I have played both The Dark Room and The Heist and overall had a great experience with this location thanks to the experience provided by the owner. The Dark Room: Played this as a team of 2, escaped with about 11 minutes remaining. This room is quite unique in that the story is meant to be built from scratch as you progress in the game. Unfortunately my friend and I found this experience to be a little outside of what we enjoyed, but the excellent commitment to providing a great customer experience encouraged us to try a second room. The Heist: played this as a team of 3 (minimum is 4, definitely recommend coming with at least the minimum) and escaped with about 4 minutes left. This is my ~92 escape room to date and definitely ranks in my top 10 escape rooms. The puzzles were unique for the most part and we were thoroughly engaged the entire time. Our favorite thing about this experience that put it well above many other games is that there was little bottlenecking. If we didnt know what to do with something, there was always another puzzle or two to work on before we had to come back to something. It was engaging, unique, and overall a blast. Overall, great new place in Seattle. I highly recommend checking out The Heist, and we cannot wait to try out The Experiment. read more

We have become escape room addicts. We booked "The Experiment" last minute after we had finished another room in SoDo. The production value was not quite as high as the other business in SoDo but the overall experience was amazing. We found out after the game that Room 5280 has only been open 3 weeks, but they have been the best game host out of the 5 different businesses we have been to. "The Experiment" can be a tough room as it seems very sparse when you 1st enter but they do have one of the coolest puzzles we've ever seen (this was our 8th room we've done). We can't wait to go back and try the other two rooms they currently have. read more

Now that I've done 15 different escape rooms at different outfits, I feel like I can write a fairly thorough review that would be helpful for readers deciding where to venture on their first or 50th room. When researching more rooms to tackle, I found that the reviews didn't always tell me the information I needed the most to decide where next to go (without giving up spoilers of course). In particular, I wanted to know how many players the reviewer actually had for which room. It was also good to read about the players' experience level, quality of the technology and how cohesive/immersive the theme was, and whether the puzzles were complex and diverse (for example, I had done an escape room that was almost 90% manual combo locks, which was disappointing). So, for my own reviews, I will use a consistent format providing the level of detail that I would hope for, with the goal that these will be helpful to escape room enthusiasts like myself. And please drop me a PM if you have any room suggestions for me - I'm all ears! This was our 15th room. We did this solo (meaning, it was just the two of us). ROOM: The Dark Room # OF PARTICIPANTS AND LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: Just the 2 of us. It was our 15th room. We originally booked The Experiment, but there was a party of 3 (a dad and two kids) that also booked at the same time, so the host gave us the option to do the Dark Room instead, since no one else had it reserved during our time slot. You know from reading this review what we decided to do. DIVERSITY OF PUZZLES: We thought that having done 14 rooms previously, we may have seen all the diversity of puzzles that we could see. Not true! Room 5280 offered some unique challenges that we hadn't come across before. It was rewarding to be faced with different types of activities and puzzles. There wasn't anything super high tech, but the production quality/technology of the puzzles was pretty good. I was pleased that they didn't use only manual padlocks/combo locks to keep it feeling high tech. TRACKING TIME: There was no clock this room (which I generally don't like). If we wanted a time check, we would ask the host through looking at the camera in the upper corner of the room and asking for the time (or a hint). IMMERSION/THEME: As advertised, this room is dark. The decor was fairly basic. They definitely made it feel creepy though. Prior to starting, the host gave us a quick few minute blurb on the story/theme right outside the door (basically, you just woke up in a dark room). HOST PARTICIPATION: The host watches from outside of the room. As noted above, you'd yell up at the camera to ask for a hint, and the host would slip in a "note" under the door with your hint. They were pretty quick at getting to you, and it was evident that they were watching you as they knew how much progress you were making in order to provide you with a pertinent hint. SUCCESS: We escaped with 5 minutes left! We heard The Experiment was an intense room, so we'd like to come back and try that one as well. And possibly the others. read more

I was not looking forward to this team event, but I was certainly surprised how much fun we all had and yes, we ESCAPED!!! Our 10-person team worked well together and luckily we had two who had done escape rooms before. The room was craftily and creatively laid out and it really honed your attention to detail and ability to work together! I had a ball and I am now going in search of escape rooms in my hometown (Pittsburgh). I HIGHLY recommend you get some friends together and try to escape! You won't be disappointed. read more

I'm an escape room enthusiast & knew it was about time for me to check out one in Seattle since I just moved here. I arranged a team-building event here and we decided on "The Experiment" given the size of our team (5 people). I had to drop a star mainly due to the following reasons: - Decor of the room was not immersive enough in-line with the theme. Because I've been to so many, I've seen rooms that have actually make you feel like you're a part of the story line. Our room just felt like we were in an apartment bedroom but had pieces of paper taped to the walls. It didn't feel like we were in a science lab at all. - Most puzzles did not feel very elaborate/in-line with the theme nor did it involve higher technology. I've been to rooms where a certain placement of something unlocked a box or another room as an example, so it was hard for me not to have high expectations. That is to not say it wasn't fun because some puzzles were challenging esp one in particular that I will not share to ensure that I'm not ruining someone's game. I also really appreciated the manager for walking us through some history of the room & puzzles. It was a nice touch and I was impressed by that. Maybe my expectations are too high and the escape room craze just hasn't hit Seattle quite yet. read more

This was a fun experience. As a pair (2 people eep) we did The Experiment. I thought there were several clever puzzles and we had fun going through everything. We got a little extra time and managed to make it haha... Definitely enjoyment to be had. And achievable with two people, but still challenging for sure! The flow between puzzles was pretty good. Quite some thought put into things different especially since tgere werent a lot of crazy tech contraptions. The explanation and science lesson after the game helped to elevate the room a lot, but the presentation in the room itself was a lackluster. Would love if the decor reflected your subject better! Besides a few setpieces it really felt like an empty room with lockers and paper taped on the walls. It feels like those escape room games on newgrounds lolol, but maybe im being picky bc all the eacape games ive been to have had really bang up jobs on immersion. The area itself is also a little offputting. The entrance is inconspicious and in a back alleyway. We came here on bus/foot, but it could be difficult for anyone who drives. Not a problem inside. The short answer: Did "The Experiment" with just two of us. It will definitely be a challenge for people new to escape rooms. For more experienced escape room people, if it wasn't for the experiment itself, I probably wouldn't recommend it. The experiment was very cool to see though. The longer answer: The room had potential and was enjoyable. The main complaint I had though was that we received very regular hints from the moderator without asking... so on the one hand, there was so much to do in the room that we probably couldn't have completed it if we had gotten stuck so the hints kept us moving, but on the other hand, I didn't leave feeling like I'd really accomplished an escape. This was the one time where an hour really felt like no time at all - I had done two escape rooms before this, but in those ones, it had felt much longer than an hour (and usually (almost) finishing on the dot) - this one I left feeling like I just popped in and out. As I remember it, the puzzles are mostly sequential (which I kind of prefer), so while there are a ton of tasks to complete, there aren't a ton to do at once. This felt like a reasonable room to do with just 2-3 people, I think with more than 4 it would be boring for some. The experiment itself was very cool and definitely made my day. I think like others maybe commented, they could've incorporated more of the decor/science theme into the puzzles leading up to the experiment to make for a better room. I would be interested in coming back to try the Dark Room one day. We parked just north of Mercer St, where there is 2 hr free street parking if you are willing to take a bit of a walk to get to the place. Seattle Center area has a ton of paid parking, so finding a spot in a lot or on the street is usually pretty easy unless there is a major event going on. There were signs on the sidewalk, so we didn't find it too difficult to find the location. read more

I brought my 14yo son and we were put together with 3 other young guys. If it weren't for their input, we may still be working out the clues of the DarkRoom. We had a good time and had some good challenge working out all the clues and unlocking all the locks. It was exciting when the lights went out and we had to follow the walls to get into the room. We did two rooms at Room 5280. It's a newly opened place but they were really good rooms. We played The Experiment and there were some really unique puzzles that set off the theme very well. The room was very challenging. We also played The Dark Room. It has a great theme and was a god challenge. Overall Room 5280 was a great activity with high quality rooms and puzzles. the fact that this place has 5 stars showing up on Yelp is pretty sketch imo lol. like everyone is giving a glowing review but im not really sure why, because anybody who has done more than 2 escape rooms can clearly see that Room 5280 is not a 5-star establishment. my experience here was not terrible, but I just dont think this place is as good as its competition in the Seattle area and i will give my honest review I have done the Dark Room and the Experiment. I liked the Dark Room more, because it had multiple rooms, where the Experiment was only 1 room, zzz so the thing is, Room 5280's rooms and props are pretty bland. I agree with the other reviewer who said it just look like semi relevant props thrown together in a room. The DArk room doesn't even need major props cuz its so dark in there lol. The puzzles were just okay, nothing very inventive in this room, kind of basic like seek & find, counting, etc. there was one aspect of the room where a clue just looked like random graffiti someone scratched into the wall on their own, didnt realize it was actually a part of a clue. Also the ending to the room was pretty lackluster LOL, if you escape in time, you'll see why... Room 5280 kind of goes against what a lot of other escape rooms drill into your brain which is rules like don't plug things into the wall, don't break/take things apart, etc. so as an avid escape room player, I found this to be kind of difficult to get used to. The Experiment room had a few cool puzzle/techniques that were kind of interesting, but the room itself was so bland. For example, there is one whole wall decoration that shows all this cool technology/wires/etc. but has nothing to do with the actual room itself lol, disappointing because I thought maybe that would become relevant at some point, or there'd be a secret room behind there or something. sad I do like that the game masters watch you from a camera, and can either speak to you from intercom, or if you need a clue, sometimes they'll slip a paper underneath the door with a clue on it, so I liked that. The location is kind of hard to find, if you look it up on google map and go there, you'll realize the door entrance is actually around to the other side down some alleyway. they have nice clean bathrooms here and free water to drink I would only come back if they have a coupon But the game master was very good, very friendly guy read more

The rooms here are amazing! Our favorite was the Dark Room and the experience with the staff was incredible! We are going back tonight to do the last of the 3 rooms and are super excited! Our group has done over 10 escape rooms and the rooms here are definately our favorites! You could tell the staff was very attentive and was there for support when needed. There was never a time where we felt the staff was not watching or too busy to answer our questions when we got stuck. A+ Experience! read more

This was me and my groups first ever escape room experience and we were not disappointed! We chose the Dark Room as it was listed as the easiest of the 3 and the level difficulty was perfect for us beginners; we finished with hardly any time to spare. And even if we hadn't have completed the room, the experience and atmosphere would still have been so worth it. My girlfriend and I have done 35 escape rooms across the country and this is definitely a huge winner in our book. We did the dark room with just the two of us and had a blast! The puzzles were the perfect balance of challenging but fair. The room was spooky and well decorated. There isn't a single thing about this room that wasn't just pure awesomeness! We did two other escape rooms in Seattle that have been open longer and this one was far superior. Did this Experiment escape room with a group of four 13-year-olds for my son's birthday. What a blast! The puzzles were challenging in a really fun way and the hints provided timely and helpful. All of the kids at the party were engaged and were able to contribute to solving the puzzles. We were almost out when the 60 min was up, so the host gave us 2 more min and we made it out! I've been to a few escape rooms and this one was definitely one of the better ones. Only 10 days old and they seem like they've been doing this for years. We did the dark room and puzzles weren't necessarily difficult nor were they too easy. We finished with less than a minute left! So it was the perfect amount of difficulty. Fantastic experience! We will be back for more! My husband, 13-year-old son, and I were visiting Seattle and had a truly great time doing our first escape room together at Room 5280. We did The Dark Room scenario and the hour flew by. The owner was so cool and gave us clues at the right times, which was nice for us beginners. The Dark Room was mysterious and kept us very intrigued and entertained for the hour. We got pretty far! Now we have the bug and want to try more escape rooms. We were made to feeeel like accomplished sleuths! We recently decided as a family, to celebrate the dads in the family to a fun, new activity for Father's Day. We were not disappointed! We participated in the "Heist" where the simple room was thoughtfully designed to intensively give our group a good mental jiu jitsu workout. The meticulous details of this live puzzle were impressive. Although we were not able to finish, we were consoled to learn that this is the hardest of their current puzzles, with only 30% of participants able to solve it. I would rather it be fabulously challenging than to be so easy that we might have a lot of time left. The hosts were amazingly accommodating and clearly pretty genius themselves. Room 5280 was a terrific post Christmas outing for our family of five plus a baby. We needed the hints that lydia helpfully slipped under the door but we did solve all the puzzles! Get there early and work on solving the lock box the waiting room. It gives you very helpful practice for the heist escape room. The place is tucked off denny in an alley right before fifth ave and it was great to have parking available (for free!) 5280 folks were very responsive and we were very happy with our experience. Book at least 6 people (up to 10 is allowed and would work) so you can have the room to yourselves. 4 is the minimum but I think that's too few. read more
