4.5 stars. I took my SUV here for an oil change and light bulb replacement while on vacation. The shop was clean and the techs are mature/older who seemed to be efficient and conscientious. Tires were properly inflated, washer fluid topped off, front windshield was cleaned. Prices seemed fair. The only error was that I was charged for 2 bulbs instead of 1. The cashier/owner cheerfully refunded money for the extra bulb. Maybe I'll make this place my annual car service place when we visit Nags Head each year. read more

I was on vacation, hours from home, and discovered a nail in my tire. I went to Coastal Lube to get it looked at and what GREAT choice. They determined the short nail had not punctured my tire, checked all of my tires and corrected pressures, and even diagnosed my TMPS sensor in my right, rear tire was not functioning ( the reason the light was on). After spending time doing the above, they wouldn't let me pay anything! What kind, helpful people...from the front desk to the mechanics!! I wish I lived there to be able to always use them for all of our cars! I highly recommend this business. read more

I would give 5 stars because the service is excellent but it is what they did with my truck when they were done that I wasn't happy with. I dropped my truck off for an oil change and walked home because it wasn't far. The called a short time later and said the truck was ready for pickup. I got there within a half hour. The parking area is limited and my truck was at the end of the driveway (front bumper at curb) with both front windows down and the keys in the ignition. Apparently they thought I was in the waiting room. I wasn't happy and probably won't do business with them again. read more

I have been done soooo wrong by this place. Went to get 2 new tires, paid $480.00 and they did the wrong tires and damaged my good ones. Kept my vehicle for 4 days leaving me and my family carless from THEIR mistake then charged me $180.00 more for new tire and when I got it back the tire was on backwards clearly reading this side inward on the outside wall. No compassion for what they put me through was the end result and I saw a whole new "greedy" side that was all about the $$$$ sign for them. They stole my money and my car for 4 days. Beware obx. I've had several oil changes here, and nothing about them are fast. It shouldn't be part of the name!. What Encouraged me to write this review was my last visit when I asked to have new brake pads. after leaving my vehicle there all day with no call back,. I contacted them, and the mechanic told me that I needed new rotors as well. I agreed to that, but then when I did not hear back again, I called again, and the same mechanic said that he could not remove the pads or rotors because They needed more parts, and they had to be ordered from the manufacturer, and it would take days for the parts to get there..,the cost was multiplying by the minute....to the tune of about $400. Luckily, I'm a skeptic, and I told them I was going to get a second opinion. One week later, I took my truck to a reliable mechanic on the beach, and he quickly replaced my brake pads, and told me I did not need new rotors -or of course-any of the other expensive parts. The good news is, I now have a trusted mechanic to go to! read more

There is nothing worse than having car trouble when you're out of town and don't know who to trust with your car. I have family in Virginia and would always try to make it up there to see their mechanic if i had car trouble in Nags Head while vacationing. This made for nervous trips. Finally, something needed to be addressed while I was on vacation so I asked around and Coastal Lube came highly recommended. That was 3 years ago and now I save things to get done until I go to Nags Head! They are the nicest, most professional, informative group of mechanics and owner that I have ever come across. Every time I am in their waiting room--which has a TV, a clean restroom and magazines (maybe even wi-fi as I saw a customer on a computer last time), I listen to the conversation amongst those waiting and they are always talking about how much they love the place! This is pretty rare in my experience. Usually people hate having to go to the mechanic but with these guys, you know you're in good hands--they're going to explain it to you, fix it at the best price, and they seem to stay on schedule so that waiting is easy. I went in recently for a nail in my tire--wanting a patch and an oil change. They checked my tire thoroughly and explained that it hadn't leaked, was through the thick part of the tire and had probably been there quite awhile, recommending I didn't need the patch. It's been fine since and I appreciate their honesty. I asked about something else my Ford Explorer was doing and they told me it was normal. Other places, could have easily taken advantage of me and I'd probably have shelled out whatever they asked for peace of mind. This past visit, instead of sitting and waiting, my husband and I chose to walk 4 minutes over to the beach and had a great walk while they changed the oil and checked things. Stopped in around 8am this morning for an oil change and tire rotation. They were fast! Only there about 30 minutes and they were busy. Reasonable price. I was in town for a week, got an oil change the day before driving down from NYC. But after the drive, the oil change light went on. I pulled up, a lady asked what I was looking for, I told her that the light went on, but I just had it changed, so I didn't know if there was a leak, or if they messed up. Turns out the guys who did the change just didn't reset everything -- so she fixed that for free and sent me away. Saved $40, solved the problem in a minute! Friendly, great stuff. read more

On vacation last week, we got a nail in our tire. It was bad! Huge nail, air bubbling out! Of course, it was on the day we had to leave! These guys were the 3rd place we tried. ( we were told 3 hours and 5 hours at other locations). Finally we found a place that would help us! They were great! Super friendly! Understood that time was important to us, since we had to be out of our rental at 10. It took about 20 min total. The best part was that they treated us so well. Fast, friendly, professional! My daughter was in Kill Devil for the summer and stuck a nail in her tire . She sent me a photo and I was sure it was to close to the sidewall to be repaired . Sent her over to Coastal for them to check it out . They confirmed my diagnosis. They did not have the exact tire in stock but said they could have it the next morning . Since the rest of the tires were near new we decided to wait the next day for the tire. Everything went as smooth as could . I am in the tire business in another state . I know the wholesale pricing and what the tire should sell for . I can tell you they made very little on this "about the average for a tire replacement" and being from out of state they did not try to take advantage of us . We were getting ready to leave the Outer Banks when taking a load out to the SUV I saw what I thought was a rock wedged in the tread of the rear right tire. When I went to flick it out of the tread it didn't move. It was a nail! I found Coastal Fast Lube in the yellow pages at our rental and gave them a call. Hey, they know what they are doing and they do it well! Although they didn't have a match to replace my damaged tire they had a used tire that looked new to me. What an efficient company. We all went and got a little breakfast and before we knew it my SUV was ready to roll. It's not a good feeling to feel stuck when you want to get on the road but Coastal Fast Lube lived up to their name! No wonder that all the reviews I've seen on Yelp* are a full 5 stars for them. I was extremely disappointed in this place. it was recommended by my boyfriend bc he used to go there and he said they were nice and affordable and fast exactly what i needed. i called before i went in and asked how much an oil change would be because all i had was 23 bucks. they told me it wouldn't even be that much. i got the oil change and went to pay. the lady told me 40 dollars. i explained to her that i had called and was told it was 20 bucks for an oil change. she was very rude to me. she was very insulting and acted like she could care less that i was misinformed. i told my boyfriend about it and he called the lady and she actually accused me of lying. she said i never called. I was very insulted and disrespected and very very angry. i will never go there again. the lady did call me and agreed to just let me pay the 20. but even then she was rude to me. i have never heard of an pil change being 40 dollars. read more

I usually don't post reviews, but after reading a very recent one with tire problems... I thought it necessary to warn people. I purchased 4 new tires a few weeks ago, paid over $700. I noticed the steering wheel was shaking slightly after the new tires were installed. (Had not done this w/ the "old" tires.) Finally after a little more driving I decided something was definitely wrong. Took it back to them and sure enough, the tires had not been balanced properly. Although they took care of the problem (at no cost)... this should not have happened in the first place. Had to waste another hour of my time for them to "fix" their problem. No apologies or explanation given. They need to hire or re-train a new tire guy!!! I definitely would not recommend buying tires here. Can't comment on repairs or other work. Will gladly show my receipt to verify purchase of tires. Even though Yelp has chosen not to recommend this review. It is VERY honest.... and I still have a $740 receipt and other proof I received very poor service from Coastal Fast Lube. Had to go elsewhere a THIRD time to finally correct their mistake. read more

We drive back and forth pretty regularly between Baltimore and the OBX. We discovered Coastal by chance when we needed an oil change before driving back one time. We were so impressed with the CHEERFUL and FAST service and the LOW PRICE that we now always plan our oil changes for our two cars for when we are down here. That said, TODAY, my experience was over the top GREAT!! My warning light and beeper in the VW went off, letting me know my oil was low. This car (a VW) goes through some oil (expensive - synthetic)...so I knew all I needed was to add some...and I stopped into Coastal Fast Lube, since this is where we always have it changed. They checked it out immediately (on a crowded day), and topped it off (2.5 qts) for FREE. I did not expect this and was truly so appreciative!! Apparently that is part of their service - when you are within the time period on your service sticker, they give you free oil top-offs!! WOW!!
