The service was outstanding, it was hot, the line was growing, and the person in the food truck was moving nonstop, ensuring that everybody's meals were being sent out at the appropriate time 5/5. There was no real ambiance because it's a food truck, but it was easy to find! Overall, I give this place a 4.5 out of 5!

The flavors were ok, but everything leaned a bit too smoky for me which was a little unexpected and the cabbage overwhelmed the burrito more than it complimented them. Not sure if that's just the style of the food from the region, it just wasn't for me that night, but my other half seemed to enjoy it. That said, I still really appreciate what this spot is all about. Everything is made to order, from tacos and mulitas to quesadillas and their Sunday-only barbacoa (get there early if you want to try it--it's first come, first served!). What keeps me rooting for them is that they're a non-profit and proceeds go toward supporting the children and youth of local churches. So even if my meal wasn't as memorable this time, I'm still happy to support a business that's doing good in the community. Would I go back? Yeah, probably--especially on a Sunday to try the barbacoa. Just hoping for a little more balance the next time around.

We ordered the catch of the day poke (marlin) bowl with the spicy aioli sauce, and the Ahi poke bowl with the traditional Shoyu based sauce. We also got rice and slaw. Both fish plates were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The slaw was also very refreshing and complimented the richness of the poke really well. Perfectly soaked with the three milks, a little dash of strawberry jam on top and light strawberry whipped cream topping and filling. Geo said the last piece was the largest! Thanks to Geo and the staff at Roasted Chiles for making our dinner a delicious experience!

The fish tacos were massive. The fish had good flavor, although it leaned a little on the dry side for me. The coconut shrimp, however, were my favorite thing we tried. We happened to arrive between their two happy hour windows, and while looking at the menu, we noticed that coconut shrimp were also available during the second happy hour along with other small plates. What I found odd was their happy hour policy. Apparently, you can only order from the happy hour menu if you've already purchased an entree and can show your receipt. I've never encountered that anywhere else, and it seemed like a strange business concept. Also, it is not posted anywhere that I saw. When my husband went back to order from the happy hour menu, the cashier asked if we had previously ordered food. He said yes, but our receipt was back at the table. For some reason, she had to go to the back to get approval before allowing him to order. It felt a bit awkward, especially since she was the same cashier who had taken our original order when we first arrived and we asked a bunch of questions, so I would def remember someone like me. lol That policy aside, the coconut shrimp were fantastic. Looking back, we probably should have asked to speak with a manager while we were there, but after everything that happened, we simply felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I'll start with the positives because there were several. The drinks were delicious, the sea bass was excellent, and the dessert was absolutely incredible. The pasta itself was a little overcooked and soggy, but the flavor was still very good. The disappointing part of our evening was the service. After our server initially introduced herself, it took quite a while before she returned to take our drink order. When we were ready to order dinner, my husband was still deciding between a couple of menu items. Rather than giving him another moment, our server became visibly impatient and said she would come back after delivering our drinks. It ended up being more than 10 minutes before she returned. When I asked whether the entrees came with bread, her response made me feel embarrassed for even asking. Since they didn't, we ordered the biscuits as an appetizer to enjoy while waiting for our meals. Our children's meals arrived promptly, which we appreciated. However, our server never once stopped by to see if the kids needed anything. I had to flag down another server just to get ketchup. Meanwhile, our server walked past our table several times without checking on us or asking if we'd like another round of drinks--which we actually would have ordered. When our entrees arrived, the biscuits still hadn't come out. Shortly afterward, our server finally checked on us. I let her know that since our meals had already arrived, we no longer needed the biscuits and simply asked that they not be included on the bill. Her response was, "Well, they're made fresh and in the oven now. I guess I can go tell the kitchen you don't want them anymore." I replied, "They were supposed to be our appetizer, and our meals are already here now." Before I could even finish my sentence, she walked away while I was still speaking and appeared to mumble something under her breath. That interaction left my husband and me feeling shocked and disappointed. We've dined at many restaurants over the years and have never felt spoken to in that manner. We had considered asking to speak with a manager at that point, but honestly, we just wanted to finish our meal and leave without any further uncomfortable interactions. This was especially disappointing because Tommy Bahama has always been one of our favorite restaurants and a place we genuinely look forward to visiting whenever we're in Hawaii. We hope this experience was an exception rather than the standard, because the food continues to be wonderful--the service simply did not match the quality we've come to expect.

A Hidden Culinary Gem Don't let the unassuming location fool you--this spot is a must-try. Recommended by a restaurateur friend of my wife's, it completely won me over, despite my usual aversion to counter-service on vacation. From the moment we walked in, Peter, the owner/manager, greeted us with such warmth and hospitality that it set the tone for an amazing meal. I initially thought it was solely a fish taco joint, but I couldn't have been more wrong. While their fish tacos are indeed spectacular, they offer so much more. The coconut shrimp is some of the best we've ever had, especially when paired with the Thai-chili pineapple sauce. Seriously, ask for two sides of that sauce--it's incredible! My wife's fish tacos were a revelation. Each order comes with two tacos, but here's the genius part: each taco has an extra white corn tortilla. This means you can either keep all that delicious filling in one super-stuffed taco or easily split it into two separate ones. Her tacos were loaded with perfectly grilled fish, cheese, tomato salsa, and coconut milk, all finished with a vibrant mango salsa. She opted to tackle hers as a single, epic taco, and every bite was pure bliss. The fish was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Her only minor critique was that the slaw could have been a bit finer and slightly less abundant, but even as someone not usually keen on slaw, she was thrilled we made the trip. I went for the Mahi Mahi Fish & Chips, and it was equally impressive. The Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection, with a light, crispy crust that wasn't greasy at all. It came with a delicious tartar sauce, a generous portion of fries, and a side of coconut milk coleslaw. We've been loyal fans of Coconut's Fish Cafe since it first opened -- it used to be one of our favorite spots for fresh food and warm, welcoming service. Sadly, under the new ownership, the spirit of the place has changed, and our recent experience was really disappointing. We came in with a large party of 13 people and accidentally under-ordered by one taco plate. Our initial order took about 25 minutes to arrive, and that's when we realized the mistake. I placed an additional order and kindly asked if they could rush it so I could eat with everyone else. The person at the counter said, "probably not," and when I asked the manager, she told me they couldn't do anything either. There was no apology, no attempt at a solution -- just a flat "no." As the rest of my family ate, I waited... and waited. After 30 more minutes, I finally cancelled the order. The manager was dismissive and unbothered. It was honestly disheartening -- especially knowing how different this place used to be. Mike, the original owner, always went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and cared for. This used to be a place that felt like ohana. First time eating here me and my boyfriend got fish tacos and a side of the coconut shrimp. The fish tacos were loaded and we probably could have shared one order (which came with 2 tacos) they were some of the better fish tacos we had on the island but the fish was on the dryer side. The coconut shrimp was just okay. It didn't have that great of a flavor and kind of tasted like cardboard, the sauce that came with it was amazing tho. We've heard from many people around the island that they use frozen fish here so we wanted to ask the server. She stutter and told us that it was fresh cut in the morning... very deceiving. And the prices should be less for frozen fish. The servers also did not check up on us again after giving us our food which was disappointing and the front counter person was not very nice. We've been coming to Coconut's Fish Café for years, and the food never disappoints. The fish tacos are still some of the best on the island--fresh, flavorful, and loaded with toppings. It's a casual, welcoming spot that captures that laid-back Maui vibe we love. That said, the prices have gone up a lot since our last visit. We spent nearly $200 for four people, which was pretty shocking for a casual, counter-service meal. We understand island costs are high, but it felt like a big jump compared to just a few years ago. Still, the quality of the food and friendly service keep us coming back--it's just no longer the budget-friendly spot it once was. Ok the interior is very entertaining and radiate great energy! Surfboard seats and wood tables. TVs everywhere and surfing on to watch. You order as you enter the door and they give you your drinks and a number so be ready to order. We ordered the crusted Mahi, tacos, seafood pasta, and fish chips, and onion rings. The serve local beer only which impressed me. Food came out in about 15 min, All were delicious, fresh, and plentiful. We took several items home with us. The seafood pasta was great heated up the next day. They are open until 9:00 and we arrived at 8:15, no wait at all but plenty full inside still. This is a fast and casual place to grab a meal. The food is fair quality for the price and convenience. The prices need to be updated on their outside and inside menus. The only updated menu I saw was their paper menu version found at the register counter inside. I've attached pictures to this post for reference. Note: Kamaole Center location requires around 10 steep stairs to get to the location with no elevator access as an option. Recommend visiting the Azeka Center location if you're looking to avoid stairs. read more

As long time regulars at the original Azera's location, my wife and I couldn't wait to try the new location, which is within walking distance from our home. We met many of the same employees that were at the Azera's location. Same awesome food, same attentiveness to customer satisfaction. After trying everything on the menu, we always settle on their no. 1 seller - the fish tacos, along with a basket of fries. Love the larger dining area. The combination of fresh ingredients, perfectly flavored fish, and the delicious toppings (especially the mango) was absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorite casual dining restaurants on Maui. This particular location is nice because it has more room and is not as crowded as their original location further North. They don't use many coconut ingredients in any of their dishes. The only dish I'm aware of is coconut shrimp and the cole slaw. All the oil they use is canola & I'm not sure if she still works there, but one of their employees was convicted of being guilty of trying to poison her boyfriend who was previously my landlord. read more

Worst food we have had in Maui. Fish was frozen and not fresh. They pile up the tacos with chunks of hard cabbage, and mango and tomatoes that are not fresh. I would avoid this place. read more

We ordered the catch of the day poke (marlin) bowl with the spicy aioli sauce, and the Ahi poke bowl with the traditional Shoyu based sauce. We also got rice and slaw. Both fish plates were fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The slaw was also very refreshing and complimented the richness of the poke really well. We will absolutely be back the next time we are in Maui!

We were impressed by the flavor and portion size. So much flavor. For instance, the grilled cheese was obviously buttered well and grilled to perfection, giving a crunch on the bite but soft gooey cheese inside. The loco mocos were delicious and not too salty, the meat was tender and juicy. This may be our favorite loco moco on the island as well! We wanted to try the deep fried ahi belly but they only sell fresh caught fish, so we got the tempura battered fish (ono). It was so tender and light, a really great and fresh fish.

The touchscreen order board is convenient, but a little insensitive to touch, having to tap multiple times in certain places. I got a double portion of the Lemon Pepper Garlic Shrimp with an extra scoop of rice to soak up the sauce and an order of onion rings from the Maui Burger side of the business. My BIL wanted the Cajun Shrimp, but only a single order. We took it to go to eat back at the condo because I was not going to share with the feral chickens patrolling the dining tables. I have to say that the Cajun Shrimp had way better flavor than the Lemon Pepper, which was pretty mild. The double portion of shrimp was pretty massive with very plump shrimp. For dinner on this evening I went with the sweet chili mango shrimp and added a scoop of rice while my father went with the Makawao burger. The menu described mine as fresh local mango, bell peppers, and sautéed onions caramelized in a sweet chili sauce with an option for hot or mild. My father's was described as Swiss, bacon, onions, mushrooms, and garlic aioli. Our food came out relatively quickly and when I opened the container I loved how colorful the dish looked. Since I was hungry, I dove right in. It ended up being absolutely delicious, mostly because of the sauce. It was super garlicky with a ton of flavor and the mango added the perfect amount of sweetness. There were nine shrimp and they were cooked well with a nice natural sweetness. I also appreciated the bell peppers and onions as I feel like I do not always get enough vegetables while in Hawaii. My dad also really enjoyed his burger and even said unprompted that it was one of the better burgers he has had lately. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my dad and I enjoyed our food and if they bottled that sauce, I would absolutely buy it.

So the worker responded "well can you ask your son if he wants something else? I'll exchange at no cost. And your wife can pick a different drink". This place is by the airport in a shopping center, not near the beach area!
