Coast Roast has the best iced coffee I have ever had in 63 years! It's not a bargain, at over $6 for a large 24 oz one. But, it is the only iced coffee that I dream about! Seriously. The breadwinner (or maybe brew-winner, idk if I'm feeling it) for best cold brew coffee I have ever had, and probably will ever have! Still can't quite believe it, just how truly good this coffee was. Don't look to get anything else besides the vanilla cream cold brew, or you will miss out on the experience of a lifetime. Seriously, even if you aren't a sweet fan (I don't like super sweet coffee), this cold brew is so exquisite that it is sweet, yes, but in the way where it perfectly compliments your tastebuds with some sugary vanilla without going over the top, still letting the espresso take the spotlight. Even just the presentation of the dark roast coffee with the cream slowly dispersing into the deeps is so mesmerizing (see video/ pics if not understanding). One person in my party in specific had been to Coast Roast dozens of times before just to have this cold brew. He said anytime they return to New Orlaeans this is a must stop and they will bc one at least once a day every day they are in town. I didn't think there was any chance a coffee could stand up to hype like that. Also, I don't typically like cold brew anyways, so I was pretty unconvinced. Let me be the first to admit I was WRONG. I took one sip and was transported to a land of soft, billowing clouds, pink skies and coffee waterfalls (cold brew, specifically). Wow. I have dreamt of this coffee at least every week since I have been and the daydreams will continue until I can come back. My Americano from here was decent and I have high standards for my espresso. However, I would suggest skipping the pastries (they told me their croissants were from Costco), and the barista told my friend they did pour overs, but actually had no idea how to make one. Used to love this spot, but this morning, the female barista sneezed into her gloved hands and in the direction of the coffee and food multiple times and didn't wash her hands or clean the area. She then blew her nose into a tissue with her gloves on and went right back to handling food and drink without pausing to wash her hands or change her gloves. "meh" is a good descriptor when speaking about the DECAF purchased to get change for the bus recently at Coast Roast coffee, in the St Roch market. Young barista said he didn't have a decaf pour over, so could do a 'special' brew ? "Americano" As I'm dairy free, and he didn't have almond milk, I tried to drink it black. I say 'try' because it wasn't a pleasurable exercise. Appeared to be coffee, but flavour was bitter stale and 'very ordinary' is the highest compliment I can offer. As it was a 'special'? it cost x3 of an ordinary decaf, so 'change for the bus' was a costly experience, and not that pleasurable either. I'd classify the staff as 'professionally courteous', the reasoning behind the 2nd star. Decaf "Americano" on it's own = a weak "1". Not rushing back for an encore. p.s. The coffee is excellent! The morning guy is quiet but very customer friendly! The woman in the morning (who isn't there often) is not. Although not out right rude, she is very standoffish and is very difficult to get more than single syllable answers from. Thankfully the young man that makes my Americano is there most days limiting my interaction with his coworker. I've been coming here on a regular basis now. I've learned that Bob mentioned above is the manager--he's absolutely awesome! There's been some staffing changes (mostly additions), normally with that, there's "bumps" in the road -- that's not the case here. Not sure who's doing the training but they deserve a raise! If you've read my other reviews, you know by now that a hot quad Americano is my go too. This is another place that manages to make it right on point each and every time! Today, I broke tradition and got (voluntarily)...wait for it, a quad iced Americano! Once again, it was point on! Side Note: They did go through a rough weekend twice in one month where I was forced to have their drip coffee because the espresso machine was down (there's more to this story, but I'm not getting into it, I will say that the owner should be proud because every single staff member that dealt with it did so with a good attitude and went above and beyond). I tried 2 different drip coffees, one each time, can't remember which ones. Personally, I was definitely not a fan. One last thing...the young lady I referred in my original review works Tuesday mornings and occasional Saturday's. She's actually super sweet and well informed. I was debating 4 or 5 stars, but lemme tell you about the 5th. It's a unique chai that was blended from scratch when I ordered it, creating such a fresh, potent, flavorful cup of chai that wasn't uncomfortably tangy and never lost its flavor in the entire large cup. I splurged for the local goat milk, which made it slightly thicker and heavier, if you're in the mood for that. The lady behind the counter was very nice, the company sources its coffee one state away in Mississippi, and the stand is in this fantastic market in a non-touristy part of town. I frequent 2 other coffee shops in the area but finally found the contender in town (I know I'm a little slow and late). Hivolt and stump-town is great for the citrus/ tangy note while coast roast brings the nuttiness. Nut more than citrus. That's just me. Like any other vendor at st Roch, there's no designated 'line.' just pop up at the counter and someone will notice you. Most patrons here are mindful and nice so there is also the honor system you can rely on - should there be a pile up. Service was helpful, friendly and quick. The space is confusing and such a lost opportunity. I went at breakfast time on a Monday morning and this was the only shop open in a giant building made up of many booths. There was one person ahead of me and after they were served the barista never acknowledged me. I finally asked for help, asked if I could get breakfast, a crepe that was posted on a nearby menu...was informed that was another booth and they weren't open. Okay... ordered a latte and a premade muffin from the limited offerings in their box. Was okay at best. Such a waste of excellent space, would not recommend. It was the busiest stall in the whole market and she was the only one there, so she could have used some help. I expected what looks like small, boutique coffee house to brew coffee better than Starbucks. I usually drink coffee black, and the coffee here tasted overacted to me. I understanderstand taht Starbucks does this so they can buy poorer quality coffee and not spend as much. I also understand taht a coffee house is a low margin business. Otherwise, the atmosphere is a pleasant porch setting in a beautiful part of town. It is removed sufficiently so as to not allow the busy traffic on Magazine Street to be disruptive to conversation. The service is also courteous and attentive. With better coffee, thsi place could become top tier. I am, admittedly a coffee geek. I buy from a local NOLA raoster, hand-grind my beans and are with a FRenchPress using precise timing. This place is relatively new, and with a little more attention to brewing could become an elite coffee shop. It is located near some boutique shopping, a good hospital, is on a commuting route into town, visible, and so has promise. My favorite local coffee shop is losing due to pandemic pressure, so I am actively exploring for a new go-to play to enjoy coffee and meet new friends. read more

I am an iced coffee addict and I have become somewhat picky in what I like and expect from a tasty brew. I stepped into St. Roch and as soon as I saw the line for Coast Roast, I knew that Joi's review was dead on. I ordered a large iced coffee which came to a reasonable $4.25 or so. I like that their large is actually LARGE. Give me something that is going to last me a while. I added some half and half and what I had was one of the best iced coffees I have ever enjoyed. Nice and rich, strong without making me jittery and bonus points for the ice lasting a long time as I sipped the drink. Seriously- I drove uptown and left it in my car while I went shopping and it was still icey cold when I returned, as if by some sort of iced coffee magic.
