Why has it taken me this long to review Coffee Commissary? It really came down to a visit one Sunday morning with my now wife (just married the day before), her sister and sister's husband. Neither of them had been here yet, so my wife and I took them under our wing and showed them the way of the delicious breakfast burritos. We like to walk here from across Kenneth, it's really a great experience. When it's just my wife and I, we like to do the Atlantic Sunday crossword puzzle while we eat. Cute little cafe in the middle of Kenneth village aka the most adorable little street. They have a small parking lot in the back but there is street parking available also. When I first walked in I got this New York vibe. It was very industrial chic, which I love. They didn't have many workers so I had to wait for a while until the barista / waitress / order taker took my order. Also, they don't have a variety of selections for food. Especially for breakfast. I wanted something in the healthy side that is not a pastry and the only thing close to that was the vanilla yogurt with home made granola. So I went with that and regular iced coffee. I made sure to ask the woman if the yogurt was too sweet and she said no. Moments later my coffee came out followed by the yogurt granola. It was made in the cutest mason jar and I'm a sucker for cute presentations. Despite what the worker told me, the yogurt was indeed on the sweeter side. It also had a lot of cinnamon inside which I like but that much of it was overwhelming and took over the whole thing. I couldn't finish it, after 3 bites I was pretty much done. I am a coffee connoisseur and I can't believe that I have never visited a Coffee Commissary ever until today. It's also bad enough that I have lived just about my whole life/my parents still live in this beautiful part of Glendale. I have loved Kenneth Village ever since I was a kid growing up in the area, and as sad as I was to see Chris and Tom's Liquor go, I am so glad this spot went up in its place. I loved the cold brew, it has such a hearty taste that you can't compare to other coffee joints. I love mine with cream and some Splenda (don't judge me). I had also gotten the Rocky Road cookie to take home for my daughter, it didn't make it home. Fair warning: one bite of that delicious, gooey, nutty cookie and you'll wished you had taken a dozen home. My gawdddddddd is it good! This place was bumping Lil Wayne before school had gotten out, it was a different and pretty awesome, cozy atmosphere to be in. Had I not had to take my coffee and cookie to go I totally would have stayed to chill. Parking is street and there is a lot close to the place and there is also parking behind in the alley. Service on 7/31 (sun) night was bad. Both baristas hated their lives and had poor attitude throughout taking order, serving, and general correspondence. Don't come here often enough to know if these are miserable and rude individuals, or they were having a sh*t day. Either way, it ruined our post dinner family outing celebrating a birthday... so maybe next time I avoid this spot. Hire people with better attitudes that are cordial and respectful (not even asking for cheerful and nice). Drinks are also overrated, even when I've been here before, it's a notch above Starbucks and a notch below philz... Prices however are high. Seems like a hipster brand of coffee where they try and mimic independent roasteries, however they fail in delivering. Id prefer to go to the new Unincorporated Coffee Roasters in burbank where there is exceptional service and outstanding coffee. read more

Nice coffee shop in Kenneth Village, sleak modern design, hip spot with fairly loud music, and clean. Was starving and in the area so dropped in for some food. I was going to get the rice bowl, but they were out of rice, so got the fried chicken sandwich instead. It was SO GOOD! Chicken was hot and moist, fried perfectly with good crispy outside, bun was soft, and the acidity of the pickled veggies balanced the spicy flavors out well. Would go back and order it again for sure. Didn't get any coffee because it was late but the drinks others had looked good. Damn I hate to leave a bad review especially because things are barely opening & we've been through a lot during quarantine however, this location has one of the most unwelcoming staff ever. I feel like they all hate working there. The first time I came here some guy gave me a hard time because I ordered an iced chai with half sweetness. He literally said it was too complicated. My friends love this place so I wanted to give it another shot. We ordered a salmon Benedict, a Fairfax sandwich, iced chai, & a green tea latte. (Note: the female cashier said they don't serve the rose pistachio latte) After ordering, we were informed that they don't have a Benedict sandwich but they can change it to the salmon toast. We ordered our eggs over easy because apparently poached is something they only do on weekends. It took about 30 mins for our order to arrive. Our eggs was not over easy. & they complete forgot to add the bacon to my sandwich. The Fairfax was literally eggs & bacon! My potatoes were also over cooked to the point where it was just crispy. I just felt like I couldn't enjoy my food. & I asked someone over the packing area if they can bring my missing bacon. He said yeah. But no apologies or anything & just walked away. I'm disappointed that by the time I got my bacon my friends were already done eating. I didn't wanna finish my food because we had to go & you can't take eggs for takeout. I'm sure this place gets more business before quarantine so I'm shocked that their standard of service is subpar. Really like this spot... Also really confuses me that some people here think that staff are not nice. They have the most "on it" staff of any coffee shop I have been to here in LA, and I have lived here 15 years. Within seconds of walking in for a pickup, every time, they are already asking for a name. I mean... I don't know what people are expecting. Don't get me wrong, I love fancy, fun coffee houses... I just don't love the premium prices. So if I'm going to splurge, I want something, most likely the coffee and/or the atmosphere, to be special. This is especially true if I'm buying coffee for 4-5 people. Coffee commissary is located on a cute little street in North Glendale and the design of the interior is trendy and a touch loud...which is fine. The line of people is to be expected at places like this, but the fact that only one barista seemed to be working seemed a bit irregular. Other people behind the counter seemed to be preparing and delivering food for customers. There was a buzz of several workers engaged in activity, but I noticed more than once when a customer came up to the counter to ask a question or request something, no one was paying attention enough to help them. The person taking orders also seemed a bit preoccupied with something other than serving customers which came off as a bit dismissive, although she seemed to be fairly helpful to me when I let her know it was ouR first time visiting CC. I'm going to start with the food. I had the trix pancakes and brisket breakfast burrito and an almond latte. 1. I highly recommend the pancakes. 3 pancakes and the syrup is delicious, very sweet with a hint of like an orange peel lol that's my best attempt at describing that after taste. 2. The brisket breakfast burrito... oh my goodness, it was the best breakfast burrito I've ever tasted. It also comes with chips and an extremely tangy salsa. Just look at the picture I posted. 3. Almond latte was great as well, very almondy. Lol hope that helps. I am so happy a place like this is now open in Glendale. Vibe is awesome, very modern. Inside there are high tables with stools and booths. Also, there is outside seating around the cafe. There is a small parking lot next to the cafe a little more towards Western. Thinking of going there? Just informing you what to expect: I haven't tried their food or even coffee. I had a tea the two times I went there so this review isn't based on that. However, be prepared to have to either have noise cancelling head phones if you are studying, or have to yell at each other like you are at a club if you are going there to have some good conversation. The music is VERY loud and today both me and my friend asked them very nicely, several times, if they could please turn down the music. We either got a pretty rude, 1 word and clearly careless response saying yes to turning it down. Or awkwardly "obviously not going to, but still saying yes" responses. And they didn't touch the volume at all but instead kept blasting the music. I am honestly not coming back here ever again just because of the disrespectful, careless, and bad service. There is plenty of seating AND outlets(!) which makes it a perfect spot for studying and it also closes later than most coffee shops around the area. Also tried the brunch brisket bowl, which was very crispy fried potatoes topped with two sunny side up eggs, brisket, and hollandaise. The bowl as a whole was delicious as a whole, with a highlight on the hollandaise. The potatoes near the end were a bit dry, but does not lower my "rating" of the entire bowl. The good stuff: Good coffee selection (49th Parallel, Coava, Take Flight, Geometry), interesting drinks, cookies are delicious, customer service is on point, good amount of seating and parking. Con: Their cold brew deserves -1 star because it was a bit watery and overpriced. Most places charge $5 for nitro and $4 for single. I might understand if this was dtla but it's north Glendale. Been meaning to try this place as we randomly passed by and it looked like a "hidden gem" in Glendale. I read the reviews about the bad service but we wanted to check it out for ourselves. Food was good, coffee was good but kind of small for the price. One thing that I agree with other people reviewing is the service also disappointed us. Gentleman at the front was kind, but the woman with dark hair and bangs was extremely rude to my wife who is an immigrant from another country but she does speak English. My wife is a known food blogger overseas. she definitely won't recommend this place to a lot of her following owho come to LA for vacation. She will just detour them to Urth or Philz coffee. My new favorite coffee spot!! I first learned about this place on a job when a friend I was working with brought me an order of coffee and a slice of their harvest loaf for breakfast. The harvest loaf is the single most amazing piece of bread I've ever had. And it's vegan!! It's like a pumpkin bread and it's very moist and a bit spongy with walnuts and sunflower seeds and a lot of hearty goodness. I decided to come here again the next day because I loved the harvest loaf so much that I had to get it again for myself. The service was amazing and all of the workers were extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome in the space. I was also lucky enough to get a fresh warm slice of the bread and can't wait to go back to try the rest of their selection of pastries. I was also very surprised at how much I enjoyed the coffee. I'm by no means a coffee connoisseur and feel like coffee is just coffee but the one my friend ordered for me (not sure what it was) was delicious!! All around an amazing spot!
