Wow. This place was a vibe. There is a guy playing the piano all Saturday night. How beautiful is that? From start to finish, from the ambiance to the food, this is a good spot for that special celebration. We had their pre-fixed dinner menu - I loved their hot antipasto, my wife loved their stuffed clams. Everything was incredible. Their seafood pasta was what the doctor ordered, and the Italian cheesecake was on point. My wife really enjoyed her tiramisu also. We've dined at Cafe Bella Vita several times in the past, and it never disappoints. This latest time was on Thanksgiving and we were seated at the best seat of the house, by the cozy "fireplace". It was a busy evening but the waitstaff was just amazing; coming by often to ask if we needed anything, clearing our table after each course, and keeping our water glasses filled. We ordered the special turkey and shrimp scampi dinners, which were prepared perfectly. The stuffing from the turkey platter was incredible and the pasta from the scampi was just right. I can't speak enough about the quality of the food at CBV and their prices on this holiday were much more reasonable than restaurants in other parts of the city. I've passed this restaurant 1000x and I was so happy to attend a rehearsal dinner here and finally enjoy it. Wow what a great dinner in a private room. All the food was really delicious but I highly recommend the veal Marsala. It was tender and mushroomy. This is a great venue for a party or shower. They work well with budgets and dietary needs. Their open bar and drinks are great. Looking forward to booking something again here soon. To eat we had a fixed menu. Drinks, Appetizer, salad, entree, and desert. I got coke, mozzarella sticks, no choice in the salad, lobster raviolis in vodka sauce, and an ice cream roll. Let me say this now! That was probably the best raviolis I've ever tasted. They were flavorful, buttery and the lobster just melted in your mouth. The vodka sauce was very rich! 10/10 recommend! Only complaint was the ice cream roll and salad were not good. It was Romain, tomato's, red onion, black olives, chick peas, and italian dressing. As for the restaurant, it is very cute! We just had my brother in law's 50th birthday here. When the family went to book the event, the house manager was very rude on the phone. They insisted the children cost the same as an adult for a prefix menu.. and wouldn't put our party in the private room. We asked for it. We had two 2 year olds, two 3 year olds, a 4, 5, 6 and several preteens and teenagers. If he knew that I'm not sure why he put us right in front of the bar and waiter station. The house manager was very upset with our children (walking!) around and spending some time down a quiet hallway with windows. How are you supposed to keep children that age sitting from 2-6pm? Absurd. None of the kids were wild or unruly- (mine usually is!) but he was so so mean from the moment we arrived. The wait staff was great in our tight quarters and accommodated my diet restrictions I don't recommend a dinner party here unless you want to overpay and deal with a very rude manager. read more

I used to come here often but after Covid my dining out was limited. I was meeting friends at Bella Vita on 10/10/24. I checked the menu and noticed they no longer had eggplant Parmigiano. I try to stay away from Pasta and I'm fussy ordering fish. I'm a pescatarian so my options are limited. I reached out on FB and quickly received a response that if I want eggplant Parmigiano they would gladly accommodate me. When I arrived at the restaurant the staff had been alerted they will have a patron that wanted eggplant. I was really shocked that whoever it was that reached out to me on FB actually followed through. My friends had ordered the fillet of sole and upon their recommendation I ordered it as well. The fish was perfection, the minestrone soup (veg) was delicious, the salad was great with a lovely dressing. Bread and flat breads along with caponnata was on the table. What I'm trying to say is that there were 5 very happy diners, the food was delicious and the service was impeccable. I'm glad to see that over the years they did not compromise on all the goodness. The place is very nice and very wide opened on the second floor. The room can be divided into different rooms. I was sat right away and the waiter came over to take a drink order. The drink I ordered was watered down. In order the fried calamari to start which was great. The red sauce was perfect. Next up was the chicken breast alla valdostana. The chicken was fresh, prosciutto was great, and the right amount of sauce. It was served with green beans and a potato croquette. The potato croquette was the perfect brown colored and fried the way I like it. It also was served with a fresh salad. You must be thinking if the food and service was great why was it given only three stars. I ordered more drinks and every drink seemed more watered down than the last one. Even though this restaurant has been here forever (and at a prior location many years before), we somehow only discovered it last year. It quickly made its way to be one of our favourite places to eat. It's less expensive than some of the other places we sometimes frequent for a more romantic dinner, but the experience here is still top-notch. This is the type of family-run business where you are treated like a friend who came over for dinner. They remember your name, your "usual" drink, and some of your preferences (like the fact that I don't like olives in my salad). They do not rush you through the meal, and if you choose the pre-fix menu, plan to be there a while enjoying each other's company. The prices for an appetizer, salad/soup, entry, dessert, and coffee are quite reasonable, but more importantly, the food is always fresh, hot, and delicious! We've also had a few of our family parties in the back room, and - believe it or not - nobody ever complains about anything. On the weekends, we enjoy the live piano music. read more

My aunts wanted a pitcher of hot water instead of the default iced water, and the wait staff here provided it and would bring a new pitcher every now and then to make sure there was always hot water available. Red Cabernet wine was very good, the salad had a very tasty dressing, my chicken in garlic, lemon and rosemary was so delicate and light and bursting with flavor. Coffee and ice cream for dessert finished it off just right. The waiter was very attentive on this busy day and every table was filled And I loved the new renovation. If you need to be around millennials there might be a decent bubble tea near NYU, but certain kinds of restaurants draw an older crowd. Sometimes this means nothing. Sometimes it means the place has been reliable for decades. I'll say this - I've never seen seventy-somethings at shitty Brooklyn brewpubs that charge $28 for fusion pickled egg pork belly with cilantro lime reduction. Cafe Bella Vita resembles an outsider's perception of what Staten Island is like, with Christmas tree-type lights enhancing the attempt at suburban glamour, and it's necessarily the kind of place I'd be drawn to. But the food was fresh and abundant, and the service was friendly. I imagine there weren't too many other people arriving from Jersey City via many buses and the SIRT, and they were happy to help me navigate the menu. You should definitely opt for the fixed price side of things, including a salad and choice of appetizer and dessert. The Scarola E Fagioli was a fine soup that I strongly recommend unless you're afraid of garlic. The entree was Spaghetti o Sole Mio, a light-colored garlicky dish with shrimp, zucchini and sun-dried tomato. I liked it although next time I might try something in the red sauce realm. I had a different experience when I came back recently for the Communion party. We were a table of at least 20 people with two parties on either side with the same amount of people so things were a little hectic. The service was still attentive while accommodating all of us. (One young server did have extreme body odor which was offensive and off putting.)
