Went there today and the service was horrible. When we walked in we didn't even get a hello, we were greeted with no smile and they said the wait would be 30 minutes because they had no seating. Even though there was a table with at least 20 chairs reserved for a party that sat empty well over 50 minutes after we were finally seated. The servers had no personality whatsoever. Never smiled. I'm unfamiliar with some of the dishes and I asked one question and for the rudest tone like it was an inconvenience that I even asked a question. I paid and left a generous tip, even though it wasn't deserved, I said thank you twice and the server just walked away. No thank you back, no "have a good day", no smile, nothing. Never going back. We got to-go yellow curries and chow mien. Absolutely delicious. The best food in Merced so far. Best curry I've had in a while. It was ready on-time, in 20 minutes, and was labeled which was a huge help since we had gotten two curries, one with tofu one with chicken. The gal at the front desk was paying bills when we arrived she seemed frazzled by the interruption of having to seat us. The table was clean but the condiment jars were dirty so it was not a great start. Once seated we waited another 7 minutes for drinks. The pigs in a blanket are delicious I know them as goonhumpa from another restaurant. We ordered chicken larb but would have rather had it with no tripe as it overpowers the entire flavor of the meat. Bbq beef was exactly what I expected the menu says it comes with a side of white rice and cucumber salad. There was no cucumber salad it was a house salad. When I asked about it the waitress just said it was different now which would have been nice to know when I ordered the meal. Menu should be updated. Very good to Excellent is how our group rated CC! Its slightly different from the other Thai places in a really good way. The location is tucked away on Buena Vista and Hwy 59 but we'll worth seeking it out. The Pineapple fried rice, Spring rolls and Pad khee Mao were devoured instantly everything else was great too. Love this place. We recently moved to merced and haven't had luck with the local Asian restaurants but this place is a gem! It says Thai...but it's more like a fusion restaurant. Items I've tried and order of taste: Orange Chicken: B- Great flavor but the breading is different, not bad just different then what I'm used to but still good. Chicken Chow mein: B Tastes close to Vietnamese chow mein and if it was made with the thin yellow noodles it'd be better but again good flavor. Chicken Yellow Curry:B+ very good, but too spicy for me to eat without a heart burn pill. Spring Rolls: A- Great, but make sure to ask for the peanut sauce. Yellow noodle/combo Pho: Almost perfect but needs to be a bit hotter (temp wise). Chicken Pad Se Ew: A++ perfect I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Best Thai place in Merced. I always have to get their Tom Kha because they just do it THAT good. From experience, Ka Ree yellow curry, Panang curry, Pad Woon Sen and Pad Khee Mao (drunken noodle) are all excellent dishes. Great spot for a sit-down meal in Merced! Came here for lunch and wasn't disappointed. They're located kind of at the back side of a partially empty commercial/industrial-y plaza, so I was a little skeptical going in and finding the spot, but everything was great! Lots of parking, good Covid protocol, and there are seats in covered areas out in the parking lot if you want to dine outdoors. The decor inside and the music they have playing on their Bluetooth speaker is a little eclectic, but interior is spacious, booths are comfortable, and servers are incredibly friendly and attentive. +Beef Larb ($11.95) - 2.5/5, wouldn't order again. Personally, I prefer more mince and much less tripe (or none at all), and I wasn't aware that theirs was so tripe-heavy. Additionally, the tripe wasn't chopped finely enough, so we ended up with some chunks a couple inches large that had absorbed all the flavor in the dish. Bit of hot sauce saved the dish, but not my favorite. +Chicken Satay ($8.95) - 4.5/5, seasoned very well and chicken was tender and super hot off the grill. I do personally prefer chunks of dark meat for my skewers, while theirs was flat skewered white meat, but the chicken was delicious nonetheless, and great with the peanut sauce and little salad that came with it. The peanut butter is reminiscent of peanut butter I water down with boiling water to dip apple slices, but hey, it works! +Chicken Curry Fried Rice ($11.95) - 5/5, some of the best fried rice I've ever had. The spices are delicious, and everything was stir-fried to perfection! Would come back to this place for this rice alone. SO good. Overall: 4/5 atmosphere, 5/5 for service, 4.5/5 for food. Super disappointed and probably won't go back. It's really sad that when dining in I get more rice, a bigger salad and 2 pork chops. I ordered for pick up today for dinner and I barely got a half cup of rice with a over cooked egg. A 3 oz ramekin of cucumbers, no lettuce at all for the so called "side salad" and 1 pork chop for the same price i would've paid for dine in. Overall the food was good. I ordered the beef and meatball pho. The broth was yummy. Not enough noddles. I was excited for the pork belly which I also got and it was ok. Wouldn't really order it again. I also saw a picture of the hot wings and thought wow those look yummy and spicy. They're not spicy at all. The sauce is more of a sweet chili sauce which was yummy but I prefer it more spicy. I don't like that they don't have a kids size pho or even a small. They only have one size. The service was good. I would leave zero stars if I could. The few times I've actually managed to eat here when they're open, the food is good. But that's just it. Coming here is a crap shoot: the last half dozen times we've come during advertised business hours, the place is "not open yet" or the wait time is inexplicably, absurdly long. "Inexplicable" because there was no line or the restaurant wasn't even full. One time, they even offered to let us wait an hour for a takeout order ... We went elsewhere. I visited this location after seeing it on Instagram and all I gotta say is... one and done... There's one thing that is making your food look great in photo, but the real test is making it taste as good as it looks. I went ahead and order the Korean BBQ ribs from there. KBBQ ribs 1/10 The presentation was great when served but when it came to actually eating it it was a nightmare. The meat spent more time in my mouth trying to be broken down then actually digesting. I legit had to spit the food in a napkin because the meat was go chewy. When it came to the seasoning all I can say is I legit believe the cook grilled the short ribs but did not marinate them. I had to use the Sriracha sauce and soy sauce to add some kind of flavor. The rice was okay.. nothing spectacular, but then again, what can you expect from rice. The little side salad included had a peanut sauce that quite frankly was unnecessary and did not add any good flavoring to it at all. The only reason I give it a 1 is solely due to presentation and nothing else. Location : 8/10 The location was very quiet. I don't mind a quiet location but quite frankly no music playing at all made the place awkward. The servers: 10/10 Great customer service, very attentive. Overall, all I can say is I'm sorry Coconut Cafe but either you hire a new cook or else don't expect your business to succeed serving food as I experience. I order myself a Pad Thai and Papaya Salad to dine in, which both turns out delicious. I order a Korean BBQ short ribs to go since I plan to pack it for work. The moment I took it to work and finish heating it up, I realize the meat has red sections. I took a bite and they were sour, not the usual taste. Wow wow wow, I'm super impressed with the food! Service was spectacular, super fast. The restaurant had a welcoming feeling. I had the tea and it was amazing. I was super impressed with the egg rolls, we ordered some spring rolls but I didn't get a taste of those. The chow mein chicken was amazing, my kids gobbled it up. The pad Thai we took about half of it home as they serve big portions and wow.... Even cold it tasted amazing. THE FOOD HERE IS LIKE NO OTHER. I got the Korean bbq. The meat was really satisfying and there was a lot of meat for an unusually low price. The sauce was nice and sweet and had a little kick like sweet and spicy. The cucumber salad is refreshing and sweet. The meat was also really tender and fatty. I also got a milk tea drink that was super cool. It had a coconut flavor and tasted really authentic. The service and ambiance are both really nice as the employees are kinda and the restaurant is spacious. Overall definitely recommend to others and would go again. read more

When we arrived we thought the restaurant was closed because the blinds were all drawn and it was dark inside with a handwritten sign on the door that when read up close says "closed 3-4 daily". We ordered the green Curry #43 and a Thai style papaya salad. The food was delicious especially the curry however the place is not as clean as it used to be and they really should open the blinds. They had a lot of items stored in plain sight and so it gave a cluttered appearance. The service was ok as they did mess up our order and were a little slow but the food made up for it. Off tops this place is a gem! I was in the mood for some pho and my friend Kwane had recommended we go and try this place out. Coconut cafe is the real deal! Don't let the name fool you. They serve authentic Thai food with Lao influence. And its extremely flavorful Coconut Cafe did not have indoor seating due to COVID, so me and my friend Kwane sat outside. Our servers name was Dillon. He was an outstanding server, strongly appreciate his hospitality. He was very informational on the menu and just a super cool dude with nice dialogue. I only wanted pho that day and trying something new is always fun for me so I bravely ordered the Duck Pho. My friend ordered the combination. I took pictures of the plate if your interested in the visuals. I can't speak to much about my friend and how he felt about his food but it was obvious he loved it. He even said, "he just couldn't stop eating." I assume it was because his combination pho was that good lol. Now this was my first time having duck. It was dank. Dillon the server assured me it was farm raised. So the farm raised duck was surprisingly fatty but the dark duck meat itself is tender. I do recommend people to try it, I know I will try it again. With pho, Coconut cafe does give people the option to have either rice noodles or egg noodles. My duck pho had egg noodles which was also new for me. Overall I have no complaints, this place is freaking awesome. I'm already plotting and scheming on how to make make a return so I can try more of there cuisine. Great tasting food. We went for Mother's Day and the wait wasn't as bad as we thought. They sat us within minutes and advised that the food would be about an hour wait which we understood and accepted but the food came out way quicker than an hour. Customer service was kind as well. read more
