Have been going there for 35years with a group of friends totaling upward to 32 players. It is under new ownership and is going through some growing pain. But we had a very unacceptable occurance. We are a stay and play group, where we 36 holes on Friday and Saturday, and stay in the resort so we don't have to venture anywhere. It has been great for years. We have set tee times and have various money games on the line. This year, they scheduled an shotgun outing which caused us to end our morning rounds after 14 holes. Unacceptable!!! The supposed head of golf operations, some young dweeb couldn't care less and said "we were just a stay and play group" so he didn't care. We are not "just" a stay and play group. 35 years of going there, enjoying the commradery, have a group of people that for many, is the only time we get together, is alot lot more than "just" a stay and play group. I hope next year things will straighten out and the little "dweeb" is gone. Golf course was in great shape for what it is. read more

Stopped by this place for lunch on our way back to IL after a family vacation to the Dells. We were told they were only serving brunch until 2pm so we had their brunch. The amount of food was appropriate and overall it wasn't bad although since it was the tail end of the brunch some of the food was a little not so fresh. Overall appropriate though. They had eggs, bacon, pancakes, ribs, chicken, potatoes, chips with dip (dip was very good), salad, sausages, dessert, etc. While the dip was very good did notice there were flies flying around and in the dip and that kinda creeped me out. Service was excellent. Our waitress made my family and I feel comfortable and meet our needs. I asked for lemons and there they were. She was great! Our food, now that's not as good. Pork chops were burned on one side, but I didn't know until I turned it over. Burned on the opposite side. Disappointed. The Friday night fish was over cooked and dry. The Wisconsin cheese burger was ordered medium. The burger arrived over cooked. The bun was burnt. The strawberry salad was the winner!!! We had their Mother's Day Brunch today. It's nothing like it was in the past. The hash browns were so salty I couldn't eat them. The BBQ ribs were tough and couldn't be cut. Lots of the platters were almost empty or empty. Instead of bringing out a fresh tray and replacing the empty tray, they removed the tray and didn't replace it for about 15 minutes. The smoked salmon was watery and smelled and tasted very fishy. Another thing you couldn't eat. Most of the foods were way over seasoned. When we got to the desserts there was carrot cake left. My husband was able to get a tiny sliver of the pie. It was about 1/4" by 2.5". Carrot cake was maybe 1" square. Small servings are one thing but at $40 a person this was a rip off. The best part of our brunch was our server. She was wonderful. read more

What we did get was a limited selection of ice-cold food and store-boughten desserts. Unless you liked potatoes; there were four choices. No drinks wete included. The Salad was served with some rancid commercial blue cheese dressing that made the salad inedible. Their signature crusted walleye was overcooked with no flavor whatsoever. I love this place and have a lot of fun every time I come here. I typically come here on a golf trip with twenty other guys so it has to be demanding to take care of us for the four days were here.When we check in, Theresa is running the show from the front counter is always nice when dealing with our loud and somewhat sober group. The course is clean, laid out well, and challenging on some holes. The course has a decent amount of holes with water and there always a beverage cart roaming the course so you don't become dehydrated. Rooms are average, clean with a tube tv that some people bitch about. I don't know why your watching tv when you could be shooting 36 holes a day and drinking at night, especially at the low rates they give you for a round of gold. The bar is held down by Eric who is serving up very heavy poured jack and cokes in my glass while I meet some interesting locals and travelers from the tri-state area. Drinks are very very well priced (did i say very) and they had a few 70 inch tv's behind the bar and other 40 something inch tv's on the other walls. Stayed in the rooms for wedding. Very convenient location especially when attending with kids. However, was quite possibly one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in. We were told the room had 2 queens which actually was 2 fulls (very different). The beds were so unbelievably squeaky. We considered moving the beds to the floor, but after my husband walked around without socks for a few minutes and his feet were black.. we opted against that. If we weren't staying for a wedding I would have packed up and left to go to a different hotel. Room was dusty, extremely out of date, no black out curtains (not a big deal but the parking lot was right outside our window and car lights kept blasting right in and also offers zero privacy), and the beds didn't even have fitted sheets on them. As one that travels with everything she needs I wasn't upset to find no hair dryer, no iron, and no shampoo/conditioner. A fridge was requested, but it was not brought in until after we checked in and it took all weekend to get cold. There were also small, dead spiders inside along with small cobwebs. The wedding space was beautiful though. read more

I golfed Coachman's for my first time today. I wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping for a great course, but heard some people say it was just okay. After my round, I would say it landed somewhere in the middle. We had a tee time just after noon on Friday. It was pretty busy, but that never really had an effect on our round, thankfully. We started off on the "Blue" nine. This set of holes was decent, but not fantastic. It probably didn't help that my tee shots were horrible. I though it was odd to have two par-3 holes back-to-back. The rough was pretty sparse and dry, causing a lot of bounce and roll on errant shots. Sometimes that was okay, but other times it just let your ball carry into a hazard. Additionally, that's a tough lie to hit off of. The "White" nine was better, I thought. While I shot better, I still thought this set of holes was better. The rough was more what you would expect (thick grass). For both sets of holes, the greens, I felt, played pretty fast. Greens seemed to be quite small, or very tilted. The sand felt very nice, but somehow it was tough to hit out of. Not sure how that works - maybe we were just having a bad day, but none of us had one good shot out of the sand! If you golf the greater Madison area, I would describe this course as Tumbledown Trails meets Kestrel Ridge. This would be an excellent place to bring a larger group (bachelor party, for example). They seem very willing and able to handle big groups. If you're looking for a fun time and a decent course, this fits the bill. If you're looking for a top-notch course with fantastic views and amazing grounds, you should pay more and go somewhere else. I will return here, but for the right deal. I think the going rate today would have been $42/each for 18 holes with a cart. I don't think I would pay that - thankfully we got an online deal for less than that. read more

I don't even know where to start. I've been coming here for damn near 20 years with pretty much the same group of guys and that in and of itself should say plenty. The lasting memories that have been made (and many forgotten) and experiences had, has been unbelievable. This place always has good food. From appetizers to main dishes, it's great. Always recommend getting a side of the garlic Parmesan ranch. It's excellent. The golf course itself is also nice. Monday's is a deal day. 9 holes walking for $10. Just can't beat that. read more

This is for the resort and restaurant. I didn't get a chance to golf. The rooms in the resort smell like they haven't been used for a very long time. There was dust everywhere - caked on our lamp, on the pillows, etc. Our coffee maker had old grinds in it that had molded from previous use. When we turned on the fireplace, the whole room filled with the smell of burnt dust. The toilet continuously broke. Whenever I went to the front desk to ask a question about the surrounding area, I was told to Google it on my phone. The restaurant is dark, and smells like my great aunt's apartment (she used to smoke a lot). Not exactly the type of place you'd want to eat in. Also, the food is overpriced and lackluster. During part of our stay, a wedding took place on the greens. THAT part of the resort was beautiful. It was like we were in a different resort altogether. The food was good and the staff was incredibly friendly. It just sucked to then have to leave that tented off area to return to our dingy rooms. With that said, the people who came to golf seemed to be having a great time. So, if you're here just to golf and don't need clean amenities - it's a cheap place to stay! read more

This is a cheap truck stop motel with a golf course attached. The front desk staff seemed somewhat annoyed by our arrival, like they were overwhelmed by a party of four. The rooms look like something you'd see as a crime scene backdrop on CSI. The golf course itself is ok. Groomed well. The most challenging terrain was on the tee boxes. The course starters have no idea what they're doing, so play is often slow. This is a great place to go if being homeless is your only other option. Homeless golfers would love this place! read more

This review is for the restaurant only (it does not have its own website): If you are looking for attentive service so that you can get back on the highway, forget it. They are staffed by high-school aged girls (at least that is the appearance) or old timers that move slow. The food can be above average, but not anything worthy of a call out. It's a typical Wisconsin supper club with many locals leisurely dining and drinking, which is fine if that is what you are looking for. Not many other choices in the area. read more

The course itself is 2 1/2 stars. We had a 20-man 2-day golf tournament in October and decided to settle hear. We paid $240 each for 4 rounds and 2 nights with a day of breakfast and dinner included. It is in the middle of nowhere and the closest Walmart is 15 miles away. The course is pretty open with only 1 or 2 challenging holes. I will give separate reviews on the course and housing facility. The course: There are 3 par-9 courses. 1 of them was not challenging so we stuck with the other 2 for all 4 rounds. The pros: The greens are in great shape with no discoloration or many ball marks. I could not tell if they are true because the greens were 75% complete from aireration. The cons: The greens are super slow, probably the slowest I've every played. This could be a pro or con for others. It only slopes down from the top so not a lot of undulation. The slope rating for the course is 117, which is pretty easy. Fairways are very wide and rough is...well.. not so rough. Housing: 4 stars. The pros: The staff is very nice, laid back, and accommodating. They will send something back to you if you forget it there. The food is surprisingly pretty good with a great menu that includes seafood and prime rib. The cons: The facility was a bit antiquated with 19" tube TVs, blow dryers upon request only, foam soap dispensers in shower only, and 70's-style motif. But you get what you pay for. I'd come back here if the course was more challenging. Every room has sliding glass doors leading right to the course so you can drive your cart to it and pick up your bags. 3 1/2 stars overall. read more

We 5, just experienced the worst fish fry ever! The fried perch was soggy and the citrus cod wasn't even close to being cooked! 3 of the 5 dinners were sent back and 18 minutes later, after eating the salad, green beans, the cod finally returned and it still did not taste right. It is not the waitresses fault. The owner needs to be on the premises to face the music, and keep an eye on the kitchen. read more

First off the golf course saved the weekend. We did a total of 45 holes over two days and had a great golfing experience. This course is above par. Now the downside and why I have them a 2 star. The resort side is a little sketchy. They are stuck in the 1980's and most clientele are elderly retirement folks. This place reminds me of a roadside motel you would likely pass up. Our room was disgusting. It smells like R Kelly's sheets (piss) and the bathroom was out of the movie Saw. My wife would NEVER stayed if she came along. The AC in my friend room didn't work well either. This place has potential, but as I write this I hope there are plans to update it. If this is done we may come back. read more

Was recommended this place. Waitress was very nice. They had Prime Rib dinner and Prime Rib Buffet. We decided on buffet because waitress said it was same Prime Rib. Sad to say Prime Rib was so plain and Draft Spotted Cow was flat. Then I go into washroom and watch blonde bartender walk out of stall, with phone in hand, and walks straight out of the bathroom, without even washing her hands. Saturday night special $25 a person. All You Can Eat Prime Rib Buffet at the Coachman's Golf Resort Restaurant. What a rip off! I have never before had prime rib sliced paper thin. When members of our party asked for another slice, they were told to come back when they finished what we were given. The menu says "an assortment of entrees and side dishes, mini salad bar, and assorted cheesecake deserts". Reality was the "assortment of entrees and side dishes" were really one steam tray each of stir-fried vegetables, potatoes, mac & cheese, dried fried chicken, Bar-B-Q pork and hardened dinner rolls in a napkin covered basket. The "mini salad bar" is accurately described as "Mini" but has a ways to go to call itself a salad bar. The "assorted cheesecake deserts" were really cherry pie, banana cake and 3 layer chocolate and white cake. There was nothing that resembled cheesecake. Rude treatment, average food quality and their famous innovate "paper thin Prime Rib" all for $25 a person. The ambiance is somewhat elegant, but smells of old mold and mildew. Stay away from this one!! read more

If I could give a 0 star rating I would. First let's start out with the fact the rooms are old as dirt and smell like it too. They aren't cleaned properly (ie:cob webs all over hair in the shower! Or not cleaned at all) and the prices they charge for rooms is laughable for what you get. I understand there big draw is the golf course which looks very nice. Management got an attitude when issues were taken up with them (ie: air conditioner not working, key not opening door to room). Would not recommend staying at this hotel, unless you like musty smelling rooms and getting treated like crap. I'm usually not one to complain or expect the world for nothing, I work in customer service but this was just down right unacceptable. The manager or owner did the nice voice but was being a total b*tch about it. That's not good business! read more

I had a group of 20 guys that went on a 3 day 3 night golf trip there. The food was very good. The service at the restaurant and bar was great. The hotel room and amenities were clean and simple. However I went there to play golf. The experience was not so good. We went in July and the weather was HOT. It was in the 90s and 100s most of our time there. The fairways were wattered and looking good. The rough was dead and hardpan. The golf course had a cart path only rule that was strictly enforced. This is the first time in my 40+ years of golf experience where I have seen a golf course say cart path only because THERE HAS NOT BEEN RAIN?!! On some holes where we hit drives way off the fairway we would drive our cart over. Reason being it was a super long walk and it was so hot out we wanted to stay cool and conserve energy. Well the golf course rangers would drive up to us and strongly tell us to keep our carts 100% on the path. There were even times when 1 wheel from my cart was on the grass and the rangers would drive out of their way to tell me to keep my cart on the path. 1 freaking wheel was on the grass and the rangers treat us like children and say we will get kicked off the course if we continue to do that. Everybody that golfed that weekend in my group, locals, and people with other groups were incredibly angry with the course. We asked the course why cart path only when there has not been rain for weeks and they said that driving carts on the grass kills the grass when there has not been any rain! I worked as a golf caddy and in the pro shop at golf courses for 15 years. Never have I ever heard that driving on dry grass will kill the grass. Also the employees were out there driving around the course and grass but they wouldnt let us. One worker was even driving his pickup truck on the course. So the golf employees and golf superintendent are hippocrits and treated the customers poorly. Who makes 60-70 year old men walk much of the course in 100+ degree heat? COACHMANS DOES! The course is nothing special and very basic so this explanation made no sense and make everybody even more mad. I could see if we were playing Pebble Beach we need to keep our carts on the path, but not this rinky dinky course. The first tee starter was also rude to us and treated us like jerks. We had our trip booked for 9 months. On Saturday of our trip they had another big outing scheduled. Well they tried kicking some of our guys off the course so their outing could play and our guys were on the 15th hole! We had our trip booked before the golf outing however they booked the outing on top of our group and indirectly told us we werent important. The tee starter said it is not my problem they had a gold outing booked on top of our trip. The golf workers there were so arrogant they acted like they were doing us a favor. The customer is always wrong seems to be there mentality. So the only reason I would go back is because others want to play there. If I were in charge of setting up a golf trip I would not go back. So beware if you like to golf and are a regular golfer this place may not treat you the way you want to be treated. Also if you ride on carts when you play, it is risky to book a trip here. When we booked our trip the golf shop never mentioned they have cart path only if the rough is dried out. read more

Just returned from a 'girl's' golf outing at Coachman's. We gave up on the Resort seven years ago, because we thought it was tired and outdated. We decided to give it another try this year in hopes that some remodeling had been done. YUK!! The same bedspreads from our first trip back in 1999 were still on the beds, carpet in rooms is wet & moldy smelling, rooms all smell musty and the beds/mattresses are horrible! Not to mention all the bugs that are in the room, along with rotted wood underneath the sinks. Had the breakfast buffet---cold scrambled eggs, overcooked hashbrowns and not much else left to choose from. Poor presentation. Needless to say our group is very convinced we will never go back. read more
