    Idly (1) Vadai (2) Combo
    Sriharsha A.

Stopped by for a quick bite for breakfast and got the Idli 2 Vada combo with sambar, coconut chutney, and tomato chutney. The idli was one of the best I've had at an Indian restaurant! Sambar and coconut chutney were also amazing, but the tomato chutney was too sweet. They were super generous with the portions for chutneys and sambar. I also tried the vegan masala chai, it had good flavor but was pricey for the portion. Service was quick and staff were really friendly. It's takeout only. Parking is easy. Definitely plan to come back and try more of the menu.

I was craving for some traditional authentic filter coffee and after a quick Yelp search, I found this place. Surprisingly it was open at 8am! I got a medium filter coffee, a vada and benne masala dosa. I just couldn't wait to dig in. The person at the counter was very kind. The seating here was limited but they did have good indoor and outdoor seating. The coffee came out pretty quickly! It tasted just like the traditional Indian filter coffee - absolutely delicious! The dosa and vada came out pretty quickly too. The dosa was dripping with ghee - just the way I like it. It came with tomato and coconut chutney. There was authentic sambar too. Everything tasted delicious! My cravings were satisfied! If you are looking for authentic South Indian food , look no further!

Take out only! I suggest ordering pickup because it takes a while for the food to come out. Especially since there is no seating area inside. Vegan chai is made with oat milk

Mini Idly - Dipped (14 pcs) Dosa Uttapam

Idly Express is a solid stop when you want quick South Indian food that actually tastes good. If you love dosa and onion uttapam, you'll be happy here. I came on a Sunday brunch run and the dosa + onion uttapam combo was exactly what I needed. Food: really tasty and consistent. Drinks: rose milk and coffee are my favorites. Service/Parking: staff is helpful and parking is easy. Big downside: the location basically doesn't have seating. There are a few tables outside but it's not comfortable, and during peak times you'll likely end up eating in your car or taking it to go. One more thing: it looks like they might be connected to Mylapore since the containers and branding seem the same. If seating matters to you, I'd just go to Mylapore. If you're okay with takeout, Idly Express is great.

Tomato chutney - with carrots and made in coconut oil
    Me Iz S.

This location of Idly express is more of a takeout than a sit down, hence the ambience is very functional!! Nothing too much to talk about ...there are a couple of tables outside, no seating inside! The service appears to be fast. There is an electronic stand - to place your order and check out. There is a cashier - where you pay, and then there is a booth (more like a pick up table), the host signals that your order is ready for pick up! I have only eaten here once - last week I picked up a takeout. I ordered the Tathe Idly. You get two big idlis in a box. The order has small inner containers of sambar, a podi with oil, tomato chutney and coconut chutney. I requested them to skip the coconut chutney due to food, allergies (coconut is a no-no for me!!) They gave me four teeny/small containers of tomato chutney! This is where my experienced went South rapidly!! I don't think the tomato chutney is made of only tomato; when you keep it in the fridge and take it out, it solidifies and there is some sticky-creamy texture and it feels a bit chewy. I'm not sure what the other ingredient in the tomato is, I have to get to the bottom of it. This triggered immediate wheezing and a weird distaste for me!!! Stay tuned cause I'm going to call them and fill this space with ingredients within the tomato chutney. If you were to order food and eat, please - please - please be sure to ask about every ingredient, especially if you have asthma coupled with wheezing and a sensitive system! Follow up: I just got off the phone. The young lady who answered was very polite and checked with the chef about the ingredients!! Bang on, I was correct : the reason it's solid solidifies and the chutney looks creamy is because they use coconut oil !! Top that they add carrot in it! Be very mindful if you're eating that chutney!

Mini tiffin ( vip + rava kesari)
    Sho R.

I got an Uber delivery of Mini tiffin ( vip + rava kesari). They had a lot of delicious items like dosa and poori. But only idly was available through Uber. Food was ready quickly. Medhu vada was crispy and flavorful. Sambar, coconut chutney and tomato chutney all came in good quantity. Pongal was good. Kesari had a lot of ghee.

A picture from october last year- Thatte idlis.
    Harmanjeet K.

I'm a fan of their thatte idlis, but my recent DoorDash order was disappointing. The extra coconut chutney I ordered was missing, and they also never packed two tomato chutneys with two different orders of thatte idlis. I've noticed they've reduced the combo by one thatte idli and lowered the price on their website, but DoorDash still charges more ($7.95 vs $9.54). I understand restaurants pay a fee to DoorDash, but customers shouldn't bear the cost. On the bright side, their coconut chutney is delicious, and their sambhar is exceptional - soothing, homely, and perfectly spiced with added bottle gourd. I hope they address the inconsistencies and pricing issues. I look forward to dining in the restaurant and tasting their other offerings.

    Mini Podi Idly

Comfort soul food! When you're overwhelmed with endless Indian options, this place offers clean, guilt-free, and wallet-friendly meals without compromising on quality or quantity. The $5 specials are incredible--Adai Avial, Kanjivaram Idlis, and Poori Masal are our top picks. The attention to detail in a $5 meal is impressive, like the butter and jaggery on the side for Adai. Their batters are unmatched in town, especially the sponginess of the idlis. Opportunities: * Tiffin: The regular tomato chutney is just okay but could be better (though the one served with Kanjivaram Idlis is amazing). * Hot Lunch: Their poriyals, like vazhakkai and potato, are consistently undercooked, and the taste could use some improvement.

No lines and no crowds on a rainy day morning with plenty of available parking spots in the huge lot. Nothing attractive on the outside in this old popular plaza. The place turned out great with the old fashioned retro red color style interior and the experience was wonderful. Good vibes and positive feelings when walking into it. My lady server provided excellent service and the Hispanic male worker was quick and efficient. Place is clean and menu had good variety of selections. Breakfast is served all day while lunch items start at 11am. My breakfast was very fulfilling and total was $25.30 with everything included. I paid in cash and tipped them $5. Loved my sweet lady server. There was another older woman at the cash register. She's a local as well. I really enjoyed the stop. I had the Fajitas Omelette breakfast and the steak meats in it were very generous. Delicious breakfast exactly as I had expected. My onions green peppers potatoes were perfect with a side of salsa. Sourdough toast was delicious with the garlic butter taste. I really came for my favorite hot chocolate with whipped cream in the morning. I do miss big American breakfasts, especially in these old fashioned and traditional retro spots. Love it. Why didn't I visit this place much earlier? Because they're always busy or full inside and the plaza parking is usually congested with heavy traffic here. Overall, I love the vibes and the service. It's one of those places where you can just have normal casual conversations with the staffs working inside if you are open to it. Beautiful diner. Yes, I will be revisiting in the future. If you love huge food portions, there's great value here. One plate can easily be shared between two people. Nice.

We moved to Milpitas about a year ago and my son started going to Mil's and is a current 'Regular'. They have good food. So after a while, my husband and I started going there and we too started going there pretty regularly for breakfast, at least once or twice a week. All in all, between the family we drop a few hundred a week. And we do tip well. Most of the wait staff knows us. Today, my husband had to stop on his way home to use the restroom. He doesn't look homeless or unkempt in anyway. When he asked, they told him he couldn't unless he's a 'paying customer'. This was to a newer employee he hadnt seen before. He proceeded to explain that we eat here regularly and she still said no. He asked to speak to the manager, who does know him. He too said no. I find it ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that for a supposed family atmosphere restaurant, they couldn't extend a small courtesy. What exactly was it going to take away from them? As mentioned, we drop a good chunk of change there, and they didnt want to help out a patron that frequents the restaurant? Well, have no fear, we will NEVER darken your doorstep EVER again.

It started with the barbacoa chilaquiles. When I saw that that the chilaquiles in the menu had habaneros on it, I knew I had found my place. I often cook at home with ghost and scorpion peppers, which are not traditionally found in restaurants, but they've done some pretty amazing improvisation when I've asked to make it work. One time, I recall getting the chilaquiles and asking for extra habaneros and asking if their chef had a secret hot sauce that was stronger than "white people spicy." Miriam brought me a little ramekin of a pepper sauce puree that the chef prepared - and it was EPIC. I don't ask for that every time, but you know whoever was on the line took the request seriously and actually had some fun making my mouth burn. I can't tell you how appreciative I am of their willingness to "play" in the kitchen. Today, I went for breakfast and ordered the Carne En Su Jugo for my first time. Not just here - first time ever eating it anywhere. I had totally forgotten to ask them to make it spicy! I asked Miriam if there was anything they could do to spice it up. She assured me they could. Then I received it. And I tasted it. And it was cathartic. The chefs prepared a PERFECTLY spicy stew, and I downed that whole thing in 7 minutes. It was delicious, put some sweat on my brow, and left me feeling more than satisfied with my meal. I love this place! Miriam is always great every time I've been there. The food can take long for a reason and there's no music or TV anywhere so it's quiet. The furniture is random as well; some from an office space, elementary school, and an all wooden table with chairs from someone's grandma's house. Me and my co workers ordered 2 burritos: Regular steak and eggs and a steak bulgogi. We waited maybe 15 mins for our which wasn't too long. The burritos had this soft white cheese melted on top which gave the tortilla this vanilla sweetness. I didn't really like that. The steak meat was sweet but didn't have that bulgogi marinade taste. Both of our burritos tasted like a plain egg, potato, and blank steak breakfast burrito. It was nothing special but the size is huge and one can be shared by two people. The burritos came with this sweet chipotle sauce with some sweet peppers in which it did add some flavor. Kenny is the man though! He's super nice and proud. He's very entertaining and enjoys talking to his guests. His son is in the army so it's one of the reasons why he's very patriotic. Is it a bit much?! Sure, but this cafe wouldn't be what it is without all of this randomness. It's a neighborhood gem and a historic landmark in this side of town. Kenny is well known to the area and is beloved. We enjoyed his company. Thank you so much Kenny!!

My lunch neighbor had the Ulitmate Fried Chicken Sandwich (pic) and he likes it so much gets it every time he eats here. And the coffee? The coffee comes from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. The plates in my pics look small but in fact are large plates & might be too much food for some people. The food & service is great but the prices are a bit stiff for lunchtime however the comfort food would be right at home in any Memphis diner.

The eggs and hash brown's were too oily and needed salt, the sauce on the crab benny was grainy. The dishes completely missed the mark, they were below average for sure. At their price point, this is a place I would go for a treat not just an everyday basic meal. The coffee was good, service was nice, food came out fairly quickly and the restaurant is beautiful and spacious.

Beautiful, flaky, sweet and savory; there are so many delicious options. Gourmet pastries with gourmet coffee equals perfection. Best way to start the morning. I love that. You can actually see them fresh baking pastries while you're sitting. We didn't go overly sweet because it was the morning, but I would love to come back in the afternoon to have a nice sweet treat and a cappuccino. For my family of three we definitely got over excited in order too much, but each bite was delicious. We got a leek quiche, a banana latte, spinach, artichoke danish, mango croissant, almond croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant. I was trying to increase the protein to not spike my blood sugar. Lol. I'd have to say the mango and the almond croissant were probably my favorite. The strong second would definitely be the artichoke and spinach croissant danish thing. Sorry, I forgot what they called it. They offered to heat it up a bit and I definitely recommend this. They did the perfect temperature for the perfect timing. Just enough to make the outside flaky and the inside warm and soft. The pieces that had cheeses were so much better warmed up. They definitely know what they're doing there. Seating was great. I'd love the decor. You can also order off of a menu, but we were too enamored with the actual pastries to even glance at it. I took photos but made sure to not take photos of the staff. I let the staff know that I wouldn't include their faces without their permission. they were very friendly and very appreciative. My family loved your little shop and we will definitely be back when we're in the area.

I love having breakfast at Bill's Cafe. Unfortunately, this location is not the same experience as the two other locations I've tried. The hostess told us they had no tables, and we could sit at the bar. My daughter stated she would rather be seated at a table, and we could wait. Three customers were walking past us, and the hostess said we could have their table. We were immediately seated in a booth, and we noticed there were at least five empty tables around us, peculiar. Whatever, we had time to look and decide what we each wanted. When our waiter came for our orders, he was quick and efficient. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and drinks to arrive. We generally liked our food, but the country potatoes were a little too firm, and seemed like they weren't cooked all the way through. We had to wait awhile for refills on our drinks. We caught the hostess walking by, and asked if we could get refills and napkins. She said okay, but brought only napkins, and we waited some more for refills on coffee and water. The hostess seemed a bit brusque, on the other hand our waiter was, quick and professional. I will drive a little further to the Alameda location, because the Newbury location is not as great, or team conscious as the other location.
