We have been coming here for about a year... since we moved to the neighborhood...and we couldn't be happier. Always fast and always tasty. If you plan on dining in, and sit inside the small room a that is attached to the kitchen, be ready to put every single item you have on (underwear or otherwise) in the laundry. Being in there for more than 30 seconds will saturate your clothing in smell. If you think I am kidding, try it out and get back to me. Intense, so don't wear something you plan on wearing the next day....or get it to go. TOTALLY worth it...just plan accordingly. We get our food to go more often then not, and my husband and I always split. Chicken nachos or a bean and cheese burrito with peppers and onions. BOMB.. AFFORDABLE.... AWESOME SHREDDED CHICKEN. Both of those dishes come standard with a scoop of guacamole and sour cream. Salsa is spicy and on point... I take the extra home and put it with eggs the next morning.. fantastic. The one time we sat inside the bar, the service was crazy slow. It was ONE person for the whole bar and it can get really hectic for the waitress.. it is what it is... and everyone is always really nice...it happens. It's so nice to find a vegetarian friendly Mexican joint. This place is a little bit of a whole in the wall, the windows are dark as well as the inside. But it did not disappoint! I was introduced to Coco Renos by a very close friend a few years ago, when she was a still student at CSULB. I remember having their tofu tacos and being hooked~ I've ordered the same meal each and every time I go there. I was happy with the salsa, impressed watching tortillas turn into chips, and content crunching on tofu tacos fried to perfection. I craved it yesterday, so we hit up this hole-in-the-wall spot and worked our way through a basket of chips (cold) and spicy salsa. Not sure what made me do it, but I decided to go for the blackened mushroom tacos this time around... and they turned out just being okay. they looked great, but they were lacking zest. The rice and beans were good though. Thank goodness for staple food products! Anyway, while chomping through my meal, I noticed a citation sign posted, and that bugged me. it was for machinery or equipment, so it wasn't that bad, but my mind was already racing thinking about how this place sooo isn't what it used to be. also~ what was up with the waitress? bad day? she seemed to just want to sulk in the corner wrapping utensils. and I love how the cook straight out burst through the door for a cigarette break once our orders were in. i guess something stressful is going on there? Never getting food here again or at least take out. Ordered some beef hard shelled tacos. First off I was there before my order came out. Picked up my tacos hungry as hell. Got home in 5 opened my box of tacos and could not pick them up because the side of the taco facing the styrofoam box was soggy as fuck!! Okay taste is a relative thing but I simply cannot go along with the positive reveiws of this place. I have eaten there just once ( recently )and it was so disappointing that they will not get a second chance. The place is small as stated, and dirty, (the LA Food Inspector even says so on the outside wall sticker. ) My wife could not eat her taco because she felt the meat was spoiled. She ate only the lettuce on top and the shell setting aside the meat. Figured a night of sickeness was not worth it. I ate the Chili Relleno burrito since I had never seem one before and thought how cool but it was far below average for even the generally boring bean burrito I usually get elsewhere. One usually knows that things are going to go well or poorly after tasting the salsa ,and the salsa here seemed to us to be "off the shelf store bought "with a few added green onions to fool you. After we tried it , we both said to each other maybe we should leave but being the fool I am I decided to tough it out and see if the food might break the salsa rule. Wrong....the salsa rule remains intact. Long Beach has some really great Mexican places but they are generally where the Mexicans go. This place is not on the list. I got the deluxe veggie burrito and it was basically 4 pounds of black beans and jicama. There was not a single kernel of corn to be found in the entire burrito. Hey advertise it as having a corn avocado relish but really they just put their crappy guacamole that they also put on the side of the plate. This place! Shhhhh, don't tell anybody. It's really a hidden gem that is the average size of most people's kitchen at home. The front entrance is actually a screen door which gives it that old school home feeling as you enter the room. Be prepared to wait at times due to they only have 4-5 tables and a few stools at the counter. The service is always right on. The food is really authentic and every item on the menu is a mouth full of happiness. It's the perfect menu with a nice variety for the meat lovers and especially the vegans. You can taste the freshness in every bite. Here's a few recommendations that are some of my favs. Starting with the mountain top size carne asada nachos, the enchiladas, the large wet burritos, and the variety of tasteful tacos. The beans, the cheese, and the sauces are the perfect blend. You must also order their michelada which is second on my all time michelada list. If you do not live in the area, it far worth the drive and I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. It's also attached to the Reno Room which is a bar that has a nice selection of micro brews which you can order with your food from Coco Renos. So get in your car and drive to the LBC. read more

Wow! I dont know what happened to my beloved CocoRenos, but this place is now officially crap! This used to be my "goto" mexican joint. They used to have the best nachos and the best carne asada. Needless to say they are now far from that beloved place I held close to my heart. We haven't been here for a little over a year, and decided to go and get a carne asada burrito and some nachos. My husband ordered the carne asada burrito plate and I ordered the nachos (no beans or enchilada sauce, with sour cream on the side) When our food came it was completely wrong. His burrito was not a "plate" but more "on a plate" with no beans or rice as the "plate" states it comes with on the menu. The burrito was probably the size of one of those frozen burritos you get at the supermarket. it had only carne asada and cheese in it. (?!?) my nachos came smothered in enchilada sauce and the shredded beef was in giant 1 inch cube chunks. The cook didnt even take time to shred the beef a LITTLE. It was impossible to eat. I literally had 4 chips and used my fork to take a bite out of the shredded beef. After asking the waitress what was up with my husbands carne asada plate she got all confused and said she didnt see the option on the menu for the "plate" and that the cook must have made a mistake by not putting beans and rice IN the burrito or on the side. so she brought us a giant plate of beans to make up for it (?!?) made no sense. I miss the old cooks and the old waitresses. The only thing I still like about the place is that the salsa hasnt changed at all. hence the ONE star... We don't dine out often, but we've been here several times since we moved to the Long Beach area. Most of all, I love this place for their ample vegetarian options. We've had most of their options (tofu, blackened mushrooms, etc) and liked them all. They also have very tasty margaritas. Every time I go to Coco Renos I order two tofu tacos (w/ no dairy) and am sure it will be enough food. And it should be, but every time as I get drunker and drunker I hear myself yelling "Two more of these awesome tacos!" over and over and over. Both the tofu and blackened mushroom tacos are great, and the burrito with tofu is delicious. I was a little skeptical of tofu in mexican food at first, but they pull it off magnificently.
