This location gets pretty packed especially on weekends and they don't take reservations which is a bummer...good thing there are a couple of other decent restaurants in the mall for the nights that we are unable to get a table...(La Sandia, Brio...) Whenever I come here I have to make a tough decision: Healthy entree or Sinfully Amazing entree?!?! Healthy route consists of either the Roasted Chicken salad which has dates, champagne vinaigrette dressing, corn, goat cheese and pine nutes OR the Simply Chicken. Both are great options and will leave you feeling guilt-less. Sinful route consists of the amazing Drunken Rib Eye!!!!! This comes with a side salad (chopped house salad with basil is my fave!), a HUGE Ribeye topped with baby mushrooms with the perfect flavor, texture and quality ever, AND a side (I opt for mashed potatoes, while the bf always gets his with fries) I never even come close to finishing this meal and I end up being able to eat it for 2 meals afterwards...it's really HUGE! Regardless of my choice, we always make sure to get a coupe of refills on the aussie donut rolls and the honey butter it comes with...I eat at least 4 of these bad boys whenever I come...sadly they aren't good re-heated, so eat them while they are nice, fluffy, and hot! I love Coastal Flats! As a big seafood fan, I always love dining out at seafood establishments and for a restaurant located in a mall (Tysons Corner Center), this place did not disappoint! I ordered the Lobster Club Salad (at a market price of $22) and absolutely LOVED it! There was plenty of lobster (apparently a pound of it??) And the other ingredients were fresh and delicious. The salad came with avocado, corn, cherry tomatoes, maple bacon, a deviled egg, and a divine champagne vinaigrette dressing. My dear boyfriend went with the bacon cheeseburger and loved it too. The food was fantastic and so fresh! And even the bread and butter, served complimentary, was great. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening (the restaurant is quite big and has plenty of seats), even though the place was quite bustling even then. Service was attentive and friendly and we had a great time all around. The booths are super comfy and the whole place just has a very warm and inviting ambiance. I don't know what kind of thing they have going on there but what's up with limited plates of their filet tips?? It's SO annoying. I cannot stand when I go there, repeatedly, and turn back around when they come to me and say "sorry ma'am we ran out for the afternoon." I heard its a tactic they use so if you tell them that's the only reason you came then they will come back and say "oh we have one more left that we can make for u!" My most recent visits haven't gone that way unfortunately there always "sold out" If I could give them a zero star I would. The Ozzie rolls are so amazing with butter to start off your meal. The warm flourless chocolate waffle with ice cream and toasted almond is delicious. The lobster roll is only okay and they need to work on improving that. Have had it three times and been underwhelmed with it. The calamari is a must for starters. Located at Tysons Corner Center, a huge mall, my friends and I had lunch here after Yelping someplace decent to eat in the area. The reviews raved about the Lobster Roll, so that's what I had and it was fabulous. There was so much lobster meat, it was falling out of the roll. That, paired with the roasted corn on the cob, really hit the spot. This is a chain restaurant, but I'm no snob when it comes to that fact. I've found that most chains have some of the best customer service, and this time was no different. Being part of the Great American Restaurants I expected a certain level of quality but Coastal Flats falls short. Alexis K and I are huge fans of Silverado's so this being where our first date was we wanted to relive the moment. Their menu is quite extensive, probably more so then Silverados. I ended up ordering their drunken rib eye medium rare with their house chopped salad. It also came with mashed potatoes and some mushrooms. My gf ordered their special fish of the night grilled mahi mahi topped with spinach and mushrooms. The chopped salad was delicious and enough to feed my gf and I. The steak was overcooked, more of a medium temperature but I didn't really mind. However the taste of the steak was a bit odd for me. It was very sweet and salty at the same time. I gave a couple of bites to my gf and she seemed to enjoy it, but I was not a fan of it. Her fish came out perfectly, I should have ordered this dish instead. After finishing our meals at a GAR I always have room for their delicious desserts. We opted for their flourless chocolate waffle and the one Coastal Flats serves is even better then the other GAR! They have nuts sprinkled on top and it gave the dessert a crunch which I prefer. Being located in Tysons Corner this is definitely one of the better options for a sit down restaurant. I would recommend eating their seafood here because it seems like that is what Coastal Flats specializes in. If you want a steak, go to Mikes and you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere of Coastal Flats in the Tyson's Corner mall is vibrant with the amount of people that go. The layout allows you to people watch shoppers in the mall if you are sitting in the bar area. The Happy hour items are reasonably priced with a decent selection of beer. I forgot to ask for those delicious ozzie rolls, but those would have been clutch at HH time. The calamari was not heavily coated with batter (+) and the sauce was not overly sweet (+), and the portion size was pretty large for a HH price of $6. Pretty satisfied. The Spinach and Artichoke dip was flavorful, but was a bit heavy for my taste. Additionally, they could use better chips. The chips they provided would break very easily when going in for a scoop of dip. I would not get again. Entree: Drunken Rib-Eye Rating: ***1/2 Having been a fan of the drunken rib-eye at their sister restaurant, Sweet Water Tavern, the seasoning and sauce were quite similar. Ordered medium-rare, the piece of meat given was not too fatty, but it was a bit chewy. I absolutely love this place! Maybe it is just the ozzie rolls...nah! I love this place! I've been here many, many times and have yet to be dissappointed. I've had the pleasure of both table service and bar service. The hotesses, waiters, servers, baristas, etc. are always pleasant and provide good service. My menu favorites include: the jumbo grilled shrimp with orzo salad, baby crab cake sliders (starter), jumbo lump crab cake and low country baby back ribs (they are beef!). The sauteed shrimp & creamy grit cakes are delicious too...I tried it when someone else ordered it...I didn't know it was made with ham. :( I think there are 2 or 3 types of bread served in the bread basket but I only like the ozzie rolls. They are served hot and the butter is like icing on the cake! Sometimes I ask for 3rds...lol. Often it is very busy during the dinner hour and on weekends - the wait can be up to an hour! This restaurant is on the lower floor of Tyson's Corner Center downstairs from Barnes & Noble and near the movie theater. There are other restaurants right next to it as well. It is a bustling busy location because of it being in the mall and next to the theater, but also because it has great food! If you don't know about what I just described in locating this hidden gem chances are you will have a really hard time finding it. Why? I lead group trips all over the world from our base in NYC. I do a hell of alot of planning before the trip so everything is pretty predictable and delivered as promised with few hiccups. I have learned Washington DC and the area businesses don't like being too forthcoming with any easy to follow directions or guides. Case in point when you get to mall just try to find something that tells you where the restaurants are.. better yet, look them up online. The address you're given is a bit lacking, and so is the floor map of the businesses in the Center.. they don't exist on it. If you have to wait to be seated there is a bar near the front, there are perhaps two or so rocking chairs and other chairs. They will hand you an electronic device to tell you when your table is ready. I am not a seafood fan except for lobster and shrimp (and perhaps scallops). When I saw they had Mahi mahi I asked about it and out waited suggested it based on why I didn't have seafood too often. He told me if I didn't like it just let him know and he'll fix it. Service is pretty attentive here. But the food is outstanding! My tour group did not have one negative comment, conversely they loved what they had and the ambience as well. 7:30pm on a Tuesday We were supposed to have reservations, but they couldn't find it. Had to wait around for half an hour. On the verge of going somewhere else that could readily accomodate us. Their largest tables, round booth were inadequate to fit our party of 8, which was ironic because this place was huge and spacious. Service was nice although a bit slow. For a seafood place, there could be more seafood items on the menu. Dinner rolls didn't seem to taste as good as you would expect from the other GAR restaurants. Calamari appetizer was very good. Shrimp roll sandwich with shoestring fries was good. Salmon filet alright too. Had to order it well done for dietary reasons although they recommend cooking it medium done. At least now you can go and not come out starving. We went there on a Saturday night, and had to wait for 20 minutes. The service is a hit or miss. I only saw our server 3 times - once when we were seated, second when he took our order, and third when he brought the check. We asked for extra plates for the bread, and he never brought it. We had to ask someone else. He never bothered to come and check if our food was ok, or if we needed anything. There is a veggie burger option that looked really good. However, I went for the 'Penne Primavera' with only veggies. The pasta was decent and had flavor. The fries are delicious...thinly sliced and full of flavor. I've been in Tysons many times but never thought to dine at Coastal Flats. I'm giving this place 2 out of 5 stars because there was nothing outstanding about the restaurant. The servers were GREAT. They greeted me and my partner in crime within the first 30 seconds of us arriving. There was no wait which was good because I was starving. However, the rolls were probably the best thing on the menu outside of the 2 mojitos I ordered. Mango mojito and pineapple mojito were delicious. The crab cakes were loose, the corn was ok. We were promptly seated and our server was quick to greet us and take our orders. We requested solely the Ozzie rolls instead of the various bread basket and it was heaven. I absolutely love love love the Ozzie rolls with their sweet butter as bad as it is for you! Their homemade lemonade was pretty good although just a little bit too tart for me. I had the Penne Primavera with Shrimp for my entree and it was a pretty big portion. I liked that it had a lot of greens in the dish. It wasn't what I was expecting with the amount of reviews for a seafood restaurant inside a mall - not that there's anything wrong with them. It was just surprisingly good. We started out with the ceviche, which was fresh and tangy and a little spicy. This got us ready for dinner, which we were pretty pepped up to have. I had the lobster sandwich that came with a couple of sides. I had the grilled corn on the cob and fries. It was very tasty. Luck will have it that the raw fish served here is consistent every single time and enough for me to crave every once in a while. Oh, the shrimp salad is pretty fantastic too... an alternative option if I'm not in a fish mood. Their bread pudding and key lime martinis are killer.... orgasmic experience every single time. Their ozzie rolls ... little fried like doughnut holes are to die for too.... totally bad for you but so incredibly delicious, but at least it's not sugar coated. Thank god I'm only limited to one roll per person. Who better than me than to solely eat bread and make it a complete meal? Yes, these rolls embellish the meaning of carbs in a truly spoiled, and unrefined manner. Now I really don't want to know the calorie content for fear of never touching them again! It was my first time here and I was excited to try since my friend kept raving about how good the food is. We got seated right away after walking in at about 7pm for a party of 4. We started off with two of the Blue Crab & Rock Shrimp Fritters and it was very good. I liked the sauce :) For my entree, I got the smoked salmon filet cooked medium rare and it was perfect. I've never had or thought to have my fish cooked any way other than well but my friend suggested I try that.. It was definitely a whole new experience. Anytime I'm in the mall, I always walk by this restaurant and it's always packed; lunch and dinner time. I finally gave in and wanted to know what makes Coastal Flats Tysons so special. Now, I see why and let me tell you why... First, from the moment you enter the restaurant, the hostess greets you and seats you in a timely manner. My server was April. Since I wasn't familiar with their menu, I had asked April what dishes she recommended. She recommended the 'Beef Baby Back Ribs' (the beef literally came straight off the bone without barely touching it). My stomach was surely satisfied. But here is the icing on the cake, cherry on top part. One of the servers had accidentally dropped either tarter or ranch sauce beside where I was sitting at. It didn't get on me but apparently it caught my jacket. I wouldn't have known if Ben Davis, one of the managers, hadn't told me. Ben kindly approached me and stated that there was a little bit of sauce on my jacket and wanted to clean it thoroughly by asking me if he could take it to the back. He brought it back to me in good condition and apologized for any inconvenience. Ben gave me his business card if I wanted to contact him for any reason. I arrived home from the restaurant and checked my pockets in my jacket and there was a CF gift card from Ben for the inconvenience. Now that's an A+ customer service! Was there on a Wednesday for a quick lunch with a friend. It wasn't busy or crowded which is perfect for conversations and getting your order quick. My two stars is for the meal, not necessarily for the entire restaurant experience. I will try to give it another chance but for now - don't getting he crab cakes! Consider yourself warned. I took some colleagues to Coastal Flats for a holiday lunch. I made reservations, but we were 10 minutes late. As we came up they were handing out hockey puck pagers saying 15 minute wait. I gave them my name and apologized for being late. No problem, they said. Should be a short wait and gave me a puck. In less than 30 seconds it went off. I was hugely impressed. We scored good seats and the waitress took our orders promptly. Great service on fluids, they never went low. The meal came with a warm mix of breads which were solid. We all ordered the crab and corn chowder which alone should have scored four or five stars. Then I had a tough time choosing. I love seafood, so I went with my old staple - crab cakes and called down the curse of the gods. It's not as if I desecrated King Tuts tomb! What did I do wrong to deserve that? It said "Market Price" which means hugely expensive which furthered my disappointment. What was wrong? Ever had an over mayonnaised egg salad sandwich with three times too much herbs? That was it. The confusion of favors, too much mayo (otherwise little to no filler) and some funky herby taste washed out the little crab that was there. I am NOT a crab cake snob like my B-more friends, but this failed to meet my low brow palate. Totally missed the meal choice as it was poorly made. To make up for the lack of real estate it consumed on my plate, I had a PILE of French fries and the largest batch of coleslaw I've ever seen. Like the family portion at KFC, but not as good. From drinks to food to the service, this restaurant has it all. My favorite drink is the mango mojito and I'm sad to say they do not have a happy hour. The food is wonderful. The appetizer of deviled eggs and candied bacon inspired my family to try to replicate the bacon. Since I prefer hand-cut (thick) french fries, CF's french fries were not impressive but all other dishes were very tasty and flavorful. If you want something similar to mashed potato but lighter version, try mashed cauliflower. You will be surprised:) Among all I had, one thing made me happier than ever was thier donut-like-ozzie bread ball. I love this cute round little thing. I rolled it in sugar and it became buttery-donut ball. I can come back to CF just for best bun's bread basket. Flourless chocolate waffle was OK but I would rather get other dessert next time. Terrible service and overpriced food. Every time I've ordered takeout, Its taken a very long time. Tonight my order was placed at 7:30 PM (on the receipt). Pick up time was 7:51 PM. I walk in the restaurant at about 8:10 PM (sent the notice via web of being on my way, too). I sat in the restaurant for over 25 minutes waiting on my food. I finally get my food at 8:37 PM after asking for it twice. How the hell does it take an hour and 7 minutes to make a medium rare ahi tuna salad? What's the point if I have to wait over an hour every time I order takeout? I'm not going back. read more

I like the food and experience at Coastal Flats. They have a nice and easy menu along with a good selection of wines. Wines are a bit pricey compared to other restaurants tho. Service has always been good though if you ask for extra bread, it never shows up for us! Among the dishes here, I like the following - 2 dip appetizer - good to share and fresh Main course - crab cakes (a tad bit too salty for me), sea bass and filet mignon. There is almost always a wait to get seated here tho, but the bar is a good place to hang out and get a drink before the meal. read more

I was visiting VA for a friend's wedding and so we decided to go shopping for last minute accessories at the BEST MALL EVER, Tysons Corner. We decided to grab some lunch before our shopping adventure and I wanted to give Coastal Flats a try. The hostess was very sweet and got us to our table almost immediately. (Not bad for a busy lunch hour.) Our waiter greeted us and was very prompt with our drinks and always smiling. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits and I ordered the Mango chicken and spiced pecans salad. It came with a bed of mixed greens, mangoes, chicken, couscous, almonds, sun dried cranberries, and grape tomatoes. I can say it's obvious my friend's dish was delicious because her plate was completely clean, and my salad was divine. Nice and fresh with awesome flavor! This place also offers great seafood dishes, sandwiches, and awesome desserts. One day I'd like to return and try their famous lobster roll. Definitely recommend this place to all seafood lovers! read more
