Now that I've visited a handful of times, I feel like I can give an honest review. These are the best lox bagels in the city! My favorite combo is the pastrami lox on everything with chive schmear. I've also tried the Zaydie. It was delish, but had just a little too much egg on it for my tastes. If you like horseradish, try their red horseradish schmear. The horseradish is subtle at first, but kicks in after a few bites. It's located in the new Mashup Food Hall. Staff is super friendly and service is always quick. I just wish they were open later so I could get them for dinner :) read more

Updating my review now that Cold Smoke Bagels has moved to Mashup Food Hall. And happy to report -- the great quality bagel sandwiches transferred with them to their new home! On my recent trip to Mashup, I got the Classic Lox & Bagel, on an everything bagel with a plain schmear. The lox was great quality, and this more than hit the spot. This sandwich is comfort lunch food for me. I also love that Cold Smoke has Dr. Brown's sodas. I got the cream soda, though maybe someday soon I'll be brave enough to try the celery soda. The owner was also there when we were and chatted us up a bit. It's clear he has pride in his business. I'll definitely be back! read more

We visited the relatively new venue of the Mashup Food Hall located on Jefferson Street and happy to see Cold Smoke Bagels. This was a Sunday lunch visit and my friend had the bagel with a schmear, saying it was a generous schmear enough for 3 bagels and that the bagels are on par with those in NY. I opted to change it up and try an egg cheese biscuit and added on pickled red onions, which was uniquely heavenly -- tender biscuit, fluffy eggs, gooey cheesy goodness, and crunchy sweet onions. The food hall has nearby street parking as well as a QR paid parking lot across the street. Building is easily accessible and this food stall is located midway into the venue. This place was great. They just opened in the new food hall in Nulu called mashup. The service was really nice and helpful making recommendations and answering questions. And most importantly, the food was delicious. Zaydie Egg Sandwich - fantastic. The egg was cooked perfectly. It was moist and fluffy and flavorful. The bread was delicious and the lox was great (not fishy at all). I especially loved the pickled red onion. Pastrami Lox Bagel - this was so good. Great amount of schmear, the lox was delicious, and the pickled onion again so good. This was a more refreshing taste where the egg sandwich was a warmer taste. Being from NYC, the bagel and lox capital of America, this was a LEGIT bagel spot. There are a variety of different lox and bagel combos, and they've got the preparation down to a science. I opted for the Classic with red horseradish cream cheese, and it was a very hearty portion. The bagel was excellent -- a little crispy on the outside and soft on the inside -- and the lox was fresh and flavorful. The cream cheese icing on the cake was def the addition of red horseradish, which gave the sandwich an extra dose of spicy goodness. It's in Logan Street Market, which is an awesome location, and there's plenty of bench seating right in front of the bagel counter. The food came out fast and friendly, and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other combos. read more

Just visited the new Cold Smoke location in Mashup Food Hall! Still just as delicious. The smears are soooo tasty and I love that they have such a great selection. I personally prefer the scallion, but the have regular, veggie and more! My friend (what's up, Emily!) got the lox bagel and really enjoyed it. Their fish is always so fresh. I enjoyed their veggie bagel with fresh, pickled veggies, and add a soft scrambled egg. Wow, that egg was gorgeous! It was a delightful meal in a an exciting new space (Mashup was buzzing!) that was perfect for a well-balanced lunch. If you want carbs, some protein, and veggies so you can be fueled, but not exhausted after eating--this is your spot! read more

The worker at the register was super helpful when I couldn't decide on a bagel, and ended up choosing one of his favorites (which I've forgotten the name of!) It was pastrami lox, eggs, mustard, and pickled red onions -- and I chose a sesame bagel. It was so delicious! Really flavorful and filling, and as an egg appreciator I was a fan of the thickness of the eggs. One of the worst habits of displaced New Yorkers is complaining how you can't get good (read: what they're used to) bagels/Chinese food/pizza/etc. outside of New York. My advice to my kindred is, "I agree but also I like it here so leave." Cold Smoke Bagels are what a bagel should taste, feel, and smell like. If you ask the snobbiest New Yorker in Kentucky (my sister) they will tell you that indeed these bagels are what bagels should be. This place warmed my little Sephardic heart, even if bagels aren't Sephardi. I love the pastrami lox and recommend it, highly. This is the only context in which I will eat salmon. I have gotten bagels to go, I have eaten bagels in my car and made a huge mess, I have eaten them in the market and made a moderate mess. The salmon tastes perfectly delicious, the bagel was filled with a great amount of scallion schematic, slices of tomatoes, green onions all on a crispy doughy everything bagel! Now my only thing is that It was a bit on the saltier side and that's because I didn't realize that the salt of the bagel, plus the taste of the schmear and the lox would all together but to salty. Wow wow wow. This place is a small stall and located in the Logan Street Market. Their menu is fairly straightforward and the prices are reasonable. I got the Zaydie style sandwich on a Challah Roll, it was incredible! The sandwich had salmon on it that was marinated with pastrami spices providing one of the most unique flavors I've ever had. It really helped from the salmon being too overpowering which I loved. My buddy got a bagel with butter and it was three dollars so not too bad at all. Also I tried the celery soda and although it was very sugary it was very unique and delicious. The staff/potential owner was super helpful and cool to talk to. I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Louisville! read more

I browse through all the booths, and I ended up swinging back to Cold Smoke Bagels. I've passed by this location multiple times but I've never actually bought anything. The gentleman behind the counter had been very kind so I figured let's go try this place out. I got the vegetarian sandwich bagel. I didn't realize they came with the options of what kind of bagel I wanted. I went with sesame of course. And sesame bagels are my favorite. And then I also got the option of what kind of cream cheese I want it well there's a jalapeño option so how could you pick anything else. The sandwich came out pretty quickly it was delicious. It was filled with fresh basil cheese and some pickled veggies and the jalapeño cream cheese was incredible. I'm so glad I got to try cold smoke bagels. This was an excellent option for a late lunch. I am so excited for Cold Smoke Bagels! We got our first taste of their product at a pop-up, since their space isn't officially open yet. And everything was awesome! Currently, they don't have bagel making equipment, so they're using Nancy's Bagels, which are of course delicious, and they're adding their own schmears, lox, capers, pickled vegetables, etc. The toppings are really where it's at, y'all! You've got to try these homemade schmears and pickled goodies! I'm super excited for the opening of Logan Street Market, and I'm even more excited that Cold Smoke Bagels will be located there. This is a must try if you're at the Logan Street Market. I had the sampler box so I could try everything since it all looked so good. My favorites were the Herring (probably some of the best I've ever had) and the Pastrami Smoked Salmon as well. The sampler box had a bagel cut up to resemble chips, a couple different types of salmon, red onions, capers and pickles. It was all so good and I'd definitely go back to try it.
