We always love cold stone ice cream. However, we did not have a good experience tonight. It seemed as though the workers were unenthused and didn't care to help. They were going pretty fast until our half of the line came. While one girl just stood watching in the back room doorway while the other workers struggled. When I took out a container of ice cream from the fridge and still waited on line to pay when I got to the register they proceeded to ignore me and take other people and when I tried to pay for it they looked at me like I had five heads. To top it off the fridge sticker says the containers of ice cream was 8.99 and we paid 14.99. not too happy. read more

Absolutely wonderful customer service!! Went around 8 pm and was treated by a tall kind girl with a bun and another kind girl who wore a hijab. These workers were very fast and efficient and complimented each other very well. They were very patient with me and even recommend various ice creams! They also made me laugh and created small talk while I was waiting for my icecream to be served!! Ok so I was walking around uptown after getting my mom a bday present with blisters on my feet, a sore throat, and a heavy backpack and was really craving some good ole Cold Stone ice cream. My sister and I generously spent $20 of our $28 on our mom's gift and knew we wouldn't have enough left for the both of us to get ice cream. We assumed we could get a large and have the person working there split up that amount into 2 cups. Oh how innocent we were. We know better now. As we arrived, wide eyed and full of hope, we asked the lady at the counter if we, perhaps, might be able to receive the amount of 1 serving in a mere cup more. The smile that was once planted on her face immediately vanished into thin air. In its place stood an expression so grim it could not have been worthy of even the foulest creatures of the earth. Through gritted teeth she barked: "I would have to charge you for 2 ice creams if I did that". With all of the goodness I could muster I repeated my sister and my's intentions with the voice of an angel and a smile so large it could be blind someone a mile away. Once again, this woman's utterly cold and foul demeanor shut me down. This encounter made me lose faith in the entire human race and more importantly my faith in this satanic business. read more

Terrible customer service! Purchased a cake online and was given the wrong cake on Valentine's Day. Owner refused to give me a refund unless I drove back with a melted ice cream cake or a picture of the "smashed cake in a dumpster" to prove it was not eaten. Incapable of creating the right cake and unwilling to admit his error. I drove 30 minutes to pick up a signature red velvet cake for a group of children that were anticipating that cake. I love coldstone cremery but hate this location. I ordered a cake flavor milkshake. It was disgusting. I asked to change it. The girl gave me such a hard time. I asked to speak to the Manager who i could see in the back and he wouldnt even come out. The girl eventually changed my shake with a disgusting attitude and basically threw the shake at me. At 1:30 PM on Friday 3/12/21, I made the mistake of ordering online from the Upper Montclair Coldstone Creamery for a 2:30 PM pick-up. Normally when one orders online for a pickup ANYWHERE, the pick up is quick - walk in, give your name, merchandise is given. This time I had to wait 25 minutes only to be told their "system" was down. I had shown my receipt so I didn't understand why I was not receiving my order. The owner did not bother to come out and apologize either. I asked for a refund since I had already paid and I was told by the 16-year-old blonde girl behind the counter that I would receive my refund in half an hour. No refund was issued. I called a half-hour later and spoke to the owner. Again, I was told a refund would be issued but no refund was issued. I reported this incident to Coldstone Creamery headquarters because it did not seem as if I would be receiving a refund. A lady named Michelle from Montclair Coldstone called my house at 6 PM the same night and asked me if I had received my order. I told her of course not. That's why I asked for a refund. She apologized and said she would issue the refund. WHAT??? Please do NOT order from this Coldstone Creamery location. The owner obviously does not care about his customers, SERVICE IS TERRIBLE and there is no social distancing possible in such a small space. read more

I've been meaning to write this review since last year! I bought a birthday cake last year and I wanted "happy birthday" written in Farsi, Dave went out of his way to pull it up on Google to make sure it was spelled the correct way since I wasn't a hundred percent sure. I went back last night and I was beyond elated to see Dave again! He stepped it up a notch and this time wrote my greeting on the cake in actual Farsi characters! He was sweet, kind, thoughtful, artistic and efficient. He exceeded my expectations, not only once but twice! I still have a little pep in my step from my encounter last night. Love that you can customize everything. My favorites are the Berry Berry Good, the Cheesecake Fantasy, and my own combo, which is sweet cream ice cream, pecans, graham cracker crust, and caramel. I'm also a fan of the shakes, frappes, and birthday cakes, which are a little pricy but delicious. This location gets a little packed in the summers, but is otherwise great :) read more

This was quite possibly the most disappointing ice cream experience ever. First it was very busy wich is expected in nice weather. However it was extremely warm inside for an ice cream store. When I ordered the girl didn't know what the ingredients were in my request. I had to tell her. Then I received a birthday email coupon. I had it pulled up on my phone to show at check out. They WOULDNT take it bc it wasn't printed out! I feel that is terrible customer service as I own a business and send our clients coupons via email. I can not imagine not taking their coupon bc it wasn't printed out. And it was my birthday! Why email coupons if you have to print them out to use. Just mail them then! Let me preface this by saying that we've been going to this location for over 10 years now. Everything OTHER than the manager/owner? is fine (if you've dealt with him, you know who I'm talking about), but every time we've had to deal with the owner, we've left upset. Through our many years there, we've always pushed that aside because it's close and convenient. But today was the last straw. I never write reviews, but today he deserves one and I hope this makes a difference. I honestly hope he loses business. He doesn't deserve to own a business that deals with families and children if that's how he treats people. I shouldn't have to leave an ice cream shop of all places, in tears. My children (twins) are having a birthday soon. So, to grant their bday request, we went in tonight to make a custom order cake. We've ordered many cakes from them in the past, and it's fun because they get to choose each layer to their liking. Well, we were dealing with a new hire tonight. And as such, she had to keep going to the back to ask her manager (the owner) basic questions. Things like whether or not we can do more than one flavor of ice cream or have their names written in two different colors. Yes and yes, of course. Waiting isn't my favorite thing, but sure. For my kids? I'd wait all day. As I'm about to pay for this $48 cake, it occurs to me to ask about their return policy. I explain to the girl who's been helping us, that one time a few years back, we ordered a cake with such a strong taste of freezer burn as to be inedible. It was for my own bday, and we had to throw the whole thing out. As such, I asked if such a thing were to ever happen again, and we still have the receipt, can we return the cake and get a refund? I figured the answer would be a no, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask (was really wrong about that...). The new hire had to go into the back room again to ask her manager. And (lucky me...) the manager comes out. The second I see him, I know there's going to be trouble. He doesn't ever seem to know how to talk to people without getting them angry and upset. Again, I remind you that I've seen it many times over the past 10+ years. I just didn't expect the following.... He already seems to be in a bad mood (probably because his new hire kept asking him questions), and tells me huffily that no, they don't do refunds. The cakes are a lot of work to make, and since I've had problems twice, he won't accept my order.....Wait, what!? I try and clarify. I explain that I've been coming for years and the freezer burn issue only happened once (which, by the way, we never even tried to return). I explained that this is for my twins' 5th bday. He tells me he doesn't want me to get upset, but if I'm not happy with the cake, he won't be happy. So no, he won't take my order.... I'm livid, upset, and dumbfounded. Who runs their business like that!? Did this really just happen? I got refused service because I asked one, little question!? Who does that!? And as a side note, some of the issues that I've heard him fight with people about in the past 10 years: 1. Unlike other cold stones, if you have a BOGO coupon, he won't accept anything on your phone...it has to be printed out (ever heard of the 21st century, sir?) 2. Unlike other cold stones, if you have a BOGO coupon, he insists on only giving you the base price free. Any mix ins (in the one you're paying AND your free one) is extra, despite what it says on the coupon itself. 3. Mistakes on cake orders are not fixed, no refunds are given even when the mistake is on their end (one mom came in years ago upset because they'd made a mistake on the writing on the cake) So in conclusion....sure, this Coldstone is much like the rest. The desserts are tasty, the place is pretty clean, and the workers are pretty nice. BUT this particular location has an owner that seems to despise anyone who doesn't fall in line with his rules. He acts as though it's his way or the highway. He's lost many customers over the years, but because of his frozen treats and great location, he stays in business. It's a shame. Honestly. He's an angry little man on a power trip....at an ice cream shop...sadness all around. And to try and mess with my kids' bday? That's crossing the line! Do yourself a favor, spare yourself the upset, and make a stand to only support business that treat their customers as what they are: the reason they get to open their doors every day! I've worked in retail. I know the importance of customer service. And this owner? He takes his customers for granted. I hope he learns his lesson someday. Thanks for trying to ruin my kids bday, sir. But guess what? You're not the only Coldstone around. There's one in West Orange too that smaller but better. It's all about the people. It always come down to people.
