Wanted to visit after this place being recommended by a coworker. Was unfamiliar with the area. Headed in at 1:38pm to be immediately informed by servers "we actually close at 2" no other greeting, no smiles, nothing welcoming. Having managed restaurants this was absurd to me. If you want to be out the door at 2pm make your posted hours show closed at 1:30. Really poor customer service, will not be back, and will be sure to tell at least 10 other people not to go here as well. Improve your service standard :) read more

Do happy people simply make better food? I felt tempted to ask where the Cobblestone cook had the happy spice. Super friendly place, staffed apparently by lots of good friends. All the individual ingredients of my roast beef hash were recognizable and properly cooked. That is rare. Not at all greasy, the potato, onions and sweet peppers clearly were cooked separately before being combined with chopped beef. Not a typical fry cook technique. These are expert cooks. Very cute little breakfast place. We ventured out for the dog days event and wound up here for breakfast. The place was packed. We waited for an outdoor table. They have about 6-7 outdoor tables outside. Did not notice how big the inside was, but did notice there were a lot of people in there. I think there was only one server for the entire outdoor area. A lot of people were waiting for drinks, menus, food. We were not in a rush so we understood. Food Ordered: Eggs Benedict- good Italian Scramble Hash- was said to be very good. The cake itself was better than average, especially for a small town cafe: made from scratch batter, flavor, soak ability, texture were all nicely done. I don't believe in shaming, but the smuckers high fructose corn syrup is unacceptable for anyplace claiming pancake credibility. Don't let the old school decor scare you!!!!! Driving through WBL, decided to stop for breakfast, found this place on google, so glad we did. Nice small cafe, great food with large portions. We got lucky and sat right down. About 15 minutes into our meal, the line got pretty long, so expect a wait, but worth it. Hash browns were cooked perfectly, eggs were great. But best of all, the bacon was thick and crispy, not all limp and greasy like most places. Prices were ok, especially for the service and portion sizes. read more

We had some relatives in town this past weekend and decided to go out to breakfast. We picked the cobblestone café to give them a local feel and to visit downtown White Bear Lake. As usual the Cobblestone came through for us. Our relatives were impressed and noted that this reminded them of the small-town diners in Minnesota and North Dakota that we have fond memories of. It brought back stories of the two diners in Grafton ND that were across the street from each other. Both now long closed. The breakfast was good and the service was above average. If you are looking for a good breakfast spot when in the White Bear Lake area check out the cobblestone. When winter comes check it out for lunch. A quaint gem in Downtown White Bear Lake! No extra frills here. The interior is small and somewhat cramped, but very cozy on a lazy morning or early afternoon. A sidewalk patio adds many additional seats, and these appeared to be self-seating, first come first serve. If fancy is your thing - I wouldn't come here. Although I have yet to encounter this mysterious "grease" smell others have written about, it certainly isn't a neo-dive breakfast diner. It's truly a dive for older diner dwellers to drink coffee and read the paper. Nothing ironic about the older fixtures here. The dull grey menu has the goods, though: Easily the best hash browns at a restaurant that doesn't try to brag. Buscuits and gravy are also delicious, and the portions are not so big - a downside for some, as many have pointed out the food could be considered slightly over priced. I personally disagree, but to each their own. French toast is flavored bread if you order it that way! Interesting discovery. Raspberry swirled bread battered and fried is delicious! The wraps are also quite good, as are the burgers. They have limited seating options inside, and in the Summer, the patio is BOOMING. Anticipate a wait to sit on the plastic tables and chairs line the sidewalk - but beware, the service is terrible outside. This is not a quick lunch sort of joint on a Sunday outside. If you can handle waiting an extra 10 minutes for refills, then go ahead and sit outside. If you're in the area with nowhere else to go, then I'd recommend it. But with Keys Cafe just up the road, it does seem silly they wouldn't try a little harder. read more

I got up early for this??? :( Everything has to be original in this place and not in a quaint way. There were only a handful of people in the place and most were elderly. Food and Drink: Coffee-Love that they give you the entire pot ! Kudos for that but it was not good coffee. It was weak Folgers or something like that but at least it was plentiful! Food- Picky Me- I knew in my heart, the veggies might not be fresh, so I opted for the safe option of french toast. It was good but not great. That's all, I was too scared to try anything else. Di-Omelette with several ingredients but she said the mushrooms were canned. No surprise to me but overall, she said it was fine. The hash browns were prepared crispy as she asked, and the toast looked good. I brought the teenager a Buffalo Chicken wrap home and she said it was really good so that might be a safe option. She eats this everywhere so she is a pretty good judge. Why three stars? Our server, Shannon, was incredibly sweet and nice. She was attentive and even though she was in the process of moving, she still was a happy girl and interacted with all the customers in a fun way. Guaranteed the cook tried to split a normal order with anther plate because they take so long to cook and the waitress didn't care to say something. 1/2 full plastic ramekins of salsa and watery sour cream that they didn't take the lid off of. Came to 14 dollars before tip. You be the judge. Classic example of owners/operators being completely ok with mediocrity. If there was a downtown cafe nearby they would step up the game in a week. Might as well be in askov MN. You can just see the "well if you don't like it, go somewhere else " attitude. Seems like customers are more content with plastic chairs on the sidewalk than the actual stuff on the plate. Everything the cobblestone gets away with is all because of location and lack of competition. Go to Beartown if you want better food. Or keys.
