This place is definitely a spot for the specialty coffee enthusiast, as well as those who like the sweeter things. For me, though, my measure of a great coffee shop is: "how's the espresso?" and by that, I mean, straight espresso, nothing added. We ended up visiting Mammoth both before and after our recent cruise, so two visits in eight days, and both times were great. Moving inside the space, the main part of the cafe is modest in size and, as others have mentioned, fairly minimalist in decor, but that's just fine with me. Each day sees at least two espresso choices, some or all of which will be a single origin. I just ordered one of each espresso and when they reached for a sparkling water glass for each, I explained that they were both for me, so I just needed one. I chatted with the barista briefly about the coffees, too. On the first visit, the choices were their house "Workhorse" blend, Double Trouble, and a bright washed Ethiopian, Teferi Kela. The former was a comfortable blend of Brazil and Colombian sourced beans, with more of the chocolate and caramel flavors but a nice hint of citrus as well. The Taferi Kela was definitely acid forward (in a good way) with bright orange citrus and baking spices dominating. On our second visit, it was an Aponte honey process (which I was familiar with from other roasters), and an excellent Colombian washed anaerobic, Rosados Del Sur. The latter was very fruit forward, with grapefruit and strawberry notes really shining, with a nice acid "tang" as well. The Aponte, while good, was a bit more muted in flavor, and when I mentioned it to the barista, she admitted that they were having trouble with that grinder and she wasn't getting the results she was hoping for that day. Still, it was nice. My experiences here were great, and I'll be sure to visit again anytime I'm in NOLA. If you want the true specialty coffee experience, this is the place. read more

While visiting New Orleans I was in search of coffee and came to Mammoth Espresso. I decided to try the cinammamoth latte. Essentially, an iced latte with the milk being soaked in cinnamon toast crunch. I usually don't try anything other than an iced latte in fear it's too sweet but this was just perfect. My partner had an iced latte and that was also really tasty. I came a total of 3x over my time in New Orleans and each time it was delicious and well balanced. The coffee shop is small and quaint. Staff is friendly. Prices are good. Good amount of seating inside and out. I also tried their chocolate croissant which was top notch. I am not sure what is going on here, but it took nearly 20 minutes to make a latte and there was no one in front of it. We can here about 2 months ago on a Saturday, there were a few people in the cafe. But no one ordered right before us and it took an unreasonable amount of time for that latte. I ordered an affogato and it came out within a few minutes. And the man behind the counter was really nice about it and even recommended that I try one of the signature nitro drinks with added honey and the ice cream, so I did. I did enjoy the honey, I think it was homemade, but it had an odd taste. When the latte finally came out, it was sort of basic, nothing fantastic. The space is like a business space, if there was a coffee break room inside a cubical office. Not a lot of ambience here. Little bits of flare, but not much. If you want a fun coffee shop, I'd recommend Commons Club's funny library - it is very insta worthy. read more

I tried a regular iced latte and an iced cinnamamoth late . We tried coming here everyday of our trip- not just because it was close location wise but the coffee is good. The shop has great space and a minimalistic design that still feels cozy. Clean bathrooms but you will need a key. It seems like the location brings a lot of regulars which is a good sign for any decent coffee shop. Services is friendly and informative- staff seemed very welcoming and knowledgeable. I wont be returning. I dont know if I went on a bad day or this is how it usually is but the coffee tasted like warm pizza red sauce in a cup. I couldn't even finish it without gagging, my friend agreed with sentiment that it tasted like red sauce. The shop is very cute, there aren't a lot of seats inside as it's very quaint, but there's outdoor seating too for overflow. Strolling along the West Side (I think) in search of that afternoon jolt, the pink chairs beckoned and the coffee didn't disappoint at Mammoth. Yes Mammoth stands for an overwhelming menu, but stick with it and the helpful baristas will explain anything for us pedestrian amateurs. I played it safe with the Cafe Au Lait. I believe this is coffee with "lait". In other words, hot milk. See, those friendly baristas would help you not feel like a moron for not knowing that "In Europe, café au lait stems from the same continental tradition as caffè latte". My daughter would promptly order the iced coffee, but not me. 95-degree day? I'm getting something hot. And this Au Lait was perfectly crafted, perfectly temperatured, perfectly presented, you're getting the point? I enjoyed my beverage in those pink chairs out front briefly before the trek back to reality. Too bad I couldn't try a scone or galette this time; I was saving carbs for some high-eatin' later in the day. Mammoth also means over-the-top attention to detail, so you won't get that speedy drive-through assembly line drink, but it will be perfectly completed with high standards. So take a breath and enjoy. Always several varieties of filter coffee for the less-craftie days, and I'll return as soon as possible for another Mammoth experience. read more

Mammoth is a great coffee shop! The space is cozy and really nice. The staff was friendly, as well. Perhaps most importantly, the coffee was some of the best I had while exploring the New Orleans specialty coffee scene; especially in terms of preparation! Cortados are always my go-to to gauge a shop, since it's often hard for too many baristas to get the milk temperature and texture right in smaller drinks, and a poor shot isn't masked with the small amount of milk. Well, the barista behind bar at Mammoth made a PERFECT cortado! The drink was ready to drink immediately, with a nice espresso shot, and a perfect texture (and clean latte art as a bonus)! I also had to try a shot of their single origin that was on bar, which also seemed to be prepared really well. The nice staff, and well-prepared drinks made with quality coffee in a chill environment, means I've found my go-to coffee shop the next time in New Orleans! Definitely check it out! read more

Happenstance brought me here and I'm so glad it did. I had sometime in between meetings and was looking for a quiet spot to get some work done. I intended to go to another coffee shop in the area, but while walking I came across this one which was several blocks closer to where my next meeting was and decided to try it out. When you walk in, you first hit a hallway and the actual coffee shop is off to the side. It sort of looks like it could be an office building with multiple suites. It's extremely cute on the inside--perfect mix of old and new. When I visit a coffee shop, if the music is right I could for sure pass some time there and the playlist here was perfect. A good mix of old and new hip hop, but of the chill variety, so it wasn't too distracting. The baristas were friendly and gave good suggestions for drinks since it was my first time in. I opted for an iced tea. I wanted it sweetened with honey, but they didn't have any which I thought was a little odd, but I enjoyed my drink regardless. They have large windows so there's lots of natural light which I love. It was pretty quiet for the most part for the hour or so that I was there. They had a few groups come in, but mostly just folks grabbing and going even though there's plenty of seating if you wanted to stay a while and the wi-fi is solid. I did peep on my way out that they appear to be expanding to the suite directly across the hall, so I'm excited to see what that will look like. read more

People are NOT kidding about the bad attitudes at the counter. The wait as positively absurd. It took 20+ minutes to get a single simple drink. This is not the baristas' fault but management needs to hire more people. Irritatingly there were several other staff members across the hallway setting up their expanded space and working on their laptops. Went here for an early iced pour over and an espresso. For the pour over, I had a Colombian coffee (Castillo, I think the name was). I had the Ethiopian duromino for the espresso. The espresso was awesome: vibrant and fruity. They are brewing madcap beans from Michigan--a great roaster that I've visited a few times when in Detroit. The space is not massive, but it is very comfortable. The area near the counter is cool and dark. They also have additional seating in the lobby area of the building. The staff was friendly and they took some extra time to redial in the espresso, which is rare and always appreciated. I will definitely return; their specials sound great, too. read more

This place is more like a 3.5 out of 5 stars. This coffee shop was right across the airbnb we were staying at, so it was super convenient to get the much needed coffee in the morning. They have a lot of different types of coffee, teas, lattes and other types of drinks. We kept it simple and opted for the black coffee. However on the pour over coffee, they also have 7 or 8 different types. It was in the morning after a heavy night of drinking and i didn't want to read each options, and asked the baristas which one was the most popular. They mentioned the Francy Castillo was a good one to try. I know on the menu they mentioned different tasting notes, but maybe my taste buds are not that refined, because it just tasted like normal coffee to me. Parking is only street parking, and at times it may be hard to find parking in front. They do have seating inside as well as a few chair/tables outside. read more

I came to Mammoth Espresso on the recommendation of a friend of mine who is a coffee connoisseur; furthermore, I really enjoyed my experience here. Mammoth Espresso sits right in the heart of the Warehouse District of New Orleans in a minimalistic yet adorable space; I was a big fan of the pink furniture that sits outside. Service was fast and friendly, and my iced lavender latte really hit the spot and got me together for the long day of exploring around NOLA that I had ahead of me. The next time I find myself in NOLA I will definitely come back to Mammoth Espresso to get my caffeine fix and try more of their coffee. PS: They sell some cute merch inside. I would not say, that it was warm hospitality i walked in (contrary to the business owners note on here) however it was ok and transactional.
