This is the first visit I've had with this place. The only complaint I have about this cute spot is that when I went up to the front, no one was there. I waited for 10 minutes, and finally someone came to take my order. Moving on, everything else was perfect. If you were comparing this place to Cafè Du Monde in New Orleans, this would..(can't believe I'm saying it) beat it. I ordered the Beignet Fingers, which were so cheap! Everything is cheap. The powder tasted so real and fresh, unlike some other places. It's so tempting to just eat the powder itself. On the 3rd day of our girls' weekend in New Orleans and found this little gem of a restaurant and it had the best gumbo we found so far. My friend raved about it the entire time we ate and kept saying we should buy some to take home. We ate at the Gumbo Shop our 1st night and I thought it was good but my friend the connoisseur of Cajun food thought it was lacking in the meat department. The gumbo at the Coffee Shop was full of big pieces of chicken and sausage, had one of the two in each bite! The beignets were even better than Cafe Dumonde (but Cafe Dumonde had the best cafe au lait to date). They were light, airy and came with fillings. I posted the menu. Our ratings are: 5+++ for the gumbo 5 for the beignets 4 for the cafe au lait 3.5 for the shrimp bouree because of the heavy gravy-like sauce 3 for the red beans and rice So if you plan to drive out to Gonzales for the Outlet Malls stop at Exit #182 off of I-10 for a bowl of gumbo! read more

Stopped by the Cajun village to get last minute souvenirs and decided to go try the coffee house. The coffee was not bad and their beignet tasted awesome! Cajun village appears to be just a novelty sort of rest stop on the outside, but this coffee house has a good offering for southern breakfast and lunch. This is in a little area of town doesn't look like much ,but have the best pancakes. They are served on a large pizza platter that's how big they were, there were five of us and we could not eat all of them it was a stack of 3. The waitress was friendly and helpful. read more

While visiting Louisiana for the first time I was told I had to try beignets. We went to the Coffee House and I tried the beignet fingers. I feel like I have been missing out on this delicious treat my entire life. The powdered sugar coating was perfect. It was unseasonably cool weather on the day we experienced this restaurant so I ordered a hot chocolate (I don't drink coffee). The hot chocolate was a perfect compliment to the beignet fingers. The Coffee House is right next to some unique shops and a live gator observation area. I already cannot wait to go back to Louisiana to visit the Coffee Shop and get more beignets! read more

I think this was a tad bit over rated. The coffee was good. The frozen coffee was good. The grits were excellent. On to the disappointments. Huge tourist trap, no parking. My car was hit, and they ran. Look out. From what I understand this is not uncommon. The Shrimp Etouffee was marginal at best. The shrimp were bay shrimp and the rice was crunchy. The Beignets? Hollow fried dough. The one with the shrimp was , and so was the individual order of three .I have made better at home. I usually enjoy this place. Today not so much. Watered down gumbo, one piece of sausage, and two small shreds of chicken. All broth. On the plus side the broth had a strong hint of a really good flavor before having to much water added. Did not get my money's worth this trip. Now, for the 4th time in a row, the ladies bathroom soap dispenser remains broken. Someone put a soap container in there BUT YOU CANT GET THE SOAP OUT! Haven't visited here often enough. They have a great menu with "the essentials". I can recommend The mushroom Swiss burger. I've enjoyed their chef salad at another visit. It was fresh, good, and a country salad- nothing fancy- just s good salad with the usual egg, meat, lettuce, tomato etc. Great for a light lunch. Beignets are awesome! Love the country atmosphere. Every time I go here I tell myself I need to come more often. Oh yes, I've hosted a meeting of ten women here twice.
