Overall opinion = BLEhhh..... I don't sugar coat. I only give honest reviews of all my dining experiences. First Impression, This is not an upscale restaurant, it's more like a middle aged, bar fly, neighborhood hangout . Menus were sticky, stained, dirty GROSS. Something like that turns my stomach and makes me look further . How hard is it to wipe them down or reprint a lousy piece of paper aka menu, and buy a new plastic insert. Silverware: not quite clean, water had floaters. Already felt uneasy about eating here. But , I'm visiting with family, it wasn't my choice. Decided to go with the prefixed menu. Choice of appetizer, main course, desert and it comes with a bottle of wine. OK, that's nice . I ordered the baked clams. Yuck! Undercooked , The breading on top was mush, not golden or crisp (apparently I'm not the only one with this complaint) and one of them tasted quite funky As it went down . I held back the tears and immediately ate some bread . The Fish and chips entree was just ok . Different than the usual fresh chunks of fried flakey Cod fish I've had at other "seafood" restaurants. The fish was 2 pieces of very thin fried filet of something. It was just ok. The fries were very crisp and tasty. Probably the best part of the meal. We got a house bottle of salmon creek Pinot Grigio . Not bad for $4.99. My wine glass wasn't clean , floaters in my wine. I hesitate to call it a "seafood" restaurant as more than half the menu was "other" things. Pasta, chicken, pork, steaks, burgers, Italian food AND an Asian duck roll. Hmmmm. How can a chef master all of that unless it was all pre-made, purchased frozen food. I highly doubt anyone is cutting up a fresh eggplant, putting it in a batter, breading it, frying it up, and turning it into an eggplant rollatini . I've watched enough Gordon Ramsey to know thats a fact. Anyway, Let's not forget dessert! I ordered a piece of chocolate cake . Drum roll please... it wasn't "a piece" of chocolate cake , it was 4 chunks of what looked like the remains of all the broken pieces covered in whipped cream to hide the disgraceful mess . Honestly , you're going to serve that? Doesn't a customer deserve more than that? Take the $1.50 loss and cut another damn slice of cake! DISGRACEFUL! Our waitress was very nice, but she forgot the coffee, at that point I had enough and I just wanted the CHECK PLEASE! I will NEVER be back! This place is too dirty & grimy for me. I do not recommend this place at all! It gets 2 stars because of the fries , nothing else. read more

Cole's Dockside is one of the best restaurants! The atmosphere; has that nautical feel is really nice and across from the water makes it's nice especially in the warmer weather and can sit in the porch area. First let me say, get here early. Second, enjoy a great meal. We started with ceviche and backed clams. Excellent. I asked for the soft shell crabs as an appetizer. I'll have more to say about that later. The waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. The duck and bacon was amazing. The scallops were cooked perfectly. And the lobster ravioli looked amazing. More then enough food. But save room for the desert menu which is extensive. Now the soft shell crab appetizer. When I asked for them as an appetizer and was told yes, I was under the assumption that they would be a smaller version of the main meal. But no. These were two soft shell crabs at the price of $30.00. I question the price only to be told that the appetizer doesn't include the potato or vegetable. I asked how can you charge for a meal and call it an appetizer and not serve the whole meal. She said she could try to get $4.00 off. Such a random number. I gave the charge cards in. Back comes the bill. No credit. Now this isn't enough to keep me from coming back. But I know for the future not to ask if a meal can be into an appetizer. read more

Let's start with the GOOD... Appetizers: the oysters were fresh and tasty. The shrimp cocktail had 4 enormous tasty shrimp and the caponata put on the table was VERY GOOD. BUT... The house and Arugula salads were not enhanced by the house vinegret dressing. Better you should ask for oil and vinegar. The Duck rolls came to the table drenched in soy dipping sauce plus more sauce for dipping. No need to put on the sauce before the rolls leave the kitchen. The scallop and artichoke dish came in a cream sauce served in a hollowed out roll ,not puff pastry and COULD HAVE HAD MORE SCALLOPS AND ARTICHOKES for the price. The the crab cakes were o.k. Main Courses: No one complained about the Salmon and Halibut dishes. But the Pasta with Peas and Prosciutto came swimming in a cream sauce. It looked more like a stew. No need for all that cream sauce. It was tasty but way too much sauce. The Chicken Parm. was a very large portion. Desserts: very large portions . Definitely for sharing. The prices are not listed on the menu. Creme Brulee was just O.K. The Chocolate Mousse (cake?) came with 4 slices of strawberries and some kind of whipped topping. It didn't seem that it was made from natural ingredients. The noise level was very high on this Friday night. Too loud for any conversation at the table. We do not think we will return to eat here, but the oysters and shrimp cocktail are calling to us. read more

Love this restaurant! Have been here twice for a friends party and bridal shower and have been nothing but completely satisfied with the experience! Their party room is beautiful with all open windows/sliding doors. The food is outstanding, every course was delicious and I would love to come here just to enjoy dinner or a happy hour. I recently hosted a Sprinkle for our daughter. I've never been to Coles, but I got a recommendation. When I called for availability and spoke with Lisa, I instantly knew that this was gonna be a good day. She was so helpful and always ready to talk with me. The day of the Sprinkle, the room was set up exactly the way I wanted. The food was amazing. I chose the option 2 for parties. The platters of the hot antipasto was overflowing. The penne vodka was creamy and al dente. 5 choices of an entree that everyone said was delicious. I decided not to get a presentation cake and it was a good idea. The chocolate cake they served was so scrumptious. My daughter said it's the cake she's been craving all these months. The service was amazing as well. I never had to ask for anything. Wine, water and soda was always filled to the rim in the carafes. Because the food was in abundance, almost everyone took home the left overs to enjoy again. Great place to go. We had Danny. He was so great and funny. Made us feel right at home. The place was crowded but we were sat quickly. We started off with great drinks, fried calamari, baked clams. Danny didn't rush us but stayed on top of the table. I had the shrimp parm and the ms. Wonderful had talpia. The food was great. Service was hands down great. The price was worth what we paid. This is one of my favorite restaurants! Our server Donna was amazing! We had the alligator appetizer followed by the wild boar special with mushroom risotto and my husband had The duck! The meal was incredible!! Everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully! For dessert we shared the cheese cake ...so creamy and delicious. Yummy! One thing that I thought was awesome about this place is that their Pri-fixe menu is affordable and the portions aren't tiny like how Pri-fixe options tend to be. There's actually a good selection on that menu. On the specialty seafood menu, there's so many options. Definitely more pricey, but if you're looking for fresh, yummy seafood then I would definitely try Cole's dockside. Good for a small party (10 people) or a date. Definitely check it out! read more

My kids and I really enjoy Coles. The fried calamari is delicious it literally melts in your mouth and the portion is plentiful. $10.95 for lunch portion..oyster cocktail is always fresh! They also have a happy hour on friday with half price apps and drink specials..if you want good seafood and want to be by the water this spot on the Marina is great! I went to coles a year before hurricane sandy with my husband. We just recently went again today years after it reopened. We went with our young son. It's nice because there's seating outside to overlook the marina. The food was freah and delicious, and everything came out at a nice pace. I would absolutely go back again. But just keep in mind it has a limited selection for children and a large group can spend quite a bit here. But the food was worth it read more

Excellent food and great service. I felt like I had left Staten Island and gone to a small sailing town because of the marina, which is off the main roads, and the decor of the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food came out fast and was fresh. My wife & I had the lobster Arugula salad and baked clams for appetizers. Both were excellent. I had the pecan encrusted Mahi Mahi and my wife had the grouper. Both dishes were very good. We couldn't finish them because the portions were generous. We had the brownie volcano for dessert which was also very good. Our waitress gave us 2 Italian coffees on the house and wrote a nice note on our check which was a very nice touch. Great restaurant. My fiancé and I had our engagement party at Cole's. Our families have gone here for dinner on numerous occasions and we've always loved the food. Our party was great and everything we could have wanted. I give 100% credit to Lisa who was the party planner at Cole's. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Any request we made to her that was in her control was accommodated and we are so grateful for everything she did. Dina the bartender was amazing as well and really handled our large group. The owner of Cole's could definitely be more pleasant. Not sure he really appreciated the business and made us feel like more of a bother than anything, especially when making any special requests. Delicious and fantastic service. Came here to celebrate a birthday. Started out great right off the bat with a wonderful chunky eggplant spread given with bread (free, not an app). Try not to get full of of this, though it is tough! We ordered soup (tomato and he ordered clam chowder), both good. Main dinner, I had the salmon in a cream sauce with veggies and a crispy potato, very very good. My boyfriend had the special, halibut. He could not stop raving about how good his was. Said it was one of the best he has ever had! Food tasted fresh, everything was cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. Last but certainly not least our waitress was so so wonderful, Donna. First time and loved it. Our waiter Dan made sure we were happy. The Sailfish was caught by the owner / chef just days earlier. I've never had fish that tasted so fresh! Dan even assured me if I wasn't happy with my choice they would offer me something else. We shared and tasted everyones plates and everything was very fresh and perfectly cooked. Was here yesterday for lunch with my boyfriend. Was hoping to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day but outside was closed. We had the buffalo shrimp & mozzarella in corroza for an appetizer. Both were delicious. My boyfriend had the Chicken parm, he loved it. I had the swordfish special. Fish was a bit dry but the crab salsa on top was amazing. Vegetable was great. Went there to support the restaurant business on Staten Island. Eating in a parking lot isn't my thing, but I understand they're trying to survive. Try harder. Our server was very young and obviously very inexperienced. Definitely poorly trained. I asked for top neck clams, please no little necks. If you have to give me cherrystones, that's fine. I got little necks. Strike one. I ordered the whole black sea bass. He said it was $32, I said ok, fine. I waited an hour! He only came back to the table once, and when I asked him about my order he said it takes a long time to prepare the fish. It does not. Strike two. After an hour it finally comes. They cooked it with the gills still inside! I couldn't believe it! When I asked him why the gills were left in, he said "You wanted it whole, right?" I said "whole" means on the bone, head on ok, but the gills are full of blood, slime and bacteria. They should NEVER be cooked in the fish. Not in any decent restaurant anyway. They're always removed with the rest of the guts. Not only that but I was getting scales with every forkful of fish. An absolutely TERRIBLE job by the kitchen in preparing this fish. Strike three. When the check FINALLY came, after I told another server to find my waiter and get my check, the $32 sea bass was $42 ! Strike 4, 5, 6 .....etc. Sorry Cole's. You shouldn't take your customers for granted. Terrible, terrible service, both by the wait staff and the kitchen. read more

One of my favorite places to get seafood on Staten Island. The service was impeccable, mainly from our waiter Dan, and the food was out of this world. The prix fixe menu had a lot of great options. I ordered the mussels in a red sauce as an app and they were cooked perfectly... I was very impressed. They also include a bottle of wine with their prix fixe--which for $26 you can't beat. This is a place that we love to eat at all of the time so I decided to order my Mother's Day dinner from here. It was out of this world. I live on the opposite side of the island but the food traveled well. I asked for a special that was on their menu in February and they were happy to accommodate. For anyone wondering it was Halibut Madiciarra and you need to try it. I ordered baked clams as well and all of the seafood was so fresh that I was sad when I finished it all. Went there on a whim Tuesday night, because we were in the mood for seafood. We ordered off the prix fix menu. Both of us thought the food was awful, tasteless and bland. My husbands mussel appetizer had several inedible mussels, my baked clams were tasteless, even with the lemon I squeezed on them. Entrees were no better, my cod oreganato had no taste and husbands creole fish dish, the breading was hard and sauce bland. My thinking is all this food is frozen and quickly reheated to serve. We both added salt and pepper to both our dishes which we never do!! Dessert was ok thankfully! Big deal with the prix fix you get a bottle of wine, it's a cheap bottle costing retail $3.99!!! As far as I'm concerned, this is a (not-so-) hidden gem! I've passed by this place many many times on my way to the Marina Cafe. This past Friday my friend suggested that we go there for an early dinner. I'm so glad she did! From 3:00 to 6:00PM they have a 3 course prix fixe dinner for $24.00, which includes a bottle of wine. (We opted for cocktails -- Raspberry Lemonade -- and took the wine home to cook with.) First course was great for me. Mozzarella en Carrozza -- lightly fried to perfection served with a side of marinara sauce. My friend said her Zuppa di Mussels was good. A big bowl of mussels served in either red or white sauce. Entree -- my friend had some kind of tilapia dish and I had the cod oreganata (which was perfectly prepared; nice and flaky). Both were served with nice, crunchy steamed veggies and a potato croquette-type-thing. Dessert for both of us was a chocolate crepe filled with chocolate mousse. It was the only negative of our meal. The actual crepe was cold and chewy - like a cold Aunt Jemima pancake - very disappointing. But the mousse inside was quite good (we just picked it out and left the crepe). The decor/ambiance is quite charming. You walk in and you're at the bar and behind it is a very large dining room. We ate in the glass enclosed porch/patio. I hope they slide the doors open when it gets warmer. It was only in the low 70's out and the room was quite warm as it was (and the sliding doors were closed). Service was very good, a little slow to start but then it picked up and got back on track. We were in and out in 1 1/2 hours, which was good because we had a time constraint.
