I travel very very frequently throughout the country. I always try to find local places to eat and have had some amazing BBQ and some that I would not feed a dog. I would say unequivocally this place is #1 of all the BbQ I've had in Ohio. The food was fantastic and the staff members were above reproach. They are extremely personable and truly appear to care if you enjoyed your experience. While at this place, it is clear the locals from all walks of life enjoy the food and atmosphere as I witnessed from families to local law enforcement eating here. We love bbq. We love it so much we have our own smoker and are super picky about our meat and sides. When we were in the area, my husband wanted to give it a shot. Upon walking in the place was bustling! I mentioned it was our first time, and the lady at the register (who I later came to find was an owner) was SO helpful in explaining the everyday menu & clothesline specials. She gave great recommendations when we were deciding between some items. We ended up both picking a 2 Meats platter. Mine had Pulled Pork and ribs. I chose coleslaw & cheesy potatoes for my sides. Hubs chose Brisket and pulled pork with cheesy grits and Mac and cheese. All the food was outstanding! Some bits of the pulled pork were a little dry, but with 6 or so tasty BBQ sauce choices you never noticed. Hubs loved the moist brisket & the ribs were fall off the bone great too. Side wise, my absolute favorite was the cheese grits! The Mac & cheese and cheesy potatoes were super yummy too! The coleslaw was fine, but paled in comparison to the other choices we had. It's a hometown, local, family business and I love that. The owners walked around chatting with customers and giving info about the business itself. This little place doesn't look like much when you drive past, but oh my, don't let that fool you. This is one of our favorite places to eat. In fact, both of my children requested to go here for their birthday dinners. Everything we've tried has been absolutely delicious. Our favorites are the brisket, the cheesy potatoes, and the amazing pulled pork nachos. I had been craving an Oktoberfest type meal so we headed to Cockeye for their clothesline specials. Heard this was an Amazing place to eat. Got to the cashier and told her it was our first time there. She welcomed us and explained how it works. Super nice lady. We then ordered and sat down. The wait wasn't horrible but the food when we did get it, the food was a very disappointing. On the very top (fish was ok), then brisket,layer of paper, then ribs. After having eaten @ Cockeye's many times, I had to go back and change a review I wrote for a different restaurant in Mahoning County where I'd called them the best BBQ in the area. That was well before I tried Cockeye's. COCKEYE BBQ is the best BBQ in the area. I've had most of the items on the menu and nothing has been less than fantastic. Be sure to check out their clothesline specials as well. You will not want to miss out on those...especially the deep fried cheese grits. We have been to Cockeye BBQ quite a few times but today was the worst we have ever gotten. The briskett was so fatty it was unedible. When we have had their briskett in the past, it has been great! Today it was all fat and no meat. I am still guessing as to why they would even serve a terrible product. For the price we paid for our meals, we were so disappointed. This is a bit of a drive from where we live but sooooo worth it. We first found this place during COVID and just did a return visit today. I could hate myself for taking so long to return. It was a joy to find the food even better than before- but maybe that was the influence of the very busy place filled with people having a good time. We had cheese curds, a Reuben, gumbo, and fried okra. All the dishes were delicious- perfection. The Reuben was tender with a nice slaw m, and sauce with a mild kick , on butter-grilled bread. The Gumbo was so good- the andouille was more flavorful, less fatty, than what we often find in Gumbo. Fried okra: delicious. Cheese curds were new to me and they were crispy on the outside and softly chewy inside, with a good sauce for dipping. My spouse stopped for ice cream before we headed home and says it is the best ice cream he's ever had. We got some ribs, brisket and smoked turkey for sandwiches the next day. So, so good. Service was great- everyone was working hard to keep up with the crowd they had. Run, don't walk, to Warren to see for yourself. This is an exceptional restaurant. read more

Cockeye BBQ offers decent food, although when I compare taste with price, I find that it's a little too costly. I moved here from Orlando, Fl., there we have a few barbecue establishments that serve great tasting food at reasonable prices. Most likely I won't make Cockeye BBQ my go to place for barbecue, for reasons that I mentioned above, besides I personally make a mean baby back rib plate with homemade potato salad, baked beans, and texas toast. read more

I feel like cockeyed is a hot or miss we have eaten here twice recently both pick up orders. The first time we got various meets (brisket, shrimp, pulled pork and chicken) we got okra, beans, and fries. We tried the blackberry bbq sauce, original, and strutter. I love the strutter sauce to dip my okra and hush puppies in. However, I went to the sweet baby rays for my bbq that was in my fridge. The meats were smoked so well and very tasty. The brisket was marbled perfectly and I've never had anything like that from a restaurant prior. The okra was perfect. The hush puppies a bit bond and dry. The meats were delicious but I found the chicken a bit dry. The second time we got the specials of the day: cold margarita shrimp tacos, a beef tongue sandwich, and a jalapeño cheese sausage bacon jam sandwich. I loved everything in theory but in execution there were some issues. The tortillas didn't not hold up and the slaw was too tart for the tacos. The beef tongue was amazing but too much other stuff was thrown in the sandwich that made it overwhelming in my opinion. Finally the bacon jam sausage sandwich was the stand out for me but man it packed some heat i wasn't totally expecting. I am thrilled because this is the only place I've found that carries cheerwine and in bottle form which makes me more than excited. What a great find along our travels through Ohio! Definitely worth taking a lil detour off the highway. The BBQ doesn't live up to the all hype sadly. I've heard great things about the food here and we decided to try it on a whim. We were greatly disappointed. Both my husband order the brisket, and such a absolute let down. there was no smoke ring on any of the pieces of brisket from his meal or mine which should have as it's the hallmark of great BBQ. It was also cold, chewy and tasteless. I also had the turkey, which was tough and had a bit of smoked flavor. My husband did love his hush puppies and the fried cheese grits were great. The Mac and cheese is dry and basic. I was not a fan of the sauces, most of them were very similar in taste. The bread that was given at the bottom was stale. The pickles were delicious. I will staff was very nice and friendly and it was fast getting our order. However try the ice cream place in the same parking lot, their ice cream is delicious. read more

Cockeye BBQ is reminiscent of a BBQ place in the south more of a store front versus a restaurant. I drove into town looking for the restaurant. If you blinked you will miss it. If it wasn't for the GPS telling me I have arrived it would be difficult to find. I walk in and was greeted by some very friendly people. The place is small for the volume of people that comes in and out. They could easily double the size and keep it packed. I noticed a lot of take out line was a long as the eat in line. You walk in and are greeted. You are handed a paper menu or stand at the counter and order from the board. They do not have waitress that come to your table to take orders again reminiscent of southern bbq places. I ordered the triple meat with turkey, brisket, and ribs. No big secret anyone who knows me knows that I hate thanksgiving style turkey. But I enjoy a good piece of smoke turkey. The turkey at Cockeye is to die for. It was very moist and a great smoke taste. The brisket is was also great. The ribs on the other hand I was not very impressed. Also, the selection of sauces were phenomenal you have everything from vinegar based to a blackberry that was awesome on the brisket. I must have built up a very strong tolerance for heat because I did not feel much heat from the hot. The taste was great and they know how to do hot correct. It has some heat but if very flavorful. I hate places who is hot sauce is nothing but heat and no flavor. For sides I ordered the cheesy potatoes and fried okra. The cheese potatoes where killer. I was also able to get a sample of the greens. The greens were well seasoned with bacon fat. Next time I would do the cheese potatoes and greens. So they do have the traditional bbq house desserts. They look awesome. But they have a creamery on site. I purchased four pints to take home. I purchased the double chocolate, vanilla bean, butter pecan, and peanut butter pie. When I got home I had the butter pecan and it was awesome. This is place is an hour and some change from my house. I would make the journey anytime I have a hankering for bbq. The combination of food and service makes the place five star. There is no way in heck, even the pickiest eater, you could not find something that you would enjoy. You definitely have to bring an appetite. You need to eat from appetizer to dessert and roll out the door in a food coma. read more

Since I love plants I love how there's one plant that is growing all over a pipe on the ceiling. They have a lot of cool beers and pop in a bottle to choose from. The deep fried grits is amazing !
