If I could give Coast Dental and Dr. Maddocks less than a 1 star, I would. When I moved here from the Monterey Peninsula 8 weeks ago, I was mailed a postcard that stated, "Coast Dental Welcomes You.".... "Coast Dental wants to help make choosing a new dentist easy."... and "Caring and affordable dentistry." Under Dr. Maddocks' picture is the quote: "Hi, I'm Dr. Maddocks! I look foward to meeting you in person." What a juxtaposition!!! My new neighbor referred me to Dr. Maddocks. I called yesterday to see if he had just one minute so I could meet him. I was told that if I wanted to meet him I would have to schedule an appointment and PAY TO MEET HIM. I explained that I was a professional woman who had just move to the area, and all I wanted was 1 minute of his time to meet him. I explained that, as an educated person, I would never choose a Dr. of any kind, prior to meeting him or her. I was succinctly and rudely told told I had to PAY to do that. Amazed that an office that totes so much "welcome" to people who have just moved here acts like this. Very unprofessional. Apparently Dr. Maddocks needs money more than new patients.... or a good reputation! This encounter with this office is less than acceptable! I give Dr. Maddocks and his staff less than a 1 star. Very professional and friendly family dentist. They do a great job making the kids feel comfortable, do thorough work, and I always get an informative back brief from the dentist on how their teeth are doing. A great plus is that they don't try to upsell with unnecessary procedures; I've run into that at other dentists and it always eroded my trust when they are recommending unnecessary filings or other procedures. read more

I hate going to the dentist but this has been a pleasant experience. The dentist is kind and very informative. He spoke directly to my son about his care which I thought was pretty cool because he's 17 and will be in charge of handling his own dental care soon. I needed to get a crown and I was pouring out off because I thought it would be crazy expensive but the price here is very reasonable. Did I mention how cool and kind everyone was? So weird to be giving a dental office a 5 star review but it's the truth. After having tons of dental work done as a child and then having bad experiences as an adult I quit going to the dentist. I hadn't went in years, like 10 or so I think. I then found myself needing to go and ended up picking Coast Dental. I am so happy that I did. I have now been going to Dr. Maddocks for years. He does an excellent job and is honest and up front with you. All the employees here are friendly and work with you to get your goals accomplished. I have been trying to get in touch with the front desk personnel for months now in regards to a $300.00+ charge on my credit card and have been unsuccessful despite me calling more than 10 times. The call center will certainly schedule you to make an appointment and take more of your money but no one is ever available to answer the phone. Went into the office with a painless tooth. It had a problem, but it was far from the nerve. DDS said so many times. Was then advised to get a crown. Did it, per DDS advice. Now experiencing discomfort with each sip of a drink. Only fix is a root canal, but tooth is not so damaged for that procedure. So I'm placed in a position where I must endure the bad crown job until I find a good dentist. read more

Well, we have a different dentist than Coast Dental. But our dentist was on vacation and the two recommended back up dentists were to busy to take us (even with an emergency) and no further help from the office staff. My lower front tooth broke below the gum line (very visible) and an extraction and root canal was necessary. Horrible pain. Coast Dental was recommended by our daughter (they just switched to Coast from our dentist) so as a last hopeful effort, I called them hoping for an emergency appointment. WOW, they set up the appt for early the next morning. It ended up taking 3 hours which was very much expected. They were extremely professional, caring, and experienced in the work. So glad they could take me on such short notice. The pricing was fair and the work was excellent. Really appreciated the last minute appointment. Well, we will be switching dentists over to Coast Dental as well. read more

Dr. Maddocks and his staff are the best. Before I came to this office, I was quoted $5,000 worth of "dental work" at an office in Vista. When I decided to get a second opinion after moving to Oceanside, Dr. Maddocks offered to me a great deal without knowing I was shopping around. All the necessary repairs and upkeep I needed was about $1800. Coast Dental also included a crown I was not told I needed at the other place AND a future deep cleaning. Might I add the other office forced me to watch a video about veneers, yet my teeth are perfectly straight, without decay. Dr. Maddocks always reflects what alterations he sees need to be made or looked after closely on the tv screen located on the ceiling. It definitely gives you that assurance that the repairs are necessary or what to expect in the following check-ups. EXTREMELY professional. I've been coming here for 8 years now and I'll never trust anyone else with my precious teeth. Melissa at the front desk is great. Always helpful. I recently started going to Dr. Maddocks and the very friendly dental hygienist team at Coast Dental after years of zero cavities (never had one!) and perfect "reviews" from all my dentists. I got a very thorough cleaning and Dr. Maddocks identified that I have a nighttime tooth grinding problem - I was horrified, but luckily they were able to get me fitted for a night guard at the same visit... now, after so many years of no issues for my teeth, I was very skeptical. I went back and looked at my chipped teeth in photos over the years and yes, it had been going on for a long time and was MISSED by other dentists. When I still have teeth in my skull in 10 years, I have Dr. Maddocks to thank!! I just walked into Coast Dental, Oceanside, to meet them and set up an appointment. A receptionist and a female doctor [website says there is only one doctor, Maddocks] were talking and didn't acknowledge me at all. I stood about 3 feet from them while the doctor told the receptionist about how files should be set up and the problems of how things are being done, etc. etc. I stood there for almost two minutes, directly facing the doctor and they never stopped talking about the problems in the office! Didn't even say we'll be with you in a moment. It seemed of no concern that I was listening to their "dirty laundry", so I left with no acknowledgement from either of them. Dr. Maddocks is brilliant with all ages! My family and I have been coming to see him and his team for ten years, and we have never left in pain or disappointed. His equipment is top-notch - I love the 360 degree x-ray and that they have nitrous oxide available if you are a nervous dental patient.
