Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We ordered two burritos: one carne asada wet burrito and one chile verde burrito. The carne asada honestly looked more like ground beef and had a really unpleasant taste. The chile verde burrito was okay, but nothing special. What really shocked us was the price -- $45 for just TWO burritos! For that price, I definitely expected much better quality and flavor. On top of that, the gentleman who was attending us sat down right behind us while we were eating, which made the whole experience feel very uncomfortable and awkward, especially since we were literally the only customers there. We felt so uncomfortable that we ended up packing up all of our food and taking it home instead of finishing our meal there. Between the food, the high price, and the uncomfortable atmosphere, sadly we won't be coming back. read more

Cocina de Mexico is a small Mexican restaurant in bear city. They have a parking lot however it is very small. They have a couple booths to eat at inside but ordering is done at the counter. They have a wide variety of meat to choose from. Their tacos are a little pricey, however they are pretty big and they really give you a good amount of meat. Their nachos are amazing! There are a few Mexican restaurants in Big Bear however its the only one located in the East end area. It's also one of my favorite Mexican places here. The brightly yellow colored building is hard to miss from Big Bear Blvd. Once inside this hole in the wall vibe establishment serves up what may be the best Mexican food on the mountain. The owners and staff are always upbest and friendly. If you can get one the in house Chile relleno is by far the best I've had in a while. Either by itself or in a burrito it pairs nicely with a Coke in a glass bottle. Their home made salsa also has a good bite to it, comes in different flavors, and is free in the stand up refrigerator. Seriously they don't care how many you take and it lasts a while at home. Overall this place does not disappoint since the food is always good. While it may never win any beauty contests, it's location and consistency makes it the best restaurant on that side of town. read more

Absolutely delicious torta. Pillowy-soft bread, tons of well-seasoned chicken, great beans, and a ridiculously good combination of flavors. The salsa verde really took this over the top. Wow...super impressed by this place!! We wanted something quick and easy to go and close to where we were staying. The reviews were mixed but we decided to give it a try. I originally wanted the Albodingas soup but they were out. So had to pivot to a beef enchilada plate. And then we also wanted to get the Al Pastor tacos but that too was out. So ended up doing carnitas tacos. Well, our second choices were great!! We also got a chicken nachos. And man, the portions here are huge!!!!! I'd recommend sharing one plate!! There was only one woman making every order fresh and it was a pretty small place. No one else was there but us but it was pretty early. If you want cheap good authentic tacos how you like them this is where you go. The service is ok I think maybe it's a cultural difference but it won't stop me from coming back often. Have picked up food every 2 or 3 weeks. The asada burrito is a very generous and tasty portion. Also tried last week the taquitos (rolled and deep fried). The regular "street tacos" are also very filling, each order served on 2 tortillas. The adobada or Al pastor are good, but the carnitas are my favorite. Pros: Local business - family owned & run Super friendly Fresh ingredients Tastes good Good fair price point for portion sizes Beans are great Burritos are ENORMOUS and delicious Al Pastor was flavorful! My mom couldn't stop talking about how she loved the pieces of pineapple in the meat because it was so moist and tasty. Typically at taco trucks that serve al pastor you RARELY get pineapple with it, because they're stingy lol Salsas are fresh and BOMB. Green one was my favorite by far, but the red is a good option for those that enjoy roasted traditional Mexican salsa. Food was worth whatever I paid for it (can't remember but it was $55-$57 for 3 entrees, 2 fries, & 2 large cokes. We didn't regret a penny. We ate half for lunch and half for dinner. 2 Cons-ish: - NO LOCALS DISCOUNT Being part of the community that we share i would love to get some sort of stamp card or discount for my continued patronage. It's a nice touch and helps this little mountain town keep each other going. Lastly and likely my only food issue or complaint sort of is that Im guessing that the Asada isn't typically cooked or seasoned. Like it's not grilled steak as per usual. Im not sure if they're using a slow cooker or instant pot type deal but the asada that should be like picado or steak pieces is more like a stew meat in texture. Some bites of the meat tasted like corned beef which is an Irish dish and not exactly something you wanna taste in Mexican food. Luckily all of the other great flavors helped to mask those incidents lol don't get me wrong it's not totally gross and I'd definitely get a burrito again because their food DOES taste good. We must have caught them on a bad night because their food was bland, very disappointing. Staff was friendly but would not recommend them at all. Ugh, I was really disappointed in this place when I vacationed in big bear. I really trust yelp reviews on how awesome it would be and lugged my suv with snow chains on just to get it. The store front was small. Old but it's cool. I have bed to many hole in the wall places. The Mexican man was very nice and greeted quickly upon arrival. My husband and I took a look at the menu and we decided to get 5 carne Asada tacos. Large sides of rice and beans and side of guacamole. The man read our order to the lady at the register and she rang us up. I checked the food prior to leaving since I am always the paranoid they will forget something. I checked and noticed there wasn't any guacamole. My husband went back to the man to ask about the guacamole and he said oh I didn't charge you for that. Ok, is it like $0.50 I can pay cash. He said no $2. Ok I'll charge it. He said forget it, just pay me next time. He seemed kind of annoyed as we're we when we saw how small the container was and they charge $2 for it?! Must be because it's located in big bear. We got home. I ate the tacos. They were just OK. The rice was cooked ok the harder side and wasn't well seasoned. The beans were lardy which I normally don't mind but also not great tasting. The guacamole was small and full on onions. It completely overpowered the guacamole. This is TMI but my poop for the next two days smelled like onions and more onions. This meal costs $33. What a rip! I really would not ever come back to this place ever again. I absolutely love Mexican food so my first choice for food was to find a good Mexican spot. I was very disappointed. First they do not answer their phone . So I decided to walk to the restaurant . Customer service is huge to me , I was not greeted at all, they just looked at me and finished making their orders. So I had to speak to get acknowledged. Now the food.. sorry to say the worst meat I've ever had from a Mexican Restaurant. No flavor in the meat... Lengua , and the Carne Asada was fatty and not cooked throughout . My kids love Mexican food also , and are not picky eaters they didn't want to finish it. I can say the Menudo was ok. If they had better customer service I wouldn't be so harsh but , they need a over all improvement and I would hate for anyone to waste their money. read more

Wow what a hidden gem...I have been coming to Big Bear religiously for over 10 years and I have never seen this place. well what do know a little hand made sign placed by the street saying Tamales would lure me in. This is the real deal no frills Mexican food . great tacos (see photo) and huge burritos. your choice of fresh salsas and the have the real Mexican coke in bottles. tacos are only $1.75 and are packed with flavor and are very large. For you hardcores out there they have Lengua, tacos de pescado, adobada, tripa and buche. My buddy got the carne asada burrito and was pleased with it, he could barley finish it. My only regret is that I wish I would have know this place was here. I asked the owner and he said they have been there for 6 years.I will be visiting this place again all winter.. oh yeah its "CASH ONLY" so bring your lettuce read more
