I have been doing business with Coffee AM for over one year and I order the light roast so called premium coffees. Many of my orders have been over roasted with beans being dark brown to black with oil roasted out of the bean, and the coffee was bitter with no trace of the flavors for which I was paying. And, yes I drink my coffee straight: no sugar, no cream. When I placed my last order for 5 pounds of light roasted coffee I put a notation on my order, spoke to customer service and left a message for the sales manager stating that I would no longer accept over roasted coffee and that I would return the product. My last order arrived and I opened one bag and it was outstanding. After consuming that bag I opened another, and it was also outstanding. Being an optimist, I emailed their customer relations dept and congratulated Coffee AM for doing such a great job. After many complaints, I felt that congratulations were in order. Well wouldn't you know it? I had experienced what is know as "luck of the draw". Should have been playing Texas Holdum. The remaining three bags were grossly over roasted. Now how can that happen to coffee that is supposedly roasted the day of shipment. I telephoned customer service and requested a prepaid mailing label so that I could return three bags of coffee. I was frostily told that I would have to pay all return costs and that the coffee would be inspected and if it was not to their specifications credit would be issued. My reply was I pay for my mistakes, but I cannot afford to pay for your mistakes. I also stated that even if I received a prepaid mailing label I would incur $10 in auto expense for the trip to UPS, etc, expense for a box and tape, and over 1 1/2 hours of my time. No sympathy there. So I called my credit card company and rejected the charge for three pounds of coffee. I am presently searching for another coffee roaster. The first tried had better coffee, but I am still searching. Last, the coffee that I order is Ethopia Yirgacheffe, and Guatemala Antiqua. Great coffee if you get premium coffee beans and the roast is correct. read more

I ordered the Ethiopia and India monsoon malabar coffee. I was excited to try coffee from a new roaster and had high hopes for a good cup of coffee. They say on their website that the coffee is fresh roasted, this coffee was not. Fresh roasted coffee "blooms" (puffs up) when a little hot water is poured over it, neither of these coffees did. I am a coffee roaster and I like to buy other companies roasts to compare to mine, I do know a little about coffee. My opinion is that the coffee I ordered was not fresh,possibly old green beans and it tasted baked (roasted wrong)The flavor was not good. Unfortunately I had to throw this coffee in the trash after trying it a couple different ways. 34$ wasted! read more

I bought Jamaican Blue Mountain (JBM) from this company and it did not taste even close to the JBM I had in Jamaica and when I'm buying it from other coffee distributors in the USA. It tasted like an average American coffee with bitter and acidic aftertaste. JBM specifically know for not having bitter and sour aftertaste, that's why it is very expensive. I don't do a lot of reviews, but I want to give credit where it is due. I have ordered from CoffeeAM a few times, but I just have to say, the customer service is top notch. Most recently, I ordered two bottles of sugar free flavored syrup. One arrived with the seal broken and leaking into the box. I called them, and without hesitation, they sent out a replacement that arrived very quickly. I recommend this company without hesitation. read more

Terrible experience from shipping to quality. First, the coffee showed up more than a week after FedEx's already slow delivery date estimate, which I know is not the company's fault, but after I emailed to ask about where my coffee was, at no point did they ever offer me a refund for my shipping. When the coffee finally arrived, I found it to be undrinkable. I purchased the decaf highlander grogg and it has an overwhelmingly chemical flavor to it, presumably because they use some kind of chemicals in their decaffeinating process, but it is impossible to find any info on how they process on their website other than for the few coffees they offer that use the Swiss water process, which apparently this coffee is not. Underneath the chemical taste is a burnt coffee flavor. I am very underwhelmed. I also left a negative review on their site that doesn't show up, so apparently they are not showing all the reviews that are placed - there are a number of bad reviews for them in other places that mirror my experience with them, but strangely none on their own site. read more

I ordered 2 bags from their website, Espresso and Kenyan, both whole bean. With shipping, the order was around $30. Considering it's roasted the same day you order it, I think the extra cost is worth it. However, while the Espresso beans were good, the Kenyan beans had issues. To get a normal strength brew required twice the amount of grounds as normal. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it seemed to be a defect. I am disappointed not to receive a reply from customer service after sending a cordial email asking about this over a week ago. After sending an email which if nothing else provides some customer feedback for their operation, no acknowledgement at all is irritating. And no, 'spam filters' do not exempt a business if they say they didn't receive a message. If this is the case, the spam filter doesn't work. So the quality of the Kenyan beans and the weak customer service brewed a 2-stars result for me. read more

We have been buying coffee from CoffeeAM for three years. We always buy the Guatemala Antigua coffee. We have used their whole beans and have also purchased the coffee already ground by them. The coffee has always arrived in a sealed vacuum bag. It has always been fresh and tasted great. It always arrives within three days of our order. We have tried a few of their free samples of flavored coffee but have not enjoyed them. But we don't usually drink flavored coffee. We keep the coffee in an air tight container to help keep the coffee as fresh as possible. read more

I made a pot and poured a cup - the rest of the pot was poured down the drain and the remaining beans will go to the dumpster. Received a 3 lb sampler as a gift. Freshness is a definite problem -- coffee is good for about 2 weeks after roasting (information gleaned from their website). The packages are not vacuum packed so will degrade immediately -- the shipment was in transit for 7 days and who knows when they were roasted. So it's a big FAIL. Find a local roaster and buy small quantities. BTW, as others have made clear. CoffeeAM does not publish negative review on their site -- I wrote one too and they did not publish. I was shocked to see such a panning of this place here on Yelp. I've been mail ordering my whole bean coffee from CoffeeAM for the past three years now -- 5 pounds at a time -- and haven't had a single issue with customer service nor coffee/roast quality. The only complaint I can come up with, is every few hundred beans, there's that straggler bean that either gets under-roasted or over-roasted. I've never experienced any of the problems others have mentioned. I've probably gone through about 50 pounds of their coffee by now. Granted, I've only ordered one single type of bean/roast from CoffeeAM in my order history, because I already knew what type of coffee I liked before discovering their service. I can wholeheartedly say that this coffee beats any coffee you can find in a grocery store, hands down. When bought in 5-pound bags, it's cheaper, too. read more

I used their web page to order from them, but having had problems in the past with it I followed up the next morning also. I ordered 5 lbs of drip just like my previous orders and their site also had a drop down window for a free trial bag. I chose one and ordered drip grind. Now I was expecting the same kind of service that I had received in the past so I thought I was done as I had paid for it. Brian was able to find my order and said he would get it right out, he wasn't sure about the trial bag but would get back to me. Guess what?? Coffee arrives, no trial bag and it's not drip grind. I call back and get someone else, I'm told I can send them a picture if it's ground wrong or ship it back at my expense. I'm done with company, an apology would have been nice, but they don't know the meaning of the word customer service. I 'd give them less than a star if it was possible. Wow!!! How they have stayed in business is beyond me. Ordered 3 types of whole single origin non-flavored beans that I had and thoroughly enjoyed from other roasters (Chromatic, Klatch, Doma, etc.) previously and hoping to save a little money by ordering the same beans from CoffeeAm. Long story short, any money you save by ordering from CoffeeAM will be lost because the quality of the beans is beyond poor. I am not sure if CoffeeAM is sourcing only the lowest grade beans from a region or just adding flavoring to regular beans. What I do know is that none of the single origin beans I got vaguely resemble the flavor and complexity that they should have displayed. All 3 pounds were so poor in taste, I tossed them out...total loss of $ but they were all that bad! As others have stated, I wrote a review and have yet to see it published. I assume CoffeeAM read and deleted it. I wish I had read these reviews prior to ordering and I hope mine will save you from a bad batch of low quality beans. My advice, spend the extra $3 and get something real from a reputable roaster. read more

I was disappointed to see the lower ratings for CoffeeAM. My wife and I have ordered from CoffeeAM for many years . . . a decade at least. We visited them before they moved to Canton. We like the dark roasted Sumatra Black Satin. We order the 5 lb. bag about once a month. CoffeeAM is in GA, we are in NC. When we place an order, whole bean, the coffee is roasted that day or the next day, cooled, vacuum sealed and shipped. FedEx Ground gets it to me in one day. I usually place my order on-line. I have contacted Customer Service or placed a phone order maybe 5 times in many years. I have had only positive experiences when calling. There has been only 1 time my order was wrong, not dark roasted Sumatra, something else. I called and they said to discard it or use it if we wanted. They shipped a replacement bag in just a couple of days. I like getting the email discount codes or free shipping offers when they are available. We are not flavored coffee drinkers and really enjoy their Sumatra Black Satin. My wife was happy to see that they now offer K-Cups also. read more

I have been a customer for years, but the 5 lb bag of Hazelnut flavored coffee I ordered was beyond horrible. It was as if liquid chemical flavoring had literally been poured into a bag of roasted beans. I had to lay the beans out on the counter every morning so the chemicals could evaporate. Somehow I thought this was normal for flavored coffee! By the time I got to the bottom third of the bag the chemicals were rancid and giving off a horrible smell--had to throw the last third of a 5 lb bag out! When I called customer service there was no apology, just told it was past the date to return the coffee but the girl would talk to her manager. Needless to say--no reply or further contact. I have switched to a much better roaster, and this company has lost a long-time customer. I am so tired of companies pushing bad product out and not taking responsibility. I've been ordering from CoffeeAM for a year now and have absolutely no complaints. The only glitch I ran into with them recently was when they incorrectly sent me whole bean, when I had ordered drip grind. I called to find out what could be done and I received my correct order the very next day, plus they let me keep the whole bean- which I though was stellar customer service. The other plus is- you get a whole pound of coffee- 16oz! Whereas if you buy in the grocery store you only get 8 or 10 oz. I think the quality is excellent and they have a nice variety of organic beans from around the world as well. Highly recommended. read more

My first order was through our company. We ordered Raspberry Cream and it was amazing. With that in mind we ordered Irish Cream and buttered Rum. They arrived unflavored but the coffee was still okish... drinkable so we didn't try to send it back. Since Raspberry Cream was so good we ordered that again. This time there was a feint smell of raspberry over powered by a chemical smell. The taste is awful and is certainly not raspberry and the chemical after taste.... I have tried contacting the company by email and on face book. They ignore my emails and delete my posts on face book. They have zero customer service after they get your money. UPDATE... They contacted me and credited my account and are going to send me a sampling of coffee with more flavor. I am going to send them samples of the coffee that was not good. I ordered a $500 coffee maker. this coffee maker was not for me(thought it might be) called to return it, was told to send back to mfg. with conf number. I did, then called coffee am and was told that the refund (a credit to my credit card) will take 2 weeks !! that's B.S. nothing I can do to speed up things(?) they have me at there mercy. such a wonderful feeling, especially when they tout CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS PARAMOUNT ! they are just full of excuses. its been a month and still no refund !! after this I think that's the last they will see of me. read more

I was looking for better prices on single origin coffee and found CoffeeAM online. I ordered 4 pounds of coffee recently for the first time from ElSalvador, Costa Rica, Haiti(Blue Mountain), and Ethiopia (Yirgacheffe). They are all over-roasted and have surprisingly little flavor. In fact they all taste about the same---bad. When I later did a Google search for best online coffee sources, they weren't listed. It turns out some coffee sources shop around for cheap old bags of substandard coffee so they can increase their profits. Shame on me for being so naive and trusting. read more

Beware! Their coffee is advertised to be "gourmet" but what I received was bogus! I ordered the gourmet flavored coffee and it was covered, if not soaking in oil in the bag! The oils covered my grinder and coffee maker in a thick and difficult to remove layer, which I am still trying to clean. I choose to ship the coffee back because on top of the hassle of removing the oils, the coffee simply tasted awful. I don't know who is writing the reviews about the taste but the coffee was really weak! I even upped the amount of beans I was use and the coffee was just a disappointment. You could see the oil in the coffee that was made, and the flavored oils overpowered any hint of coffee flavor. It didn't even taste like coffee, only the flavored oils. If you want flavor coffee but still want it to taste like coffee, then get Dunkin' Donuts coffee, or order from Sweetwater Organic Coffee from Florida. It is the best! read more

I came within 5 minutes of ordering from CoffeeAM. Their web sites look pretty awesome the way they lay out products. Then reading the coffee types and where they came from. Looked good. I am a person who likes to read what customers are stating about their experiences tasting and dealing with CoffeeAM. The ones I read were pretty good until I looked at the lower reviews which all seemed to come from 5+ years ago. Out of a dozen (I read) there was not one negative feedback on any recent purchases. It would be impossible for any company with thousands of customers to not have one less then desired comment. I have read some of comments here that have stated their complaints/reviews were removed from CoffeeAM site. This is a stop sign for me. If companies are allowed to do such things it looks very suspicious I am giving a neutral rating until I can figure out what's happening here. Trust is important. read more

Interesting that the reviews are so polarized. I have been using Coffee AM for several years. I am particular to Kenya AA which is almost impossible to find in coffee crazy Portland, OR. I buy five pounds at a time, about $10 per pound with shipping. The beans are uniformly well roasted and fresh. I cannot imagine what the negative reviews refer to. CoffeeAM is not the place to be ordering coffees like Jamaican Blue Mountain or the Kona coffees in whole bean. I ordered both of these on November 22, 2019 and received Cozy fire flavored drip grind and Irish mocha Mint drip grind on the 28th of November, the absolute opposite of what i Ordered two flavored drip grinds! So i call in right away and get no answer and leave a message. So i try the chat line and get a hold of someone who says they will take my email address and get with their team and get back to me, no one does. I call again its now Tuesday and still haven't heard from the Team! So now i find out their are 154 numbers on the coffee labels that tell them my order was someone elses who will have to be notified as well and have their coffee resent. (by the way they did not complain about getting sent Kona and Jamaican by mistake, i asked), that was me. So i get to keep the crap coffee and have been delayed now for another week or month or who knows how long it takes to deliver this coffee since i still do not have it and its now the 10th of December. I bought a kona from Blue Horse Coffee and a Jamaican Blue mountain from plantation Blue and they were delivered both after i ordered this from coffeeAM. Do yourself a favor and order from Intelligentsia coffee, Coava coffee or Counter Culture or La colombe or just about any one of the other real roasters that care about coffee and customer service! I will never drink coffee from this place, its just not worth the hassle for the real Coffee drinkers. read more

When Starbucks morphed from a coffee company into a political organization I looked for a new coffee source. I tried the whole bean Sumatran from CoffeeAm.I found it to be bitter and too astringent. The Komodo Dragon blows it away. Taste is subjective but for me I have to keep looking. read more

Several years ago I used to get Tanzanian Peaberry from a local roaster near my home. This small company quit carrying this type of coffee so I've ben searching for it ever since. I was excited to see this coffee available at CoffeeAM, so I instantly bought 5 lbs. I carefully read the description first to make sure this is what I wanted. The description stated this was a medium/light roast and it also described the shape and size of the "peaberries". This sounded exactly like what I used to get so I ordered it. Before I even opened the box, I knew there was a problem. I could smell the dark burnt odor of the coffee. A light/medium roast shouldn't have this burnt odor. After opening the box and bag, I was disappointed again when I saw the shape and size of the beans. They were larger, oval shaped beans, not at all what I think of as peaberries. The roast was not medium/light, but dark and oily. I made a few batches of coffee, but the taste was not what I was wanting. The burnt flavor was all I could sense. I contacted customer service with my concerns. They asked me first to send back a sample so the warehouse manager and roastmaster could inspect the coffee. After the inspection, they would contact me with the "next step". I just wanted to return the coffee. I responded that inspections weren't necessary...I just wanted to return the coffee. Customer service replied that this was for quality control. I realize this isn't a big chore to send in a sample, but should I really be responsible to send a sample and pay postage for the company's quality control? Also, If the inspections deemed I could return the coffee, then I would need to pay postage again for returning the coffee. Also, I would be required to pay postage if I wanted an exchange. I gave up, kept the coffee, and continued my search. I went to CoffeeAM's website and wrote a review for this coffee (Similar to what I just wrote here). The review was never published on the website, so I turned to Yelp. After searching other websites I've found that most discerning roasters have temporarily quit buying Tanzanian coffees because of quality issues with the harvesting and initial processing. read more

I have been a loyal CoffeeAM customer for years. I love all the different flavors, but often buy just regular coffee too. It costs about the same as a bag from Starbucks but is so much better and you have so many more types to choose from. I love how quickly they ship orders, too. I highly recommend CoffeeAM and it's great for gifts too. As long as the quality stays as high as it is, they will have me as a regular customer. read more

I have been ordering my coffee from this company for a year. I had a problem (received the wrong coffee) with my last order and left a detailed message on the customer service line . After four days of no response, I called them. They told me to ship it back and they would refund the mistake. Shipping was at my cost. Rating Poor customer service! Disappointed with CoffeeAM's recent coffee purchase. I've been a customer since 2014. Very happy with all the flavored decaf whole bean coffees I've purchased over the years. I try new flavors as well as old standbys. But, on my last order I tried Cherries Jubilee decaf. Fortunately I only ordered 1 pound. It was the worst tasting coffee I have ever had. So, I figured I would call the company to see about a refund. Being a good long time customer I did not think I would get any flack about asking for a refund or exchange for another flavor. Oh well, I was wrong. I was told to return the unused beans, okay. I was told that only if the product was found defective would my return shipping cost (~$7.20) be refunded to me. Well, there probable was not anything really defective in their bean or process, the problem was I hated the flavor of that coffee. I was assuming, wrongly, that CoffeeAM as a courtesy to a long term customer, that I would have been given some leeway, or taken my word and offer to refund or send a replacement of another flavor. Simple, good business practice. My RMA # is 1391887R. I am going to have to rethink ordering from CoffeeAM in the future. read more
