Ask your server to remove the 5% supplemental fee. Coasterra automatically adds this to the bill for employees health insurance, however, they do not provide the employees with health insurance. If you pay this you are giving the property a 5% tip for existing. It does NOT go to the employees. This is one of the main reasons for the lower score. Beautiful view of the harbor and downtown. Free and valet parking available, free parking is available non peak hours (Sun-Thur I believe). Restaurant is clean and has an open concept interior design to maximizing the view. Dishes were hit and miss, the salmon was too fishy smell and taste. Better quality was expected from fine dining on the water. The Tampiquena was cooked well but really lacked flavor, this dish relied heavily on the drizzle of sauce over the top. The surf/turf fajitas were flavored well and portion was good size. Enchiladas were good flavor and solid portion. The Cazuela (pork) was probably the best flavored dish and the pork melted in my mouth. The wagyu burger was average, overpriced but due to the location no one was surprised. Our group ordered several Alcohol beverages, coconut margarita was the crowd favorite. Old Fashioned was a disappointment, for $27/ea we expected them to come out Smokey and have a better pour. By the time the drink arrived to our table and the server removed the lid zero smoke billowed out which was lack luster. Pours are measured, smaller highball glasses may give the illusion of better value. All wines/prosecco's were as expected. The drink menu is larger than the food menu, ensuring something for everyone. Our server was polite, professional and did not make any mistakes. I noticed that he has several large parties and handled everything well. Thank you Travis. Although the property appears to be ADA compliant, I think that anyone in a wheelchair would have a very difficult time washing their hands in the women's restroom. The sinks are very wide and difficult to reach the water spout. Coasterra has dishes on their website that are not on the menu. One example is the scallops, Coasterra needs to update the website to temper disappointment when guests arrive. Overall, nice experience one time, mainly for the view and the service.
This location is definitely an upscale Mexican vibe, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. For apps, we shared the calamari and Tempura Jalapeno-Cilantro cauliflower. I loved the cauliflower app. It was well seasoned, and had a good crunch to it. Calamari was good as well. But I highly recommend cauliflower app over calamari. For main course, I got the tempura Mahi Tacos. They were very filling and had a very subtle spicy kick in the tacos. Overall, the food was good for upscale Mexican-esque food. Service was excellent as well. Our waters never ran empty and after apps, they gave us new napkins to set our forks and knives down while they took our small plates away. They even offered to give us a new set of forks and knives. I think it is small details like this that make a difference. The most prominent detail I really liked about this location was the ocean view. We made a reservation for outdoor seating, and had an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. Parking was a little difficult. There's only one row for free self parking, but it is very limited. They offer $10 valet which I had to do because I could not find any parking. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Because this restaurant is a more high-end / upscale restaurant, I would recommend this location more for a special occasion or date night rather than a casual place to eat.
Great place to take people from out of town. Love the view, love the happy hour, and love their coconut margarita! Their customer service is great as well. The food is a bit underwhelming for the price.
My new favorite spot in San Diego! I had no idea Reuben E. Lee was gone and this beautiful venue replaced it! I am so glad! This visit we stuck to the Happy Hour menu for food, but the main menu looked so tasty! The margarita very strong and had too much ice, but the wine was tasty! The chips, salsa and guacamole were wonderful and the guacamole was a hearty portion - well worth the cost. The ceviche was just okay, it was packed with what should have been delicious ingredients and in the end it was pretty tasteless. The service was A+ and the view, well there are no words.
The ambiance is welcoming. Music playing in the background. You have two options stand in bar area or sit with a view. We opted for a view by the beach. We definitely splurged. As it was our first time here and we thought the food portions would be small. Wrong. You definitely get your money's worth so be mindful when ordering. Capechana- decent - could be a shared appetizer if you want sea food. Agua Aguachiles- decent - could also be shared as an appetizer. To close it off we had steak and lobster. (Totally shareable) - more on the pricer side. But definitely worth it. Service was greag. Our waiter check in on us a few times but it didnt feel as if he was all over when we felt rushed so this was a plus. We were here for about two hours talking and enjoying the view. Food, views, vibes & service were all 10/10. I came on a Tuesday night at 7pm to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was pretty already, but we had a reservation. We got seated quickly and got lucky with a side table and perfect view of the city. We saw it during sunset and at night with all the lights. They give you chips and salsa to start and we got the spicy margarita and strawberry margarita both were tasty and easy to drink. We opted to get the paella for 2 which takes a little extra time to prepare but was well worth the wait. It was so flavorful with all the seafood being a nice touch of salt. It was a little spicy but the cream sauce balanced it well. The rice was fluffy but crispy on the bottom. It could've fed 4 people probably. We got a complimentary slice of strawberry tres leches and it was the perfect ending to our meal. So incredibly light and not too sweet. Our server, Abdo made our dining experience even better with his friendliness and attention to the fact that we were celebrating something. All the staff we interacted with were pleasant and attentive. I'll definitely be back to try other things on their menu and would highly recommend!
An Unforgettable Birthday Celebration! I took my husband here for his birthday this past Monday, and the entire experience was absolutely incredible from start to finish. First, the location and the views are simply stunning. It set the perfect backdrop for a celebratory evening. But what really elevated the vibe was the music! The playlist was so on point that I literally found myself dancing in my seat to every single song. It created such a fun, lively energy. I also have to give a massive shoutout to our waiter, who was incredibly attentive, warm, and anticipated our every need. The entire staff went above and beyond to make my husband feel so wonderfully celebrated. From a sweet little "Happy Birthday" sign to a surprise dessert at the end of the meal, every detail was thoughtful and perfectly executed. This place is truly incredible. We will absolutely be back!
I am a huge fan of all of the Cohn restaurants. Coasterra is one of the only ones in San Diego that I had never experienced until now. So I was very excited to see what this place had to offer. Celebrated my daughter's 19th birthday here this week, and to be honest, I was not impressed. The location and views from this place are unmatched. Tons of covered patio seating with a breathtaking view of the downtown skyline. As for the food, it was just ok. It was mostly mexican seafood, but there was a good mix of other items like steak and a wagu burger. Everything was served hot and fresh, but in my honest opinion, everything just lacked flavor. Everything I tasted was just bland, and I tasted a little bit of all of my family's meals. But everyone agreed. Maybe we are just spoiled with San Diego Mexican food. My biggest complaint of the night was the service. Our waiter started off well. He took our drink orders and when he returned, asked if we wanted to get appetizers started, which we did. Our appetizers came out and were finished and we still had not seen our server to order our main dinner. This continued to be the issue all night, we were constantly looking and waiting for our server. There were other servers that came around and filled our drinks and took our plates, and they were great! But we really didn't see our main server most of the night. And one of the times that we did walk by, my daughter asked for a new glass of water because she had dropped food into the glass. He took the glass and never came back. I ended up giving my daughter my water. I did notice that the servers at the other tables were awesome. They were attentive, and we constantly saw them checking on their guest. And like I said, we are fans of all of the Cohn restaurants we have dined at before, so the level of service we received is not typical. Maybe our server was new??? I will say, this is not a cheap place to eat. My family of 5 spent almost $240 and that was with no alcohol or desserts. So you would expect to receive a high level of service. Other than the ambience, our experience was just ok. I would highly recommend the restaurants next door, which are owned by the same owner, and have never disappointed us in quality and/or service (Island Prime or C-Level).
So the second time around, I would have to say this was a much better experience. I did go during lunch and not dinner. Our server David was super attentive and welcoming. He kept checking in on our food and we did hit a hiccup which was we put in the order for the kids first, but it didn't come till much after our adult entrées came so again I would say the consistency still need some growth but overall it was much better than my last time. You can see the picture where our food wise and we waited for about 12 minutes until the kids food came. I will give the extra Star because of David and the service that he provided checking in on us refilling our water. He was very attentive and very kind This time we did try some new dishes like the mahi tacos, which were good, but the fish was a little tough. The trout plate which was cooked actually very well and my kids both got hamburgers. Again, beautiful scenery and the food was overall good for some reason we had a hiccup again. Nothing can be perfect but again I will say that service was great. The view was amazing as usual and glad to revisit.
We are total creatures of habit and always end up at C Level for lunch whenever we're in San Diego, but we've been eyeing Coasterra next door for a while now. Decided to finally mix things up this time, and it did not disappoint! It's definitely an upscale Mexican spot, but the main draw right off the bat is the location. We got hooked up with a waterfront table, and the views of downtown SD and the Coronado Bridge are unreal. Here's what we ordered: Queso Fundido: Started with this and it was delicious. Famous Fajitas (Shrimp & Steak): Hands down the highlight. The meat was super well-seasoned and the charred veggies added so much flavor. Tampiqueña: Really solid and flavorful. Note on the chips: The chips here are a little different than what you usually get at a typical neighborhood Mexican joint--a bit thicker/different texture--but still tasty! All in all, everything was fabulous. If you're stuck in a routine of only going to C Level, definitely give Coasterra a try! We're super glad we finally did.
Delicious food, great view, and wonderful hospitality! On our last evening in San Diego, we went to Coasterra to wrap up our vacation there. This restaurant came highly recommended by major Visit San Diego websites, and we felt we should give it a try. Located right next to the water, the restaurant offers expansive view of the harbor and the San Diego skyline. Sitting is about 50/50 indoor vs. outdoor, and we chose the indoor sitting as it tended to get colder in the evening. Parking is available out front, but we took Lyft there. We came in around Happy Hour, and we were able to score two appetizers for $11 each. We got fried calamari and fish cervice as appetizers. For entree, we had the fish tacos and scallops. Both of the appetizers were excellent, and the cervice was so light and flavorful. My husband loved his scallop entree, and the taste and presentation were original and outstanding. My fish taco was enjoyable as well. For dessert, we had fresh churro that was paired with ice cream, which was excellent as well. Our meal came to $143 with taxes, which was a very good value with the quality and services offered. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, which made us felt right at home. As for the ambiance, it felt modern and relaxed. There were diverse customers from locals, tourists, and business people. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience and we will return.
Made reservations on open table but the space is so big there were still lots of vacancies when we went for a Saturday lunch. Ordered the crispy calamari, ceviche trio, and ahi tuna tostada. Enjoyed the different flavors of ceviche and was a fan of the super crispiness of calamari. My fav was the ahi tuna tostada. Super dressed up and had a good mix of crunchy, tart, salty, and mildly spicy. The restaurant has a great view of the ocean especially if you sit outside. Our waiter was very friendly and our food came out in a timely manner.
The food was good and for the setting (both the establishment and the city) was not overpriced. Our server was friendly and took good care fo us. We likely will not be going back simply because the place was just too loud. My wife and I spent the evening shouting back and forth to each other other. It's quite large, the music is loud, and they don't do anything to dampen the sound. Their giant patio was hosting someone's business event as well as some family affairs, which meant we had a bunch of toddlers (one of whom was in only a diaper) running around on the other side of the glass. That's fine, families have to go out too it's just not what we expected from this particular place when we made the reservation. Since I have it, I'll include a photo of the tortilla soup, which was quite good.

We had originally made a reservation at C-Level for my birthday but ended up at Coasterra instead which had better seating and gorgeous view. It was a late lunch/early dinner so technically a linner. The timing was perfect bc the original plan was to go out for dinner. It worked out perfectly because we were able to enjoy the sunset. Our server did an amazing job pacing our meal and was very helpful recommending amazing drinks. We had a wonderful meal and our server was very attentive. We started with a few drinks so I ordered the Hibiscus Mule. Since it was lunch-ish, we ordered the following: Ceviche Clasico Oysters on the Half Shell (deliciously fresh) Chicken Enchiladas Mussels and Clams I'm glad I ordered the mussels and clams. It was fresh and had the right amount of seasoning. The grilled ciabatta was golden and crisp which was great for dipping into the chipotle crema. For my second drink, I ordered the Coconut Margarita and it was delicious with a slight sour taste. I was unsure if I should order it just in case it had a strong coconut flavor. Our server recommended the drink and he was right! It has a mild coconut flavor and it was the perfect after-dinner drink. To end my birthday lunch, our server brought a birthday flan for the BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!!! Meeeee haha... We had a great time for sure! read more

The hostess and bartender kept this from being one star review. The service is strong and the hostess kindly gave us a table with great view. Also, I really appreciate their team reaching out to discuss my issues and really listen. Shows a true desire to care about the dining experience. This is flavor blandness of chipotle with prices of fine dining. This is the most pathetic Caesar salad I've ever seen. I specifically asked the waiter if the guacamole was fresh made. This looks like it came out of a Trader Joe's squeeze pack. I've never seen fresh guacamole that looked like this when made actually at the time of ordering. The chips were stale too. For the price, their food should have flavor and it's quite bland. I would return for happy hour solely for a drink and the view. Honestly, the lunch menu looked so much better yet the poor flavor profile during dinner to price doesn't make it worth it. This could be an exceptional restaurant if they infused some flavor into the food. Keep in mind that my party of 3 spent $150 at the bar waiting for our table. The Casa Nobles Marques pour is marked up beyond comprehension. To spend $300 with tip for dinner & bar drinks... I'd expect MUCH higher quality food. This is Born and Raised territory. read more
Well the view and ambience is spectacular! Probably the best in San Diego of the harbor. It's right on the water with the downtown cityscape directly across. There isn't a comparable view (except from Peohe's on Coronado.) I love all the lighting, fire pits, open spaces colors and walking areas. Makes the venue very inviting and romantic. Most of the seating is on an open patio, of which is fully covered. But it adds to the draw of the gorgeous view. Most all the tables have a great view of the cityscape. So, this is really perfect for special occasions and amazing pics. I had high expectations for the food... Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed at some of the dishes. First of all, we brought our sons and their families to celebrate my 60th Birthday. We were a group of 12. So we ordered 2 table-side guacamoles. Looked like it was going to be delish with all the ingredients to be added in. But, it was really lacking in salt and flavor. Very bland. And great guac should include garlic! No garlic. So we just added salt. Bummer as we spent $30 for 2 orders. (The Baja Prawns app and the Plantain Tacos app were good, tho.) Secondly, for my special day, I ordered the Scallops and added an extra scallop (I love scallops!). It was a lovely presentation for sure. But, again, it was all so bland. Totally lacked salt. Everything on the plate. It's really weird. But, the scallops were large and beautifully cooked with a perfect sear. The vegetables and the purée all looked great. But, I had to add lots of salt on everything (and I am not a salt fiend, I just appreciate flavor). And I also had to squeeze a generous portion of fresh lime juice as there was no acidity (punch) or any kind of pop to the flavors. Ok then it was fantastic. So, that was the bad news. Now the good news. My hub ordered the fresh fish special: branzino w/ rice and eggplant n veggies. And that was simply divine! The skin was pan-fried or roasted? to a crackly, tasty perfection on the outside and the fish on the inside was so buttery tender and delicious. A very flavorful dish. He loved it. My G-daughter liked her cod plate and several others ordered the tri-tip and they all really enjoyed it. And they even had some leftovers to bring home. One of our G-sons ordered the blackened salmon and that was delish. One of my daughters-in-law and I both ordered the coconut margarita. It was yummy. For desert I was served a complimentary flan w/ fresh sliced strawberries sprinkled w/ toasted coconut. That was nice. We also added in a couple orders of the chocolate lava cake. The inside wasn't even hot so there was no "lava flow." And it didn't seem very chocolaty. Did not seem like it was made fresh by Coasterra. It was just ok. Overall, I love the venue, but I think the prices are too high for the quality of the food. If that was stepped up and on point it would be more understandable. So I guess I have to give this place a weak 4 stars. Though I would love to give it a 5 because of the views and cool design of the venue. read more
The view is spectacular so if you get a chance to sit on the patio overlooking the city then do it! There are heaters and fans available on the patio as well. We came for dinner on a Monday night and it wasn't busy. My husband and I sat at the bar for a drink and we received good and friendly. service. When our friends arrived we were seated on the patio. Our server came up and greeted us. Water and chips and salsa was provided. The chips are warm and the salsa was pretty good. We filled up on these quickly. We ordered ceviche to share. The ceviche is good to share between 4 people but with only a bite. Better between 2-3 people. As my entree I ordered the grilled shrimp topped with chimichurri sauce. It was OK but felt needed a little more flavor. Maybe butter and salt? Love the side avocado salad and the rice side. I don't eat beans so I left them. My husband ordered the flank steak and quesadilla. The steak was super chewy and it was hard for me to chew. Had tons of flavor, salt and spice. Too salty for my palate however. For dessert we ordered the flan and churros. I didn't care for either unfortunately. I don't know if the churro was stale because it had a weird flavor and not crunchy. Came with a couple sauces - chocolate and caramel. Nonetheless, the ambiance, decor and service was on par. Great place to catch the sunset. There is a small self parking lot with limited spaces, otherwise valet is $7. read more

The problem with San Diego's fine dine restaurants are that they are never consistent. Coesterra used to be a high quality Mexican food restaurant. Now, you only pay for the view. House margaritas are made with the cheapest quality, you can taste the alcohol in the tequila. We ordered carne asada and carnitas. I guarantee you it was the re-heated plated. They served it in no time. Super salty carnitas, and super chewy carne asadas. Plate was not appealing at all, fried beans and rice was mushed on top of each other. The quality of the food is absolutely does NOT match the price. read more

Amazing view of downtown cityscape! Lots of outside dining. We felt safe. They had plenty of heaters. The food was delicious and the service was very attentive! The reservation process was super easy. Definitely recommend! read more

The outdoors atmosphere is amazing! The servers had the best attitudes. The drinks were something different & definitely worth trying. HOWEVER, the food does not match the same energy definitely a let down considering the prices of each dish. Speaking from today I'd say to avoid getting the Carnitas Quesadilla at all cost. It sounds good, the description mentions fries so I assumed they were going to be on the side but they were inside and literally like no more than a few sprinkles of meat inside. I was up for trying something new and I think I'd come back for the atmosphere and drinks but grab food else where. read more

CRG (as it is affectionately known) has done it again! They have carved out a space in a beautiful locale with some of the finest views in America's Finest City! This new shining star of the Cohn Restaurant Group has been christened and named: Coasterra! As semi regulars for date night at Vintana in North Couny (the luxury restaurant which sits atop the Lexus dealership in Escondido) and our annual tradition of enjoying fondue on New Year's Eve at the Melting Pot (located in the San Diego Gaslamp), we continue to visit CRG regularly and keep our eye on their chefs, specifically Chef Deborah Scott and on one of my favorite wine guys in San Diego, Maurice DiMarino. He oversees the wine and beverage business for CRG. He also puts together some of the best wine events in San Diego. We attended the Baja/Napa tasting at Sea 180 Coastal Tavern in Imperial Beach this year (my husband and I got engaged in the Guadalupe Wine Valley of Mexico and it's nostalgic to continue the experience of tasting Baja wines year after year). Sea 180 is another CRG gem on the beach! On this particular fine day in America's Finest City, the husband and I were interested in a view of the bay, some margarita's and Mexican food (sounds like a pretty typical day in the life of a San Diegan)! I knew it was also time to use the gift card from the Cohn Restaurant Group that my boss purchases for me each year (and really I don't mind, I only wish she would add a few more zero's at the end of the total)! I saw some previews for Coasterra and we were ready to explore the new site. After reading the menu with a modern flair on Mexican cuisine and looking over the margarita menu we were off! I ordered Deb's Coconut Margarita, with a coconut salt rim - the hook! I went with the enchilada and tamale combination plate for my entree. The tamale was definitely my line filled with crispy crimini mushroom, goat cheese, pomegranate seeds and smoked poblano cream! This is the best tasting cornmeal I have ever had. We shared the dessert which was surely the sinker...a brownie with dark chocolate glaze, orange zest ice cream topped with a chocolate gecko! Coasterra had me hook, line and sinker! Jeremy Cohn stopped by to check on his guests during our visit, he shared info on the new event center they are creating, called the Harbor Float. My husband and I look forward to returning in the evening for one of Maurice's fabulous events which he will host on the Harbor Float. Wow! Visited Coasterra for our monthly restaurant of the month (ROTM) and was truly pleased with my experience. The location is beautiful and everything about Coasterra just flows. I felt like I was ocean side on vacation somewhere beautiful and far away. Well, I was somewhere beautiful but not far away just here locally in my hometown- San Diego. You walk in and are welcomed by a breathtaking view of the harbor and the downtown skyline. As you make your way up to the front of Coasterra there is a huge glass door that opens up (as if you were walking into a beautiful resort)- nicely done. We walked to the hostess and were immediately greeted and walked to our table. We got seated in a booth inside and got what I thought one of the best seats in the house. Our waitress greeted us and brought us water while we waited for the rest of our group; she was very nice, patient and happy to answer all of our questions :) Sitting and waiting for our group was no pain given once again the view and the relaxed atmosphere with great Latin/Spanish inspired music playing in the background- perfect! It's my type of place. At one point Deborah Scott (the chef) was making rounds, and asked how our meal was, talk about a personal touch! Well done Coasterra. Onto the food: Our waitress brought us chips and salsa (the salsa had a nice consistency and was very good) We started off by ordering the queso fundido which is topped with chorizo, lobster pieces and chile poblano served with four mini flour tortillas, the queso was good but not to die for. It's made up of Monterey jack cheese and Chihuahua cheese. I prefer queso fundido with Oaxaca cheese! Ha Moving on I ordered the Seafood Enchiladas after reading Yelp reviews on them and the fact that they seem very different and unique. I must say I made the right choice as they were delicious and a very good size. The enchiladas come with shrimp, scallops and seabass. They are topped by a poblano cream (YUM), queso fresco and salsa verde and come with a sideof Mexican rice and black beans. I mainly noticed the shrimp inside, the cheese along with the rest of the seafood appears to be in the sauce and sorta blended in? All in all I was happy and content. I would recommend Coasterra to anyone looking for a nice meal with a beautiful view. Great place to take family from out of town or to celebrate a special occasion. Coasterra is reasonably priced given the food portions, the beautiful view and the overall atmosphere. I plan to come back for HH and sit outside on their beautiful deck. They have a bar area outside as well which makes for a nice date night with some good food ** Tip: They only offer valet parking which is $8, you can't park on their lot otherwise and there is limited parking outside on North Harbor. read more

Been here a few times and I must say that the view is AMAZING! Located next to Island Prime and part of the Cohen Restaurants, this restaurant is spacious and i enjoy coming here to hangout on a nice warm night. I enjoy the back bar since it's normally not that busy. The food to me is meh... I had the Chicken Mole and it lacked flavor but the chips were good. Overall, I'd return here for the drinks, chips & salsa and amazing view. read more
I really enjoyed this newish and stunning Cohn restaurant! This eatery has been on my list way before they opened, and I'm so glad we dined here for our 40th monthaversary! They are located right next to Island Prime/C Level, so you get the same panoramic view of the skyline and bay if you sit outside. We sat out on the patio even though it was cold, but luckily had a heat lamp right above our heads and were able to keep warm. I initially didn't want to eat here since we already had tacos the night before, but the menu is innovative and features modern Mexican cuisine. We received complimentary chips and salsa, which were both yummy, but the salsa would've been better if it was spicier. Our server asked for our drink orders while we browsed through the menu. I really wanted to try Deb's coconut margarita and my boyfriend got the strawberry sueno! He said his drink was missing the strawberry flavor, so he decided to get the same drink I got instead . For appetizers, we shared the mussels, calamari, and tableside-made guacamole. The "guacamigo" guy prepared our guacamole customized to our liking. There was a nice variety of add-ons and we opted for extra serrano peppers since we like everything spicy! It was so delicious I couldn't stop eating it. The mussels were also very good, but the bread that came with it was hard and a little burnt. My boyfriend really liked the calamari, so I let him finish it- the flavor was good and the batter was crunchy, but I prefer big chunks of calamari instead of the rings this dish came with. We were both getting kind of full by the time our entrees arrived, so we paced ourselves. I felt like having meat, so I ordered the corte en fuego, which consists of a blackened 14 ounce Angus new york strip, some corn and kale salad, and ranchero beans with chorizo. He got the carne asada and maine lobster. Both dishes were equally delicious in their own way. I can't comment on the beans since I don't like that stuff LOL. His carne was seasoned with spicy flavors, and my steak was also very nicely blackened. It was time for dessert and we got the tres leches and my boyfriend ordered a double espresso. He said his double espresso was more like a single shot and was expecting the the tres leches to be the traditional cake soaked with 3 kinds of milk, but this version also had lemon curd and toasted meringue. It was an interesting combination and we liked it a lot. Service was pretty good for the most part- our server was missing for long periods during each course and a little slow, but she was nice. The atmosphere is amazing and eatery is huge! I saw lounge chairs on the way to the bathroom and another area where you can walk along the harbor. This place is like meeting a woman that's completely beautiful the day you met her, then you start talking to her and realized that she's just not that bright. Then you realized that she has bad BO...=\ Walking into this stunning restaurant with probably one of the best restaurant views in all of San Diego, sat out on the patio for dinner. Had the steak and half lobster for dinner and A had the seabass. The steak is a flank steak which is a pretty cheap cut (good, but not worth the price), but the lobster was garlic buttery delicious. A friend made dinner reservations for us and I was thrilled with the views of Downtown San Diego and the Harbor. The views are intoxicating; add in there the 8 different margaritas and you'll be drunk with awe. We arrived early and were able to grab a seat at the bar. One of the patio's was filled with a party (wonder how far ahead one has to reserve to get that incredible view). Fortunately, we were seated early, too. Server was friendly and we were surrounded by many dates. One of the guys next to us had flowers and dessert waiting at the table upon his date's arrival. Nice! Oysters Frescos Carne Asada & Maine Lobster. YUM! I was too full to enjoy every bite of my entree. Adobo skirt steak was delicious, as was the half maine lobster w/chipotle garlic butter (Why do I waste room with chips & salsa?) The Cohn Group has done it again! What an amazing addition to the San Diego restaurant scene! I've had this place bookmarked to try solely because of the location. Any restaurant located right on the water like that is worth a try in my book. If for nothing else but a drink and a view! So, when we were looking for a place to eat lunch, I pulled Coasterra up and we decided to check it out. All I can say is WOW. First of all, the view is incredible. If you have out of town visitors in tow, definitely bring them here as it is sure to impress. Or, if you are from out of town yourself, check it out and see why us San Deigans are so proud to call this place our home! Once you've ooh-ed and ahh-ed at the views you'll likely notice that the design aesthetic is beautiful, classy and modern. The majority of the restaurant is located outside, for obvious reasons, but what is inside is beautiful. Once we were seated, we were greeted by our super friendly, very knowledgable waitress. And she was not just knowledgable about the food but about the restaurant as well. She told us all about the restaurant and was great with helping us pick out drinks. Not to mention, she was just genuinely friendly. She happily chatted with us while simultaneously reading our minds to refill our waters and salsa without us ever having to ask. She even came by and put more ice in our cups for our margaritas! She was awesome. Now for the food. I had a Pork taco and a chicken enchilada combo that came with rice and beans. The pork taco I had to eat with a fork because it was so juicy and heaped in a huge pile on my tortilla. I'm not complaining, though, I loved it! My chicken enchilada was stuffed full of tender chicken and it was incredibly flavorful as well! Overall, we were super impressed with the food (which we have come to expect with Cohn Group restaurants, anyways!). My only complaint was that I wished they served more rice and beans with the dish because they are SO good! Overall, I can't remember the last time I was this impressed with a restaurant. I will definitely be back and, in the meantime, I'll be telling everyone else they should check it out too! read more

Let me start by saying that first impressions are everything. I thought I made my reservations for Saturday evening, but made them for Sunday evening. The poor girl at the front kept asking me what my name was and I kept repeating myself. A guy who looked like a manager was next to her typing away on the computer. He finally breaks in to our conversation to notify us that our reservations were for the following night. OOPS!! He then says they will get us in and has transferred our Open Table reservation, so we won't lose our points. After a short ten minute wait we were seated. A+ for customer service!!! :) We asked to be seated on the patio and it is absolutely lovely out there. The view was amazing and the atmosphere is great. Kudos to the Cohn Group for another beautiful restaurant. Our server took our orders without rushing us, and we were able to sit and stare at the San Diego skyline and the fireworks going off in the distance...wow! We ordered the table side guacamole and also had chips and salsa. The salsa is almost a pureed consistency and had a great flavor. The chips were awesome too and seemed to be made from fresh tortillas. So yummy!! I ordered the carne asada plate, and my husband had the carne asada quesadilla. We also ordered the white corn soup. Our server came out with two soup bowls and told us that the white corn soup was not a full serving because they had run out, and she brought us another small bowl of the tortilla soup to make up for it. Another A+ for customer service by our server! The white corn soup is so, so good and has some crispy leeks on top...I had to stop myself from drinking it out of the bowl. The tortilla soup is good too and has a slightly smoky flavor. Our meals were good too, and the carne asada is a skirt steak that is served with a avocado salad, beans, rice and corn tortillas. I was stuffed by the time the meals arrived, but managed to eat about half my meal. We ordered the churros just to try them out because so many other Yelpers had recommended them. The chocolate and caramel sauces are really good and the churros were warm and covered in cinnamon sugar. Mmmmmmm. I would definitely go back and sit out on the patio. We had great service, and our food was better than we had expected. Deborah Scott has hit it out of the park with the menu she has constructed, and we would love to go back and try some new items on the menu!! Give Coasterra a try!! read more
Absolutely loved this spot during our trip to San Diego recently. Gorgeous space on the waterfront, massive restaurant, with multiple bars, grand open views and very spacious seating. We were all very impressed by the location, the construction, and the friendly staff. I can see why this is quickly becoming a go-to spot for locals to get Mex-Fusion food and drinks. - We had group guac, chips, cheeses, and salsas to start with and I couldn't shove the great food in my face fast enough. - I had some kind of watermelon, fruity margarita and it was huge and I loved it. - I got a combination platter with an enchilada (with a very chocolaty mole sauce that was OUT OF THIS WORLD), a verde chili burrito with chicken, and a stuffed chili that was pretty damned good by itself. To say I was super full after this meal was an understatement...totally fat, and happy. I had to call an Uber Black to find a car big enough to haul my ass to the hotel after this massive lunch feast. We all (party of 8) loved the food. Honestly it was a better meal than the wedding we attended 2 days later...and we didn't wait long for our table, thanks to the reservation. We had great hosts and servers. And surprisingly the bill wasn't bad for 8 people to eat and drink and drink. Super impressed! read more

Had this place bookmarked for a while, while trying to make reservations for a couple weeks we finally were able to get one. Every Saturday for weeks was booked so we were happy to at least find an opening on Sunday. My boyfriend and I came on a Sunday at 5pm, the parking lot only has 2 small rows of available parking. Which of course was all taken, the rest of the huge parking lot was for valet. We pulled up and decided to do valet ($7-which they can add to your bill). The views from this restaurant are breathtaking, the decor is also very nice. I was surprised to see how large the outside patio was, so we decided to sit outside. We were immediately brought over chips and salsa (delicious salsa), we also ordered a side of guacamole which was very spicy! I ordered the Nobel margarita which was a let down, I wasn't a fan of it and for $16 it was very small. I finished that within a couple sips so then decided to order the strawberry sueno hoping I would like it better. We started with the ceviche which was excellent! Our waiter was very friendly and treated us as if he knew us. When we were ready to order I got the carne asada and lobster and my boyfriend ordered the combo with carne asada, quesadilla, and tostada. Our waiter told him if he could suggest something else for him because "the tostada is horrible" and he wanted him to enjoy his meal. He suggested the carne asada, quesadilla and avocado salad. He said with that you get more meat, more quesadilla and the salad is very delicious. So my boyfriend agreed to get that instead, since we have never had a waitress tell us what he planned to order was "horrible". So we trusted him... My strawberry margarita comes out and it's delicious! Better than the Nobel in my opinion. Moments later our food comes out, very fast. The carne asada was perfectly cooked and we both loved it. My lobster was average, could of been more tender. Overall I loved my meal and I thought the avocado salad was very delicious as well. My boyfriend also enjoyed his meal but unfortunately wasn't a fan of the salad, the quesadillas on the other hand were the best quesadillas we've ever had. They were outstanding, highly recommend them. Overall we had a great dinner! The view is just incredible. We decided to order desert our waiter once again told us "the only thing worth getting is the Churros and the butter cake". Since we had already planned on the Churros we decide to get that. The Churros were delicious best Churros ever, although we wished it came with ice cream instead. The chocolate and Carmel was just a little to heavy. Once we were finished with our food our waiter asks us if we would like to pay for the valet on the check which was great. And that our car would be ready for us once we leave which it was! Great time, great food, great service never saw the bottom of our glasses. Highly recommended this place. read more
Came here early evening on a weekend to beat the crowd, also got lucky enough to snag a free parking spot. I had tried to make a reservation earlier but they said that the reservations (for inside) were full but they did not take reservations for the patio. When i got there it all became clear, there were not very many tables inside 2 or 3 maybe, the vast majority of the seating is patio seating. I started with the Ahi tostada, It looked beautiful; raw seasoned ahi, topped with cabbage slaw, avocado, spiced tortilla strips, and peanuts. Basically an ahi poke tostada. It was delicious; the tender, flavorful ahi, had a great textural contrast to the tortilla and crispy cabbage. For my Entree i got the Mar Y Tierra (surf and turf) Braised short rib on top of a lobster risotto cake with mole sauce and topped off with a lobster claw. The short rib was super soft and tender, OMG so good with the mole. Not to many upscale places offer mole so i jumped at the chance to try Costterra's version of it, and im glad i got it. The risotto cake didn't have a very strong lobster taste to it, i think it was lost a bit in the wonderful mole sauce which was not a bad thing at all. The risotto cake had a nice crisp exterior and was delicious and provided great contrast to the soft tender short rib. The piece of lobster claw meat on top was a little bonus it was soft and tender and perfectly cooked. I'd order this dish again and again. For dessert i had the coconut flan, the flavor was spot on nice delicious caramelized sugar and coconut flavor. The texture was dense and creamy, i prefer mine a bit softer, but thats just a personal preference and I'm nit picky about flan so go ahead and order it! It's delicious! Despite the delicious food, the reason you come to Coastearra is the VIEW! Its got to be The best view of the San Diego sky line! The other might be from the top of the Hilton or Hyatt or which ever bar that is that gives you a view of the bay. But as far as being right on the water and overlooking the SD skyline this is it! The layout of the restaurant is perfect, all the walls are interior and hide the kitchen and prep area, and all the exterior barriers are made of glass so that you can take advantage of the beautiful view. The space has a very indoor/outdoor feel to it, like someones covered back patio. Don't forget about Deb's coconut margarita, $7 during Happy Hour. It was not as coconutty as i imagined, the drink still held on to its margarita backbone it was more lime with a hint of coconut. Most of the coconut flavor came from the salted coconut dusted rim which was delicious and made the whole drink. Definitely a drink worth getting. The parking is 95% valet, there are a small handful of spots to the right as you enter if you're lucky enough to snag one. Other than that its $5 vallet during lunch hours and $7 during dinner hours. Don't be discouraged by the fact that the reservations are almost always full, because there are no reservations for the patio which is 95% of the seating so its pretty much first come first served. There is also an area around the back bar which can be reserved for private parties, its a nice open space and i could see this as the perfect space for a small wedding or some event where you'd want a nice view. read more

Looking for one of the best views of downtown and the bay? Then head down to Coasterra on Harbor Island. They have a gorgeous balcony looking over the bay where you could see the docked Navy ships, jet skis, and boats cruising along the water. For an appetizer, we got the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp came in a large glass. There must have been 15 good sized shrimp in there! They were cooked well, but I think the cocktail sauce they were swimming in could have used more flavor. The app came with a side of tortilla chips, that had an OK crunch to them. For entrees, we go the steak quesadilla and the tacos mixto. The steak quesadilla came more like separated tacos. You took a fresh tortilla and sliced up some meat and added some vegetables and you got a...quesadilla? I prefer them more like tacos because the steak was incredible tender and flavorful. Overall, my mixto tacos were pretty good. The shrimp was really good, the pulled pork was nice and tender, but I thought the whitefish was a bit overcooked and dry. The side of beans was really salty, but the Spanish rice was spot on. It seems like my dishes at Coasterra could use some fine tuning, but overall it was a good experience. 3.5 stars read more

The overall experience was ok with service showing at least some effort and convincing me to have the Mescal cocktail, which was impressive. The food was interesting but not too memorable, my wife's trout was really good. My veggie winter bowl could have used more seasoning, but the queso fundido appetizer was delicious. One of the things that made us a little bit sour, that I specifically mentioned it was an 18th birthday but no mention at all was done. We are not looking for free cheese cake, ( we actually did order churros) but the restaurant blatantly ignoring it disappointing. Smells like poor restaurant leader ship to me. read more
My friends and I were born and raised in SD yet we had never been here. SMH ...horrible I know. Lol. So the best part of this place is location, location,location... you have the SD skyline right there. We arrived around sunset but the clouds covered it so we didn't really have those sunset pics. Nightfall though....good God...GORGEOUS. The self parking lot has like 20 spots so unless you're going to be that creeper on the side stalking people to see if they parked there so you can take their spot, just go do the valet, it's $8 bucks rockstar...you can handle that chump change lol. The restaraunt itself is clean, classy and modern. The servers were hit and miss as we had 2 servers. We had one server from the moment we had arrived. She rarely checked on us and hell we didn't even know she had left because she legit abandoned us lol. We had to ask a completely unknown server for boxes and the bill, because our server was nowhere to he found. She didn't excuse herself saying she was going on break or that she was leaving, (which is something in my experience that they usually do). I mean for all we know she could have jumped into the water to play with the fishies and never come back. So that was annoying because we sat there looking for her for a while. Anywho like I mentioned above the view is legit the best part of the restaraunt, you can't get a better shot of the SD skyline. You feel an immense sense of pride seeing that skyline. Now let's talk about the food.... soooo being 3 Mexican girls that have moms that cook the best Mexican food in the worllllldddd we are biased...because hello....we are Mexican lol. The tableside guac and salsa with chips are actually bomb.com.org.gov. If you go back on my Mexican food reviews I am very picky and critical when it comes to the beans, horchata, salsa and my usual green enchiladas. Being that at this restaraunt they dont have green enchiladas and horchata so be mindful of that. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa itself was delicious. My bestie and I literally fought over it. I was quicker with my to go container that they gave us so I got the salsa lol. The tableside guac was delish...it rivals my sisters guac and that sh** Is fire! So well done Edwin (our table side guacamigo I believe that was his name). We all ordered the carne asada as it was recommended by our server when I asked her to choose the best entree from the 2 I couldn't decide on. The rice and beans were okay, nothing to brag about. I did like the meat as it was tender and juicy...it wasn't really "carne asada" though, so don't think of it that way. It's flank marinated steak thats tender and juicy with some green salsa drizzled on top. Green salsa is usually my preference but this green salsa drizzled on top was not popular at the table, we ended up adding the salsa from the chips and salsa because the green salsa didn't really have much flavor. That's a big thing for me because green salsa is usually full of flavor, this one wasn't. :( I wish I could give it 5 stars for the view, scenery , our 2nd server being helpful (shout out to Morgan), salsa for the chips and guacamole (our cool guacamigo Edwin). BUT we gotta be honest right, and the food is most important, when you pay $30+ for a plate you're hoping it's worth it and although it was okay we felt it wasnt worth the price. Now don't get me wrong...are we coming back someday?! ...YES...perhaps we will try something else but I don't think we would get the carne asada plate again.
