I've done my fair share of escape rooms and this place falls somewhere in the mid-low range overall. For starters, first impression wasn't great. The availability of free parking on premises was very unclear and this would've been helpful to know considering how tricky parking can be around Seattle Center. Additionally, the entrance didn't look open and we weren't sure whether we were supposed to enter or wait for someone to greet us, as all other rooms have done for us in the past. We eventually decided to try the door and found the staff waiting for us upstairs. I then had to ask about parking and go back downstairs to move my car. The plot was kinda weak. We were there for The Experiment and the staff started storytelling shortly after we put our belongings away in the lobby. I didn't love that there was radio music playing in the background as this was happening, and hoped the experience would be more immersive once we got into the actual room. Unfortunately, it did not. Without giving away any spoilers, the space just looked like it was randomly thrown together with some semi-relevant props. We also never really got closure on the main mystery that was introduced prior to us entering the room, because apparently that part of the story didn't matter once we unlocked the door and got out. The puzzles also left much to be desired. While there were some clever designs, most weren't very collaborative in nature which left several members of our group wandering around waiting for someone else to get done with something before moving on. Too linear. There was also some confusion around a clue that had leftover scribbles from previous use, as well as a puzzle that kind of contradicted the ultimate escape room rule of "don't break anything or take anything apart to solve a problem." In the end, my team and I did manage to escape with some time to spare. It was a pretty hard room, I just wasn't excited by it. We were ushered back into the small lobby and took a group pic with some generic "We made it!" signs while the next party of escapists sat in awkwardly close proximity waiting for their turn. Hopefully they had a better experience than me, because idk if I'll be coming back again with the abundance of other escape room options around town. read more

This was our first time doing an escape room. We were able to make same-day reservations, which was helpful. We were greeted by Chuck, who carefully explained how everything worked. Chuck was funny and kind and patient for us first-timers. We did the Experiment Room. So. Much. Fun. The staff will help you, if you want it, and they will also help of you are spending too much time on the wrong thing. I would definitely recommend this place. Take the time to check it out. We tried the Experiment room and although we made it out with a few hints (I believe 3?) it is definitely one of the more challenging escape rooms I've been through. Cool that it's based off some real science/has some real world context and really enjoyed the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Can't say specifics of course, the the puzzles were fun and low key tough to solve. We had to use some hints since we were on the wrong path, but we basically solved it on time ;)x. Did the Dark Room with 8 people and had a great time. The online booking process was easy and straightforward. The entrance is in an alleyway close to the Space Needle, and there were signs to help us get to the actual house where they are located. The game master started off with going over the basic rules and guidelines. Then, we had some time to play around with some of the puzzles they had in the waiting room before our scheduled time. The Dark Room is dark (surprise!), so we were given 4 flashlights to share among the 8 of us. I personally thought the room was spooky but not enough that I felt extremely terrified or anything. I liked how most of the puzzles were somewhat challenging and required a lot of attention to detail. However, there were some "clues" that were actually misleading and not relevant at all. After we escaped, the game master explained what the story behind the room was and then took photos of us with some funny signs in front of the backdrop they had. He had a great attitude and was fun to interact with. Turns out we were only minutes away from beating the record! read more

Our relatively experienced group of 3 did The Experiment at ROOM 5280 and had a great time! Chuck, our host for this session, did an excellent job. We struggled here and there, but I really appreciated Chuck's ability to recognize when to give a full on hint and when to just nudge us slightly (a critical sense in making puzzles as satisfying to solve as possible). The puzzles in the room were awesome; there were definitely some that were incredibly unique. I highly recommend folks try out this room, and we're excited to try the other rooms (probably with a bigger group)! read more

This place definitely doesn't deserve to be the top-rated escape room in Seattle. We've done most of the escape rooms in town, and this place doesn't come close to Locurio, Mission Escapes, Quest Factor, the Escape Artist, or Puzzle Break. Here were some positives: nice game master, very attentive with clues and advice. We did The Experiment and really liked the theme. A few of the puzzles were interesting and compelling. Not so great: had to fiddle with some puzzles to make sure they worked the way they were supposed to, logic on some puzzles wasn't intuitive, the room design was basic, and there wasn't any fun or cool tech. All in all, this could have been an okay escape room in another town. But for Seattle, this low-tech, thematically-uninspired room shouldn't be the top-rated place. read more

Fantastic escape room! Went in with low expectations and was blown away by the fun and interactive room we chose. The location was a little hard to find as it was a little further down the alley but otherwise no issues. Our guIde, Peter, helped us by sliding clues under the door and if we were really in a jam, over the microphone in the room. It's not often that my friends and I do an escape room that is just one room so we were really able to flex our brain muscles. If I'm ever back in Seattle I will absolutely go back and I plan to recommend it to others when they're in town. read more

YES 5280 IS OPEN DURING COVID!!! We had so much fun doing the Dark Room! Even though it was just the two of us, we had fun and were very close to figuring it out. The owner was kind enough to let us finish the last step (we were one step away from finishing when the timer went off) and we finally escaped! I've never done a room in the dark before. They let UV rays sanitize the escape rooms after each party comes through, which is awesome. My group and I LOVED our first experience doing an escape room. The theme was cohesive and well done. We did the dark room which is for beginners or intermediate. According to the ROOM 5280 website, teams are successful 28% of the time. It was challenging and required out of the box thinking. It was a little creepy, but not so much to cause nightmares or anything. Summary Group: 31 y/o male - current masters student; 27 y/o male - buyer; 34 y/o female - mechanical engineer. We felt three was the perfect group size, but I am sure you can do fine with more. Escape Room Experience: First-timers (2 of us had technically done 1 before but were excluded from the decision-making process) Room: Dark Room - Beginner/Intermediate Escaped?: Yes, with extra time given. We did the Heist. TLDR: Staff is great and friendly. Room puzzles were okay. The room itself is lacking and disappointing. The room is super linear. The only time there is any chance of simultaneous puzzles is the very beginning, and there's only a few. Outside of that, its all puzzles that lead to another. Benefit of this is everyone is part of the room from start to finish. Cons are likely people will be standing around not being able to contribute. The hints they give are well worded and thought out. I just wish the hints were actually incorporated into the room as clues instead of us having to ask. There definitely needs to be more clues instead of "this lock has x numbers, which matches this other thing that has x numbers". Since that was the only link between locks and their "clues", the theme wasn't very well incorporated into the room. Other rooms do their story better and is much more immersive. read more

My partner and I tried out the Dark Room as a group of two. Antonio, our friendly host with the sunflower shirt, was very relaxed and provided clues when needed. From this we were able to finish with 5 minutes to spare. There were some puzzles that need to be slightly tweaked (without clues they would be practically impossible or random). One of these was particularly knob 1 not having an associated instruction. Overall however we really enjoyed the experience and would come back for The Experiment with a group of friends. read more

We did the heist room and our group was a total of 9 people. Room 5280 was a really fun team bonding event for my team. We decided to do The Heist which is their hardest room. After hearing that this room had a 16% success rate, I was nervous we wouldn't be able to escape. The actual experience was so much fun and it truly was a challenging room but my team was able to escape with 10 minutes to spare! We have traveled a lot for work and have done escape rooms in several states, 35 in total including California and Massachusetts where rooms were elaborate. This was our 3rd room in Seattle and it was the best we've done there!! By the way we did, The Dark Room. I know this is a new business but when it comes to escape rooms that means nothing. The puzzles were challenging but really fun. This room was meant for up to 8 people but my boyfriend and I did it alone. If you are a beginner I would recommend inviting a few friends. We tried the Experiment room last minute and the room will not disappoint you. We tried with just 2 people and although it was challenging, with some hints we were able to escape with 3 mins to spare. They have few cool puzzles and I can say that this room is now one of our favorites. They have free parking behind the building and in front of the entrance which was a big plus too. Clean and new and we can tell that the owners put a lot of effort in the rooms. Well made. We can't wait to try other rooms. read more
