I'm very picky and I truly enjoyed my stay. The pros: -Really great breakfast and late afternoon snacks -Amazing location -Very nice decor -If parking isn't available onsite, the public (free) parking lot is only a block away. -The staff at the front desk are really just the best -WiFi worked well -A good amount of seating outside to enjoy -Just a few doors away from a small market - It's a block away from the main street. It's nice and quiet (except the day the street cleaners come through but they go through the whole area so you'll hear that in any inn, I imagine) -Bed is comfortable but that depends on personal preference -Bathrooms are very clean. [NOTE: These are not hotel bathrooms. They are more like quaint B&B bathrooms, which makes sense since this is an Inn. So, do not anticipate a giant marble bathroom. Anticipate being happy it's very clean and private.] The cons: -I did not want to leave but it was time and I had to. read more

This was my first stay at Coachman's Inn. At check-in, I was welcomed right away. Karen was very friendly and helpful. I had the ADA room, (#104), and it was very conveniently located to the parking. Loved the heated bathroom floor! Makes a big difference in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning! Afternoon wine and cheese and breakfast buffet were both well appointed and yummy! They did ever right. Warm greeting when we entered, felt very clean and good Covid precautions taken. Gave a wine and cheese welcome basket with two cans of wine, yes cans but drinkable, cheese, fruit, crackers and homemade cookies. Nice fireplace in the room and you place breakfast order before you turn in. In the morning received knock on door, insulated bag with quiche, fruit, the best homemade almond biscuits and coffee. Perfect. Checkin and checkout touch less. Oh, the location cannot be best. Great value for the money. Would definitely return. read more

We love Coachmans Inn! Karen and her staff are amazing! They do a wonderful job to make sure you are right at home. The rooms are cozy and offer a fireplace, fridge, and tv with cable, and of course you can't forget wi-fi! They offer a complimentary breakfast with juice, yogurt, croissant or breakfast sandwich and they have Keurig coffee in the room! The rates are great! We had a lovely stay at the Coachman's Inn in Carmel-by-the-sea! The inn is perfectly located to take advantage of shopping, restaurants and cultural events. (2 blocks from the Sunset Center - which is a wonderful venue) The room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The employees were friendly and helpful. We stayed in room 101 which is a ground level room. Everything was clean and nice, pretty reasonable place for 200/night in Carmel. Great location...parking, allows dogs, little extras (breakfast, popcorn in room) so much convenience for visiting Carmel. Fast forward to the morning of our checkout... Girlfriend taking a shower, she is finishing up and I jump in... I heard something from outside the window, which was open (blinds only partially open) to a maintenance area. As I opened the blinds the rest of the way I was SHOCKED to see someone hiding right next to the window... If there wasn't a screen I could have reached out and grabbed the guy. I almost didn't believe it until I looked out a second time and there he was! Needless to say this was rather disturbing. It was obvious that there was no other reason for him to be there besides spying into the shower through the cracked blinds. Plus, the fact he was hiding there made it pretty obvious. This area is used for some kind of storage, hoses, paint cans, etc.... and is also barb-wired off...so no outside access. When I reported this to the front desk, they said, "oh, we are really sorry that happened." I said that this was something that should be addressed... The lady stated that this must have been someone from the parking lot behind the hotel, because it wouldn't be any of their employees. Given that there is barbed wire, I find this hard to understand. The hotel was very unresponsive in this situation, and only offered to give us a discount...to which I said no thanks. I only asked that they follow up and make sure this doesn't happen again. Overall they didn't seem terribly concerned. I never received a call from the manager or any other type of follow up. I did however file a police report with the Carmel Police, as I would hate to have someone have a similar experience! So, what would have been a 4 star stay, becomes 1 star and NO return to this place. read more

We love this place! The location is the best in town and they actually have a parking lot. So you don't have to keep moving your car! It's awesome. We usually just go down for a weekend and this place is perfect for us! We park and don't get back in the car till we leave. Since it is right in the middle of town we just walk to dinner, walk to the beach, walk to the wine bars, walk around and pop in the galleries. It's the perfect place to call home for the weekend. Plus they have free breakfast and wine hour. It's a total bonus. read more

Came here from a recommendation from a friend. Called for a reservation and they gave us a discounted rate. It's a cute hotel right in downtown Carmel. Walking distance to restaurants and stores. They had a nice spread for breakfast with a yummy French toast and happy hour also. The rooms were clean and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. There is free internet and parking too. We booked this inn because it was located downtown. What we didn't realize was how close it was to ALL of the shops and restaurants, and Carmel Plaza for your morning coffee run. The room DID have a Keurig, and liquid creamer (in the fridge), but if you wanted to get some fancy coffee, it was literally a block away! Also, we brought our 40lb dog Kona, to come stay our 2 nights here. The staff was very friendly, the courtyard was kept well, and the rooms (even though they were dog-friendly), did not smell, were very spacious and most importantly clean! Yes, the 1st floor rooms (they put you in these rooms if you have a dog) do face out to the parking lot, but truthfully, don't be paranoid. If you flip the shades upwards, you can still get a lot of natural light into the room, and nobody can see you! Most guests are not trying to peep at you anyways, they are here to explore beautiful Carmel :) Everything from wine & cheese from 5-7pm, and morning breakfast buffet from 8-10am ( they have hot items now!, scrambled eggs, french toast, bagels, hot oatmeal, cereal, etc) were delightful and plentiful. I really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be recommending my friends & family to this beautiful gem of a property. Also, as an added bonus, they have a free parking lot, mini-fridge+ microwave+ in room jacuzzi tub! Don't forget about the popcorn in the microwave. It's the simple touches that you come to appreciate when you travel often. Thank you to the staff and Karen especially in troubleshooting the Wifi connection! We had a wonderful experience this past weekend at Coachmen's Inn. I hardly ever write reviews but felt that Karen's hospitality deserved to be recognized. I called a few times with questions about rooms and their layout as we were traveling with our 10 month old baby for the first time and trying to accommodate for her naps and early bedtime as best we could. Karen was so helpful. Upon arrival she was inviting and accommodating. Our room was lovely and clean with a great location near downtown. We will definitely stay here again. read more

I was in Carmel for an event at Pebble Beach. Of course I would have loved to stay at the Lodge however the location of the Coachman's Inn was so much more fun. Right in the heart of downtown. Very nice staff, great central location, extremely clean, nice big comfortable sized rooms, free wifi, free parking, free juice & danish in morning. However, for you sound sensitive people, you should ask for the top floor. Walls are pretty thin and the windows face the parking area. Good thing my ears are trained from living in NY to tune things out. I saw construction signs up next door but didn't hear a thing. Stayed Thursday & Friday nights. Hidden gem, my a$$!! This is a suped up Motel 6. The main thing going for it is that it's centrally located, has parking, and doesn't require a two-night minimum, unlike most other places in Carmel. These are the items that sold me, until I checked into the room. I asked for a quiet room. I was put next to the only ice machine in the joint, conveniently located next to our bedroom window. Sweet. If you want basic lodging with thin walls, this will fit the bill, but at $200/night, you might be disappointed at what you get. Clean, comfortable, centrally located with very friendly staff. However, the floors are thin, which means sleeping-in isn't realistic. We had a small family with 2 children staying above us and woke us up at 7am sharp both mornings. 30 to 45 minutes later, the cleaning staff was wheeling around their carts on the walkway above our room. Having our dog with us was nice. And, again, the room was very clean and comfortable. But the noise level is a real turn-off. read more

It is charming and delightful and a fantastic price for a stay in beautiful Carmel. What it has in charm it lacks in noise control and privacy. This place is fantastic if you can sleep through a herd of elephants charging through your room. But f you need absolute quiet? Find another place. We could hear the man below us snoring...it bled trough the FLOOR BOARDS. Yikes. Privacy is alright if you like staying in a very dark room because your wall that looks out on the parking lot is the only wall with windows and it's COVERED in them. Continental breakfast: good!! And they bring it to your room! So, all in all, would I stay here again? Not by first choice. But our experience wasn't bad either. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Coachman's Inn. The staff was very friendly and the inn had a welcoming feeling. Another perk is that it is one of the few inns that serves a hot breakfast, including eggs, which will fuel you for the day. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the evening wine and cheese reception was very nice. You can tell the management puts a lot of heart into their business operations. My room (#202) was very nice and came with two robes and a hairdryer, ironing board, etc. The linens were very nice and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The room decor was very nice and there was plenty of storage space. In general, the wifi worked well, but a few times I had to reboot - maybe because I had multiple devices running. The inn is perfectly situated in the town of Carmel, slightly tucked away from the crowds on Ocean Avenue, but close enough to everything including Carmel Plaza. There is a Wells Fargo, small supermarket, and liquor store nearby, in addition to numerous shops and tasting rooms. The Scheid tasting room down the street will give you a complimentary flight of wine tastes and 10% off purchases if you are a guest at the Coachman's Inn. Parking may be a slight challenge but that is the case for many inns in Carmel. When I arrived in the early evening, I had to park on the street, but then a spot opened up, and then I did not move my car until I left. There is plenty of street parking (2 hour rules apply; overnight parking permitted) and a municipal lot nearby too. If you arrive close to check in time (3pm) you probably won't have an issue. We stayed here for the weekend. To no fault of the hotel, the power was out in the entire city of Carmel on Saturday, February 2. The manager, Karen, was great during the entire time. She offered to cancel the reservation for us or relocate us to a different hotel in nearby Pacific Grove and have our price honored. We decided to stay. Karen did everything she could to make the remaining guests as comfortable as possible considering that there was no electricity. She went out and bought flashlights and candles for everyone. She even extended happy hour until 10 P.M. (was supposed to end at 6 P.M.) for the guests who stayed so we can stay by the fire in the common room and continue to snack and drink at the hotel's expense. The place was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast and happy hour was as expected and advertised. The staff couldn't have been any friendlier or more helpful. The only thing that kept me from giving the Coachman's Inn five stars is that they could make a few cosmetic improvements. But there is a reason that this is one of the more affordable places to stay in Carmel. We would stay there again without any hesitation. read more

We have stayed in numerous hotels in the area. We decided that we would try Coachman's Inn this time. WOW!!!There were no negatives. First off, the rooms are clean,comfortable, well appointed. We loved having a fireplace. I have never seen a staff that works so hard. I observed the cleaning staff, maintenance and landscapers working hard all day long. The breakfast buffet that is offered each morning was more than I expected, egg casserole, oatmeal, ham slices, fruit bowl, a variety of breads, bagels, english muffins with many choices for toppings that included peanut butter. In the afternoon they offered wine, cheese, hummus and veggies. They also offer a cookie jar should you need a treat. It is located right in town, across the street from the only grocery store and in the center of all the shops and restaurants. There is parking on the property, no hunting for a parking spot. My boyfriend, 2 dogs and I stayed here over the Easter weekend and found it to be very pleasent. It was a last minute idea to go and stay in Carmel. So I called several hotels which were either booked or too $$$, but then we came accross Coachmans Inn. They offered a great price. You do pay extra for the dogs to stay, but it wasn't too bad and well worth it. If you know Carmel, you know there is not much parking and this place has it's own little parking lot. I noticed a lot of other inn's don't even have that. They put out (free) fresh baked cookies and have a cont. breakfast in the morning. The staff was very poilte and helpful with any questions we had. It's also located right off the main strip so it's in walking distance of everything even the beach if you don't mind a slight uphill hike on the way back. Know that we know of this little inn, we will definitly be staying again when we go up for the night! read more

Don't miss this hidden gem!!! I'd never discount another's experience, but I think you ought to have enough information to make an informed decision. I've been going to Carmel for tens of years and here's why this place rates TOPS on my list for staying there. 1. It's centrally located in town, a block and a half from the main road. Shop the town, get some food, hit your room for short siesta, and get back out there, it's all easy since they're so well located. 2. Charming rooms and staff! They're constantly improving their rooms and offerings to their guests. The staff is SO nice and they really want you to enjoy Carmel and have a relaxing stay. The rooms are in sync with the quaint feel of the town but don't let that translate to old stuff in the rooms. It's all top notch, bedding and linens are great! 3. They've got their OWN parking!!! If you've never been to Carmel, be prepared, the parking is awful. That is, unless you like hiking blocks in from your car, and/or paying the meters every 2 hour. The Coachman's has their OWN parking for you, right there, and half of them are even covered! This is practically unheard of in Carmel and worth every penny for not having to worry about this. 4. It's animal friendly! Check with them about rooms they've reserved for those with pets. 5. Free wireless internet! And it's fast. Beats having to pay an internet charge! And they have an internet room and printer where you can print out your flight reservations. 6. The place is also frequented by celebrity golfers, actors and performers. There's a reason they keep coming back and I've given you several. This place is one of those nicely kept secrets that I always recommend to all my friends. Here is my experience: I am searching for hotels for a friend's wedding. I walk in as the phone is ringing and I politely say to Crystal at the front desk that she can get the phone and talk to me afterwards. She doesn't even look at me picks up the phone and talks to the other person, giving them directions for about three minutes without looking up or making any effort to apologize or to acknowledge my presence. I get tired of waiting and begin to walk through the hotel taking a look at the area and the rooms since the woman at the front desk seems like she might be a while. I'm stopped by Karen, the manger, and she asks me what I'm doing there, and I tell her. She says come to the front desk and we can talk. As I'm walking back I feel the call of nature and so I try to go into the restroom. Karen stops me and says that the restroom is not for public use. I balk at this stating that I'm hoping to talk to them about reservations and asking if it's a problem if I use the restroom. She says the restroom is not for public use and I reiterate. I'm getting offended at this point and ask her if it's because of what I look like (I'm wearing jeans and a T-shirt) that she questions my place. This is no way to treat a potential customer. I understand that they must get people wandering in off of the street, and I still think they profiled me for being in my late 20's and dressing casually. This place looks nice, but for them to profile me like that is unacceptable. We will not be staying with them. We will find a spot that understands that customers come in all shapes, sizes, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, dress code, etc. read more

Would I stay her again? Would not be my first choice because of the windows...see below. Why 4 stars? The hotel is well run, Karen wants to ensure that her guests are happy and makes every effort to do so. Case in point. When we went to our room we quickly realized that because the only window in the room was on the common walkway, our every move would be on display for all to see. Being a bit claustrophobic and not wanting to be exhibitionist made the window on the walkway very inconvenient. Karen was willing to move some other reservations about to move us to one of the few rooms that had a window on the street side. This, of course, comes with its own set of issues, but for us it was much better than being on display. There is parking, but not enough for all of the guests. We parked on the street or nearby lot most of the time. There is no elevator. So if carrying your bags up and down stairs would be an issue, make sure to request a first floor room. Security. The housekeeping staff does a very good job, but I was taken aback when I saw housekeepers leave rooms open and unattended to run to another floor to fetch more towels or something. I understand the need to leave the door open when they are in the room but if they leave the room it seems the door should be shut and locked. The grounds are lovely. There are flowers everywhere with a couple of courtyard areas to share a glass of wine. The location is fantastic, right in the middle of town...walk everywhere. It is very near a great market/deli (Nielsen Market) and good coffee (Carmel Coffee and Cocoa Bar). Quiet. I don't know if it is because the building is older or just better built, but this place is quiet. We did not hear our neighbors moving about in their rooms, talking, flushing toilets...nothing. read more

Eh, it's ok. Will we come again? MAYBE, but only if it's another BOGO night free deal. Definitely not worth $325/night. Very friendly staff, yummy afternoon cookies, nice TV, cozy bed, and very convenient place to stay for strolling around town and trying lots of different restaurants. Also close drive to Scenic Rd which was a great walk. Breakfast was disappointing. It's so expensive to stay here, you would think the croissant could have more than a sliver of ham. I almost went to find someone to ask for the ham and cheese croissant thinking they brought the plain one by accident. Also, very small croissant. Breakfast also came with honey nut Cheerios... Awesome except my husband is allergic to tree nuts. Wish there was another option. Yogurt and OJ were good. Very noisy at times. I guess we picked construction season, garbage day, and ambulance siren day. Not enough parking if you come at a busy time. Fortunately we were ok, but it was getting crowded and people were double parking. Our tub was nice, sort of... I had to hold the drain up to drain it after use. There are a few cosmetic flaws in the room that take away from the experience. Poorly patched ceiling by the TV, moldy looking metal in the tub, and idk what to say about the closet ceiling but yeesh! I have stayed at other Four Sisters and was hoping for the same exquisite experience. This wasn't quite what we were hoping for but not bad for BOGO deal. read more

The location is great. It does have a descent hot tub. Rooms are small but clean. We were having a great time till my daughter fell down and hit her head on the tub. A minute later a lady claiming to be the manager bangs on the door. She claims to want to know what the noise is all about. I had no idea what she was talking about since I was just relaxing on the sofa . She goes on to reprimand me about keeping the noise down. It was 8:50 pm and we just got back from dinner at 8:30 pm. I had very little patience about getting lecture from this lady without the courtesy off at least an explanation what was going on. Very rude. Not concerned at all that my daughter fell and felt the need to blame me for her falling and crying. Never been that offended in 40 years of travel . Just a quaint little spot in the tiny town of Carmel! The decor makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. We got a room with a fireplace. The staff is really friendly and professional. Highly recommend! Location is excellent, one block off Ocean Ave. Walking distance to shopping, art galleries, and restaurants. Room was large with comfy King bed, 2 wing chairs, and gas fireplace. It was on cool side when we visited so fireplace was nice for both heat and ambiance. Parking is on site. Wine, cheese, and other goodies from 4 to 6 with a nice fireplace in the hospitality room. Breakfast was very nice with a different hot egg dish each morning, usually one with and one without meat. There is also a nice selection of breads, toast, bagels, scones,hot and cold cereals etc. We never felt the need to seek a restaurant for breakfast. read more

Had a 3 night stay in Room 105, bottom floor in a dark corner. Room was good sized, easy to work electric fireplace, nice bathroom vanity, room was pretty clean. I lysol wiped all touching points upon arrival and was glad I did. Breakfast is typical Sysco food but is a nice touch. They start delivery at 8am, and it was always on time. It was not busy in town so parking was not a problem however there are more rooms than parking so be warned. Parking in CBTS is a hot commodity. The location is great if you like short walks to restaurants and shops. It is right in town. However, if you are looking at being closer to the beach, it is quite a walk on the way back, uphill. Being in town you will not be sleeping in if your room is on the street side. Delivery trucks, street sweepers and garbage trucks start around 7am or sooner. As others have said, walls are thin, could hear our neighbor snoring. I felt like I was sleeping with a stranger. HA. Both mattresses we had were so BAD, very lumpy, springy, dippy, painful ever. Very worn old broken down mattress. Was like sleeping on a military cot with springs and tarps. We just returned last night and I am getting a massage tomorrow for my back. I would definitely return to this hotel IF they purchase new mattresses but only when I need to be close to town. All staff were friendly, helpful, accommodating. read more
