Recently had a lychee tie guan yin oolong tea (no boba) and loved the quality of the tea. My college bestie had the tea delivered to our hotel so I can't speak to ordering or customer service in store. Despite the plethora of boba places in the Bay Area, Boba Guys is still a standout.
I wanted to like this place so bad. Unfortunately I don't get the hype. Their boba is good, but I feel like the drinks are just alright. Very busy line, but the service here is quick. We ordered: Taro Milk Tea & Strawberry Jasmine - Tasted very grainy and diluted. I could hardly taste either the taro and strawberry within the drinks. Thai Tea - Tasted better than the other drinks. No complaints about sweetness or anything. Would be willing to come back and try something else. Maybe I just got a bad batch.
Boba Guys is the best boba spot in SF hands down! If you don't know what to get here, get the strawberry matcha latte with boba. This is the drink they're known for and they nail it each and every time! If there's a line here, just wait in line. It's worth it!
Their strawberry matcha with honey boba (sub oat milk) is always delicious, and this location is no exception! Perfect sweet treat and one of my favorite boba drinks in the bay!
Boba Guys has always been a prominent boba spot for several years now and I am glad that the quality and taste is still there. I've only always ordered their Classic drinks like the Jasmine Green, Classic or Rose Black and never really strayed to other flavors. This is because those drinks are already quite satisfying. 50% sugar is the perfect sweetness level; can even go lower for people who aren't really into sweet drinks. The place is takeout only. Service was fast - our drinks were quickly made.
Very disturbing experience at Boba Guys. I ordered a caramel latte, and after finishing the drink, I found multiple pieces of plastic at the bottom of the cup. This is a serious food safety issue and completely unacceptable. I took a photo as evidence. Quality control clearly failed, and this makes me question their sanitation and preparation standards. I hope management addresses this immediately so it doesn't happen to anyone else.
I stopped by here as it was in the area and I needed a cool drink. It wasn't busy when I went and was able to put my order in immediately. I didn't want anymore caffeine so I ordered the berry hibiscus with chia seeds. The drink was good and refreshing.
Quality of the drinks here remains good, including the specials (although the mango sticky rice drink I had wasn't particularly memorable), the touch screen ordering works well, service is quick, and the location, so close to Union Square, is very convenient. However the location is also sort of the worst part, they're very close to the tunnel (south of the entrance), and the space inside is not large. The overall vibe is welcoming but a touch shadowed, enough that my friends almost wanted to go to a competitor instead based on location alone...
We recently got Boba Guys boba catering for work and I was able to try the classic milk tea (in a smaller size). Loved hot cute the little cup was and the milk tea was light with a nice tea flavor. Not too sweet which is great! I do prefer stronger, more roasty milk teas but Boba Guys is solid and also a good choice.
This location is super tiny and the self-ordering system does not work well. I placed my order AND PAID but apparently it did not show up in the system/queue when the order checked. I showed them the transaction from my credit card app, but she said the self-ordering kiosk has had issues... so I ordered and paid again... I was walking a lot in china town and wanted a fresh drink, so instead of the matcha or boba drinks, I chose LYCHEE OOLONG fruit fresca this time around and I was happy with the choice! The drink was lychee forward combined with vanilla notes from Tie Guan Yin from Tea People (Boba Guys uses tea from Tea People). They used lychee and blended them it seems as you can chew on the pieces of lychee in the drink which was tasty and refreshing. Highly recommend trying the Lychee Oolong fruit fresca, BUT it was toooooo sweet at 100%. I would recommend less sweet unless you are looking for a sugar rush haha.
Love this hole in the wall location right off of union square! boba guys is known for their famous strawberry matcha lattes, usually very pretty looking too! My usual go to is a Korean banana milk with almond milk so it's sweet, but I wanted to try something new! Since it's a smaller location there is only one server working, there isn't ever a rush so your drink will be made quick! I tried one of their seasonal hits; the matcha caramel latte. It's pretty good but I definitely recommend less sweetness as the caramel over powers the matcha! Also if you want the degrees of separation aesthetic for your social media pics when you get the drinks, tell them not to mix the drink!

There are SO many boba places to choose from but this place hit the spot. The store is pretty small...just enough to fit the ordering counter and a few people but service is super quick so I can't imagine the line gets too long (there is also an order online option). Union Square is across the street too so you can find a spot there to sit there and enjoy your boba if you want since there aren't any tables inside. There is an in-person counter and a tablet to order from. I tried the horchata boba which was perfectly sweet, refreshing, and filling.

After a long day of shopping and walking around to enjoy the beautiful views of San Francisco, we were so happy to find Boba Guys for a quick and refreshing stop. Even though the shop is on the smaller side, it's clean, well kept, and the service was very quick and efficient. It was exactly what we needed after being out all day. The drinks were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. The lychee oolong tea was incredibly fresh and perfectly balanced , not too sweet, just the way I like it. The ube milk tea was rich, creamy, and so flavorful. We also tried the fruit tea, which was very refreshing and tasty. Everything tasted high quality, and you can tell they really care about their drinks. Overall, this was a great boba stop in San Francisco, and we will definitely come back next time we're in the area. Highly recommend! read more
This Boba Guys location is a hidden gem. It's truly tucked away, right under the overpass. It's tiny (pick-up only), but seems to get good foot traffic as it's near a bus stop and next to a boutique hotel. The staff here are always friendly and the drinks are top-notch. My favorite is the Hojicha Black Sugar Latte. They add kuromitsu syrup unlike any other boba shop where I've ordered a hojicha latte. It makes a world of difference -- so good! read more

We recently got Boba Guys boba catering for work and I was able to try the classic milk tea (in a smaller size). Loved hot cute the little cup was and the milk tea was light with a nice tea flavor. I am at a loss of words... I've never had BAD Boba Guys before! I was in the area and saw that there was a Boba Guys here and what a mistake!! The boba was trash. It was almost inedible. I wanted to try something new so I got the Ube Latte. It was my first time trying the drink so I am not quite sure how it's supposed to taste like but the boba itself already ruined the drink for me. It tasted like old boba that's been sitting out for a while. My sister got my favorite drink (Strawberry Matcha Latte) and it was super watered down.... It tasted nothing like the drink at all! We threw away our drinks after two sips. read more
Decided to try boba guys again after a long time, and unfortunately their normal flavored black tea milk tea was not great, but their banana milk tea always hits and I would definitely recommend getting their specialty flavored bubble tea over the standard black tea milk tea or jasmine milk tea. read more

This boba guys has changed quite dramatically. The last time I had the boba here before Covid-19, and they held their advertisement on point, where "they take boba and tea into next level", as said on the cup. But today I went to get a jasmine milk tea with boba, and I was surprised disappointed with the boba, becuase boba guys are know for their boba. The boba I had was rock hard and definitely old boba from the night before. Before COVID boba guys's boba are super soft and chewy with hit of honey flavor. And today's my order of the boba was not what I expected at all. The store has changed as well, there's no one in the front to greet customers and I waited for a bit to have a person come out. I hope they hired employees who care about the company purpose, and don't make mistakes like serving an old boba. read more
Could've been better for sure! As a Canadian, all I hear about are the cool place we don't have in Canada. Boba Guys was definitely one of the crazes when it first came out and so when I was in town I decided it was a must try pit stop I had to make. This location was near China Town and located right beside this bridge/ passageway that was very long to walk (and dark!). Getting into the store, you have to order through their kiosk. They are cashless so you had to pay through a credit card. I opted for the matcha strawberry with boba, since it's what I've been wanting to try for years now. Boy oh boy was it a huge disappointment. When I received my drink, I immediately noticed that my drink had very little strawberry on the bottle, not like the photos i've seen before at all! (Refer to my photo for reference). When drinking it, all it tasted like was milk. No matcha taste, no strawberry taste, straight milk. Tapioca was okay with it's texture and chew as well. I've definitely had better. Overall, this was a huge let down. It was quite expensive for a drink, lacked flavour and not what I was expecting at all. Can probably skip this drink for my next visit, but still glad I got this checked off my list. read more
I'm sure you've heard of Boba Guys, so I doubt there's anything I can add that you haven't heard. For me it's a solid go-to spot if I'm feeling like having bubble tea and happen to be nearby. The quality is good: real tea, soft/chewy boba, a variety of toppings and Straus milk. My Pandan Caramel Matcha Latte was delicious, though probably still a notch sweeter than I'd like. (One downside is you can't choose a sweetness level.) I do love that they offer seasonal specials. Eyeing the Hojicha Banana Milk one to try next time! read more
Boba Guys is always a must when I'm in San Francisco! I always order the Strawberry Green Tea Fresca, since I'm a fruit tea type of gal. I thought it was very good! I love the fruit teas that aren't too strong on the tea taste, and there was ample strawberry taste, so the perfect combination for me. If you're not a milk tea type of person, I would definitely recommend their Frescas. Their service is always very fast as well! read more

Very small space, I was surprised to see that they removed their counter area alongside the wall for customers, so no dine in. Definitely just a grab and go spot. Excellent and friendly customer service from the young Asian gal working behind the counter. She deserves a raise imo. Drinks perfectly made to order, but boba balls were kinda tough. Try coming earlier in the day for fresher boba. Highly recommend. Also watch out for sketchy characters in the area, I got accosted by one while waiting for my drink outside. read more

came across this place. the location is small. you order on a kiosk. i chose the Yuzu Pina Matcholada and it was horrible. But I can tell if I tried one of my normal drinks Id actually like it. The customer service was great. I would come back to try more. read more

Super small joint where you order on a kiosk. Drinks took about ten minutes to come out. Black Sesame Latte: 2.5/5 Wasn't too sweet but the sesame flavor tasted almost artificial? Boba was fine, overall decent creamy drink. Lychee Oolong: 3/5 I like the chunks of lychee inside. Tea had a sweetness. Also fine, more refreshing drink. read more

I always make it a point to at least hit up Boba Guys at least once every time I travel to SF. I decided to try the Ube Latte with chia seeds this time around. I was a tad bit disappointed with the drink given my very high expectations based on my prior visits. The drink tasted a bit watered down and I didn't feel the Ube purée that they added was enough to actually taste the ube. I came on an early Friday afternoon and there was no wait. The shop is a small space with no indoor seating and located right outside of Union square right before a tunnel entrance. read more
I haven't been to this location in over a year but was happy to be back. Prior to covid, the lines would be out the door at any time of day, but we were able to walk right in. I tried the pandan caramel matcha latte (strong matcha, loved the caramel) and the banana milk which was delicious. I also picked up a cookie and pandan caramel popcorn and both were okay. I wish they had a Boba guys local to me so I could try all their specials. read more

So happy that they're not only in the Bay Area now!!! I used and still go exclusively to this place on my Bay Area trips and i'm glad they partnered with Local Kitchens to take their drinks further inland. Food; 5/3 Stars, nothing had ever come close to flavor and quality that this brand brings to my palette. All my out of state friends still tell me their thoughts of boba and that I ruined their experiences with brands that are not Boba Guys. Service; .5/1 Stars, Service could always be better, I always found that when ordering at this and any other Boba Guys locations you are just an order number. It's always busy so we can excuse that. Ambiance; 1/1 Stars This and every Boba Guys location does what they can and make their ambiance's close to each other and for that I'm thankful. I've been hearing about this place for ~10 years now and was finally able to try it out. The quality was disappointing. The drink was very diluted with water and tasted bland / watery. Top 2 worst boba drinks I've had. The boba ball was nice and soft, unfortunately, it was like drinking good boba balls in a cup of water. read more
I would have given 5 stars because the drink tasted awesome. It took the person two drinks to make my order and both were wrong. She gave us the wrong drink for free. We ordered lychee oolong tea with no boba. She gave us one oolong tea and one lychee oolong tea with boba. The upside was that the lychee oolong tea was great and the service was fast. read more

As an avid fan of banana milk , I knew I had to try the Boba version of Korean Banana milk. After trying it three times across 3 different locations, I am happy to report it is now my favorite thing on the menu! The drink is made with a homemade banana jam combined with oat milk, which makes the drink both dairy and caffeine free. The drink has a very strong sweet banana flavor which I appreciated. I also tried the Strawberry Matcha Latte (their signature drink!) and the Rose Black Tea (not pictured), both of which were very good as well! Their American-made boba is both soft and chewy, just the perfect boba texture. Now I'm just waiting for them to open a location in Texas... read more
I'm not a big Boba person, but my family loves it, so I often get Boba for them. The only time I treat myself to Boba is when I head to Boba Guys because of the authentic taste of their matcha and strawberry. The boba balls are soft and chewy. Their drinks don't taste overly sugary or artificial like those from other Boba places. It's a real treat every time, and it's the perfect way to treat myself while treating my family. My son doesn't typically enjoy snickerdoodle cookies but Boba Guys' ube snickerdoodle cookies are absolutely amazing! A tiny shop with a kiosk located in downtown San Francisco. read more

When is the least busy time to visit during the day?
First thing when they open is the best time, in my experience at various locations. If you want actual boba (tapioca pearls) in your drink, you'll need to wait until an hour after opening because they make them fresh every day.
