the 'blinders' off. She seemed to be focused on one task only at a time. While walking through the dining room multiple times over a 20 minute period, twice with a water pitcher in hand, she should have noticed my empty glass. Along with this, most of the staff on the floor always seemed very hurried. This is very disconcerting to diners. Slow Down. Be more efficient, make less trips.
The food. Good with one caveat. My dish sat under a heat lamp far too long. And while sitting there we were waiting a bit longer than we should have (no points taken off here for being new).
Again maybe take the building into more consideration, it's an historic coach stop in New England (what cuisine was the last restaurant here that failed?)
All told, we will be back, hopefully to find some fixes. We love having a place to go up here. We want you on this corner!!! East Hartland NEEDS you on this corner!!!! read more
