Love this place! Best steak of my life! Sat by the fireplace on my birthday. Great host, server, and cook!

We loved our visit to this restaurant from beginning to end. It was a busy night with an event at the Hockey stadium. We couldn't get an earlier reservation so we decided to arrive early and see if maybe we could be seated. It was just two of us and they got us right in. It smelled great with a very open concept. You could see where they were cooking from our table which was in the adjoining room. They brought us water right away and we had time to look at the menu before our waitress arrived. She was friendly and made the experience really fun. We were ready to order and she helped me decide on the horseradish mashed potatoes which were so good. I had the grilled shrimp and vegetable skewers my husband had a Mediterranean pizza. We loved our food and experience. We made it to our show on time.

This was a great place for our family get together. The beef kebabs and steak salad were both amazing. Even the basmati rice seemed especially good. Our server was amazing. Ambiance was very relaxed and soothing.

Great service from the host when you enter to our server, Pavel. Both were friendly and helpful. 5 star service. We began with the guacamole and a mountain of homemade chips. Better than expected for Minnesota and I recommend it. The Greek salad was very good and very fresh. Lots of romaine lettuce (a true Greek salad really has no lettuce, but this is the USA). The sirloin steak sandwich was ok. Very good fries. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare as requested. However, the steak didn't have much flavor. I wouldn't order it again.

We did a Valentine's dinner here and it was lovely. The full menu was available with several specials. We started with shrimp cocktail which featured 6 large shrimp in a martini glass full of cocktail sauce. So good. I chose the swordfish and husband had the halibut special. We each wanted the other's veggie option so we switched those out when the plates came. Everything was very good. The swordfish was served kabob style. Would have been better with something a little more colorful and textured than the side of rice, but it was a lighter meal which left room for a chocolate lava cake and ice cream. Yummm! They had a piano player playing great Valentine's music when we were there. A great touch for a special night. I also love the woodfire aroma that hits you when you enter. So warm and cozy. We snagged a parking spot in their lot right next door. Not a lot of spaces in there so it was a good find. Our service was excellent. Great date night.

Great food, great service and they actually had wild salmon, which most restaurants in the area do not have.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my dinner at the Downtowner Woodfire Grill! We had a reservation for a group of 10 for 6:30, and even though we got there a little bit early, the hostess still sat us immediately and provided us with water and fresh dinner rolls. (Make sure to try one with some garlic butter!) I really loved the dimly-lit Italian-cafe vibe of the dining room, especially the water fountains behind the bar. Our table was right in the middle of the restaurant with booths surrounding us, but it didn't feel crowded at all. We also sat right near the woodfire grill, which was a fun experience. This restaurant is one of the few places in downtown St. Paul that serves Coke products, and they also have an extensive selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and cocktails. Our servers, Allegra and Clay, made sure our drinks were always full and personally attended to the needs of the people in my party with food allergies. They were overall great waiters and treated us very kindly. For dinner, I was stuck between the Margherita pizza and the Amish chicken, but ultimately decided on the pizza. I was a little disappointed in my decision, as the pizza was more like a flatbread with very chewy dough and not enough sauce. I was impressed, however, with Woodfire Grill's menu options for vegetarian guests, which I noticed because two people in my party were vegetarian. I ended the night with the flourless chocolate torte, which was so rich and dense it tasted like a piece of fudge. It was so delicious that I was tempted to ask for the recipe to recreate it at home! Overall, my group had a quality meal at the Woodfire Grill for a reasonable price, and I would definitely frequent this restaurant if I lived in St. Paul!

    NEW ZEALAND LAMB CHOPS
    Paul M.

The food was okay not the best lamb chops I've had, but certainly not the worst. The chops were chewy side not too tender, but the flavor was okay. Service was decent considering the size of our party. The ambiance was more of an upscale feel with the low light vibe.

Delicious food! Great service! Relaxing and calm atmosphere! Love the smell of the wood burning stove as you walk in.

    Prime New York Strip

Blending a bit of a bar/grill atmosphere with something a bit more upscale, Downtowner had some surprisingly nice eats for an unplanned stop. On a Saturday night, we were lucky to get one of the very last tables. Service was decent enough - a little slow early on but got better as the evening progressed. The halibut was fantastic, albeit a Valentine's weekend special, so may not be on the menu in the future. It was light and excellently paired with saffron potatoes and bok choy. The NY Strip was solid, but definitely benefited from a nicely prepared in-house steak sauce with a bit of kick. Without that, it would have been an average steak dish for the Minneapolis area. With, it was slightly above. Downtowner is a nice little stop for a bit more upscale dinner in St. Paul.

    Moe's Cajun Breakfast

The Downtowner Woodfire Grill - St. Paul, MN (February 7, 2025) Today, I tried the Belgian waffle topped with strawberries and blueberries ($17.00), paired with crispy bacon ($6.00) on the side. My husband had the stuffed French toast with strawberries ($16.00) and coffee ($4.00). Both dishes were absolutely delicious! Another favorite of ours is Moe's Cajun Breakfast - it's a must-try. With these three options alone, you can't go wrong. The ambiance of the restaurant is top-notch as well. If you're looking for a fantastic breakfast experience, don't miss out on this place!

    Kids alfredo
    Michelle H.

The restaurant is beautiful, if you don't look too closely and keep your eyes away from the corners, and I love the multiple fireplaces! The service was also good. The food, however, isn't as good. We started with bruschetta and it was kind of bland. I do wonder if part of the problem was that tomatoes aren't in season right now. The bread they bring to the table was also odd - it was like a chewy tortilla. The seasoned butter was good, but I couldn't stomach even one piece of bread. I had a Caesar salad for my meal and it also wasn't that good. I'm not sure what it was about the dressing, but it didn't really taste like other Caesar dressings. My daughter had noodles with alfredo sauce from the kids menu and she loved it. I tried it and it was pretty good! Wish I had gotten the adult alfredo instead of the salad. We finished with the molten lava cake, but it was a flop. It was overcooked by a lot so there was no molten chocolate, and it had a slight burnt taste to it. I was disappointed because molten lava cake is my favorite dessert and I had high expectations. Parking is a nightmare, but that's to be expected in this area. That being said, this rating and review is based off of this one experience and I'd try this restaurant one more time, to try different foods.

The pastry had perfect crisp flaky texture and the savory and salty mix of the cheese and demi glaze were delectable. Next we had mussels which were also amazing. The white wine broth was seasoned beautifully and soaking it up with the accompanying crusty bread was divine. For our main we shared the gnocchi with mushrooms and asparagus. The sauce was the perfect mix of creamy, lemony, and salty. The textures and tastes were simply perfect. We didn't save room for dessert but got the piña colada sorbet anyway. The sorbet was delicious but the toasted coconut is what made the dish our fourth 10/10. The service was kind, quick, and courteous. The ambience was close and talkative but cute. There were also some nice seats on the patio which were quieter and also very cute. We will be back. Often.

The space itself is beautiful with a really cozy ambiance, and the patio is a great option when the weather is nice. The drinks are absolutely the star of the show. You can tell there is so much intention behind both the flavors and the presentation. The cocktail menu is super creative, and the Old Fashioned menu alone is phenomenal with so many unique options. The Beorn Old Fashioned was my favorite. We also tried the Payanello (pineapple, lime, ginger, pickled jalapeño) and it was incredible. Food was fantastic as well. The brussels sprouts were so good and a must order. Service was amazing. Our server was so kind, helpful, and gave great recommendations, which made the whole experience even better. It is on the pricier side, especially for drinks, but honestly worth it for the quality and experience. Reservations are easy to make and I would definitely recommend booking ahead. We also tried their new Irish Spice Bag, but unfortunately it wasn't a favorite. The dish was a little bland, and the curry sauce could have used more seasoning. Our only complaint is that the tables are fairly close together and a 2 person table is so small! It kept us from ordering more food, because there would be no place for it to go! Our server was nice. She originally forgot our drinks but admitted it and got them right away. We appreciated the honesty. After seeing so many 5 star reviews I was curious if it would live up to the hype... it definitely does!! Service was fantastic and very attentive. We were given a description of the various cuts of meat which helped us decide what to try. My table ordered a domestic wagyu zabuton steak and a picanha steak. For sides we ordered the Caesar salad, grilled mushrooms and the tallow fries. The Caesar salad came out first. This dish set the bar high. It has a unique blend of herbs and spices adorning a bed of crunchy romaine and fried oysters that elevated this dish. Must try if you are in the mood for a salad. The steaks and sides came out next and were shareable. Between the two steaks the wagyu was the better choice. Melt in your mouth and seasoned to perfection. The picanha had great flavor but was definitely tough to cut. I'll just order the wagyu next time. The steaks come with a side of sauce. We ordered the chimichurri and llagua. I liked the chimichurri the best between these sauces. The mushrooms were marinated so well and had a rich umami flavor. The tallow fries were crispy and salty. I would get either of these sides again. We finished our dinner with the "burnt" cheesecake. Which featured strawberry rhubarb compote on top. Save room for this desert! It was so good! We went on a busy Saturday night and found parking in a nearby garage. They offer valet but we didn't notice it until we had already parked. This place does get busy so definitely keep that in mind. Luckily I made reservations ahead of time so we had a table waiting for us, otherwise we would have been put on a waiting list since it's a small space. They put us in a corner booth which was nice and spacious enough for 4 people so I'd definitely recommend asking for a booth verse a table if you're planning to come with a larger group. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. I appreciated their attentiveness and sharing what they like best, especially for what's in season based on the time of year. The menu has quite a bit of variety too which is sometimes unexpected when you come to a pub-style location. For appetizers we got Onion Ring and Fried Pickles. They were both really good and served with dipping sauces. Definitely both shareable items so if you're in a group they'd be great options! My entree I chose the Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon served with lemon soy marinade, creamy cucumbers, and jasmine rice -- it was SO good!! I loved the creaminess of the cucumbers especially with the rice and than the lemon soy marinade was just a unique touch to the salmon. Toned the flavors down without overpowering acidity. And the salmon was so dreamy, a beautiful pink color that you just knew it wasn't a farm raised salmon. Plus the portion was very generous!! I'd definitely recommend the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon to anyone interested in visiting here. #eatwildsavewild The only negatives (which are more so just knowledge bombs for you): * Restaurant is VERY loud. It's hard to hear because it is one small room that everyone plus the bar is in. I wished I would have took a picture to show what I mean. Just know that if it's an intimate setting you're looking for this is not the place. So be prepared to talk loudly over the loudness and ask "excuse me?" or "repeat that" many times throughout your visit because you're not going to hear everything. * Timed eating. Because this place is a hit with limited seating, once you get a table and complete your meal/payment you'll kindly be asked to leave so that they can clean up and open the table to next in line. Totally get that and am not put off by this at all, but I could see how it could catch some folks off guard especially if you are out for a meal with folks you may not see frequently-- so just keep that in mind. This is not the place to sit and talk post meal. * Parking is limited. Be prepared to walk a few blocks as the road parking in front of the business is pretty limited especially with the other stores and restaurants in the area. Regardless of those few bullets I highly recommend folks visit George & The Dragon. It's a really cool spot and the food was great! Plus theirs a malt shop right next door that looks yummy too, so definitely worth visiting and getting malts after for dessert.

I started with the tequila and mezcal Old Fashioned, and it was fantastic. It was well-balanced, beautifully presented, and garnished perfectly. The food was equally impressive. The wings were delicious--crispy, well-seasoned, and cooked perfectly. My only small note would be that the celery was a little limp. The Caesar salad has officially been added to my regular rotation. The jammy egg was cooked perfectly with a rich, yolky center that was still easy to slice. The Parmesan crisps were thoughtfully sized, adding great texture without being so large they scraped the roof of your mouth. The salad was evenly dressed, making every bite flavorful. Overall, excellent food, outstanding cocktails, and warm, attentive service. I'll definitely be back.

We ate at Baldamar for lunch. It has been a long time since I've been over in Roseville so I was…read moresurprised when we rolled up to find such a large building in the parking lot of the mall. The restaurant itself is really beautiful and it's also very big. I guessed 200 seats plus patio. The space is very elegant, and clearly a lot of attention went into the design. I would describe it as kind of modern steakhouse vibe. Dark wood, faux fur and leather finishes, etc. Elegant. We were seated at a booth by the bar with a big window view of the patio and parking lot. We were immediately slightly offput because the marble ledge separating the booth from the window was dirty - grease and little food crumbs. Not the best first impression. The booth and table were both clean though. Our waitress, Ash, did provide good service but I would say honestly she was a bit too attentive if that makes sense, and she was also too chatty for us. There were several times when she lingered at our table to tell us something we didn't inquire about or to just talk about something. It was a bit annoying honestly. But the service itself was good. We were also visited by a manager during our visit. We each got a mocktail (it was lunch) but they have an impressive drink menu. I got the Red Rose which was really tasty, and my husband got the pineapple drink, which he also said was good. -We ordered the chimichuri shrimp appetizer, which was pretty banging. Four really large shrimp, each on its own piece of bruschetta, doused in chimichuri sauce. Even for me, with a low spice tolerance, it was just the right amount of spice and it was really really good. -We also got a round of oysters. The oysters themselves were fresh - no complaints there. When they were delivered to our table, the person did not tell us which variety was which (pretty standard when serving oysters at any restaurant). Because we eat oysters a lot and one of the varieties was sweet petite, it was fairly easy to tell which was which. But in my opinion, there should have been information given when the oysters were served. The other big issue was the shucking. Some of the oysters hadn't been fully separated from the shell, and we both found ourselves picking bits of shell from our mouths. We actually had a little discussion about the $6 price tag. I felt it was reasonable, my husband felt it was high. But for $6 apiece, the oysters need to be shucked properly and these were not. Ash also made a point to tell us all kinds of information we didn't ask for about their happy hour, which includes $3 oysters. That would be a steal if they learn how to shuck them. -I got the half french dip sandwich, and I was really glad I just ordered the half because what I was served was totally a whole sandwich in my book. The accompanying fries were delicious, crispy, deep golden brown and hot. The au jus served with the sandwich was slightly on the salty side but not terrible. And I do realize it's au jus. In all it was a pretty decent sandwich. -Hubby got the sea bass sandwich, which was also pretty tasty. I'll be honest and say that I think the entree sea bass would have been better. The fish was so good that I don't honestly think you needed the bun. But it was really good and fresh and delicious. We skipped dessert. In all, a pretty solid dining experience and the food was very good. But it was the minor things mentioned that bothered us, so 3 stars with room for improvement upon our return.
