I have had a cornea transplant in both eyes and have had a very hard time getting my vision to a good spot. I have been to a few Dr's to try to find a contact that could not only fit my eye but give me great vision. Well the staff and Dr Blaze are so good they got it right on the second try! I was so amazed at how well I could see I didn't want to take it out! Unfortunately the contacts that work are extremely expensive but Dr Blaze did everything he could to make them affordable. I've worn glasses since I was 9 and contacts since 13. I have astigmatism, dry eyes, macular degeneration, a detached retina and have had PRK (pre-LASIK). I'm also on glaucoma watch. There's probably more that I've just forgotten lol! Needless to say, I need an eye doctor who's well versed across the board. I was referred to Dr Blaze around 2000?? (it was def a while ago!) He's been the ONLY Dr who's been able to figure out what exactly is the best corrective lens (which btw are those huge orbital lenses) and an absolute EXPERT in fitting them. I can say that with confidence bec I've moved away for work and struggled with Dr's who tried their best but needed months of return visits to get the right lens/fit whereas Dr Blaze can do it in a couple hours! I live in San Diego but will not hesitate to make the trip to Huntington Beach so Dr Blaze can continue to take care of my eyes! He's the ABSOLUTE BEST! :) read more

This place suffers because of the staff. I have never visited any medical facility anywhere with such poor staff. The two desk women are so rude and unhelpful it's amazing they were able to find even this meager level of employment. They are either unwilling, or unable to provide even a basic level of service without an awful attitude. Dr. Blaze is fine but he could pick two random people off the street and surely they would improve the level of service his desk workers are capable of providing. read more

He is a cornea specialist and contact lense specialist and even makes custom lenses for patients on the second floor of his office. I'm 51 years old, and had never been to an optometrist before, so I chose Dr. Blaze for my first time, and wow what a great experience that was! The assistant (technician), Jessie, was very kind, professional and personable. Dr. Blaze himself is just simply great. Had a great conversation, laughed, etc.... and I almost didn't want to leave the place, lol. I needed glass fairly bad, and they made a pair of prescription glasses right there on the spot! There are so many better practices around, wish I used yelp to check before I went. Exams here are appointment based only, don't even think about walking up and trying to be a walk in as they will rudely snicker at you and say they are booked (even tho it was 11am and not one person was in the waiting room). Oh wells, I made a appointment anyway. I just wanted a basic check up exam, thought this place was close to where I work and thought I could get it done quickly. WRONG. Had my appointment on my day off and got there when they first opened figuring I would get in and out quickly. Got there at 9am, filled out paperwork. Finished paperwork by about 915 am. Then I sat. Saw two other people come in after me and get called in first. Walked up to them and said I thought I was the first person and had the earliest appointment. Apparently they said I wasn't and that there were 3 patients booked at 9am, thats how they do it! Got called in at 945am, put in a room and a young lady (obviously not the doctor) came in and started asking me questions like she was the doctor. Gave her a quick history then did the exam test where they turn off the lights and have me cover my eyes and read the lowest line etc. (Isn't the doctor suppose to do this?) After that she told me to come with her to do some other tests which took 5 minutes, brought me back to the room had me sit and said "the doctor will be right with you". At this point it was about 10am. So I waited.... and waited.. and waited... Now 11:10am, I hear the staff outside during this whole hour + wait and they were joking and talking. I hear the doctor come out once in a while to talk with them about stuff (obviously he is working on another patient, so why book my appointment and make me wait? I understand they are probably trying to be efficient, but this is not very customer service friendly). At 11:20am, I walk outside and ask how much longer do I have to wait, staff rudely says "you are the next patient, please have a seat back in the exam room". At this point I was getting pretty pissed. My day off and I was sitting in a room by myself for hours and PAYING for it! Finally at 11:45am, doctor strolls in. Introduces himself quickly, reads off the things I told the other girl initially, starts doing some tests (1 or 2 this or 1 or 2 that). Told him I only wanted to update my glasses. At 11:57 (I remember as I looked at my watch) the doctor said great your eyes look fine, told me my prescription walked me out of the room, handed me off to another lady and said have a great day. 12 minute Eye exam after a 2.5 hour wait. Followed the staff to the room with the glasses, was told to look around. Very small selection of glasses here, no brand names even that I could tell or recognize. At this point was already pist off, so I just said I will come back another time to pick out my glasses as I didn't want to spend anymore money at this place. I rather take my prescription elsewhere and purchase it from another doctor. They checked me out, gave me my prescription and receipt and was out the door at 12:15pm. 3 hours 15 minutes after my appointment, I finished. Sat in the waiting room 45 minutes Sat in the exam room waiting for 2 hours Saw the doctor a whopping 12 minutes. (spent more time with the staff asking me about my history then the doctor) Experience priceless..Actually it was $20, thank goodness for my insurance. But I can also look at it as $20 to sit in a room for 3 hours. Won't be coming back. read more
