This is my 3rd time going to Coco's in Mission Hills, Ca. Must say I love this place. I will start with the employees. One that outshines there is an employee by the name of Anttonet. She is truly amazing! Very polite and on the 3 times of me showing up, not only does she gives me a big smile but has always made my experience there very pleasant. She is very attentive. Another employee is the manager and his name is Efrain. Efrain is extremely pleasant and very polite too. He is Always making sure his guests at Coco's are satisfied. I remember when you could get seated, order and eat in under an hour. Something changed and now you are lucky to get seated, order and eat in under 2 hours. The only person actually working there was our Waitress, she was apologetic and went to management who wouldn't even show their face. It doesn't get any better if you try to go in for pie either. Meh. To be honest the only reason I came by here was because I was sick and in need of soup that wasn't out of a can. Coco's was the ONLY place open at 10PM on a Monday night that I knew for a fact had soup, so that was where we went. I've visited this location before, but I almost felt guilty for choosing this place the other night. Our server was on the slow side. After waiting about 15 minutes we literally had to say "I wonder where our waitress is?" for her to come back from talking to her coworker behind the glass next to our booth and take our order. I found this odd because if you have a customer coming in an hour before closing and they want to get out of your way ASAP, wouldn't you want to get their orders out faster? Mind boggling. Food is what you'd expect from Coco's. Its a chain American restaurant, nothing really unique. The bread was a hard and cold and they never gave us plates to eat it off of. Awkward... My salad was just ok with dressing poured over it. My soup was just fine. I probably could have done better with my canned soup. Oh well. I went to a cocos in Simi Valley before and the food was gross and the place dirty. I found out the hard way that when you ask if they have ranch they tell you yes then bring you the "house dressing" which is like blue cheese mixed with god knows what and they say it's ranch. I came to this one with family after a memorial hoping it would be better for breakfast. I was wrong. The hostess seated us at a booth and chair table combo or should I say led us to a table. Nobody took a seat because booth and table was sticky and had food all over it. We asked a nearby waitress if they could wipe down the table and booth before we sat down. She looked really exasperated and said fine. Went and got a rag and asked where we would like her to wipe. Maybe where the food and grease streaks are? She quickly "cleaned the booth by wiping food into the already gross floor. Ordered breakfast and waitress asked if my mil wanted sausage and bacon. She asked for all bacon. The waitress says ok no bacon. So sausage. We told her she said all bacon not no bacon and she got all annoyed and was like that's not what it sounded like. Ended up serving her all sausage and no bacon even though we specifically clarified it with her. Coffee was never refilled and the food wasn't very good. Pancakes were ok. My bf enjoyed them. Everyone else was unenthused. Took forever to get the food and the bill. Bathrooms were awful when I went to wash the sticky off my hands at the end of the meal since I made the mistake of touching the back of my chair when I got up. We are visiting from Texas and just walked out the door without eating.. while waiting to be seated, we observed the chef/cook eating while preparing patrons food. He did it a few times. Then the waitress brought back a plate of toast to him with her WHOLE HAND on top of the toast with no gloves. The chef/cook then proceeded to eat more and pull his mask up over his mouth, not nose, just mouth.. also wiped his sweat with the back of his hand.. never wearing gloves or washing hands.. all while cooking the food of the patrons in the restaurant.. we are now sitting at KFC next door eating chicken, something we could have ate in Texas.. very disheartening, we were looking forward to breakfast at CoCo's but it's gonna be a NO NO!!! read more

I was once a regular at Cocos. Actually, scratch that. I practically lived here. I came every Sunday and at least one more time during the week. Why? you may ask? Well its simple. TORTILLA SOUP! I absolutely love Tortilla Soup and this is where my obsession began. Actually no, I lie. It originally stemmed from the Tortilla Soup at Millies just down the street from Cocos but their Tortilla Soup is extremely plain. Cocos however is much more complex and well thought out! Where do I begin? Each centimeter of this yummy bowl of awesomeness has something delicious just waiting to be gobbled up by you. It contains some spices, shredded chicken, boiled carrots and onions and is topped with dyed red tortilla chips and shredded cheddar cheese that melts with the heat from the soup. I don't want to get too into what exactly the spices are because after years of eating this I have mastered it and can make my own now- it actually isnt that difficult I just like to seem special. :) In regards to the broth, it's not bland because of the spices that are thrown into this holy concoction. The great part about this soup is that it can be filling depending on my day and can also be a great addition to my meals albeit breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now that I released my love for Tortilla Soup on Yelp I can continue with the rest of the food. Breakfast: My main squeeze for breakfast is Eggs Benedict. They have them here and they have country potatoes. This is an awesome combination because the hollandaise is delicious and the lemon isn't overwhelming. I love dunking my potatoes in the sauce. Sandwiches: I usually order the Turkey, Avocado, Jack Croissant. Its a fresh sandwich and is great on hot days but I do have to admit that the turkey can be a little bland at times. But I douche my sandwiches and burgers with ketchup so I tend to forget about it after a few squirts of some yummy Heinz. Dinner: Can't say that I've ever really had. Appetizers: Chicken Avocado rolls. Theyre good but the chipotle sauce is a little overwhelming and just masks the avocado so they're kind of hard to enjoy. Oh and they always give free bread, always nice and warm so make sure you ask for yours. Delicious. Staff has always been very friendly, helpful and attentive. I don't come here as often anymore but I do come on fun bff dates with my grandma where we drive away in food comas. So 5 stars for the fun times & food comas! read more

My family and I enjoy Coco's Family Restaurant for numerous reasons. First off, it is nicer than a iHop or Denny's, secondly, they have a bakery that provides fresh muffins, pies, and croissants which is plus in my family's book because we all enjoy our carbs. Thirdly, their overall atmosphere is homier than iHop or Denny's. Lastly, they have a fantastic seasonal menu; pumpkins, strawberries, oh my! Everything my family and I have tried is good; at least when it comes to breakfast. Coco's Cinnamon Roll French Toast (sweet but good) California Omelet (healthier option that still fulfills your breakfast needs) Meatlover's Omelet (salty but hardy and good) Denver Omelet (dad's favorite; his go-to place for a Denver Omelet) Classic Breakfast Combo (a little bit of everything) Classic Eggs Benedict (my favorite, tangy and cheesy sauce) *they serve country style hashbrowns *they have healthy options The food is better and maybe a little bit more expensive than iHop or Denny's. The only complaint I have about this Coco's is that the service is always a hit or a miss depending on whose working. Tip Grab a treat to go. I tried going back several times and my experience got worse. I don't know why they bother asking you how your food and service was because they don't even care. On my last and final visit, I had dinner there with my family and all our dishes were barely edible. When I complained about it at the register, the girl's only response was "Oh". I have complained to management but to no avail. My last visit: Over cooked fish, more croutons than lettuce in my Caesar salad, really soggy fries and the magical disappearing waitress! I have a bunch of four letter words I could use to describe this place but Yelp is not the place for that. I don't know what's so bad about this place? I'm reviewing the bakery part of the restaurant. BEST. PECAN PIE. I'VE EVER HAD. I used to think the concept of pecan pies were a little gross. They never looked appetizing to me, especially with their mystery goo just oozing out when you cut a slice. But boy, was I wrong. A crunchy topping, flavorful filling. I felt soooo bad when I ate like 3 or 4 slices one day. I grew 2 pounds. Stop on by and try their pies. Even though this Cocos and many other Cocos are not the triendiest place to eat the food isn't half bad. I have ordered the all whitemeat turkey burger,shrimp scampi and chineese chicken salad. Many of thier pires are good too. The Tollhouse pie is good,chocolate ganache cream cheese pie is also good. The downside of this cocos location is the service is slow and it takes forever to get your food. Although they had a system crash and were overwhelmed on Thanksgiving, the manager, Ken Sumner, did an excellent job trying to handle an impossible situation. Coco's Restaurants have gone through changes in the last years. I have been coming to this one since I was a tyke and used to come regularly for dinner 1-2 times a week for a while. Service appears to have improved. The food is not extraordinary but it's occasionally good. Coco's is solid comfortable, casual sit-down spot. This Coco restaurant is a great place to eat at. The food is always good and the service is wonderful. I had gone in with sisters for lunch and because it is my birthday my mom who is elderly and the manager helped seat my mom to a table that was very nice. Our waitress Monics was amazing so super sweet always checking on our table to see if we needed anything. The best part was the staff sang happy birthday too me. Coco's on Sepulveda for breakfast is probably ok. DO NOT GO FOR THE PRIME RIB DINNER OR STEAK. The prime rib tasted like a dog chewed it and gave it to you. I took it back twice and ordered a steak instead. I said RARE... It came out Medium. This restaurant will probably close soon. The one on Devonshire is already a Chick Filet. Why are coffee shops dying.......If you eat the prime rib or steak eat it at your own risk. I waited a half an hour to refill my coffee. Restaurant was fairly empty. read more

In the past I have tried to avoid this place due to one nasty server, she is such a nasty lady! I have spoken with the manager before about her and I actually just walked out before my food came because Kathy is so nasty. I cannot believe she works there still I went back last week to meet a friend for breakfast. Food was good and the server was very nice and accomodating. He was very sweet and we got everything in a timely manner and he even smiled a few times! Thanks Kevin for being awesome! The cons to this place is: there is NEVER anyone at the front, you will stand there for awhile and many people will walk by and just look at you.
