This is a really nice New-England-Fancy restaurant in the heart of Lowell. It has that quaint New-England vibe to it in that it's in an old building which has different rooms, old wooden floors and trim - old walls - and older setup. It's quaint; there's a little bar room off to one side, another private room you could use for a private party, and the main dining area. Service and food was great. It's your typical New England fare - short rib, half-chicken, mac n cheese, etc. I had the pork 'osso bucco' which is slow rosted pork shank still on the bone. It was very good but a bit too salty for me, and I like salty foods! They had a crispy-pork-skin appetizer, but I'd pass on that one. It's tough to eat while remaining classy in front of your date! Mixed drinks were OK. I had to have them hold off on muddling fruit into my old fashioned. I hate when they do that! Desert was awesome - we had some kind of indian pudding thing - I can't quite remember, and their deserts aren't listed on their website! Parking was a mess - they have a tiny lot next to the restaurant, and it's one way - so it's impossible to get out of! But - we managed. Nice place. We had lunch here when we went to the National Park in Lowell a couple weeks ago on a Sunday. The ambiance was very nice with live music by a young violinist. The menu featured brunch and lunch items. I chose a veggie egg skillet which was presented in the cast iron skillet in which it was cooked on a plate, with home fries on the side. The skillet had a nice quantity of sautéed mushrooms, squash, and I think peppers, cheese, topped with eggs. It was delicious. My husband wasn't so lucky. He ordered fish tacos which appeared as 3 cold flour tortillas filled with chopped lettuce and shredded carrots, lots of sliced red onions, and little pieces of breaded fish that looked to be of the frozen type. When the waitress came over to ask us how everything was my husband told her it wasn't really what he expected. She was great, and offered to get him something else, which he declined. We would hope that the fish tacos get a revamp or get removed from the menu. We were not charged for the tacos when our bill came. Our service was great. read more

It was a neat old building (Mill) but had a weird smell (smelled like Halitosis) the good news was after a while you got use to it. I was with a large group of friends and was able to sample a lot of items. Buffalo Tenders (Amazing), Truffle Fries (Good), Calamari (Great, but small portion), Cajun Blackened Prime Rib (Good), (Horseradish), garlic whipped potatoes (OK) and Asparagus (Good). I've never sat in the dining room, always in the bar, so I can't speak to that dining experience, but the bar area is a great place to be. Its got some of the best "bar" food around, although you can order off the entire menu. The only problem is there is just not enough seating. On friday and saturday nights, its tough to get a table, but when you do, you never want to leave. read more

Was in search of a place in the Greater Lowell area with a solid oyster selection and Cobblestones was that place. These savory delicacies served on the half shell were fresh and meaty. My steak was cooked perfectly, although my sauteed spinach was closer to average. Drink list was extensive and I was excited to find a place with Anchor Steam on draft. A beautiful historic building, very friendly waitstaff. Convenient parking. Nice full bar. Close to historic district. I'm afraid the food and the drinks were not much to write home about. Everything was OK until dessert took 20+ minutes to arrive. We asked for the bill to be brought right away. It came, the late desserts weren't on it. We thought "good management, $5 in ingredients buys our good will back..." Paid it, signed it, ready to leave. Another bill now shows up... for the late desserts. We were in town for business and coming from the NY area and having eaten earlier in the trip in Boston we had low expectations in this relatively small city. We were pleasantly surprised to find some excellent food and service! Oysters on the half shell, Oysters Rockefeller, Truffle Potatoes, Jumbo Sea Scallops, Cajun Prime Rib...all very good! My husband and I are frequent here. We really enjoy the atmosphere, we love the outdoor patio and most of all the service! We have befriended the bartender! Who doesn't love their bartender! Liz is awesome, she's always so friendly and super cool!! All the food is great...except...the fries...they are our least favorite ever! I think you need to have thicker cut fries that way there is still some potato to them! Either way... 5 stars!!! read more

Great casual Lowell bar (unlike most of the other bars in Lowell, they can get a little aggressive). I've also been to a few events here (Baby shows, holiday parties, etc.) and they have always been great. I like this place, definitely not a dive bar. Hadn't been to Cobblestones in years and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Three of us went in on an off night for a few drinks in the bar and then dinner in the dining room. Beer selection on tap was top notch, and the service was great. Amongst the group we had sirloin steak, prime rib, and a scallop dish. All were cooked perfectly to order. Will be going back. The also do a comedy night once a month that I hear is a pretty good take. read more

We love Cobblestones for a night out for dinner or a drink at the bar on the weekend! The service is always fabulous and there are so many options on the menu! For appetizers we love the boneless chicken wings and the fried brie (love this appetizer but this is would be even better baked) I've had the salads and sandwiches but a steak or chicken parm is the best way to go. Had my daughter's baby shower at Cobblestones in July. Everything was fabulous. We needed to change the date at the last minute which also meant less people, and the staff was so understanding. This place is great for a business dinner. I had the bolognese and it was fabulous. Everyone's dinner came out in reasonable time and everyone seemed very satisfied with their meals. The drinks selection was ample and the bar area was really nice to just sit and have a relaxing drink before your meal or if you just wanted to do apps and drinks. My only complaint really was some off putting smells - the menus had a smell of varnish to them and there was a smell that was reminiscent of decay in the dining area. Cobblestones has a nice atmosphere and good drinks, but it's expensive for what it is, and the service is painfully slow, especially in the dining room. I wish the menu had more variety, but the food I've had is good--just expensive. For a Nice Dinner in downtown Lowell, I like Centro better for both atmosphere and food. When I say that the service at Cobblestones is slow, I mean that on more than one occasion, I've wondered if the staff forgot about us. We missed a movie when we had budgeted plenty of time for dinner because of the slow service. I don't know what the problem is, but I hope they address it soon. read more

The bar here gets four stars... great beer selection, very good food (the mac and cheese is my fave) and friendly atmosphere. I've had dinner in the bar area here at least a dozen times and have been very satisfied. Can't comment on the restaurant side as I have not tried it. read more

I've dined at Cobblestones several times now and have yet to have a bad experience. It is a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food and service make it well worth the price. We dined here recently with our parents, and had a really lovely time. I had the short ribs, which was good, my hubby had the sea bass, and both parents had the filet mignon, which they said was very good. The dining room is on the formal side, although the dress ranges from casual to business casual. The bar is off in a separate room and was very popular. There was a little push for their sister restaurant, Moonstones, on their feedback card and brochure, which I believe offers more of a contemporary dining option. The dinner rates a good 3.5 stars, and bumping it up the dining experience to 4 stars because we had a wonderful server by the name of Holly. read more

I've only ever sat at the bar here but I anticipate being a strictly bar customer anyway. The drinks are pretty good as is the beer selection. Typical bar/pub fare I'd say....pretty decent portions too. The first time I went here I got the fish special and it was really good. Second time, I had a salad and another person got the chicken parm which was absolutely enormous. I wouldn't go here for a nice night out but it's definitely a decent drinks and a bite to eat at the bar kinda place. read more

The portions are fair, not enough to put you into a food coma usually, but enough to fill you up. Their beer selection is really good as well, which I wasn't expecting. Love it! Food is great, the bar is cozy and the staff friendly. There will NEVER be any problems here at the bar as the police station is right across the street and they often frequent the place after shift. A very nice mix of 20's, 30's, and 40's patrons. Great selection of beer and the food is top notch. A little pricey but worth it. They have a great bar area featuring one of my favorite beers, Kentucky Bourbon Ale. My girlfriend and I usually stop in on a weeknight and order a few apps and some tasty beers to wash them down. So far we've tried the Blackened Jumbo Shrimp and their Wild Mushroom flatbread. Sometimes we'll get the steak tips which are also very delicious. The bartender could use some personality but other than that this place rocks. read more

The service here is good. Very friendly staff, except for one woman. We came for brunch and I ended up being disappointed with what I ordered. I ordered the steak tips and eggs. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium, but after cutting into the meat, I found that it was barely cooked at all. The eggs were covered in cheese. So much so that I couldn't eat half of them because I felt like I was just biting into cheese. I definitely wouldn't recommend this dish. I was with a large party however, and I heard relatively good things about most of the food that was ordered. read more

This was one of my favorite restaurants. Great bar, atmosphere and excellent staff. The kitchen however, not so good. Bolognese was great but scallops were not fresh (sent back) any we even sent back desert; blond brownie was dry and tasteless. We may try again but there are much better restaurant choices out there. Booked a last minute reservation for 9 on Saturday evening. We were promptly greeted & escorted to our seats when we arrived. That's where the good stopped. The restaurant was not full. Not even close. The waitress came to the table and asked if we wanted water, but wouldn't take drink orders. Then we didn't see her- or the water for 5 minutes. When she returned, she took drink orders, but said she would be back to give us the specials. 10 minutes later 2 of the 3 ordered drinks arrived. She apologized that the bar was busy and ran off again. 10 minutes later the 3rd drink arrived and she took an appetizer order. Apps arrived, but the waitress didn't reappear until they were almost done. Then she read the specials- including an appetizer special that she hadn't told us about prior to ordering/eating the apps. We went around the table ordering.... first person ordered a steak, but the waitress was "so sorry the kitchen is out of mashed potatoes. Would you like fries with your steak?". Next person orders prime rib. "I'm so sorry, the kitchen is out of prime rib. Would you like a steak instead?" But then they ran out of Brussels sprouts. So, "would it be ok if you had a vegetable medley instead of Brussels sprouts?". Craziness! All orders in, we wait.... and wait. With barely a peep from our waitress except for her sporadic "im so sorry, it's just that the kitchen is slammed. Your food will be out in a minute" visits. The first 3 dishes arrived. 2 minutes later the next 3 dishes arrived. Then-- nothing. Again an apology for the delay. Well, first 6 dishes were getting cold so we started. 7 minutes passed and the last 3 dishes appeared. I suspect the waitress forgot to order them. Food in general, was just ok. Certainly not worth the prices. Dessert we ordered at the same time as some cappuccinos. But, they were out of creme brûlée. She didn't tell us this when handing our party of 9 the only 2 dessert menus that were left in the building. If you know something is not available, why not tell us ahead of time?? One disappointment after another. And no compensation from management for this. Bad customer service. read more

I returned again the other day and besides a great selection of beer, they have an amazing selection of cocktails. The buttered rum cocktail was the perfect way to warm myself up in the bitter cold weather. I treated myself to their scallops. They were perfectly cooked and tender.
