This is a small little restaurant located off the beaten path. We've seen it a few times but finally decided to stop in not too long ago. It was early on a Saturday morning. They had a pretty continuous flow of customers the whole time we were there but it still didn't take long to get our food. We order a pancake (a la carte) and a side of bacon. I also order a one egg breakfast with bacon. I also got a cup of cafe au lait and some beignets fingers to go. The food was pretty tasty! The pancakes tasted homemade and delicious. The egg was also good. The bacon was fried too hard for our liking. A manager came around to personally ask everyone how they liked their food. We told her about the bacon and she kindly took it to redo it. Unfortunately the bacon redone was still a miss, however it was such a kind gesture of her to willingly offer to fix the problem. The cafe au lait was some of the best I've ever had! Seriously, it was actually better than Cafe du Monde! Thankfully the customer has easy access to it so we're able to easily get more for the road. Just okay. This area has been on my list a while to check out and finally made the trip yesterday. The grounds are fun and unique if not a little cluttered and confusing. Husband and I were really unsure where we were supposed to drive/park but I get the impression anything goes on this property. The coffee house was easy to find once we parked. There's was a bombardment of handwritten on scratch paper signage allover the place. Most seemed due to covid restrictions. The menu excited me with the options and offerings but many items were sharpied out. I got a frozen cafe au lait which was excellent. We had the beignets which were very different from what I'm used to in New Orleans. This were big, think hot pocket size and super dense. Very doughy. Not necessarily bad if you're a fan of the bread part of a beignet but not the light and fluffy pastry I was expecting. Have passed by the Cajun Village numerous times going to or coming from somewhere else...pretty much never really made the village the destination...Man, what a dumbass! My sweet daughter was talking about wanting some beignets and had eaten some at the Coffee House @ the Cajun Village with her aunts so since she didn't have school on 4/1/13 I told her we'd go get us some... Stopped in around 2:30 PM and had the place to ourselves...you order and pay at the counter....they have laminated menus in a wall holder right next to the register...didn't really need it cause we got 3 orders of beignets, a Cafe au Lait and a small bottled Coke... $14 for 9 beignets and 2 drinks not too shabby...They were outstanding! Took the 3d order home for the boy since we left his teenage angsty ass at the house!! This was a very busy place and like everywhere else understaffed at not fault of their own. They do it all. Take your order, clean tables, run your food. Ok I needed some coffee on the way back to Houston from New Orleans. I see this blue sign that said coffee so I followed it. It led me to this quirky village looking piece of land and I went in to get something to wake me up. I was ONLY going to get a cup of coffee and leave. My cousin ended up getting 2 filled beignets since we skipped going to the ever congested Cafe Dumonde on our trip. When he took a bite he said "damn dude take a bite of this". Ladies and gentlemen let me tell you, I've eaten the beignets from cafe Dumonde and many other places but this place sells the most delicious beignets I've ever eaten. The filling puts a power gap between them and the competition. We called my other 2 family members to try them and they were amazed at the quality of their pastries... needless to say we each left with a box full of beignets for our families in Texas. We are staying in the area, hungry but didn't want any more crawfish or po boys. Was glad to have found this place. We arrived 30 minutes before close on a Sunday and they were already out of ice tea, biscuits, grits and the grill had already been cleaned! :( the lady taking my order wasn't sure if they'd be able to make the breakfast I ordered but after talking to the cook he said they could without using the grill. However they cooked it, it was good. Lol. It's not a spot for a diet. And if you want breakfast (even though it says it's served ALL day) you better get there 3 hours before close. I was told they usually clean the grill at 4. Though you could always have the chef improvise. It still taste good. Oh and the beignets were delicious. Only downside was They brought them out before our food. Whatevs. It's a small town and I was happy to not have to eat another oyster. read more
