The short answer is that everything was great about this place. The bathroom was clean. The dining area was clean. The menus, everything was clean! Cleanliness is next to godliness, you know? My server, Sequoia, was so warm and hospitable. And how can you not be with a dope name like that? Nodding to the nation's founders and such. Sequoia flashed a genuine smile, while making eye contact, and made sure that my dining experience was awesome. I can tell when they're faking pleasantries. Sequoia was genuinely a great server. The food? The pizza was pleasantly surprisingly superb! I say surprisingly because I tend to keep my expectations low when dining in a new restaurant (new to me, that is). The pizza was so good, I went ahead and swallowed my pride, and then swallowed the entire pizza. One slice at a time, of course. Yes, single-handedly. All 12 inches. I don't care. It was that good. The martini was ! Spectacular! And thank you, Sir or Madam Bartender, for adding the correct amount of spirits. The cake was delicious! My first time trying it. The fruit this time was strawberries--yum, yum, yum! Swing by and treat yourself to some Coals Pizza if you haven't already. You're welcome.

Coal's Pizza - All Hype, No Heat We waited over an hour for a table (after being told it was 30)--so naturally, we assumed greatness was coming. Then we waited another 10+ minutes for a server, who showed up just long enough to let us know they weren't particularly thrilled to be there. Not rude, just impressively indifferent. We ordered four pizzas. One half were only okay, the other half... well, also okay if you enjoy pizza that tastes like it gave up halfway through. I wanted to like it. It should've been a great place to have za with the boys. Instead, it was a masterclass in unmet expectations. Coal's has the look, but not the follow-through. Disappointment, served hot

Coals is our favorite local pizza joint. The pizzas are always amazing. You can't go wrong with a salad or app. The service is fantastic. The restaurant has multiple seating areas, we love the bar.

Consistently delicious! Always a great spot when craving pizza. Great patio space during warmer months, too.

Wine down Mondays menu. You can save on dozens of bottles of wine on Mondays with the many specials that Coals has to offer.

Great atmosphere even better wings. I come to coals every Wednesday for whiskey Wednesdays. Best bourbon drink specials you can get.

Coal's artisan pizza is a pizza establishment with a few locations throughout the city of Louisville. This particular location is in the Saint Mathews portion of the city in a small shopping center off Frankfort ave. As someone who is a pizza fanatic and loves to support and check out all pizzerias in the city I hadn't actually been to a coals yet until the other night. Reason being is I'm not a huge gourmet pizza or as I call it "fancy pizza" fan and prefer large pies instead of personal style thin 12 inch style pizzas. So despite coals having a long time foot print in the city I've always passed on them. I finally decided to give them a shot the other night when picking up my oldest daughter from practice. It was Ash Wednesday night and I had already had fish for lunch so to stick with the "no meat" stipulation I said "let's get some cheese pizza". Then I saw coals with a nearby location to her practice event and thought "a gourmet pizza may give us plenty of non meat pizza choices". So off we went. This particular location has a very lovely patio area. And despite being the beginning of March we actually had 70 degree temps. So on This daddy/daughter date I let my daughter make the choice of indoor or patio dining. She chose patio. So we took a seat outside. The inside was actually kinda smaller but had a nice low light vibe and upscale looking full scale bar. After getting situated outside we decided to place an appetizer order for a Herb and Cheese Flatbread. We both decided on two pizzas to try and share. All the pizzas are named after neighborhoods and communities in the city of Lousiville. We went with the St. Mathews (ironic considering that's where this location is) and a Anchorage pizza. The St Mathews pizza is just a plain ole Margherita pizza with cheese and basil. The Anchorage pizza is a lobster with cream sauce pizza. The flatbread came out rather quickly as did the pizza. Actually they came out almost at same exact time. The flatbread app was very tasty. Had a great cheese flavor and the oven cooked crust was top notch. Had some grease but not too much. Just enough to make it good. The St. Mathews pizza was pretty good. Not the best Margherita pizza I've had but definitely suffice. Sauce had nice flavor. The Anchorage pizza was phenomenal. Very good pizza that had fresh tasting lobster and a flavorful and great cream sauce. I had every intention of just trying one slice of that and sticking with my flatbread app and St. Mathews pizza for my main course. But me and her ended up splitting the Anchorage pizza evenly and finishing it in one sitting. The rest of the Margherita pizza and flatbread made for a nice lunch the following day. Overall it's a shame I hesitated for so long on this place. Very good pizza with good service and a nice vibe. I'll absolutely be back to this and it's other locations to get the full coals artisan experience throughout the city.

I got the Mango-Colada Sour, and this was delightful. It seems like Butchertown Brewing really excels at sours, fruit beers and fun concoctions. So if you're not afraid to "fruit the beer," this is a good place to check out. They also have seltzers, hard sodas and more typical beer offerings. And while it is small, you can still easily find food. It's right across the Mellwood Art Center courtyard from Danny Mac's Pizza (my all-time favorite Louisville pizza spot!). And you can order via Danny Mac's website and choose to get it delivered to Butchertown Brewing. You don't even have to leave your chair to get delicious pizza! The sushi was fresh and stacked--an excellent serving. I particularly liked my Spicy Storm: tempura salmon, jalapeno, cucumber with spicy crab and avocado, eel sauce, and wasabi sauce on top. Nice kick, cooled off by the crab and avocado. Great crunch, as well! The sleeper win was the cheesesteak. I went with chicken, which I rarely do. At first bite, I was a little confused, because the flavor isn't the Philly style I'm used to. I realized there were bits of bacon (says that on the menu-whoops), but it didn't over power the flavor, it add almost a sweet smokiness. And their beer cheese? SO GOOD.

The event was for a Kermit Lynch paired wine dinner in partnership with the neighboring Wine Rack business. All of the food items were fresh, flavorful, and creative. Our first course was a Red Hog pâté on house made brioche, second course field greens with many locally sourced ingredients, third course Fischer Farms pork product, and finally a cheese course with honeycomb that capped off a stellar dining experience. Service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. Very friendly and personable, which was also refreshing. We were also appreciative that the wine reps and managers stopped by each table briefly to answer any questions and provide further info. Restaurant seating includes indoor and outdoor covered and uncovered spaces. Communal tables and individual seating at tables or counter height options, as well as bar seating overlooking the open kitchen concept. The chefs and staff appeared to be a well oiled machine and produce quite a demonstration while in the trenches. Noise level can be moderately high when restaurant is at capacity with happy diners. Lunch menu was a little pricey but we figured this meat must be amazing to have these prices. First the cocktails. Pricey at $15 a pop. We tried two that sounded pretty different the Spanish Pipe Dream and bourbon based Velvet Goldmine and they were just ok and kind of tasted way too similar. These were supposedly on the sweeter side but I'd give them a 6/10. We tried the $17 dry aged burger with an additional $2 charge for fries and it was pretty good but after all the hype it similar to all smash burgers. The dry age flavor really wasnt there. Bun was standard brioche type, not toasted. Good burger but nothing special though. I did enjoy the sauce and toppings giving. It a unique sweet flavor. 6/10 but just go to Toastys for a similar cheaper one with way better fries. The fries were disappointing. Soggy, floppy, zero seasoning and salt on the. Tasted like the oil they were fried in and that's it. Not the best. 5/10 Turkey club. 8/10. $18 with no sides. The bread and sauce really do 99% of the work because taste wise the turkey was not discernable from supermarket deli turkey. The bread is a delicious oven baked pizza crust folded over and the sauce combo tastes like a Cesar salad. I highly recommend this , it's a simple but amazing sandwich, but it at this price point for salad and turkey on pizza crust it really should have a side. Service was 2/10, non existant. Took 1.5 hours to get out of there because of how it took 20 minutes to order and another 20 just to get our drinks, and our server was busy with tables outside so we didn't see her until we were asking for our checks. Overall the food was good, drinks just ok, but the hype this place gets , at least for lunch, along with the service is grounds for dissapointment.
