It was a nice experience and the guide explained things well. The day was fresh when we went and there's definitely something to learn here.

A delightful museum that is full of informative and well designed exhibits. Native American history, geology, farming, the cotton and date industries, black smithing, fabric spinning and weaving, an early school room, the water aqueduct, and more. It is not a big place, but it is chock full! We had a very friendly and knowledgable Docent who guided us through the museum and grounds. This is a must see place when visiting the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley area. I highly recommend it.

Coachella Valley History Museum is in the home of the Smileys, one of the first doctors to live in Indio which was founded as a convenient half way point between Los Angeles & Yuma, Arizona. It pays homage to the original Native American inhabitants displaying woven baskets. grinding stones, other artifacts. Our short coiffed, expert lady docent was well versed in relating to Cahuilla & old Indio prehistory. King Trapper John? was a Desert Cahuilla (kah wee yah) Native American who sports a top hat & US military jacket in a framed photograph. She explained that since President Lincoln wore a stove pipe hat, the King decided to distinguish himself as a cultured man of his tribe, and he wore an US officer's military jacket that was presented to him from the very person saved by the King. Colorful person that the King was, he liked to live alone & often went into the mountains coming back w/ gold to spend although he wisely never told anyone of the whereabouts of the precious metal. In the same room as the Cahuilla, the geography of the Coachella Valley back a few million years shows it once was under the sea as an extension of the Golfo de Cortes/Gulf of California. Perhaps as the San Andreas fault slowly slides open, the Coachella Valley may once again see some beach front property in a million years or so. For the rest of the tour, Ms. Koehler, from one of the early families in Indio, took it upon herself to highlight the rest of the museum. She took great pride in her family running a very successful feed & seed store, showing us a series of the photos depicting the store through the many decades. Also there are photos showing how the hot climate of the area was conducive to all kinds of produce since the rich soil was deposited by the meandering Colorado River. The 1965 exhibit of what was seen, heard, experienced in Indio is particularly of interest for Baby Boomers since it is the last year of that generation before Generation X came into play. Better hurry since it is scheduled to close by the end of May 2017. Ms. Koehler also took us to the Date Museum which is a rather elaborate history & glorification of that sweet, dulcet fruit from the arid yet aquifer rich areas of Northern Africa & the Middle East. Also there is a large two room school house w/ classic blackboard, chair-desks on wooden runners, school bell pull rope. She was so kind as to see us out at the front entrance. Great local museum w/ nostalgic idiosyncracies & interesting characters as well as depicting local color. But more importantly, the two lady docents made the CVHM come to life with stories to tell of this venerable city of Indio. I'm a fan, and will be back when the new exhibit replaces "Indio1965" 4 Yelp stars. AdChoices © 2017 AOL Inc. All Rights Reserved

This is a wonderful small local museum worth a visit. There are inside and outdoor exhibits. Date palm trees outside are labeled and varieties explained. One entire building is devoted to dates! Small admission charge. Bathrooms are open. Friendly staff and tours are available.

I came here to see the desert submarine, a small metal shack with two beds. Used by railroad and construction crews before the age of air-conditioning, cooling of the interior was achieved by the constant evaporation of water-soaked burlap that covered the galvanized metal exterior. Supposedly, this cool concept lowered the temperature in the shack between 20-30 degrees. There's more to see at the Coachella Valley Museum and the volunteer guides provide a thorough overview as they take you from room to room of a former physician's home and through the exhibits outside. A renovated early schoolhouse (that also serves as a place for meetings) is part of the complex and a date museum will be a new addition in October. The kid in me hopes they think about constructing a working model of the desert submarine.

The Coachella Valley History Museum is a delightful off the path treasure to discover in Indio. Plan to spend a couple of hours. Tours are given by knowledgeable docents. They have well preserved historic icons of the early history of the Coachella Valley. There is a historic date grove, and interesting artifacts from the Native American population, and the fascinating history of how the Salton Sea came to be. It's worth your while to stop by if you love learning about history.

We were looking for something to do on a cool winter day in the Coachella Valley and had a great 2 hours! Call ahead and make sure you take a very knowledgeable tour with there host. The key things we took away from the visit was a greater understanding of the Salt and Sea and why we find seashells in the desert. You will find many items and interesting reading as you proceed through the old schoolhouse, the blacksmith house, the kitchen from the early 1900s. Thanks for a great time. It is not a glitzy modern place but has much character and ambiance of the time the museum represents.

Soooooo beautiful and amazing. My daughter and her great grandmother and I were very fortunate to have had a tour by Carole who was the sweetest person we have met thus far in our trip to Indio

We totally enjoyed this little museum. The staff here are super knowledgeable and friendly. We arrived late, half an hour before closing on Sunday afternoon as we received incorrect business hours information. We learned that they won't open until Friday next if we missed Sunday tour, and they learned that we will leave town on Thursday, all three staff decided to stay late and open for us and toured us around the museum. It was a great experience that our kids enjoyed learning the history of Coachella valley. The lady at the store (forgot her name) even drew a map for directions to a local garden since I asked about where to get date.

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit - the Bracero Program
    Rosquete B.

Serendipity! We were looking for things to do in the Palm Springs area & read about a traveling Smithsonian exhibition about the Bracero Program. It is housed at the CVHM which is an unexpected treasure housing 3 sites. The Date Museum shares info about the date industry in Indio, the U.S. date capitol. There is also a great 1909 school house. The History Museum is a fantastic house that tells about the Cahuillas, etc. Docents,Bill & Kathy are fountains of knowledge Admission $10, senior $8 Facilities available for reunions, weddings, school trips

    Glad I have curly hair.

This museum is a perfect slice of Coachella Valley life in the early to mid-twentieth century. It's housed in adobe cottages, and the docents have done a nice job of documenting what life was like. There were wonderful examples of Native American baskets and mortars, a submarine shelter (ingenious idea!), and an excellent exhibit of influential and pioneering women who lived here. Grounds are peaceful and shady, and out back is some neat old stuff from around the area. Don't skip the Indio schoolhouse, it'll take you back! The Date Museum was okay.

Wonderful tour here. Saw lots if gadgets that my grandparent had in their home. Learned about the history of the area. Walked around the outside and across the street to the date museum and the old schoolhouse. All were very cool. No one else there so we enjoyed everything in peace and quiet

Inside the school house was pretty cool to see!

My husband and I stayed until 12am cleaning up the mess our selves in our wedding attire. Then once we got everything cleaned up we were told we also have to take all the trash to the dumpsters half a mile away. So we didnt make it to our honeymoon cabin till 3am and I ruined my dress with trash because of this. For the price they should DEFINITELY have included a cleaning fee. I felt like a little kid having fun exploring the nooks and crannies of the grounds, but I didn't have the chance to see the rest of the place. A walkway built for couples surrounds the perimeter of this beautiful lagoon. Actually, I think the walkways are just wide enough for Skipper to walk through. Sorry, Gilligan. Benches, huts, a firepit for toasting S'mores, tiki torches, and various live tropical foliage embellish your journey throughout the vast walkway. I remember hearing another party next door, but wasn't sure if it was within Corona Yacht Club's domain or a neighboring competitor. They have two bathrooms for women and one for men, which would be along the path to your left once you enter the main hall... in case you realize that the 10 freeway was much much longer than you expected. I didn't make it and had to go at a gas station. All of their staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The food on the other hand, was average, but I enjoyed their mini-burgers and chicken quesadillas. I think they may have gone through a vendor for this, so I can't have that impact my review that much. The open bar made my night, but dancing on the dock over the lake and constant laughing with family and friends guaranteed that I had a night to remember. Party on little buddy. Party on. *A Note on Directions: After exiting Dillon Rd on the 10 Freeway you'll make a right onto Dillon Road, then a QUICK left onto Vista Del Sur. If you pass the gentleman's club, you've gone too far. We got lost trying to look for (in English) View of the South. Once on Vista Del Sur though, you can then make a right onto Tyler Street. At first, the investment might feel like a lot...but when you really think about it, most venues charge a significant amount for just 4-5 hours. At Old Polo, you have the option to turn your wedding into an entire weekend experience and that made all the difference for us. We booked three nights at Old Polo and we don't regret it for a second. We had our entire bridal party and family stay on the property, and it honestly felt like a wedding vacation (even though we live locally - it was the best "staycation" we've ever had). Instead of one quick blur of a day, we had a full weekend of memories, laughter, pool time, late-night chats, and quality time with the people we love most. It was the best time of our lives. The Coachella Valley Invitational Tournament is pre-season soccer for men (MLS) and women (NWSL), played at the Empire Polo Club in February each year. We have visited Palm Desert for many years, and have visited before and after the tournament the past couple years, but have missed attending; thankfully schedules aligned this year. After watching previous games on YouTube, this year we got to be there in person! The tournament's site offers some challenges on finding General Admission tickets; after some time we found that the Los Angeles Galaxy (LAG) were managing the tickets; a quick call with Miguel, who was very helpful, and we soon had our tickets in the app ready to be there for the soccer. Thanks, Miguel!! Parking for soccer was easy to find based on the online map and following the signs. For food, under the semi-permanent tent they have food trucks and an open bar. Here is little shade on the fields; some palm trees in the corners offer a place to cool off; otherwise if the skies are clear, the Palm Desert sun will provide copious doses of Vitamin D to lift your spirits. DJ Alf Alpha provided dance tubes all day and there were various soccer skills for fans to participate in. Even when the weather is not as nice as it was for us, this is still a great facility, with low humidity. Fun fact... the Salton Sea is the second lowest point in the US, after Badwater Basin / Death Valley; if I calculated correctly, the Empire Polo Club elevation is 5-20 feet. Thank you to everyone who makes the Coachella Valley Invitational possible! We tried to find other accommodations near by but because of the holiday weekend, we were out of luck. We had planned a get away with another couple to relax, enjoy the pool and bbq. Boy were we in for a surprise! We were drawn to the place because of the pictures on the website. And because it's in a gated country club resort. That website is extremely misleading!! We were given rooms on the second floor. As the husbands were getting our luggage out of our car, me and my other family member decided to take a look at the pool area from the second floor. As we look down, a gentleman was rolling up a hose for cleaning the pool. He immediately says to us "are you the ones that complained?" in a rude tone. We told him "no, we just got here" and he tells us "well I can't perform miracles". The pool was STILL DIRTY!!! We walked to our rooms and gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking he just wasn't done cleaning it. My husband opened our room door and it was extremely hot inside. My family members were right next door and their room was cool because the AC unit was on. So we hung out for a bit in their room. The room was run down, the bathroom was dirty and the shower had mold around the bottom. We decided to check our bathroom next door. The toilet was disgustingly gross. It had mold all over it. The shower was just as bad. Please see pictures below. I told my husband that I was in no way going to use that toilet as it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months!!! The guys went to the office to find out about changing rooms. The manager was extremely rude! She just didn't want to hear it. She offered us a free drink!!!! When my husband said no she then offered him a free meal!!! Again he refused and said we would not even sit on the toilet. She then offered him two additional rooms to look at. But when the reservation was made online, we were given a statement that said 'you just booked the last room'. VERY MISLEADING!!!! We took the better of those two rooms offered. That room was just as bad! I've attached pictures of the blow dryer in the room along with a video of the bathroom ceiling fan every time it was turned on, that's the noise we had to hear. The water in the bathroom sink would take forever to go down, see video. On to the outside pool area. I've attached pictures of the bbq that was disgustingly dirty. We would NEVER put anything we were going to eat on that. Along with the outside furniture and lounge chairs. I wouldn't even feed my animals on that table or have them sit on those chairs. Look at the jacuzzi and pool filters. They haven't been cleaned in months. Both pool and jacuzzi were filthy!! This was after my husband complained about our room and the pool area. Another gentleman rushed over to clean the pool and furniture along with the bbq. I don't know what he cleaned with but we're sure it wasn't with chemicals or cleaning supplies. They were all still filthy! We ended up having to find things to do outside of the hotel resort grounds. When we returned back for the night, we were locked out of our room! My husband had to walk down to the security gate and a security guard had to come open our door and told us we would need to go back to the office in the morning when they opened to get new key cards. Worse hotel we have ever been to!! Never again!! Doesn't even deserve one star. I could go on even more but I'm getting frustrated and grossed out all over again. And to the manager, learn some manners if you're in a management position.

Because it was the weekend of the Coachella music festival, the entire resort was full and it was extremely busy. Check in was quick and easy with friendly staff. Since it is a WorldMark location, we were offered the timeshare presentation (marketed as a "tour of the property"); we politely declined and they never bothered us again about it. The following items really annoyed me and I am not sure whether this is the norm or if it was because it was busy and the resort was full. - The resort DOES NOT provide additional towels. You can only replace dirty towels by calling housekeeping and trading your dirty towels for new ones. I have never seen a resort/hotel do this and did not like this practice. Just really annoying. - The resort does not offer housekeeping, even though we stayed for 4 nights! Our room was never cleaned as a result and we had to take the trash out ourselves. I even tried leaving the trash outside my door so that housekeeping can just grab it, but I found that it was just left there all day. Some other cons... - The AC does not work in the bedrooms. It is strong in the living rooms, but there is no air in the bedrooms for some reason. Being in the desert, it was sooo hot getting up to the high 90s outside. AC is necessary! - The food in the market/cafe is pretty mid... With WorldMark Indio being a large well-known resort in the area, I would expect the cafe food to be better. Pro though - I like that they have a market/cafe; definitely helpful to get a quick lunch in before heading to Coachella. - The security becomes very aggressive if you do not have their resort wristbands on. I accidentally left mine in the room on the first day and was almost not let back onto the property even though I could tell them my full name with ID... The best and really the only PRO I can tell you about is that there are shuttles here that take you to the festival! It is run by a private company called LF Festivals. It is very convenient and costs $145 per person. It is expensive but it was convenient and made it so that we had one less thing to think about. One thing they could work on though is the wait times. I waited over an hour sometimes to get onto a shuttle since the line was so long. Sometimes though there was no wait and I got onto a van immediately. Okay, I know I have a lot of negatives to say but it's a solid place to stay. I guess I just had high expectations because of the high price. Overall, nearly every staff I interacted with was very friendly and helpful and the front desk is quick to answer the phone when you need assistance with something. The room was clean and there is a microwave, fridge, freezer, and stove. Very convenient.

Our daughter practices and plays soccer games here, and our son goes to school across the street, so he and his friends often come over after school to hang out, relax, and spend some time outside. It's the kind of park that really brings the community together. The park itself is spacious, clean, and very well maintained. There's a large playground that younger kids absolutely love, and it's big enough that it doesn't feel crowded even when a lot of families are there. The splash pad is another huge hit, especially during the warmer months. It's a great way for kids to cool off and have fun while parents relax nearby. There are also plenty of open grassy areas, which makes it perfect for sports practices, pickup games, or just letting kids run around and burn off some energy. The park has several shaded areas and spots with grills, which makes it a great place for family gatherings, birthday parties, or just a casual afternoon with friends. We've seen many families set up and spend hours here enjoying the space. What we also love is how active the park feels. There are always people walking, playing sports, or just enjoying the outdoors, which gives it a really welcoming community vibe. It's clearly a place that a lot of locals appreciate and use regularly. The only downside we've experienced is the parking situation. Because the park is across the street from the high school, the parking lot often gets filled up during school events or games, and it can sometimes be tough to find a spot. A little more dedicated parking for the park itself would definitely help. Aside from that, this park is a fantastic community space and one our family truly enjoys. It's a great place for kids, sports, and spending time outdoors, and we're really grateful to have such a nice park nearby.
