Hot day... I wanted some soft serve and just happened upon this joint. Flash back to the 80's . Has parking and some indoor seating. The burgers smell great. I got the mixed cone dipped and it was so cold it held up to the heat ! Go enjoy some Cali nostalgia. Friendly service and the folks were hustling.

This has quickly become one of my favorite dessert shops! Upon entering, you quickly get hit with a classic, nostalgic vibe. The atmosphere feels like a throwback to the 1990's, with warm, family-friendly service. Fosters Freeze offers burgers, fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, desserts and much more! Let's talk about the food. I have tried one of their burgers, their waffles fries and a couple of their desserts. The burger that I tried was, The Big Boss. Savory, melty cheeses; crispy bacon and onion rings offer a satisfying crunch. Balanced by fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles and a tangy secret sauce. The burger instantly made me feel like I was eating a burger from an old school diner. Would I recommend it? Yeah, I would! Score: 4/5 Next up, the Waffle Fries. Oh, my goodness! These were some of the best fast-food fries that I've ever had!! Crispy, well-seasoned and perfect for dipping. They paired so well with my burger. Would I get them again? In a heartbeat! Score: 5/5 Time for the desserts! I've tried two desserts so far, and both far exceeded my expectations. Let's start with the Banana Split. The Banana Split consists of, vanilla soft‑serve nestled between a long split banana, topped with three sauces--strawberry, chocolate, pineapple--plus whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. The portions for this treat are very generous. The Banana Split is a delicious indulgence--but definitely a treat to share. This is my favorite dessert from this shop! Score: 5/5 Last but not least, the Butterfinger Banana Parfait. This parfait consists of, smooth vanilla soft‑serve layered with banana and Butterfinger crumbles. It also has whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry. The portion is good enough for one person to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this combination. Score: 5/5 Overall, Fosters Freeze is ideal for nostalgic crave, family meals, and indecisive crowds (there's something for everyone). Ambiance: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5

I'm so happy this place is still here and going strong! We almost always go in for vanilla cones. They are the absolute best here. The burgers are also great and don't even get me started on the delicious waffle fries! The service is quick and it's always busy. I love the old fashioned decor, just like it was when I was a kid, completely with the neon sign. We just rediscovered Fosters Freeze and I'm sure we'll be going at least weekly from now on.

I love fosters! I've been coming to this location since high school days and they haven't changed much in taste! Their cheese burgers are so creamy and flavorful. I like that they use crinkle fries and they season them nicely. Their strawberry lemonade is so good and they put real strawberry chunks in it so it's not just syrup or strawberry liquid. Their ranch is yummy and thick. I would recommend giving their burgers a try. My only complaint is i asked for bacon on my burger and it was fatty and only one slice of bacon which was annoying but other than that it was great and i will be back!

I love coming here. Its a very casual place to come with friends/family. Burgers are amazing! I also love their chili cheese fries. Desserts are delicious, I love getting the mud pie & parfaits. Staff is always super friendly. Def recommend! :)

Does anybody know the health rating? Last time I checked, It was a "C"

Last time i looked it wasn't a C anymore ! That scared me a bit too but to be honest can't remember if it was an A or B probably a B but most definitely not a C. They replaced some stuff inside

The staff is pretty nice (and my order is kinda complicated/long), the food is always good, and it's never like too busy. I kinda come here for my work lunch like way too often ;-; They're fast, super consistent, tasty, generally really good. Sometimes if its busy or i get unlucky my order will miss a beat like normal vs extra crispy or something, but its like 9/10 or 19/20 perfect hits The only thing i can criticize is the parking, I don't get it. Like 75% of it is EV or compact but almost everyone just parks anywhere anyways so its whatever Overall my favorite in n out really happy they opened

I just want this Sylmar location to be better. I ordered three Double-Doubles Animal Style with whole grilled onions through the drive-thru. I told the first employee, then reminded the second employee when he repeated my order without the onions. He even relayed the request to the team. After waiting through the long drive-thru line, I picked up our food and brought it home to my family. We opened the burgers... zero onions. Not only were the whole grilled onions missing, but they forgot the onions entirely on all three burgers. Mistakes happen, and I normally wouldn't make a big deal out of it. But after specifically mentioning the onions multiple times to 2-3 employees, it was pretty frustrating to end up with none. I still love In-N-Out, but this Sylmar location has a consistently slow drive-thru, and this experience definitely didn't help. Hopefully they can tighten things up... because I really want to keep loving this location as much as I love In-N-Out.

It has American, Mexican and Ethiopian food, so there is something for everyone :) I started with the Sambusa with beef and really liked it! The waitress recommended us to eat it with salsa from their salsa bar and it paired perfectly. It was a little oily but great flavor regardless! I also got the Awaze tips with Injera and beef. The injera was a spongey tortilla/bread like carb that was covered with a beef/veggies mixture. We were able to adjust the spice level on this since the waitress warned us the dishes were very spicy but to be honest, it wasn't spicy at all and I would like to try the other dishes with spice next time. The Awaze tips dish was really good and pretty big portion. Excellent service and food! I would love to come back to try more.

I loved the owner's story that led to their decision to feature Ethiopian, Mexican, and American menu items. The ambiance is definitely nostalgic of the restaurant that came before it, which added to the charm. I tried their chickpea stew with injera, and was a huge fan. The service was very friendly as well. I overheard the staff talking in the back about how they were getting noticed on social media, so it warms my heart to see great restaurants get the promotion they deserve. Will be back the next time I'm in the area!

I have been wanting to try the bbq here for some time now and I finally got the opportunity to do…read moreso. Big Pops is accommodating to dine in and take out but I will say it can get quite warm in there as you are eating which for me it was they do however have two tower fans for the guests when it gets hot but it was just me in there and so it was off but still I run hot and I was starting to warm up while eating. With that being said I think the service for what is worth wasn't too bad. This place is nice and decorated and very quiet other than the radio playing in the back ground for the cooks. There are a few tables inside that can seat about maybe 10-12 max and they do have a drink fridge for you to choose what drinks to get. The person helping me out was very quiet didn't ask me if it was my first time or anything like that maybe just the hello and such but he was polite but just not welcoming I suppose. Since it was my first time I didn't know what to get and I think it's my fault for sure for not asking more and engaging on what I should get because I only asked like one question about the Tri tip plate and stuff but I ended up getting that and I will say it's quite a bit of food but at the same time it can get pricey I paid about & $29 for the plate with tip ended up being $34 in total. It's about what you would expect from a barbecue place. So with the plate or any plate as show on the menu, you do get a small side of fries, a piece of corn bread and a small side. The small sides are about $2.99 for and as shown in my picture they are that small like a tiny ramekin like double or triple the size of what you get from a sample from Costco. So the fries are fries nothing special about them but they were fried well and it had a nice crisp outside when you bite into it and the inside was cooked right. The corn bread was spectacular in my opinion! It was moist and flavorful with every bite! I used it to dip into my Tri tip plate because of the sauce and it was great! The Mac and cheese I will say was ok. Barely any flavor and it honestly reminded me of getting Mac and cheese from the grocery store hot deli like Ralph's and Vons because the consistency and texture of it really felt like it was made the same way and flavor wise as well because there as no flavor now with that being said I will say maybe my tastebuds were already saturated and nuked by the sauce from the Tri tip (which I'll get to a moment) and I couldn't appreciate the Mac and cheese as well or tell if it was salted or peppered or something. But to me it was pretty bland Mac and cheese like I wouldn't pay for it as my side. Now I will say that's the only side I got I didn't buy the others which I regret because maybe those sides were the ones you should be eating like the baked beans or collard greens which is the more essential sides of any barbecue eatery. So definitely the Mac and cheese was a miss for me and next time I'll get the other sides instead. Now the main course which is the Tri tip. I loved the Tri tip it was nice and tender and you get about 10 ounces and in the photo I have it's a lot! But I will say this, there are people who love wet barbecue and dry barbecue I'm a person who loves the dry barbecue as in only into dry rub and stuff I dont mind saucy meat but an over abundance of sauce just ruins it for me and this was the case for my Tri tip. In my photo you can definitely see that it is heavily drenched in their barbecue sauce which by the way is very flavorful no doubt about it! But it was so sweet and so saucy also it wasnt spicy as I had the option to choose from regular or spicy but there was no indication of spiciness at all. Like maybe I'm just used to spicy food but whatever is meant to make that spicy didn't really shine out and that was a big disappointment. I'm not really into sweet foods which most barbecue sauces are sweet or very vinegary based. This is very sweet and very acidic like my mouth was nuked. But the Tri tip itself was amazing! But my plate had too much sauce and it was too sweet and vinegary like I could swim in the sauce is how saucy it was. No matter how I felt about my saucy Tri tips that's how you're supposed to eat it as is because that's how they made it and it would be a disservice to do so differently. With that being said over all the food was great except for the bland Mac and cheese and heavily sweetened barbecue sauce all over my Tri tip other than that it was great.. Again if you're not into eating super saucy barbecue or you're a dry rub type of barbecue eater like me then I would warn you again that it gets saucy here hahaha at least for my plate. I'm still gonna come back because I'd like to try their other stuff and also it's a local business and helping support them and any other local business is great! So for me it's 4 stars out of 5! Thank you again! :)

When we got there, there were only a few tables with guests in the whole restaurant, likely because we got there at 8pm and they close at 9pm. But we stood at the front for a few minutes before anyone greeted us, and when we finally were "greeted", a man just came up to us and looked at us with confusion and didn't say anything, just raised his eyebrows. I said, "Hi! We have 5 adults. May we sit outside please?" He said sure and guided us outside to our table with not much said. We waited quite a while before a server came over to us, and it ended up being the same guy that brought us to the table originally. He came over to us and said, "Drinks?" It was sort of awkward how unwelcome we felt. That was pretty much our entire experience with the server: very slow service, and very few words. Once we put our food order in, we grabbed the Uno deck at a neighboring table to play until the food came out. That was actually really fun! But we waited for the food for so long - playing multiple games of Uno with 5 people and still not having our food. It was painful - especially since it seemed there was not much going on around us. Our hope was the food would be a saving grace here to our first time experience at this restaurant, but unfortunately it was not. My father-in-law liked his salmon dish, and my husband said the steak melt was decent, rating it at a 6.5-7/10. My mother-in-law said she liked her French dip, but barely touched it. My sister-in-law's short ribs had way too much sauce on it and too much salt, so she could not finish hers either because of that. My truffle burger was overwhelmed by blue cheese to the point where you could not taste anything else, so I also could not finish mine because of that. In the end, we all spoke about it and the highlight for our family was that they had Uno available for tables to play. But unfortunately we all agreed we would never be back.
