Believe it or not, I'm not a fan of boba. I prefer a boba drink without bobas. Having said that, my co-worker convinced me to get one. Let me explain: We were working outside our property and there was a long lag time as we were waiting for parts to arrive. Just across the street from us is this place. We all started to get thirsty and started having conversations about boba. I'm no expert on it, but one of our other co-workers is. In fact, she makes (or rather) cooks her own balls....or pearls, however you want to call them. My other co-worker mentions necklaces, and we told him to be careful....you're threading HR territory. She brushes it off and says she has a potty mouth anyways and proceeded to educate us on how the balls are prepared. She even shows us a YouTube video on the process and added that she makes them all the time. Based on this newfound knowledge, she convinced me (and others) to get one this time. So, we crossed Market St., went inside, checked the menu, ordered, waited and jaywalked back to our side of the street. I got the Pearl Milk Tea and thought the drink was OK. But I noticed the boba balls (or pearls) were inconsistent in texture as I sucked them up in that large straw, which should have a warning label for choking hazard. Some were chewy, some were Al dente and there were even large parts that were clumped together and not separated. (check the photos) The expert co-worker commented and said she can make it better. Yeah, I agree because subsequently after this incident, she proceeded to give us her own version of her boba balls...pearls. I'm still not a fan, but I know what proper boba pearl should be like. I stopped by CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice on Market Street near Embarcadero this past Saturday to try one of their drinks, and it turned out to be a great choice. I ordered the Chunky Mango milk tea and customized it with 30% sugar and 50% ice. The sweetness level was perfect. Sometimes boba drinks can be overly sugary, but this one had just the right balance--sweet, smooth, and refreshing without being overwhelming. The mango flavor tasted fresh and the drink was really enjoyable, especially on a nice day in the city. The staff was also very friendly. There were two workers behind the counter, and both were welcoming and helpful. They made the drink quickly and were very polite, so I left them a tip. When I first walked in, the place was pretty quiet and I was the only customer there. But after a few minutes of sitting down and sipping my drink while checking my phone, more people started coming in. From what I've seen passing by before, especially during the summer, the place can get pretty busy with students, families, and people stopping by for a quick drink. The ambiance is simple but relaxing. There are a few chairs and tables where you can sit down, chill for a bit, enjoy your drink, and then head back out into the city. It's a nice little stop if you need a break while walking around Market Street. They also have a lot of different drink options, so I'll definitely be coming back to try some other flavors. If you're around the Embarcadero or Market Street area and want a good milk tea or fruit drink, this is a solid spot. Two thumbs up from me. read more

There's still construction going on right now so this spot is a bit hidden. Hopefully once the construction is done, it'll be easier to access. Regardless, drinks are decently priced, so it's not too bad. You can get two drinks for the price of about one if you're looking for a deal. They so have 50% off on Wednesdays, so that's also another steal. There's some seating but not too much so it's more for smaller parties and/or to go only. They have cute photowall photo ops. Drinks are made to order with lots of topping choices and sugar percentage choice, which I always appreciate. Rating is based for price per drinks. Honestly I was so surprised to see a CoCo here on Market St. Downtown has been lagging behind in boba spots, and it was a pleasant surprise as my wife and I were biking through. Turns out location does matter, because we hopped off our bikes and turned a non-boba drink night into a boba drink night! With these large chain stores, going basic is always a safe bet. I ordered a Jasmine with 70% sugar it was just right and expected of any other Jasmine Milk Tea, with nothing out of this world worth mentioning. It gets the job done at a good price for the location. The boba pearls are pretty bouncy and chewy, and had a sweet taste to them on every sip. For the price and location, I can see myself coming here again and again. CoCo isn't a boba shop I would go out of my way to go, however it does hit and fix and sudden boba cravings (especially with the fast service and clean interior). I would love to try their fruit teas which I've heard some good reviews about. They also have occasional promotions that are all available in details at the order kiosk. read more

Going Downtown there are some options when it comes to Boba. On Market street there is CoCo( they do not serve hot coco) a boba spot which has many different fresh juices and teas. I got the Fresh Passionfruit Green Tea which was had no seeds but it also was not too sweet (by request). It had a good tasty passionfruit flavor. They do have different combinations like my favorite Passionfruit & Mango Slush ( didn't give me a brain freeze ). CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice in Downtown San Francisco has lots space for a Boba place. There are not too many boba options unless you take a MUNI ride a few blocks in some direction here. Coco's fills the void plenty, though. This spot has high ceilings and maybe half a dozen tables but plenty of standing space. Plenty of wall decor, and more spartan on the seating. The service can be slow if there's a large crowd, as this location has minimal staff. The drink selection is excellent, offering everything from fruity blends to classic teas. Coco's is the spot I recommend for friends who like cloud-tops and popping boba. Look for the discounted drinks on the monitors. read more

This review comprises two different visits. The first time, I got a chocolate milk tea large, 30% sugar no ice. It was rather underwhelming, it just tasted like a less sweet chocolate milk. On the other visit, I got a tropical special- passion fruit green tea. I had decided to buy it because I saw a sign outside advertising a discount. There was 35% offered for this drink. I had to scrutinize the sign more closely and overhear another customer talking to the cashier to learn that the 50% off advertised for 3 types of drinks on that banner was only offered for those ordering on the Fantuan app. I did find the passion fruit green tea to be pretty good, it was very fruity and there was plenty of boba. I would probably give it a 3.5 overall since I'd rate a 3 for the chocolate milk tea and a 4 for the passion fruit green tea (the promotional discount definitely made it feel more worth it for the latter drink). I will say that both times the staff were very quick to make the drink, though, and it was done within only 1-2 minutes. read more

Came around 8pm on a Friday night and there were only 2 other people inside. I ordered a passion fruit green tea with 75% sweetness and no toppings -- it's one of my go-to drinks anywhere. Overall the drink was pretty good, nothing surprising. It tasted exactly how you'd expect it to taste. Service was pretty fast since there was no one there. There's only 2 indoor tables that can sit about 2-3 people per table. It's a super small place. Plenty of parking in the parking lot. They have one bathroom too. Occasionally come here on weekdays, and it's usually empty. Although the parking lot is huge, the place itself is pretty small. Theres 2 tables on the inside. I got the Jasmine Milk Tea hot with pearls and the temperature was just right. The only thing was that the boba was not as chewy as I thought it would be and the drink left a weird taste in my mouth afterwards (like the feeling when you drink coffee and theres a lingering taste kinda thing). Other than that, the drink itself wasnt bad. I really liked their Passion fruit black tea as well, my friend got it was coconut jelly and it tasted really great! Coco is a consistent standard on the west coast including western Canada. It's better at other locations but it's alright here. Convenient location here, it's only a short trek from many corporate offices. Wasn't in dire need of caffeine so went with a taro option - the taro sago. There's a fair amount of seating with a few outlets but no wifi. Love the freshness of their Black Sugar milk tea & how their boba had a nice chewy texture. I was especially pleased with the Lemon Green Tea with freshly squeezed lemon juice extracted from a machine. The Lemon Green tea was very refreshing & I can only imagine how soothing it would be to order this on a hot summer day. I'm so glad I decided to increase the size to a large, so that I could savor it while taking BART home. I discovered CoCo through a Yelp Elite event at their Fisherman's Wharf location. However, their Market St location seems to have a different menu. It doesn't have the red bean drink I got there. I tried the medium sago taro milk tea and large chocolate pearl milk tea here but felt disappointed. The medium size seems like a small size. I don't recommend the chocolate milk tea, cause it tasted like chocolate milk. The boba also isn't soaked beforehand so it doesn't taste sweet but plain. read more

I came back here for the second tIme and still loved their boba milk tea. The milk tea was rich and flavorful and the boba was soft and chewy at the same time and was a perfect pairing with the drink. I also tried their Sago Taro Milk Tea this time around. It was pretty good. The flavor was definitely more on the mild side and I could use a bit more of that taro taste in my drink. The sago was pretty good too and went well with this drink. It reminded me of the Chinese dessert with taro sago in coconut milk. What I also liked was the shop itself, it was nice and clean and the restroom was spacious and warm, especially on winter nights like this. The tea is made quickly, and has a pleasant taste. The boba is good. The customer service lady is nice. I learned they have another shop near Fisherman's Wharf. Finally found a good boba spot near work! (which is also a dangerous thing...) Located on Market St, this place is super easy to spot. Inside is very spacious with lots of tables and areas for seating. I like their fruit drinks the most! I have tried their mango yakult, lemon yakult, and mango smoothie. The drinks are quite sweet so I like that you can adjust for the sweetness. I think my least favorite was their black tea latte. It just tasted like a plain milk tea, if not worst. I always see Coco stores when I visit Taiwan but this store is actually the first time I've ever tried it! This location is very small (with barely any seating inside) and the line can get super long because there's only one cashier. I had to wait over 30min for boba on a weekday afternoon. However, sometimes when it's too busy an employee will take your order in line and then write it on a piece of paper for you to hand to the cashier, this helps speed up the ordering process a little bit. I tried the black tea cloud (it has the cheese cream on top). The price of $4.25 is pretty steep for a regular boba so I was expecting something amazing. However, the milk tea was fairly average and the cheese on top is less dense/sweet than some other places. I usually like a bit of saltiness mixed into the cheese but I couldn't taste any salt at all. I did like that the milk tea itself was not overly sweet. I also tried the coveted brown sugar fresh milk tea. This is super delicious - you can't adjust the sweetness or ice levels because they're already adjusted to be less sweet and have less ice. For some reason I don't see too many boba shops sell brown sugar milk tea so I was really happy to drink something that reminded me of Taiwan. As for the boba, I thought they were pretty disappointing. I liked that they were sweet and weren't stuck together but they were super chewy. It was hard chewing them properly and I ended up swallowing a lot of them without mushing them up all the way. However, my ordered size large Red Bean Matcha Milk Tea came out as a regular size ($5.50 pricey and I included a tip!). The place was busy so I didn't want to make a fuss, but noticed people behind me looked as though they had the same cups size order issue. Anyway, passed by this place many more times during lunch hours and there's always a line, sometimes to the door. Even though work is nearby it's a major deterrence from going in. Weekdays late afternoons are better as either none or very short lines. I got a large Taro Milk Tea with red beans this time, and mentioned the cup size mistake from the previous visit. Only got a response that they must have made a mistake, nothing else (note not asking for a freebie, just relaying my experience). The drinks are good so go if you must and can handle the waits. For me, the inaccuracies and inability - or lack of authority - to acknowledge more than lip service are too many negatives. read more

This CoCo is A-Okay! Service is attentive and friendly, one walked around collecting the straw wrappers at each table. They also calmly and politely handled a slightly-crazy man who walked in straight to the front of the line and started yelling about Jesus. The interior (and exterior, to an extent) is very cute. The menu is very extensive and there's definitely something for everyone. My friend got the 3 guys with boba and I got the 2 ladies with boba. They were both creamy and milky. We came around 7pm on Friday night and there was almost no line. A line started to appear around 7:15, however. Will definitely be back due to the convenient location in the midst of the FiDi on Market. read more

I love the CoCo locations in the bay because they do justice to the sago, and this one doesn't disappoint! My go-to is the jasmine milk tea with sago (30% sweet) or passionfruit green tea with sago (0% sweet). Their drinks are on the sweeter side, and I feel like their fruit teas are sweet enough without the added sugar. The jasmine milk tea is super creamy/milky without a strong tea taste, which i actually really enjoy when I'm feeling a more milky drink. Taking off one star because I love the grapefruit drinks but you're forced to get the large (doesn't seem that much bigger than the medium tbh), making the drink pretty expensive, especially if you want to add toppings too. It was ok, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this boba chain. On a hot hot Monday afternoon, it was surprisingly crowded and hot. Only one guy at the register that's why! With so many people in the kitchen mixing and blending things, I would've thought the line out the door would've moved faster. Wrong. They've got to figure out their process better. If I see more than three people pouring drinks and mixing smoothies, then I'd expect the drinks to come flying out at superspeed. The poor cashier was probably getting heatstroke just keeping up with orders and credit cards! After a 15-minute wait, I ordered the Matcha Cloud. Another 10 minutes later I finally got it, and was already over it. The cloud part I could do without. The Matcha was delicious and not too sweet. Great job back there mixing and pouring guys. It was leading out the door when I made my first visit. Since it is a new store, I always go for the orthodox: black milk tea with boba, so I can compare with what I know. The order took some time, but I feel it's due to the store being new, so I won't count it on this review. I also requested no change in the ice quantity and the sweetness. The cup is slender but tall, and there was nice amount of boba pearls at the bottom of the cup. The pearls were chewy and had a good consistency. They weren't stuck together into a glob, and they fit through the straw without any issues. The tea is very good too; a right balance of tea and milk. I was very pleased with the sweetness percentage because it was just right. I would like to visit again to try the other flavors. read more

i still remember when i tried coco for the first time back in 2012 inside the bottom of taipei 101...this was the first time i had true authentic milk tea and it floored me lol. since then, i've been to the coco in new york, los angeles, tokyo, and now SF!! so happy they finally opened up several locations in the SF area--truly brings me back to 2012. i usually get the black milk tea with boba. it's your pretty typical authentic black milk tea--good balance of strong tea flavor and creaminess. i feel like the black milk tea at coco tastes a bit unique (in a good way) so it's always a treat to have it. prices are reasonable for bay area boba and whenever i come i usually upgrade to a large because why not? i also usually get less ice and 30% sweetness since it is more than enough sweet for me. i feel like anything above 50% may be really sweet. will definitely come back whenever i am in the financial district! read more

I ordered the MILK TEA WITH PUDDING, a classic I usually get in SoCal! - the milk tea is very tea based, so even with 100% regular sugar, it's not overly sweet. I feel like I can really taste the black tea flavor - (the boba quality is really nice and chewy here but i feel like the addition of it makes the drink too sweet which is why I didn't add it to my drink ) - the PUDDING has a great soft, chewy texture and I feel like it compliments the drink super well. My favorite of the moment, Sago Taro Milk Tea with add in boba, something amazing! Zero ice and 30% sugar adds a subtle sweetness to the taro milk. No powdery taste, just a beautiful silky creaminess of taro milk that coats the mouth. The sago pearls are a complimentary addition to something already so delicious on its own, elevating the explosion of flavor on my taste buds. I could honestly have done without the boba, but the chewiness of the pearls adds an additional layer of flavor and texture to an already delicious pleasure. Would I recommend? Most definitely!
