Thank you for your response. I appreciate that you took the time to reply, but I believe your response misses the main issue. Good business etiquette is simple: when a business makes a mistake, it should acknowledge it, correct it immediately, sincerely apologize to the customer, and ensure the customer leaves satisfied. That builds trust and demonstrates accountability. Instead, much of your response focuses on explaining that the price tag may have been moved accidentally by staff or customers. Those are explanations, not accountability. This was one of the last two pieces left in the display, and the incorrect price tag should have been noticed well before my purchase. As I also stated in my response to the Agricultural Commissioner of Weights & Measures Inspector, I am almost certain that after I shared my experience and reviews on social media, the pricing discrepancies would have been already corrected. If that is the case, I genuinely hope those changes help make sure future customers are charged accurately and fairly. Regarding the Kyiv cake, my concern is relatively minimal compared to the pricing issue. It simply did not taste as good as it used to. It lacked the freshness and flavor we had previously enjoyed, and it tasted somewhat stale. This is the least of my concern. What concerns me most is the lack of accountability. Businesses earn customer loyalty by owning their mistakes, not by offering explanations for why they may have happened. A sincere apology, immediate correction and a commitment to making things right would have been a much more appropriate response. read more

What better way to say happy new year's eve and ring in the new year than with the most delectable cakes on the East side? The cream puff, the eclair, and the chocolate cakes were all delectable. I couldn't stop eating and the assorted box brought in for my team was a temptation I kept circling back to especially after a 30 hour long call. The cakes were so good I found myself walking around the hospital with cake crumbs smeared across my chin and not a single part of me could feel anything but pure bliss- 10/10 for the most lovely cakes I've had a chance to indulge in. And, these sweet treats were essential for helping me stay awake at the tail end of the call period, I had beeb fighting to stay awake and then the sugar rush hit. If you're looking for another great cake/ bakery option in the Glendale area other than Porto's (and specifically for CAKES)- try Karina's. They have a Kievsky cake with OR without nuts that's a huge hit at celebrations. There was a line, you take a number and wait to be called- but pretty quick in getting to you. I haven't tried any of the other cakes YET. *The only request I have is for the staff: they can smile a little and be patient while answering questions about their cake selections. They know they're cakes are good, and it won't stop people from buying, but it's nice to have a welcoming attitude , especially for the customers. 7 out of 10 for me (only because of their customer service). read more

This bakery is FIRE!!! Everything I've tried there is delicious! But my all time favs are the almond cookies with and without filling, the meringue cookies - very sweet but melts in your mouth and my all time is the Kievsky (not sure if I spelled that right) cake. I asked every time if they sell if per slice but you can only get it in whole cake form. Its a tiny bakery in Glendale with very limited parking but luckily there is street parking available. If you're in the area, try it out. read more

The cake is made of a mix of thin layers of cake separated by a thin layer of cream. Ideal Slice (4/5) - The ideal slice was similar in favor to the honey slice but with nuts and slightly drier. I'm shocked that the quality of my favorite cakes, Kievski and Kutuzov, has declined. On Valentine's Day, I ordered a Kievski cake, and the decor was terrible. You'd think they'd decorate with red strawberries, but all I got was a plain blackberry cake. I had to go out and decorate it with chocolate strawberries and add a love sign to make it more like a Valentine's Day cake. The decor is the least of my complaint considering that when I cut it and shared it with my family, all we tasted was baking soda. I was so disappointed that I threw the entire cake away. A few days later, we decided to try the Kutuzov cake. When we cut it, it was very dry, and the cream was so white that I thought they made it with whipped cream. But it tasted sour and had a strong baking soda taste. When we called the store, the manager said that it's possible that the Kutuzov cake was frozen even though she also said they made it that day. Why freeze it then??? She said to give it time to thaw, but we had guests over at the moment, who wants to wait for the cake to thaw. She also said that they use sour cream, which is why it's sour. When we insisted that the quality of both cakes were not to our expectation, the manager said that we NEED to bring the cakes to their store so they can taste it to see what was wrong with it. They said our tastes can be different. Mind you, I'm the one who paid for these cakes and have been eating them for the last 20 years. Also, it was raining heavily, and we didn't have a car at the time. We just paid heavy delivery fees for Uber to deliver these cakes to us and we have to deliver it back to them??? Not a sign of good customer service. The next day the manager called us and said we will pay for Uber to come and pick up the cake. What? Does she think I have a giant fridge to hold on to something that im not going to eat, I told her the cake went in the trash. What a waste of $90+ for these cakes. We were very disappointed with both cakes and the response we received from the manager of the store. Instead of offering future store credit or some type of compensation, their response was to bring the cakes back to the store. Looks like we won't be returning to Karina's anytime soon. read more

We've been a loyal customer of Karina for years, it's prolly our to-go cake for birthdays. When I needed a customized cake for a big event, they were my first thought. I asked for 3 layered cake, Kievsky flavor for all the layers. The size was meant for 100 people. I paid $640 including delivery. It didn't include the floral toppers and birthday sign topper. I understand that while you aren't able to make the exact cake from a photo I still expected something quite similar, which from the photos you can tell the colors are completely off.
