    Fish Taco

Covina Del Mar San Diego, CA Food: Is there anything better than authentic Mexican food... when in the mood. We ordered Fish Tacos and Steak and Chicken Sopas. The fish taco had a great presentation and tasted great... grilled fish moist and flavorful along with the fresh Pico. The Sopas were delicious l enjoyed the chicken more than the steak nevertheless I would definitely order them again. Service: A bit of a language barrier nevertheless we work through it. Our waitress was so friendly and patient with us. Ambiance: Cantina vibe, clean and well organized.

El Rey tostada - notice it's not on a tostada nor were any tostadas provided with this plate.

Not a great experience for our first time. The place was not crowded, sat down right away. There was a party of about 10 people that were already there. Other than that, there was maybe 1 other table occupied with a couple people. Took a while to order and get our drinks. Took another while to order our food. Then we waited almost an hour for our food. 3 orders of El Rey Ceviches. That's all we ordered and that's how long it took. Food was good, which is why they are getting 3 stars. Won't be back. They're obviously overwhelmed with the smallest of crowds.

Traditional food and friendly service without fuss. Came on a week night and lots of available tables. The server is friendly and is multi-tasking so be patient. The music was super loud and she immediately turned it down when we asked. Chips and house salsa are solid! I got the camerones ala diabla - great kick, shrimp was cooked perfectly, and came with choice of tortilla. Also got taco/enchilada combo and surf and turf burrito. Both got high marks. This is a local place in a strip mall. Come for the food and friendly service without any frills.

    Molcajete del mar. Come hungry!

I have to give a 5 because this restaurant had the best PULPO preparation, a good 4 otherwise. The molcajete del mar is fantastic, opulent, well seasoned and nicely spicy. It is brought to you in a cauldron that seems to come from the inner depth of a volcano, literally, boiling hot and steaming. The pulpo tacos are amazing too... Everything else is good as well, but the pulpo, man :-) Place is clean, spacious, easy to park, rarely any wait.

Oh my goodness this place is a hidden treasure! The restaurant is clean and tons of choices for seating. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with green sauce! Outstanding, wonderfully seasoned and large portions. My hubs ordered the carnie asada burrito. He had a beer and I had a Pina colada. The service was friendly and fast. I'd go here again.

Perfect for a post beach meal. I tried the Del mar tostada, surf and turf burrito and the pescado (fish) taco. Accompanied all the good stuff with a glass bottled Coca-cola and modelo Michelada. The service was great. It has a very family friendly ambiance in this place. Lots of seating. The menu is pretty straight forward to what you would expect a maria is place to have. This won't be my last time here!

Friendly staff and clean atmosphere. Proportions were pretty good. Cops and salsa served while we waited. Loved their salsa

    Tostada de ceniza

A gem!! Stopped in for lunch during my work day, hoping to be able to sit and eat while getting some work done. It was spacious, with plenty of tables open when I arrived just before noon. The server was very sweet, and instantly recommended the tostada de ceniza, which had pieces of shrimp cooked in lemon juice and octopus. That's always a good sign when there's no hesitation with the rec! I asked her if it was enough for lunch, and she vigorously nodded yes. When it came out, I saw why! It was chock full of seafood, and I was especially impressed by the big, fresh-tasting pieces of octopus. Reminded me of my trip to Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe recently, and didn't even know how much I'd been craving mariscos!! Very affordable at $14.50 for the tostada, which I needed to use the chips from the free chips and salsa (pleasantly spicy)! I want to come back and try alllll the things :)

We were visiting the area and found this place on yelp. It was in a nice location and even though kinda small on the inside it sure made up for it in food and service. The waitress was very nice and we ordered a Margarita and Pena colada which was made very well. Our meal came out after and it was absolutely delicious. I definitely recommend this place for date night or even a nice family meal.

The kind of view where you catch yourself staring at the water like you're in a dramatic movie scene, contemplating life, love, and whether you should order another martini. But today the bar area and atmosphere captured our attention. The place is clean, elegant, and effortlessly classy. Not pretentious, just that perfect "I'm on the coast living my best life" energy. The atmosphere is warm, breezy, and polished enough that even the silverware feels like it pays rent. Service was excellent, the team took care of us like VIP guests at a private tasting. Attentive, friendly, and smooth. No chaos, no attitude, no disappearing acts. Just genuine hospitality that makes you think, "Yeah... this is why Oceanside stays winning." We only stopped in for drinks, but you know, that did not happen. Now let's talk about the fresh, amazing ceviche tostada, because this thing deserves its own paragraph, its own applause, and honestly maybe its own mural. The fish, "Wow"...packed with flavor, Fresh...fresh. The citrus? Bright enough to wake your soul. The seasoning? Balanced like it studied meditation. And the fresh avocado? Thick, creamy slices that sit on side like royalty. This tostada didn't come to play, it came to change your mood, your day, and possibly your future plans. Now my martini is talking...ha ha ha. It's the kind of dish that makes you consider ordering two more "just to confirm the flavor profile." "Bloody Mary Oyster Shots" These shots were dangerously delicious. Spicy, briny, bold, and smoother than a pickup line from someone who actually knows what they're doing. You take one and immediately think: "Yep... we're definitely doing another round." They were fresh, flavorful, and honestly? A little too good. The kind of shot that makes you question why you ever settled for regular Bloody Marys in your life. This was the main reason for stopping by, the "Amazing Dirty Filthy Martinis" Ah yes... the dirty filthy martinis, the ones you enjoyed at the bar while soaking in the ambience and plotting your next visit. Perfectly chilled. Perfectly briny. Perfectly filthy. Mmmmmm hmmmm, These martinis were so good they should come with a warning label. And the bartenders? On point. Skilled, fast, friendly, and clearly proud of their craft. You can tell they're the type who could make a martini blindfolded and still nail it. The ceviche tasted like Poseidon himself personally approved it. The oyster shots were so good they convinced me to order a few more rounds. So delicious! And those martinis? Filthy enough to make you blush, classy enough to make you behave. This place is clean, elegant, delicious, and run so well. Special thanks to the staff and management! "Enjoying life...One bite...one sip at a time, foodie & drinkie style!" Miguel C.

This place sells their "normal" lobster roll for $30 each. I know prices on everything have gone through the roof (thanks, Iran War) but that is a lot of money. I have no complaints whatsoever about the roll. For the "normal" roll (that's what they call it), there was plenty of lobster and it was great. The toasted buttered bread is especially delicious. But for the price....$30 is basically the cost of a meal at a sit-down restaurant. So you always have to balance quality, quantity, and price. Incidentally, on the menu, there is no reference to "Maine" versus "Connecticut" style rolls. (My understanding is that the lobster in a Maine roll is cold and is dressed with mayo while the Connecticut lobster is served warm and is more buttery.) The video screen above the counter to this place mentions you can order it either way. The menu should also say this but whatever, this is just an FYI. If you don't specify a style, you will get the more popular Maine roll. I saw a number of people getting lobster rolls so apparently others are willing to spring the big bucks for this dish. It is delicious but you decide if it is worth it for you.

When we arrived, there was no line which was pretty shocking because every other time I've been here there's always been quite a line. The girl who took our order was friendly and quick. We also had drinks, but they only had iced tea and lemonade, and sodas were all out. We were given a receipt with a number on it and we went to find seating. There are several big picnic tables, but they were all in the sun despite having umbrellas and the patio was full so we ended up having to eat inside, which was very hot. While we waited the line got pretty long. Our order didn't take too long and we brought it back to the table after getting condiments like ketchup for our fries, tartar sauce for the fish and plenty of napkins. The portions are huge and could definitely be split. Everything was too hot to eat (no complaints there) so we started with the slaw. I'm not a big slaw fan but it was good. I broke apart the fish so it would cool faster. The fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. The chowder was thick and tasty but mostly potatoes and very few clams. The shrimp were perfectly cooked inside the thick batter. The fish was well breaded and tasted good. I just wish it was a bit less greasy. This is definitely a divey spot but it's an Oceanside institution and hits the spot when I'm craving fish and chips.
