This was not a fine dining experience. I asked what they used for "fish & chips" I was told fresh sole. What I got was thin sliced deep fried CHICKEN! When I told the lady in charge she confirmed that it sure was chicken, shrugged her shoulders and walked away. They charged me full price. This may be a Staten Island thing. We were craving seafood so we came here for lunch on a Saturday. Besides our table, there was only another table of 3 with a different waitress. 3 stars is for the service even though I was a little confused about my dish. She didn't listen! She just didn't listen. Asked all the right questions, concerned about all the right things, but just did not listen and walked away way too quick every time. There was no one else there! Even when it came to the bill, we wanted to explain what was happening with the cash and card, but instead she ran off and came back with only the card charged and the cash laying there. Cool. Not impressed..... Waitress was not pleasant at all, not busy and left our empty glasses on on the table to long. Not very attentive or caring. FOOD- bread was warm but very tough and chewy like it was microwaved. Crab cake was decent but it came on a bed or tartar sauce ( if you don't like TT sauce ask for it on the side otherwise its swimming in it). NE Clam chowder barely had any clams. stuffed shrimp were small and had a lot of stuffing on it. for a 30 dollar dish i expected bigger. Salad was clearly pre-made and tossed in their house vinaigrette. it was wilted and colorless, the only fresh veg was the onion on top. (poor shortcut to make) Be advised, they charge for every shot glass of soda (very small glass filled with ice) 2.50$ each so if you going with kids it will sneak up on you. This has always been one of my favorite places to go to. Today I called to see if they had a lunch available . The girl said yeah so I figured I can go sit outside and have a nice lunch. Weather was not too bad. When I arrive I see that the outdoor tent was taken down . I was surprised and went inside . The waitress said to me this is what is considered outdoor dining. It's an indoor patio room . So we sat near the door and opened the window slightly to get some air . We ordered our lunch which was fish tacos with basa filet, very good. And my husband got the filet of sole, also delicious.. the big problem I had was that continuously people were passing us in and out without wearing a mask . People who came from inside the resteraunt and also customers walking by to smoke outside. . In the back of the patio area it seemed like a bunch of Barflys sitting there drinking and talking extremely loud to one another , they were also the ones not wearing a mask passing us to smoke outside . I guess since the bar is closed inside they are allowing them to congregate there and drink . I found it very annoying on many levels . Management wasn't around at all. Went out to eat here with my family. Got there at 5:45 didn't get out until 8:30. Service was bad and the food no good. I ordered the stuffed shrimp when it came out you would think waiting so long it would have come out hot. Well no. Stuffed shrimp in a bisque sauce tasted more like cheese on top and the shrimp I could taste the kitchen. My husband steak came out not cooked at all had to send it back by the time it came out he packed it to go. Baked clams could've been cooked more I'm sorry. The octopus was the only thing good. I ordered 2 pitchers of sangria the first was was water the second was ok but not sweet no fruit. The Italian restaurant next door so much better. Sangria and everything. This is one of the best restaurants in Staten Island, perfect for any and all occasions. I visited a couple times and the food just next disappoints. Staff is always attentive and friendly. The waiter Danny will make you laugh since the moment you sit down. The food is amazing as I said before. Something so simple as a chicken parm has never been so delicious. They have the best calamari in all of Staten Island and they use only the freshest of ingredients in their dishes like the soft shell crab dish. They have really good dessert, one of my favorites being their homemade cheesecake. The restaurant is family owned and I even had the pleasure the met the owner Larry and his son Ian, who are there everyday making sure that their gusts are always satisfied. The restaurant sits right outside Great Kills Harbor which gives its guests a great view. They even have this magician called Magic Mike that bartender and keeps guests entertained with mind blowing tricks. I would definitely recommend Cole's Dockside to anyone and everyone. My only experience at Cole's was for a private party, and since then I have wanted to return but have not had the opportunity. At the start of the party we were presented with a wonderful assortment of hot and cold antipasto items. Fresh mozzarella, calamari, fried zucchini, broccoli, etc. All very good. We each had a choice of an entree from a special menu and I selected a Steak Au Poive which is steak with a creamy peppercorn sauce. Traditionally I have had it prepared with Fillet Minion, but this particular dish was made with shell steak. Not my favorite cut of meat, mind you, but very good nonetheless. The waitress that was assigned to our party seemed to also be assisting in the regular dining room, which was unfortunate considering we were a large party of about 40 people. On my way out after the party I picked up a to go order of calamari for my boyfriend. While calamari usually doesn't hold up too well for take out, he enjoyed it. read more

So if you're up in the air about this place or the MC down the street, definitely go here. I'm judging off the entire experience and that's why it's getting a 3. First off, the appetizers. Got a bowl of the clam chowder and it was really really good. However, for 7 bucks they give you a shallow bowl and not a big amount. It was also not hot, I was able to dig right in without any blows to the spoon. I wish it was hotter. Then you have the baked clams. 6 for 12 bucks. Also very tasty but 3 out of the 6 clams were not as toasted as the other clams breadcrumbs were. They should have been all uniformly baked. 3 were crispy and 3 were soggy. Main course. I got the stuffed shrimp topped with the bisque, it was very good. Not crazy about the veg it came with but the potato crochet was good. The wife had the Zuppa de pesce, it was a nice size portion and very delicious. Even enough to bring home for a little lunch the next day. Notable: Nice warm bread with an eggplant topping upon entry. Families be aware, they hit you for every soda 2.50 for a very very small cup of soda and boy oh boy it adds up quick. Good fish, but depending on what you order it can be a little boring. Husband thought the fish and chips were bland and tasteless. My tilapia was great quality, but covered in so much cheese that the flavor of the fish was buried. I think the quality of the fish is great, but maybe we're just used to a lot of spices and flavor. Next time I'll try something different to see. My favorite was the fried calamari - it is excellent and they don't overcook it so its crispy on the outside but not rubbery on the inside. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant, very cozy and family oriented. Our waitress was so sweet and even though we had never been before and everyone else appeared to be regulars, we were made to feel comfortable. Had dinner here last night. The raw oysters were out of this world. Very fresh and tasty. I had the blackened shrimp and scallops over risotto and it was delicious. Very flavorful and cooked well. Also had an espresso martini which was one of the best I've ever tasted. Our server was friendly and checked on us frequently enough to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is nice, right off the water, and there is an outdoor deck area. The place is clean and well maintained. If you're looking for a night of seafood this is a great option. Once again, wilted not fresh greens. My mom ordered Basa in franchese sauce, she was happy with it, I thought it over sauced. Can't complain about the portions - two big filets plus veggies and a nice potato croquet. I will say I've had the mussels appetizer and that always been good. Saturday 7/11/20 was the first time since Covid-19 that I actually dined out. I called and made reservations for 6 people, knowing they have the patio dining. I understand that businesses are hurting, but don't take on more than you can chew! We get there and out table wasn't even under the tent in the parking lot. It was on the curb! Not the safest place God forbid a car goes out of control!!! The clouds were getting thicker and I asked if we can be moved under the tent, because the obvious rain was going to come down. The waiter said if it rains, you will get a drink on the house (yeah right) It started to POUR not rain. We were left outside the tent. and had to move ourselves. We also had to move our own table, chairs and wipe them down. Our first round of drinks came and i had a log whitish blond hair in my drink. The waiter said no one has blond hair. WRONG! One of your waitresses do! I said I don't care, its not mine I'm not drinking it! Dinner came. Food was delicious as always. Over priced. Almost $40 for 4 crab legs! We then asked if the fan can be moved closer to us. One of the waiters moved it and my cousin gave them a $10 tip just for doing that. 5 minutes later that fan was moved to a table on the other side to a table that already had 2 fans cooling them off. The bill comes, it was over $400 and we gave them well over $500. They never gave us a drink on the house, not a coffee, dessert, or a crumb of bread. We spoke to the manager (owners son) all he could say was it was out of his control. He wish he had more fans!!!! At $40 for 4 crab legs....GO BUY MORE FANS!!!!! Pretty good special occasion restaurant. I cannot comment on the regular menu as we had the Father's Day menu. I would have liked to tried the seafood tower as that is my barometer for seafood places but I had two of my other litmus sticks - fried calamari and steamed mussels, both pretty good. The fried calamari (some with legs : ) was plentiful and served with a fresh tomato sauce (see photo) and the mussels in tomato sauce was enough for an entree! On the other hand, my spouse had the prepared seafood combination and while it was not awful I can see where it can be easily over prepared to the point where the treatment overpowers the flavor of the seafood (rubbery). So if you are a fresh seafood fan, order more of the cleaner dishes. If you like volume and sauces, then by all means go for the prepared dishes. The service, however, was top notch from the hostess, wait staff and table staff. Seamless. I would recommend, be careful how you order! read more

Coles may be dockside but this should not conjure up images of romantic water views. Across the way is an industrial warehouse & a fleet of large trucks only redeemed by a gigantic American Flag painted on the facilities' wall. Since there are many other restaurants on the same side of the street as Coles, parking is an adventure, to put it mildly. Having got these caveats out of the way, let's get down to the good stuff: the food. Although the a la carte menu is extensive, we recommend you forget them & dive on the $26 prefix menu. It's here that you'll get the best "bang for the buck." I started off with Mussels in Red Clam Sauce that were both plentiful & delicious. A tip: Extract all the Mussels from their shells & mix them together with small pieces of the delightful Italian Bread for an instant Mussels Soup! My Wife had the Baked Clams but there were only a few of them. Although they were tasty, skip them. Our main course was Tilapia stuffed with Crabmeat, Grilled Veggies & a Potato Hushpuppy. Excellent & plentiful! My Wife had a Saba Romeo, which was White Fish stuffed with Crabmeat & topped with a Lobster Sauce plus 2 orders of Vegetables. Delightful! For Dessert we had the Chocolate Cake with Whipped Cream Topping, which was OK but nothing outstanding. Try the Rice Pudding with Whipped Cream instead. My Wife is diabetic so she couldn't have any of the sugary desserts. When I explained this to the waiter, he was very accommodating by providing her with a dish of Mixed Fresh Fruit. The service throughout our meal was both efficient & considerate. Came in this afternoon with my wife, thinking for a quick lunch, and wound up staying for two hours! Our server, Danny was excellent. He is attentive, with personality, humor, and genuine care for his guests, as can be observed at all of the other tables. We started off with a dozen delicious oysters that were perfectly shucked, no shell flaking here, and I followed up with an order of some of the most tender fried calamari I have ever eaten. Even my wife liked it and she hates calamari. Our entrees consisted of a delicious lobster ravioli with prosciutto and peas, and my wife had an excellent whole lobster, sautéed in a sherry cream sauce. Coles feels like a family-run place which cares about their customers and reputation. The restaurant is perfect except for two little things: 1) I wish the young waiter would just take our orders without him waiting for some kind of reaction to his awkwardly unfunny jokes even though he doesn't even smile. 2) The fish is always great but the sides are so boring. Undercooked , The breading on top was mush, not golden or crisp (apparently I'm not the only one with this complaint) and one of them tasted quite funky As it went down . I held back the tears and immediately ate some bread . The Fish and chips entree was just ok . Different than the usual fresh chunks of fried flakey Cod fish I've had at other "seafood" restaurants. The fish was 2 pieces of very thin fried filet of something. It was just ok. The fries were very crisp and tasty. Probably the best part of the meal. We got a house bottle of salmon creek Pinot Grigio . Not bad for $4.99. My wine glass wasn't clean , floaters in my wine. I hesitate to call it a "seafood" restaurant as more than half the menu was "other" things. Pasta, chicken, pork, steaks, burgers, Italian food AND an Asian duck roll. Hmmmm. How can a chef master all of that unless it was all pre-made, purchased frozen food. I highly doubt anyone is cutting up a fresh eggplant, putting it in a batter, breading it, frying it up, and turning it into an eggplant rollatini . I've watched enough Gordon Ramsey to know thats a fact. Anyway, Let's not forget dessert! I ordered a piece of chocolate cake . Drum roll please... it wasn't "a piece" of chocolate cake , it was 4 chunks of what looked like the remains of all the broken pieces covered in whipped cream to hide the disgraceful mess . Honestly , you're going to serve that? Doesn't a customer deserve more than that? Take the $1.50 loss and cut another damn slice of cake! DISGRACEFUL!
